[Q] TF700 with no OS - Asus Transformer TF700

My tablet will boot fine into twrp recovery v2.6.0.0 but it fails every time i try to flash a .zip file to install a new rom. This has rendered my tablet unusable. Any suggestions or remedies?
EDIT: when trying to install custom rom twrp hangs on updating partition details then fails

More details please:
which bootloader version do you have?
Which rom did you come from?
What did you wipe, when and how?
What are you trying to flash and how?
The more details you can provide the better your chance to get help.
Grab a logcat of the boot process and post it.

There is NVFlash that might be able to help you get a working ROM, it should be in the Developement Forum.

You can try these out to see if it helps solving your problem.
1. Move all your personal data to your External SD if you want to save them.
2. In TWRP, select "Wipe" and use "Format" instead of "Wipe" data and Caches.
3. After the Format is completed, go to Install and select the custome rom to install.
4. When the installation is completed, just reboot your device to see if it works.
Hope that will work out for you, good luck.

I wonder what option you select or have checked on the install page of TWRP??
If you downloaded CROM-X 4.7_signed, you should have "check zip signature" selected before you flash.
Do you have "check MD5 sum" selected?
To grab a logcat you will have some reading to do. But it's worth it! Consider learning how to use ADB and Fastboot from your PC. It can be a great diagnostic tool if things go south....
First you need to get ADB working, meaning installing the relevant drivers and the Android SDK platform tools on your PC.
There are tutorials on using ADB on this forum and all over the web and it's late here - have to get a few zzzzzs
But if you have a working recovery I don't see why you wouldn't be able to flash CROMi-X 4.7. Maybe a bad download? Everything else checks out....

[Q] flashed wrong kernal on my xoom 3.1

I am new to this posting and asking questions. I have a xoom and rooted it and updated it with 3.1 and then I went and updated it with the new rom which came out the other day. I did something studpid and didn't wait for the resolution to the sdcard not being seen after flashing the new deodex rom. I looked on the kernal manager and when I what I thought was the latest kernal I decided to flash it. I now can only get to recovery mode and I don't want to make another mistake. Can someone tell me if I can safely do a wipe data/factory reset? Will that get me back so I can flash the deodex rom back? You dev guys are really awesome and I really appreciate all of your work. Thank you for your support.

If you can get to recovery, just re-flash the rom, it includes its own kernel.
Ok I will and let you know if I am successful. Thank you
I tried to use recovery but my xoom won't see the sd card. I have adb running but really am afraid to use it without some help. Don't want to brick my xoom. I have the kernal zip but don't 1.4.4 and thought if I could flash the kernal to my xoom that would maybe fix it. I read somewhere that you shouldn't flash a zip file, so I don't know what to do. any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Please don't flash any xip file through adb! Why not go into RomManager app and look for an earlier version of recovery, maybe 3.0.2.5, and flash that. A good recovery should allow you to flash from your sdcard through clockwork mod recovery.
I can't get to the rom manager app. Am I missing something? The OS won't boot up and I only have version 4 of the clockwork recovery. What should I do?

There is your problem, you did not read the warnings...DO NOT USE CWM 4.
Grab Recovery Image (solarnz-R4c-100611-1150) FLASHED THROUGH FASTBOOT from this post.

Fastboot flash it, if you don't know how read the post or read my sig. Once you have a working recovery, try my post above.

OK, Thank you very much,,, I will be more careful in the future. I am back up and running the new rom with an older recovery. That taught me a good lesson never to install an earlier version of a kernal and never to try and flash a .zip file from adb. Thank you for the instructions. Is there a book for "adb for dummies"? There is actually an ADB tutorial somewhere on this site...seriously, do a search. It had a lot of great information. I like to know what I'm doing...it makes me more nervous to just blindly follow instructions with something like this, but I'm still mostly blind (sigh).

New to TF700, looking for help

I had a TF300T that I was unhappy with due to lagging/performance issues. I got a TF700T only to find similar issues which are now driving me to look into a custom ROM. It appears that a ROM by sbdags is the way to go but I have no idea which one. Can anybody give me a general overview of what the differences are between:
CROMi-X
CROMi-Xenogenesis
CROMBi-kk
I'm looking for something that is fast, stable and easy to update/maintain.
Thanks...Scott

CROMi-X is the same thing as CROMi-Xenogenesis. I recommend you start with this one as it is rock stable and fast. It uses the latest official Asus stock firmware as its base - JB 4.2.1. Grab CROMi-X 5.4 :good:
CROMBi-kk is our new experimental cyanogen based rom. If you like bugs and random things - flash this!
Yep CROMI-X is the answer to your need. Read carefully the first posts of its thread to understand how to install the rom and its prerequisites (very important) and then your slow-and-laggy stock rom will be forgotten and you will have a fast tab.

I've been reading up on the process and it appears that I need to downgrade from .10 to .8 in order for motochopper to root the device so that I can install TWRP. Is this correct or is there another way to install TWRP on an unlocked but not rooted device?
If I do need to downgrade, is it as simple as downloading the image from the Asus site, extracting the ZIP to /sdcard and rebooting or do I need to boot in some special way to tell the device to flash the downloaded image that I saved at /sdcard?
Thanks...Scott

No you don't need to downgrade as you don't need root
You can't install TWRP without unlocking.
So
1. Unlock
2, Install TWRP
3. Flash ROM
4. Enjoy a rooted fast device.

PS: I'm having a lot of fun with CROMBi-KK, but man: CROMi-X on the TF701? Now THAT is sweet!
I managed to get CROMi-X installed but was surprised that all my apps and data were present after I rebooted. I assumed I'd be starting with a completely clean system. I did select the wipe cache options when flashing. Is there a way to reset the system to be a completely clean system with only the apps/data installed by the CROMi-X installer? Normally I'd do a "Wipe System" but from what I've read you're not supposed to do that with non-stock ROM's.
Thanks...Scott

Congrats!
With a custom recovery installed you do not want to wipe from 'Backup & Restore' in Settings or do 'Wipe Data" from the bootloader menu - you use the recovery to do it.
Enter TWRP, choose 'Wipe' and swipe the button. This will wipe all your apps but not your /data/media/ folder where your personal stuff is stored. TWRP calls this a factory wipe and it is a good idea to do when you switch roms (also called a "clean install").
If you want to erase everything on your data partition you would go to 'Advanced' and perform a Format Data. You may have to re-flash the rom after formatting data - anything installed to /data during the flash would be gone too.
Dirty flash: Flashing a rom with only wiping cache and Dalvik. Ok to do for flashing the latest and greatest update to your rom
Clean Install: Using the Factory Wipe in TWRP before flashing a new rom or major upgrade. Also helpful to do every once in a while to clear out the cobwebs. I do it about every 10 flashes
Format Data: The nuclear option and rarely used unless you have corrupted data or problems noobody knows how to fix
Familiarize yourself with the Backup/Restore function in TWRP and get Titanium Backup Pro. Makes the above a breeze

Although I managed to get everything working, the one thing I didn't understand about the installation instructions for this was that you first needed to install TWRP and then run Scott's installation batch file which seems to overwrite that TWRP with another recovery.blob. What's the point of installing two recovery images?

Start by choosing the scenario below which reflects how your tablet is currently configured.
Scenario One
Factory Stock Android Operating System & Bootloader (Asus 10.6.1.x)
Steps
1. If you haven’t yet, unlock and root your TF700 by following these instructions.
2. Install the latest version of Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) - TWRP XDA Thread
Download and install the Scott's TF700T Recovery Install Tool. Once downloaded, extract the files on your Windows PC, connect your tablet to the computer and run the Recovery Install Tool.bat file.

Unelss it is trying to say "In order to install TWRP, run Scott's TF700T Recovery Install Tool"

Like I said, I got it figured out but the way the instructions are written/formatted it was confusing to me as a first time tablet flasher (that sounds weird  )

Is your tablets boot loader unlocked yet?... No matter. Just download thisAIO_scripts_R.A.H._TWRPv2.6.3.zip - 12.00 MB
It's my tool to do everything u need. Unlock boot loader, flash twrp recovery, and then twrp will root it also when you boot into recovery. Just Dow load the zip file. Plug your xoom into your pc and click the runme.bat and chose what you want to do.

Known issue on twrp there is no password just leave blank.
And you will need to ask your Rom related question in the Rom thread because I don't use that Rom and I don't know if it's bigPart Rom or not

Just remember to look at what ever Rom you choose. If it says requires bigpart. Look at the thread in the development section for the steps to make it compatible for bigpart. It's not hard just have to follow a few steps.

[Solved] Bricked TF300T?

Hello all,
Greetings and let me get straight to the point. First, sorry for being a noob. Basically, I was trying to install this "[ROM][LP 5.0.0_r2] [ KatKiss-Lollipop #003 ] [F2FS] [Beta]" on the TF300T US version on the latest bootloader. I entered TWRP and did a full wipe like I would always do to install a new rom. My last rom was the Omnirom Nightlies, which I have been using for some time now. The problem comes in here, I performed the usual procedures, but now, after installing the new rom ([ROM][LP 5.0.0_r2] [ KatKiss-Lollipop #003 ] [F2FS] [Beta]), it wouldn't boot (stuck at Katkiss logo) for a full hour, so I went back to the recovery and tried to reinstall the Omnirom and gapps that were always in my SD card. However, the log says it couldn't mount the system and data. I clicked the "Mount" button in TWRP and it says my storage is 0 mb! Now, I couldn't install anything or get it to boot. Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

I finally had time to fix my tablet today and this time it worked, but much patience was needed. In summary, it wasn't the rom that screwed me up, it was me being stupid by wiping the data and then flashing a new version of TWRP without a rom installed, which leads to bricking.
I highly recommend that you revert the tablet back to the stock rom before trying to install another custom rom. To revert back to the stock rom, first download the firmware from Asus' website (http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=ASUS+Transformer+Pad+TF300T&p=28&s=1) no parentheses. This is for the TF300T only, not the TL or TG models; if you have the other two models, just Google your tablet's model number+firmware and it is better if you download it off Asus' website and also beware of which countries' SKU you are downloading (Mine is the US version, so it is like this: "Version US_V10.6.1.27.5". Extract the zip file until you get a 'blob' file of around 800 MB.
Instructions:
First of all, get your TF300T into Fastboot Mode by pressing the VOL- and POWER buttons and you will see three icons labeled 'RCK', the android robot, and the "Wipe Data" icon.
Second, download Java JDK and Android SDK and... Follow the instructions from this website: (http://www.teamandroid.com/2012/07/30/how-to-set-up-adb-fastboot-with-android-sdk/) no parentheses.
Note: Even though the instructions are for entering fastboot on a Galaxy Nexus, it should also work for the TF300T as it did for me. Once again, be patient and follow instructions step-by-step to set up Fastboot on your computer (assuming it runs on Windows).
Third, in the folder where you have the system 'blob' file, look at steps 10-12 on this website (http://www.android.gs/restore-asus-transformer-pad-tf300t-to-stock-android-4-0-3-ics-firmware/) no parentheses.
Lastly, reboot and there you have a working TF300T and you become a happy tablet owner!
EXTRA: If you want to install a custom rom, follow these instructions: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579922) no parentheses.
Sorry if my guide was bad; it was brief and this is basically what a 17-year-old inexperienced noob myself could do and explain. If you followed all the instructions on the websites above, you should be able to fix your dilemma.
Good luck and happy Thanksgiving!

Just download the appropriate zip and flash from twrp, reboot to Android, then reboot to twrp.

problems flashing TWRP 2.8.1
Hi. I have 2.3.2.3 version (the last version flashable using the app "TWRP manager") of TWRP recovery and I have to update to the version above to install Lollipop into my asus tf101. How can I flash this version 2.8.1.1 to my tablet? simply flashing it as .rar file with the recovery I still have (as a ROM)?
thank you!

I don't know where you downloaded the recovery. It is a .zip not a .rar.
And while reading the op you will notice the word flashable.
Just download the .zip to your device and flash it with your current recovery
Download flashable TWRP 2.8.1.1 zip for TF101:
signed_twrp-2.8.1.1_tf101.zip
TWRP 2.8.1.1 MD5 sum for TF101:
signed_twrp-2.8.1.1_tf101.zip.md5
Installation
Hello all,
Is it me or there is no guide on how to flash this? I'm running stock recovery and Android 4.0.3 and I'm root. There is no flash option on stock recovery.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance!

I can't seem to get this recovery working. I'm flashing it from TWRP 2.3.2.3 on a tf101g but, although the it reports a successful flash and I observe the blue-green bar on the next boot, if I try to boot into the new recovery, it just hangs. I do see an error regarding being unable to mount /staging immediately after the flash mind. Given that this is where the blob is flashed to, is that indicative of problems and can anyone suggest how I might resolve them?
If not, I wondered what the *oldest* twrp it's possible to flash the latest KatKiss from is and where I might find it?

Are you flashing a version built for tf101g? The main one is for tf101.

Yes, I'm using signed_twrp-2.8.1.1_tf101g.zip from the first post on the main thread.

Did you also download the corresponding MD5 file to the same directory to verify you have a good download? A corrupt file might still flash but won't work necessarily. It should be recognizing your tf101g as such unless I missed something.

Hmmm. Interesting. I had downloaded the md5 file and had checked that it matched manually by running md5sum on the zip file and comparing the result to the contents of the md5 file. However, if I force md5 verification in twrp, it says that the two don't match and aborts the procedure. Redownloading provides me with the same version of the file each time, as checked with diff.
Another thought: could the blob itself be corrupted? Would you be able to supply an md5sum for the blob for to me compare against? Thanks!

The MD5 supplied is for the zipped package, before it left my machine. If you, move both files to ext sdcard, or wherever you intend to flash from, and double check that md5sum matches the MD5 inside the MD5 file, after they are both in final flash from directory. I could extract the package and do an md5sum on just the blob, but if it's corrupted that won't really help you. You could also extract the blob to internal /sdcard directory and flash with adb shell per the rescue instructions from the first post of the thread.

I'm boot looping after merely doing a nandroid. How does that even happen? wiping cache/dalvik cache did nothing and restoring that backup or the last did nothing. I guess I'll try reflashing katkis 5.1 again. Kind of a pain.
Boot Loops With TWRP 2.8.1
Hi,
I have just installed TWRP 2.8.1 and with in flashed KatKiss 5.1.1 ROM on my TF101.
After I finished flashing everything and rebooted the device, I am stuck in a Boot Loop. Tried Cold Reset but it didn't work.
I did get the green progress bar at start up, but keep returning to the eee pad splash screen. cant boot to android.
Any advise?
Install TWRP recovery
Hi,
I downloaded "signed_twrp-2.8.1.1_tf101.zip", but I don't understand how to install it.
When I use TWRP manager, I get a list of TWRP version up to 2.3 only.
When I try to use adb & fastboot command tools, it seems I cannot enable fastboot on the TF101 : Running "adb reboot bootloader" actually restarts the device in the normal mode.
Can you please help me with this? How can I install TWPR 2.8?
Thanks!
how to install twrp in TF101G
Hi I have i TF101G but doesn't work 3G, the sim card is not dectected. Any Help?
I have root and Cmw recovery? How I install TWRP recovery? I need a guide, help me!
To those guys who were having issues getting twrp 2.8.1 on their tf101, I was having same problem. Here is how I got it to work.
1. Download all the 5.1 Roms, Gapps, SuperSu onto your SD Card
2.Download the tf101 TWRP 2.8.1 onto your SD Card.
3. Use Easy Flasher Unbrick/Flash Stock and Boot into Android. Shut down.
4. Use Easy Flasher to load the older version of TWRP that works.
5. Boot into Android, shutdown at the start screen again.
6. Boot into Recovery, and flash the latest TWRP 2.8.1
7. Make sure your tablet is disconnected from USB, and reboot into Android, it should say optimizing App 1 of 1.
8. After you're in the start screen, reboot again into recovery. It should now be 2.8.1.
9. Install the 5.1 Rom off your SD.
