Hi, this is my first post, please be gentle.
So I've had my Infinity for almost a year now, and was pretty dejected about how slow it was, it would often hang, and was outclassed by many older tablets. I was directed here by a friend, and spent hours reading and referencing, trying to make sense of what info was current, etc. I've been doing my very best to avoid asking a question, but I'm stuck on this one.
I installed CROMi-X with the stock kernel by sbdags, but was very keen to try out the Data2SD kernel by _that, I bought myself a Class 10 UHS MicroSD card, and checked out the original Data2SD thread and read up on the process.
Do I still have to do the gparted and Imgburn steps with the SDCard?
Is there a different way to set up the SDCard if I'm using _that's kernal?
What is the best way to switch to that kernel?
Should I completely wipe and start over?
And a final question, what's the difference between the kernal by _that(TF700T : That 10.6.1.14.4 Modded Data2SD Kernel v2 Row Scheduler, UV, ISO9660 and Fsync Control. By _that), and the one by Hundsbuah(TF700T : Hunds OC 10.6.1.14.4 Data2SD Kernel v3.0.6 With App by Hundsbuah)? A lot of the extra stuff has me puzzled...
And again, thanks for your patience, 24 hours ago I had no clue about Android modding. =)

Yes, you need to do the gparted procedures regardless what kernel that you are using with a Data2Sd.
No, they are all the same procedures.
The best way is to do a factory reset which required a wipe of data and both caches.
I don't think that you need to do that.
_that's kernel is very close to stock with some tweaks to improve the performance of your device and very stable. Maybe _that can give you a better explaination. Hund and Maxs' kernels give all of options that you can tweaks to whatever you want to. However, if you make a mistake, it could run unstanle or crash. Hope that it clears things up a little bit.

Congrats! You learned a LOT in 24 hours! Must be a speed reader, eh?
A word of caution: To jump into cutom roms and straight away into Data2SD is a tall order. Don't know if you read the posts from multiple people posting that D2SD is not really worth the considerable headache to set it up and get it running right anymore, that it does not or only marginally improve the performance of this tablet on CromiX....
Just my 2 cents worth.... now go knock yourself out )

Thank you both for your help!
Berndblb, I'll wait a bit and just use CROMi-X for a while without data2sd. And yeah, I dived full on headfirst into it. I never half ass stuff, I full ass it. Now it's time to try to dive into the S3 forums, which seem a LOT more complicated. Still can't seem to find a Root/Unlock method consensus.
Am I supposed to add the "solved" to the title? Can't quite figure it out.

Ummm
Clemsyn's kernel here with the 1.8 oc
I haven't dabbled with voltages.
I'm using System Tuner Pro to push the CPU to max.
I just did a stress test under the kernel with no tweaks set.
No overheat and it didn't reboot until system load hit 3.92
I'll call that good for now.

How would I go about using Clemsyn's kernel with CleanROM 2.3? Are there any risks with combining something like Clemsyn's kernel with a custom ROM?
I didn't really want to ask in the development thread because I didn't think it was for question and answers.
Clemsyn and CleanROM work perfectly together. Check out the dev thread for either, and look at the results...

Joe,
If you have flashed CleanROM 2.3 it's important to be on the JellyBean boot-loader.
If you are still on ICS upgrade to JB. (I won't go into rooting, saving root, custom recovery...blah blah)
Once you have Scotts CleanROM flashed and working.
Simply flash Clemsyn's kernel from a custom recovery.
I will say the risk is less than moderate.
I have had a good experience to this point in time.

*Trying to stay simple here so I won't post links and other confusion.
I'm kind of a dummy or "newbster" if you will myself.
Once I got unlocked I was committed to either bricking or learning how to do this.
I made the mistake of installing Scotts ROM then flashed Clemsyn's over an ICS downgrade.
Dismal results there...so I just started from scratch...learned about flashing thru ADB from my windows PC.
I recommend getting to know the ADB (android development bridge) commands.
ADB is just a command prompt...like a DOS window that speaks to Android on a device.
It's certainly possible to crap the tab using it, yet it's an invaluable tool for flashing.
Used hiemanshu's method to gain root after flashing JellyBean .18.
Worked very well once the procedure clicked in my head.
Tons of help here at the development paradise known as XDA...

Simply flash the kernel.
It works in addition to CleanROM.

Ok. Awesome! Thanks. If it causes problems for my device, does TWRP allow me to unflash (if that is even a thing)?
Sent from my HTC Rezound
I built a flashable zip with the clean ROM stock kernel. I'll send you a copy of you need it, and you can flash it just like you do with Clemsyn's kernel. I doubt you'll need it...
As noted above, you want to be on the JB (10.x) bootloader. Nothing to do with losing root, saving root, accessing recovery, and all that crap, but there's a restriction on the 9.x bootloader that restricts increased voltages, and this restricts the higher clock speeds associated with the increased voltage...
Personally I would make a backup of the tablet without the Kernal just in case then flash the kernal and if for some reason it doesnt work or you dont like it then you can go back to the recovery.
Don't forget to do a backup in TWRP before each step.
I have been renaming my backups ie; B4CL22, B4CL23, B4Clems22 and so on...you get the idea.
I can keep them straight that way.
Backups are very important as I now know.

Hello everyone from XDA forum. I am new to everything in this forum lol. I currently have TF300T tablet running the latest 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and Build 10.6.1.15.3. After a week of research over the internet, I have finally unlocked my boot loader and rooted the tablet. I followed the directions from the top of the page of this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204166 on how to install the new [CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.6.9]. My flashing steps are as follow.
1. Made a nandroi backup with twerp TWRP 2.5.0.0
2. While still in TWRP I hit install CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.6.8. Zip when finish I wipe dalvik and cache after rom flash
3. I then hit install again and flash CROMI-X 4.6.9 System Patch Download 1 - 151.88 KB when finish I wipe dalvik and cache after rom flash
4. Booted into system successfully and let the system stay idle for 10 minutes (assuming this is what stabilzing the rom meant)
5. I ran quadrant and only got a score improvement from 3393 stock to a 4601 with the cromi 4.6.9 as oppose to the 6614 score shown on the [CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.6.9] forum page
So my main concern is did I do something wrong in the process of installing the custom rom? I really want to get that quadrant score of 6614. If anyone from the team can help I be much appreciated. Thank you
The screenshot showed the result from the TF700 which obviously have a faster CPU then the 300. You should look at the individual scores at the bottom or you can flash a custom kernel to overclock your device. Even then, I don't understand why you are distressing yourself over something of such trivial significance.
Hint Hint http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40919820&postcount=71 ive got benchmarks of 7000 with it on cromi. Which is about he same as most tf700s, only the tf700 has higher overclocked kernels available, higher revisions of our cpu should be able to handle the same overclocks, but there isn't a high oc kernel to test yet

Well the reason I unlock my tablet was to unleash its full potential with a stable overclock thats why I wanted to reach the "6614" score on quadrant. Anyway, thanks for clarifying. I didn't know that it was a tf700 score, just assume that installing that rom would yield a higher score.

Hey JoinTheReamls, that's an awesome score. Didnt think it was possible to bench that high on a tf300t. Is that kernel from the link you shown provide a stable over clock for a 24/7 a day usage? If not are there any other kernel that's compatible with my current custom ROM? If the rom you mention is stable, how would I go about installing this kernel on my tf300t running 4.2.1 Cromi 4.6.9? Please be thorough with your installation step as I am still fairly a noob. Thank you

That kernel is completely stable for me and should be for you to, if it isnt for you there is a kernel in that thread with 1.75ghz overclock that will be.
installation is very easy, just reboot to twrp and flash the zip. No need for any wipes, this is the same for most android kernel install across most devices
Enjoy
I am pretty sure the Quadrant scores are based on performance mode selected. Try that. I'm getting close to 6000 if I do this.

You should be able to get over 6000 on the TF300 with Hunds kernel. That's will probably be 1000 less.

Hi,
I've been using cromi-x rom for several months (v5.2.3 with kernel thatv7 and fsync off) and it run really fine. I even don't consider to install data2sd or rom2sd as performance already meets my needs due to fsync off.
But i'm a curious man and i'm interested in testing another rom : cm11. But i have few questions about that (i did not find answers in existing threads) :
- does cm11 correct the tf700 i/o issue (with sync off for example) and will i get as good performance than on cromi-x ?
- i have TWRP installed but CM requires CWR. Which one is compatible with both roms (so that i can easily switch back from one rom?to the other) ?
Thanks

I doubt it since essentially it is hardware related (cheap memory) and I doubt that the CM team found a better way to mitigate it than sbdags.

TWRP 2.6.3.2 also works with CM11. It also seems to work fine with CROMi-X.
sbdgas just modded the rom2sd2 script to run CM11 as rom2sd with _thatv7 on internal. Somebody else tried the same scenario with Hund's kernel - both ran like syrup it seems....
But give it a shot running CM11 on internal with TWRP 2.6.3.2! That's what nandroids are for

As far as I understand, the solution was to put fsync to off. Maybe CM has also implemented that solution, but I don't find any information about that on CM thread / website.

Yep you're right, I see that there is a thread explaning that, I will read it and try to apply it. I'll give news about my testing but that will take a few days probably as i'm very busy at the moment at home.
I've read the dual-boot internal+external rom thread and it needs a linux machine which i don't have. Could i do that gparted configuration with a live-linux CD ?
And about performance, does the option "fsync off" exist in CM11 ? If not then i don't expect good performance/no-lag like on CROMI-X and i would be then not interested to test CM.

Not all kernels that support f sync off support cm11, the only cm11 kernel besides the stock cyanogen mod one is bryce09's and that still has bugs. CM 11 with the build.prop tweaks, clean master, lagfix, and crossbreeder give performance better then CROMI-X with no overclock.

Warning: This is the Experimental Tweaks (ET) on hund's kernel v3.4.5 for hardcore users and tinkers only and tested on Cromi X v5.4. If you want a stable kernel, you can use Hund's kernel v3.4.5 from his original post below please. PLEASE STOP HERE IF YOU ARE NOT THEM, THANKS.
Hund's kernel is developed by Hundsbuah and you can find more information here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2143093
I am running this ET for a while and have 6 testers on this ET too. It is very stable and fast in my opinion. Let me know if you are running into any issue or bug, thanks.
Preparation:
1. Backup your whole device in the TWRP and backup all your personal files to your external SD or your computer, just in case.
2. Remove any UV/OV scripts from the init.d folder before installing this tweaks
3. Remove the Fsync script from the init.d folder if any
4. Go to the Asus customized setting and Uncheck the "Enable smart backlight adjuster"
5. Download the correct ET zip for your file system below
Installation:
1. Reboot to your TWRP or custom recovery
2. Install the zip
3. Have fun...
Setting for this ET:
--Power Saving Mode: CPU/GPU: 1.1G/520M, Balance Mode: 1.4G/520M, and Performance Mode: 1.7G/700M
--Interactive Governor and SIO Scheduler
--Westwood TCP Congestion Control
--Fsync off
--CPU temperature throttle at 70 Celsius
--Power Saving Mode is setup for games. You can run most of games in this mode.
--Balance Mode is a daily usages beside gaming.
--Performance Mode is not for games except for daily usages. I am only playing games in this mode during the Winter because it is also my portable heater...
I have the f2fs for Data2sd on the data partition that I am running if you need it please let me know so I can upload it for you.
Problems: For some reasons that your device is not booting, you may want to restore your system backup only and you should be up running from your previous setup...
Zip files:
---hund-v3.4.5_ET-v1.13.8_ext4 - For your internal data running ext4 file system.
---hund-v3.4.5_ET-v1.13.8_f2fs - For your internal data running f2fs file system.
Update: v1.13.9 should run roughly about 7 degree Celsius cooler than the v1.13.8 without suffering any performance loss which gives more battery life...
Update 1: If you are running f2fs on the internal /data partition, please install the ET_v1.13.10_f2fs. There is a bug in both ET-v1.13.8_f2fs and ET-v1.13.9_f2fs. It could cause some issues with data corruption.
Update 2: ET_v1.13.12 has very good battery life and very smooth....
Update 3: V2.0 should work properly without any bug and stable. Battery life should be better. For some reasons that your device does not run as smooth and fast as other users. You may want to update to the latest ET "build.prop". Good lucks and have fun.... Jelly Bean is probably end of life and this version may be the last release because I am getting bored with tweaking this device. I hope that I will see you in another Forum and see you all....
Bugs Reported
1. Dualboot is not working reported by Ananasnonym.
2. WLAN may be not working reported by Ananasnonym. Other users reported that it works...
3. A bug in the booting script f2fs zip found by me. Fixed with ET-v1.13.10.
Please report any bug or problem, thanks and enjoy.....
I am willing to test an f2fs version for you

I have a data2sd zip using f2fs that I can upload for you now but if you need f2fs for the internal data, you have to wait until Monday when I am back home to use my PC...

Not sure this will work on a 201 without some extra changes to the kernel. Flumpster used to mess around with hunds to get it working properly.

Not yet as I use CROMi-X as my work machine so I have to re-secure the kernel and unroot it due to our draconian policies.
But I will diff your changes and look at porting them over to combi-kk Which I use as my play machine as ROM2SD

Thanks for a feedback...:good: It is a good start without any issue. You are the second testers using the f2fs on internal data with "discard" mounting option enable.. Some users reported that they have issue with booting when "discard" are enable on Kitkat Rom using f2fs. That is worry me a bit. For performance, it should be at least the same as your previous setup but it is more likely better... I am tweaking on wifi a lot and see improving on a large file download. Please pay attention in that area and report back. I have a mix feedback about wifi improvement from my testers. Some said it is better and some said it is the same. One said it is worst than before, haha. I don't know what is the true result...
About the tf201, I saw hund source code including the tf201 but the kernel is using higher OV for CPU/GPU setting. You may want to adjust the voltages to your needs for the tf201, good luck...:fingers-crossed:

I am at the airport right now and don't have any access to my PC. I will take a look into it when I am home. BTW, I don't know anything about tf201 but I will look into it. The best bet is to ask the question on hundsbuah post. You can get there with the link on post #1.
Edit:
Do you see any performance improvement so far with this ET?

Possible kexecboot with data2sd?
Hey, I extracted the kernel (zImage) and ramdisk (initrd.img) from the zip (blobunpack and unpackbootimg) so that I can use it with kexecboot menu for linux multiboot, but it does not start Android (I have a data2sd setup). That10 boots fine in a setup like this, but I want to use the ET
Any ideas?

Does it work with the earlier ET version? I just updated my crosstool chain and may changed somethings in the kenel configure setting. I will take a look at it when I am back from my business trip....

Yes it worked with earlier Versions (The one you sent me for testing and old old published ET). Might be that you deactivated kexec in the config? (Just a guess)
