Next phone upgrade? - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

Okay I hope I am allowed to post this in general, and I hope no one gets offended by anyway lol
I am going off to college (UCSD) this fall. I am considering buying an iPhone just for the fact that I want a completely functioning phone as my daily driver and I don't want to find myself trying to solve issues during school.
I am asking for some opinion.
I love android and flashing, but I find myself using a lot of time doing so, I dont want to do this and get distracted while I dorm in college and have other things to worry about.
I guess my question is, should I consider a new iPhone, or are the new phones like the s4 just as reliable? I know I'm going to get a variation of opinions, but that's what I want I really cannot make up my mind lol.
It just seems to me that all the apps are more reliable to use on an iPhone since they are developed for that specific device etc.
Thanks in advance for your opinion

the iPhone 5 is great device if you find one on a good price... has LTE for T-Mobile...
the only drawback si the there will b a new iPhome comming out in the nexts 3 month, so if you buy it brand new on a full price, you will lose bout $300 in value by that time...
might consider finding one on craigslis for $400sh, but be carefull, as i just got burned w a lemon last week...
bought a NOTE 2 for $360... used it for 4-5 days and got reported stolen... no service...
going to sell it for $300sh now for use on another Network, and take the loss...
back to the Blaze for now...

Have you considered running just stock on the blaze? If you want real, real stable/reliable, stock is the way to go for this phone. No need to troubleshoot issues, wipe davlik, catlog and that kind of stuff. This also applies to all smartphones. Part of flashing a non-stock rom is assuming that nothing is ever 100% stable, but can be sometimes. Most roms are 99% stable, but it seems to be that the time you REALLY need your phone for something you discover that 1% bug
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to see what Thomas will bring with all his hard work on CM 10.1. But I just haven't ever been happy with standby battery life on CM10/CM10 based roms. That and wifi calling is a must in my basement (where my home office is).
Back on topic... regardless which device you get running stock will ensure 100% stability, that or running a stock themed/debloated/deodexed rom is also a safe way to go. Not to knock iPhones (they aren't that bad), but my father in law seemed to always be having issues with his iPhone 4. He kept losing his contacts. He just got a 5 a few days ago so I don't know how that will fare... I personally have over $100 in apps from the play store, and I don't want to have to buy apps all over again... soo.... My next phone will be a nexus 5 (got 4 bills saved already!) :good::victory: Just a few months to wait!
So yeah, I would recommend a nexus 5. Just wait 2 1/2 more months... rumors have it dropping in October. Current rumors have it with a snapdragon 800 (double the graphics perf from the 600 and modest clock bump), and a Nikon camera... drool....

yeah im looking to buy a Nexus 5 aswell, but i dont think it will have the latest procesor
its a mid tier phone, i personaly will be just happy w a LTE chip and timely updates...
whatever else they can cramp over my expectations its a plus
PS the Note 3 will be a beast... rumored to have the new flexible displays that you can not break and that latest procesor w 3GB RAM and LTE-A ...

Nexus 5? New Nexus Phone "the Moto X" will be most likely shown on August 1 as Motorola has already sent invitations. I have yet to see the Nexus 5.

which Android to buy kindly advise

hi
Hi sorry if this is the wrong place to as this question but kindly advise
im planning to buy anew Android phone preferably a HTC(no offense to other brands its just the feeling that a known devil is better than an unknown angel that's all i have been using HTC for around 2yrs and absolutely no problem till date)
i was looking at the tatoo but it seems to be same as my jade with android but it seems to be the only affordable for me so can any one kindly advise on which one to buy
i would have been really happy if i could get android os for my jade but it seems to be an impossibility as of now and my crazy itch to buy anew phone and a android is kinda taking over(the wife is gona kik my A**)
Well, if I Were to make a speculation without being biased.. I would say Flash 10 is coming soon enough and according to Adobe the only 2 android phones strong enough to run the full package are the Nexus and the Moto Droid. All the other models (HTC etc.) are running flash light which is a half baked memory hog.. 'but it works'.
Also, 99% of the applications/mods I have seen are working on the Droid or compiled specifically for the droid.
In the case of you being a 'I dont want to or need to root' person I would say simply... If your going to build a computer.. would you build a 486 or a pentium 3 OR would you build something that will at the least run the current existing and immediate next gen software?
Hope Ive helped you out.

If the OP wants HTC, why not the Desire? Aiui HTC make both the Nexus for Google & the Desire under their own brand; the two are virtually identical wrt hardware, with the Desire being described by some as the Nexus with HTC's Sense ui added. OTOH the Nexus might get more timely updates than HTC's phones.

Except that 2.1 will be released in september.
I would advise not to get the Nexus One. The Nexus One has broken multi-touch (because of the sensor that it uses), poor build quality (touchscreen messing up, weird tint on the touchscreen, paint chipping off, etc), and is showing its age already in the USA.
The HTC devices may have flash lite now (I'm talking about the ones that have HTC SENSE) but they are upgradeable to the latest full flash 10.1 once it comes out.
I would go with the HTC Desire or HTC Legend for now but in the USA T-Mobile USA will release the MyTouch Slide (made my HTC) and it will have the same specs as the Nexus One except it will have a 600 mhz processor versus a 1 ghz processor but it has an external keyboard. If you want that, then you can buy it unlocked.

thanks to all who have been kind enough to reply
but looks like all the phones u have advised on are currently too costly in my country(India) around 400 -500$ roughly its kinda costly for me so i have no other option to may be wait for some time till they do come down in price and it does happen all new phones come down on price in about 3-6 months of their intro but thanks guys it was very very nice of you to give me ur kind advise but i dont know why but if i buy i think it would mostly be a HTC brand some how im very happy with my experience with this brand
thanks again guys so nice of you to give me such nice advise
Simple choice...
HTC Desire. IMHO.
I ordered a SIM free HTC Tattoo today. I have 8 months left on my current 18 month contract with my SE W995 which does pretty much most of what I need however I wanted a phone I could use Spotify on and maybe a few other apps. I was torn between the iPhone (yes I know...) and the HTC Desire, both of which I would need to buy SIM free for £400-£450 but in the end I opted for the HTC Tattoo which while limited in specs compared to my other options it'll still do every thing I need from at at only £180! I may get a new phone when my contract ends, but for now I wanted something inexpensive.
would it cost too much to invest in the Motorola Milestone?
thats the out-of-the-US counterpart to the Droid. same hardware but running Android 2.0.1
just throwing that out there.
also, I'm sure you could find a MyTouch or another htc smartphone on eBay for quite cheap.

You know... good phones are bound to be expensive ...
I'm in a country with similar situation as yours (billions of people!) and I can fully understand the pain you are suffering: want to buy a fair device with reasonable prices.
HTC phones are not cheap at all. Try find a Italian version Dream in gray market. It it old and not fully-functioned like these mentioned above, but its price is also cheaper:250USD in my country with much of the playable features.
Sorry for my poor English. I'm not a native.

Actually, these days, it seems that everything anyone wants to do or figure out has been done before.
There is always a way around something.
Proxies, budgets, wants/needs. I'm pretty sure you could get an unlocked iPhone 3G and run Android on it (via OpeniBoot) or go with an unlocked T-Mobile G1. I'd definitely give you any spare android-running phone I had if I had an extra..... I'm sticking to the droid for as long as I can.
Also, try googling around or asking in Yahoo Answers- I'm pretty sure there's someone out there who is a non-horder who just happens to have a spare Android phone. Sorry for your luck My problem is that I can't use my awesome Droid outside of the U.S. (hence why I mentioned the Motorola Milestone, as that would really come in handy for me)

[Q] Ripping My Hair Out!

Hi all. As I'm sure you can see, this is my first post on XDA. This seemed like the perfect smartphone related community, so I joined up, and I look forward to becoming a long time active member. Now, to the point of this thread. I am looking to pick up my first ever smartphone(yes yes let the laughter out, I still own a Nokia from the stone age, and its' embarrassing to pull it out in public lol). I really had my heart set on the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE. By the way, I am from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and am a Rogers Wireless customer, and that is their version of the Samsung Galaxy S II. But after extensive research, which actually brought me to XDA, I found out that they have a massive screen defect issue with the vertical lines and blobs. Although, some people, from what I've read, have said that it isn't such a big deal, while others just can't stand it. With that information, I am back at square one. I do not know what phone to get. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is just way too big in my opinion, as I have held one. And next to Samsung, I think the best wireless company would probably be Motorola. With that, I was thinking about possibly picking up the Motorolo RAZR. Is that a good choice over the Galaxy S II? Bad choice? It has gotten some stellar reviews, but it seems that the Galaxy S II is the superior phone out there. So my question is, what should I get? I know a few people that have had issues with their HTC's, so I'm not really leaning toward them. What should I do? This is driving me crazy. I want a new phone sooooo badly, but don't know what to choose. Any help or advice is truly appreciated!! Thank you so much.
Motorola doesn't look so good when it comes to updating their devices, if you are to consider that the atrix has not been announced on their road map to ICS. That may change, but for now, it doesn't look like they are keen on updating their devices.
Just to point it out, every phone has issues, but usually it is a minority that experience these issues. So just saying, a HTC phone will have the same amount of issues as a Samsung one. But now comes my bias, I love my sgs 2, and would fully recommend it.
I'd go for the LTE SII, it's a very nice phone and one problem that only a couple people are reporting should never discourage you from getting a good phone
Wait. Wait for more native ics phones. If you can hold out, I'd recommend you wait for a phone that already has the new firmware.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
well my suggestion goes against what you are looking for, but it's a rock solid performer; HTC Droid Incredible 2. it's a 3G only device, it's about six months old, and has a great community behind it. there are a few great stock ROMs to select from, and quite a few Sense 3.5 ROMs as well.
this is my first android device, and my second HTC device. i am very happy with it, and i have no buyer's remorse given the latest and greatest new phones on the market. it handles everything i throw at it, it has no compatibility issues on the Market for my uses. i'm not much of a phone gamer, but it plays my tower defense games like Sentinel 3 smoothly.
battery life is great for me. i can get a day out of it with my normal use; gmail on push, about an hour's worth of calling, 40-50 sms, 30-45 minutes of gaming, 30 minutes of forum and web browsing, and maybe 100MB of downloads.
give our forum a look-see, i think you may be impressed. but is you have your heart set on LTE, you will have to look elsewhere.
Me too!!

I would so be down to have an international one shipped to me except:
a)When it comes to a phone, I prefer to buy a brand spanking new device.
b)I'm the type of person, especially for a purchase like this, that likes to see/hold the product before I buy it.

You know, every phone has its defect. Theres just no such phone that doesnt have any problems with its production.
You saw many messages about defective screen, thats only because SGS2 is one of most popular smartphones right now, and there are many buyers. Many phones, some % of them is defective.
Happy ppl got their SGS2 without defect and they are using it, and dont complain. But only those who got some problem, go to forum, do research and so on. They post about their problem. There are many ppl with such problems, but there are much more ppl who are lucky to have their phone without any defects or whatever problems.
Chances to get such phone with defect is very small. Theres just some % of phones which are defective. Imagine situation: 100 motorolas sold out, 1 of them (1%) was defective . You go to forums and see only 1 post about defective phone. 100000 SGS2 sold out, and 1000 of them (its same 1%) was defective. You go to forums and see OMG 1000 posts about defective SGS2, but it is the same % as motorolas. Just different quantity.
all the numbers I used are just an example
So.. SGS2 is a good choice.

[Q] stay with this phone or exchange?

hi everyone,
i have a quick question, i just upgraded my phone to the nexus s from sprint, they give me 13 days to return if i wanted to do that, the main reason i got this phone was for the NFC chip to be able to use google wallet, however i got it and i can't even use it becasue the prepaid card from google wallet is not working i called them and they say that the system is down and it wouln't go back on for about 2 weaks.
My question is do you guys think i should stay with this phone or i should bring it back and exchange to the galaxy s2 epic 4g?
thanks for all of your input on this.

I'd prefer a Nexus phone over anything. An unlockable bootloader if you want to flash your own ROM's and the fastest OTA's if you want to stay stock.
The only phone worth exchanging it for is the Galaxy Nexus, in my opinion. But I don't really see the need yet. The Nexus S is a great phone, even though the specs may be less astonishing than many new phones.

When I first got my NS4G I got bored of it quick. I was used to HTC Sense. I have almost traded it and/or sold it many times, but when it gets down to it I CANNOT part with this phone. The Nexus is one of the greatest phones. Pure Google, no Sprint or Samsung bloatware. I have learned so much with this phone.

[Q] Note 3 or G2 ? (Multiple Questions)

I got the Galaxy Note 3 about 5 days ago, and I love it, its a powerhouse, doesn't slow down no matter what i throw at it. The S-pen is pretty fun too. The Air commands are relevant in some cases, but most of the time its just used as a sort of party trick, there are only a couple that I actually use everyday. But the downfall so far, which is a big one for me, is the fact that I can't do any ROMs or other types of Customization (kernels, Overclocking, etc etc) Which is my favorite part about having an android phone. I specifically taught myself some coding just so I could make my own roms. And before this I had the S3 and S4, and with the excellent ROM community the S3 and to some extent the S4 had, I assumed the GN 3 would too.
So with that being said, I've been thinking of selling it on Swappa and getting the LG G2 with the unused upgrade I have on my account.
So Basically what I wanna hear from you guys is your opinions about this. I am worried that I am gonna sell the GN3 for the G2, and then have buyers/sellers remorse, and it will be too late.
And How do you guys think the two devices stack up against each other and also what is the Dev support for the G2 like so far ? From what I've seen just browsing through the G2 forum on here, it looks like they already have some good ROM's available.
and the last thing I was curious about, is how many of you that own the GN 3, will use custom ROM's on your device if/when the Dev's figure out how to unlock the bootloader or some type of work around. I've read some stuff saying that using ROM's on the GN3 might not be such a great idea, since ROM's like CM and such, couldn't include support for the S-Pen and some of the other stuff that makes the GN3 what it is. Which I don't see why they couldn't include the use of the S-Pen and Multiwindow in the ROMs.
Sorry for asking so many questiosn in one post, but I have been bouncing this around in my head for 2 days now and can't make a decision. My back up plan is just to sell the GN3, re-activate my GS3 and wait for the Nexus 5. But I am enjoying having a Phablet, so wanted to stay with something bigger then 5"

Note 3, just go for it man !
I have the G2 with Cyanogen Mod installed. The phone is a nice size and this ROM is better than stock in my opinion. I didn't get the note 3 because of price and it was too big anyway. You can actually get the G two on Amazon for Verizon for one cent. Maybe for other carriers too I'm not sure.

Well like I said, I already have the Note 3, got it about 5 days ago now, maybe 4, been a long week lol I love it, and it kicks every other phone's ass in sheer power. But as I also said, Being able to mod my phone is a huge huge part of the reason I buy one. Guess I shoulda done a lil more research about it first instead of just assuming.

Yea I saw that 1 cent thing. I could just open a new line on my account instead of using the upgrade and just switch everything over to the new line. The upgrade price is still 99$ which isn't bad, but 1 cent is better. And
CM is awesome, I've used it on several of my devices the only two that I've had that wouldn't work with it were my POS LG Revo and now my Bad-ass but Uber-Locked Note 3. And there are so many other ROM's, including writing my own, that I want to use. I love this note 3 a lot, but wtf, why can't they just let us mod our damn phones. We paid for em, its not gonna hurt them. The Knox Security should only be on government used devices as it was originally intended since the DoD/CIA/FBI etc etc has approved the use of Smartphones by their employees as official work devices. So of course they need there's to be secure, but I don't, I need it to be mine. The reason i dont like iPhone is cause it doesn't feel like its mine phone, I can't really do what "I" want with it, but android, i could always do whatever i wanted to it, make it look, feel, run, how I liked it. And they wanna take away one of the biggest and best reasons that put Android devices above the rest. Bull**** !
I think we should stage Coup of VZW and Samsung, and make some of the Dev's from here the CEO's of each of them. The world would be a better place. Maybe even stop world hunger lol
Another Question -
Do you think there is a noticeable difference in the 2GB of RAM in the G2 vs the 3GB of RAM in my Note 3 ?
oh and anyone know when the HTC One Max is supposed to come out, cause I am thinking about that as well. I looked it up earlier, but forgot what it said for release date, and wasn't sure if it was a legit one or just rumored

[Q] Buying the Nexus 5 today

Im in the hunt for a new phone. Ive been thinking about buying the new Z3 Compact when its launched but I cannot stand the modified android version the different manufacturers are using, I HAVE to run vanilla or close to it. I know I could root any phone and install stock android on it but im not sure if its worth the hassle for me considering it takes time to make a stable rom etc.
The perfect phone would be a smaller Nexus 5 in my mind, good usability in one hand and fast updates. I guess it wont exist in the near future tho?
Is it a smart decision to buy the Nexus 5 today?
Get one. If you don't like it you can return it. Only you can decide if you like the N5
N5

I just received mine in the mail today, I love it. It feels so sturdy and solid, I will be keeping it for a long time.
I forgot to mention, I have used the N5 for a couple of weeks and I really like it. Do you think I just should go for it?
absolutely ! go and buy one !
Get it and start having a great time with the Nexus5 on XDA!
I have owned every nexus made and the nexus 5 is an amazing device. I highly recommend it
I know the N5 is an awesome device, I'm just worried about the Android silver program being released and all of a sudden there are plenty of "nexuses" around to chose from. Do you guise think it will be announced any time soon?

Hard to say... but don't hold your breath!
I don't see how any android silver device could touch the $350 price tag. Your only competition would be the moto x in this price point.

Asking in the Nexus 5 forum whether or not to buy the Nexus 5? Great!
Anyways, just like the others, I will suggest you to get it but the Nexus 6's rumors have started again and this time around it's been manufactured by Motorola!
Alright, I'm getting the nexus. You guise convinced me. Now I just have to decide on colour! What do you guise think about the different colours?

Different colours for different schmullers. Pick whats best for you. This also goes for custom roms. Dont ask us when you get it what rom you should use. Please just make up your own mind.
You have had help deciding whether or not to get the nexus 5 I think it is best you decide which color you like when you get to the store or if your purchasing online then look at the colors there. The color part isn't much of a big deal and mainly comes down to personal preference. So I think it would be best for you to decide on your own
