I'm eternally jealous of my buddy's Note 2, with the built in S-pen slot. Gives me warm fuzzy memories of my Touch Pro 2. I'd like to get a case that has a similar slot, with bonus points for durability, s view, or extended battery support. (I know the last is extremely unlikely, but I can dream~)

Nope.
S-pen does not work on S4.
Damn, I was misinformed. Well, how about a slot for the c-pen, then?

It was a near thing, but $100 between the two sealed the deal.
Ah well. I've been operating without a stylus for the last two years - At least the screen on the S4 wipes clean super easy

It's not confirmed whether the c-pen works on the s4 or not. The c-pen was designed specifically for the s3 apparently.
Also, the c-pen is huge, there won't be a slot.

It works. See the video here (Only a minute or so)

The c-pen works flawlessly with the s4. I use it daily. As a side note, the newer firmwares for the Asus tf300 tablet and nexus 7 also work with the c-pen

Should I order a note II or keep my s3 and save my money... Also which would be more suitable for 12/21/12 apocalypse? Which accessories are a must for this predicament?

Only major difference between the S3 and Note 2 are the screen size, and the Note 2 is quad core whereas the S3 is dual core. So really its personal preference, the Note 2's bootloader may or may not ever be unlocked so if hacking is more your thing i'd pass on it. If you want my personal opinion, i'd stick with your S3 and save some money
Keep with SIII. New firmware from Sammy will add all note features in Q1 2013. If I were to upgrade get a Nexus 4 which will also be in stock in Q1 2013 which has the similar specs to Note II such as 2GB RAM and Quad Core CPU.
you don't believe in that end of world rubbish right?

In reality the S3 is still an amazing phone that can not only handle anything you throw at it, but it has pretty much every custom ROM, mod, kernel, and theme you could possibly want and will likely have great developer and community support for the foreseeable future so unless your really need the marginal better real world performance and the 0.7" bigger screen I would save your money and go with the S3. As far as which is more suitable for an apocalypse, neither, because once there is no more electricity both would be useless once they ran out of battery (Unless you constructed a hand crank generator or solar cell charger ). Also I imagine all cellular infrastructure needed for voice and data to work wouldn't function either. Accessories wise a good case like the Otterbox Defender Series would be perfect to prevent the phone from getting banged up and scratched (It includes a built in screen protector).
Try both and see what fits in your hand more comfortably. If you are seriously concerned about the apocalypse, the Note II might make for a better weapon due to its size.
I thought it was 12/12/12. The note 2 also has spen

Seems to be not too much development going on except for couple ROMs here and there. Not trying to troll or anything, just wondering if my next tablet after this should be Samsung one if development is important to me.

Honestly I'm happy with the development and the hard work put into so far. It's waaaay more popular than my last device (G-Slate). We didn't even get a our own section of XDA. So no complaints here.

Perhaps it might also be said that Samsung themselves have managed to produce a pretty decent product, out of the box.
the device itself is good but not much popular................most people prefer ipads and remaining get divided between kindle fire and other available android tablets

Best buy sells OE replacement S-pens.
Now, I thought I saw video of some guy using a stylus on his S4 but maybe I'm mistaken.
My wife has a Note 2, spen from her note does not work on my Galaxy S4.
However I bought this:

I was killing some time last week at a Best Buy near a restaurant I was waiting on my wife to meet me at. They had just opened up their Samsung section in this location and I haven't been in a Best Buy in some time and decided to check it out.
They had the Note 2 and the 1st thing I did after trying the s pen was see if it worked on my S4 and it did not. Was kind of disappointed as the feel of the s pen on the Note was pretty amazing.
Yeah, and I just got a tweet from Samsung Belgium. they say the C-pen that was made for the S3 also isn't compatible with the S4 and that there's no stylus that Samsung made that is compatible with the S4... That's kinda dissapointing because I do want to draw on my S4, like I did on my old Note..
So any stylus suggestions are welcome ( and I did like the tiny size of the S-pen a lot.. )
thanks!
The spen requires a dedicated digitizer on the screen. We don't have that, you can only use capacitive stylus types and trust me they suck.
Oh and you'll never be able to use them for pressure sensitivity like the spen..

What's even more odd than them saying they don't support the C or S Pens, is that I've just discovered settings hidden in the S4 specifically for the S Pen.
I was using the app ''QuickShortcutMaker" to see if it was possible to access the call blocking settings that Verizon hid... When lo and behold there they were.
I've spent the last hour online trying to figure out if the S4 supports it but it obviously doesn't.
Extra lame since the settings are there!!

Yeah pic was taken with my old Galaxy S3, possibly the most beat up phone I have ever seen, where every function still works! The Note 2 is sold and outbound tomorrow, Note 1 has bids, so only a matter of time before the Note 3 is all alone...well except for one ugly ass S3!

Still using my Note i717 here, really want the Note 3 but at the same time I'm still loving this one. Skipped the Note 2 because of its resolution but 3 fixes that issue. I'm at least waiting for CM support before I buy one. No intentions of selling this i717 though, I'll find some other use for it definitely, maybe try putting Debian or Ubuntu on it since I could leave it in non-functioning states without being without a phone.

Sold mine on Swappa. Got less than what I wanted, but it's all good. I definitely got my money's worth out of my Note 3. There just wasn't anything too remarkably different from the Note 2 and Note 3. I like trying different phones. I swap between this and my Moto X. I should be good now until I get the new X coming out later in the year, now. I am taking a break from Samsung products

I got the M8 off contract for $600 and sold my Note 3 for about $150 less than that. So for the 6 months I used the Note 3, i definitely got my money's worth (I bought the Note 3 on contract pricing).
Same here, I went gs3 to note 2 to sg4 to note 3 now to m8...couldn't be happier. I wanted to use the s pen more, just didn't find it was all that functional. Really love the idea of it, but I rarely took notes with it and other than that, really just kept it in the phone.
I'm thinking of making a mass thread called "what phone did you come from and how does it compare?". I just love conversations like this on xda XD

Yeah I came from the note 3 and I still have it until I decide which I like better. Part of me misses the size as it's hard to get used to smaller size. I'm having issues typing but I'm sure that will get easier. I will say this phone feels so much nicer in the hand. Anybody tried that light bright case yet?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
I have the "light brite" case. It's actually really nice.I'm used to using the sview case but I like this case much better just for the different look it has. The flap is a little annoying but I figure it will get worn in and be a little better awhile
