i have tried the manual driver install (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901617) but windows doens't even let me install it it says "your drivers are up to date" and only a close button.
please guys i'm dying without USB storage, what should i do? i really really need usb storage work, just can't figure how....
Could be drivers on phone or windows?

hello,i have several problems that are making me very angry.i use updated windows 7 32 bit.
1.i have samsung kies and my device was working normaly, but then today when i connected my phone to pc i got code 43 error device not recognized.i tryed reinstalling kies uninstalling drivers re installing nothing helps i cant even connect when i am in download mode same error.I NEED SOME ANSWERS ASAP COZ IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY.
2.this one is bit smaller but also annoying,it was happening while usb connection was still working, when i connect my phone(any mode kies or mass storage),then when i copy files from pc to phone it working fine, but when i try to copy something from phone to pc i get random disconnects (connection loss) there is no logical explenation coz its totally random, lets say i copy 100 pics i get dc after 10 then i reconnect phone and click retry he copy 15 more and dc again.
Any1 will any solution plz help coz my phone is at mess atm and cant flash anything.
the source of the usb issue may be your computer.
1) did you always use the same usb port for your phone?
2) how old is your computer?
3) do you live in a humid environment?
I live on guam, and on my older laptop (only two years old!!!), running winxp, 3 of 4 usb ports are no longer usable due to corrosion. they give errors and even when working, sometimes I could lose the connection by moving the cable slightly. also, the last usb port is now getting difficult to use because it's hard to plug in anything
so, if you answered yes to #1, try another port and be prepared to install the drivers again.
if you answered yes to #3, be prepared to replace your usb if they are indeed corroded
well thnx for answer, but my pc is new like 7 months old,usb ports are working just switched mouse and phone mouse working phone not.its driver relater before i had that error and some1 from xda told me to delete everything(kies drivers) related to phone and his drivers and it worked i also see that error(code 43 is common) but fix with uninstalling driver(worked before now doesnt).thing is that something at that moment didnt work well on phone(last time it was my external sd card had to format it)and now pc keeps repeating same error.simply even tho all drivers are installed i get device not recognized, and under device manager it unknown device, also when i tick option to see hidden devices i see omap 3630 but state is unconnected.

When transferring files to and from pc, do you use the original USB cable that came with the phone? Because when i use other cables, i have this issue, when i use the original cable, no probs at all.
if that also doesnt work, try formatting internal and external SD cards

i use original cable and also i did format both external and internal cards several times my first problem is kinda more important atm.
ok i tried connecting my phone to secondary pc running xp gave me same error but simple uninstall of driver and reinstall made it work cant fix it on win 7.
Edit: damn phone wont connect when in download mode cant flash anything -.-.
Connect the phone and go to device manager
If you see the i9003 driver uninstall it then connect the phone to pc again
now windows 7 will download the driver automatically
that's how I fixed my problem
I have the mobile in s-off and with root permissions, MIUI had installed 2.2.17, and had no problem to connect the mobile to the PC and the mobile ask me if I want to connect as mass storage or just load. Until a few days left to ask me ... Mac thought it would be and the same probe in windows, restart the phone and nothing. I tried to install another ROM the CyanogenMod 7.1 and the problem continued. Now I'm back to the latest version of MIUI I think it's 24 and still have problems. I tried to format the microSD card from android and pc / mac but nothing. To say that from a file browser in android if I see all the files correctly.
I tried installing a version prerooted but the problem continues.

Have you installed the required drivers for your phone? Just install HTC Sync and it will do that for you automatically.
(At least for Windows - I don't have a Mac so i can't comment on that)
I tried with HTC Sync and nothing. I changed the kernel version of a saga tiamat 1.1.5 (before had the kernel 2.6.35.14-cyonagenmod + [email protected] # 1)
............ UP!!
Have you tried to mount as USB disk when in recovery?
Yes. Nothing

A friend once ran into a similar problem. It turned out to be luck had run out on his micro-USB port. A similar problem I once had turned out to be faulty USB ports on my laptop. I'd suggest you look into both scenarios.
*I'm saying it's likely a hardware problem*

If he tried to mount on other computers, with different OS, and still no luck, then yes, I guess it is definitely a HW problem.
@pasteles
Does the phone still charge?
I have the same problem with my TouchPad, no mounting as usb disk at all, when charger is connected the charging symbol comes up, but the current coming through the port is not enough to charge it. So I think the USB port has some faulty pins. In any case, faulty USB.
You can take a chance with the warranty or find someone able to replace the port.
i ran into this problem a few weeks back also and the problem was a faulty usb port and cable........ i changed the cable and reinstalled the drivers and i was back to a working usb

Right, I forgot the part about the faulty USB cable. Most often, it's actually the cable. Then the computer's USB port. Unlikely (and worrisome) is the probability of the micro-USB port of the Desire S having gone bad.
Hi guys,
I just have received a i9023 from a friend to repair. I put fastboot on and the device is unlocked, then I copied over Matr1x kernel via USB to the SD card and flashed CMW to recovery.
From here things went bad.
When trying to update the kernel to Matr1x, it showed that the file wasn't on the SD card anymore, so I tried to mount the SD card to copy it back, but it my computer wouldn't see it. Since then I tried many things to get the USB working - updating drivers etc... after awhile I decided to format SD card, which didn't help, so I formatted all the partitions on the phone.
Now, every time the phone comes on, it boots straight to fastboot, but also the PC will still not recognise the phone via USB.
I've tried getting into Download mode and using ODIN to flash a new kernel & ROM, but this wont work without USB working.
Can anyone help?
PS. I have read many other guides and posts, but nothing has helped.
Many thanks.
*Bump*
Are you running Ubuntu or similar? You need to be root to use fastboot and edit the right config files
wait, did you go to the mount menu in cwm? You can mount as usb storage in that menu... Are you saying it doesn't show up on your computer? Are you running windows?
I've a friend in the same situation.
We managed to make the phone recognizable using pda.net driver for nexus S, but weren't abel to find a single tar file to use on Odin.
Seems that all stocks rom were deleted from any storage.

Yes, I tried to mount as USB Storage in the Recovery Menu - didn't work, but now, I've only got fastboot - Booting up the phone normally jumps straight to fastboot, trying to boot into recovery doesn't work (just the fallen over Android pic with the red "!" on his chest).
I'm using Windows 7 and computer will not recognise the phone at all (it was working before this & the MicroUSB port is not damaged).
My GT-i9100 works perfectly via USB.

If I can get it to connect to my PC so I can throw a stock ROM on there via ODIN I should be right (Pretty sure SAMFIRMWARE has some).
I've found often that the sdcard only gets mounted when you "choose zip from sdcard" in recovery. I panicked once with a galaxy s when I had forgot to put any rom on the sdcard and couldn't mount it subsequently. Ended up using heimdall with success. Also make sure you have latest version of fastboot, from platform tools 4.0.3.
Yeah, try Odin
If you can download sdk with the google drivers and install the drivers through device manager, you should be able to get your usb to connect again to fastboot. There is a bootloader driver inside the kit!

Yeah, it is definitely not connecting via fastboot. Windows 7 just comes up with UNKNOWN DEVICE., as does my WinPX machine. It's very strange.
Can you try Ubuntu? Any luck with Odin?

Does it say unknown device in device manager?
Sent from my ice cream powered Nexus S
I don't have a machine with Ubuntu on it unfortunately.
Yes, Unknown Device in Device Manager - it won't accept it when I point the new driver to the modified Google USB .inf file

Did you click the "Have disk" option, point it at the file then click one of the options? That's what I had to do

Yes, I did - it said that this inf (driver) doesn't contain information about the device in question.
I think I came across a USB driver problem once that was rectified by deleting the relevant keys from the registry. Could be worth looking into.
EDIT: Found it!
Open regedit and navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Enum > USBSTOR
and look for any devices that could be your nexus s.
I think they might be these:
Disk&Ven_Android&Prod_UMS_Composite&Rev_0001
Disk&Ven_Google&Prod_File-CD_Gadget&Rev_0000
You should be able to delete them (if not, change the permissions).
Then reboot and hopefully next time you plug in your phone, the drivers will reload.
Many thanks for all your help everyone; unfortunately I still have yet to figure out how to get this working. Please keep throwing out your ideas

I gave this a go as it sounded like a great idea, but unfortunately it still isn't working.
I ended up deleting the drivers it was installing which wouldn't work & now it will only show up as 2x Unknown device under 'Portable Devices' heading.
I think you should try installing ubuntu, and the android sdk so you have access to fastboot again.

I used odin to flash 2.3.6 firmware in download mode and it installed successfully, i wanted my mobile to connect to external storage device(i.e. pen drive) so i made a cable myself and also attache charger power source to that cable(hoping it would work.e. mount & read pendrive) ..After that my mobile wouldn't cnnect to my comp or laptop via usb data cable....it would charge but a usb data connection was not possible .. And finally after trying various methods i think it now is a hardware malfunction(becoz of me) and it should be given to a service center..
Rest all is working fine i can flash diff roms , camera ,wifi all working now using pacman rom so i thought service center would charge me more if i gave my mobile as it is.. they could easily charge more for seeing other rom installed So i wanted stock rom flashable by CWM..
So anyone's help is appreciated.. thanks...

what I understand from your posts is that your phone is perfectly fine but there is a problem with your pc and data cable.
Check with some other data cable, and re-install the samsung drivers for "device not recognized" error.
Use other usb port to check whether its a problem in your pc.

i never saw any such option on any rom yet!
whenever you connect with usb to a PC you get USB connected notification..click on it and enable mass storage.
never saw MTP & PTP in usb connections.
Which rom are you using?
If its 4.+ then try this

In Device Manager in Universal Serial Bus Controllers i uninstalled everything from ASMedia XHCi controllers to USB Root hub... all of them, then clicked scan for hardware changes then i connected my device to computer, then clicked the app USB mass storage for ics and JB ....on computer the elements(USb Root hub, etc.) reinstalled and there it detected my device as unknown device,,,,then for 5-10 sec a message flashed
something like this ,,...". I.I.I.I.I.I.I.I.I Ata mass storage " then it stopped showing not installed...
Using Pacman rom ..does have mtp, ptp, mass storage options..( when i tick any one of the three options it force closes)...
I googled over net on connectivity issue and will need sum time to format c drive and then try again...:fingers-crossed:
I wonder once in odin multi downloader i ticked the debug option only then i clicked delete driver option which may have caused the problem.......
Finally problem solved...replacing charging IC ( as the repairman said) solved comp connection problem then flashed stock rom....

The phone used to work with the same computer and USB cable?
If ur rooted install multirom and install cm13 as secondary os.. then connect to ur pc while ur in cm13 it will detect the driver after that unstall cm 13 and connect as u do normally
like if worked
hey i found away around it thx though!
How did you fix the problem?
"hey i found away around it thx though!"
But why in the name of all that's holy would you ask the question and then not share the answer for others who regularly have the same problem? Keeping info to yourself is the best way of maintaining your "zero thanks" status...
oh sorry for not sharing what i did to solve the problem! here is what i did!
1. connect phone to pc
2. unlock
3. swipe down and touch the notification that says "usb for charging touch for more options"
4. select the option you want
