clock work mod not mounting sd card - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hardware P5113
Stock: 4.1.1
I just used CF auto root because I could not get the philz_touch to work. After I rooted my device I installed GT-P5113_ClockworkMod-Recovery_6.0.1.2_Touch.tar. I am able to get to the CWM recovery but I can't get it to mount my SD card so I can take a backup to it and eventually install a rom from it. It says can't mount backup path. This sd card is formatted and working in the tablet!! Any ideal where I can find another version that might work with this? From what I read CWM was no longer available for tab 2 and therefore that's why philz_touch was created.

New external sd...what happens to cwm?

I'm thinking of getting a larger capacity sd card and am curious as to what I need to do. I'm running whitehawk's miui rom and it uses the external as the primary. I also have cwm on the external so what happens there?

Cwm is not "on" your external sdcard, it reads files "from" your external sdcard. Just swap the cards and you're done.

There's an alternate to the nvflash method where cwm is installed as /sdcard/update.zip, to keep the stock recovery on the phone but still have cwm when necessary. That's how it's done on my Vibrant, too, for example. Maybe that's what OP means.
In any case, just copy the contents of the old card to the new card. You can do it from within Android if you don't have a way to read the cards otherwise. If you're worried about problems, just backup with cwm before you copy the contents of the SD card over to your PC, then restore the backup after you've copied everything to the new SD if there are problems.

An update.zip file is an example of what cwm looks for to flash to the phone. Cwm (recovery) reads the update.zip from the sdcard and flashes it to the phone but update.zip is not cwm recovery.

SD card doesn't show up in Recovery

Hey guys,
I tried to flash my Eee Pad to official ROM and wiped everything off the tablet and when I tried to flash a ROM from my external SD card, the menu would go into the internal SD card only.
My tablet is stuck on the ASUS logo at the moment and it won't shut off nor will it recognize the external SD card necessary for me to flash a ROM.
What can I do?
In recovery...enable USB mount...plug to CPU...transfer the flashable zip to internal SD...
I'm on ClockworkMod Recovery v.5.5.0.4... I'm not seeing that option anywhere.
It's not under Mounts and Storage? Hmm. I used that recovery for only a minute...so not sure if that option was taken out....
I use Rogue version of the recovery. Its older...but for most of us normal flashers...it works well...it also includes the option to flash from external.
Is there anyway to transfer files from my PC to the tablet?

All fixed now! Used the NVflash and just fixed everything. Whew!

5.5.0.4 only read from internal sd
Well doesn't matter now since I used nvflash to revert back to stock but I'll keep that mind if there is a next time. Thanks.

Stuck at cm10 Bootani

Just unlocked using EZ. I'm running cwm 6.0.1.0 and the lk_aosp_jb_beta-v0.5 kernel. I am coming from stock rom I wiped data/cache/dalvik. I reboot come to the CMX cyanogenmod 10 boot animation screen and it just sits there with the screen flashing every few seconds.
I'm not sure what I've done wrong or what is going on. I'm using the 20120817-UNOFFICIAL cm10 rom. Id also like to note upon backing up roms I've been getting "Unable to find mounted volume /sdcard" "Error finding an appropriate backup handler" I try mounting the internal sdcard in cwm but it doesn't do anything, I can mount and unmount everything else. Please help me out?
Edit: I'm going to flash beans8 so I can check my external sdcard is formatted in FAT32
ReEdit: Still no luck. Any advice?
I think your best bet is to copy everything off of your sdCard and reformat it (Fat32 of course). Are you running the on-kexec CWM also?

Have you ODIN back to stock or rooted stock ?
plus /mnt/sdcard is the internal card /mnt/extSdCard is your external card

I was using the CWM 6.0.1 that was posted a few days ago for the kexec stuff. I was going to update to the latest official cmw but have not as of yet. I used EZ to flash the CWM I have now so I don't really know?

I had ODIN back to stock and then ran adam's CASUAL to root and unlock
I took all the info off my SD card last night formatted both through CWM and will give this another go with the new nightly build today. It was strange, with my external SD card mounted in the phone last night plugged into USB on my PC it listed both the internal and external as General hierarchy File systems. But when I pulled out the microSD and put it into my card slot adapter it showed it as a FAT32 card. I'm puzzled but either way I reformatted it to FAT32 and popped it back in the phone. Then I formatted the internal via CWM. Like I said I'll try it again in a few after I make some backups and titanium my stuff.
Just tried again. Still stuck on the boot animation screen. Everything is as it should be according to everything I've read.
EDIT: Finally got it. I flashed liquid and then flashed the new nightly over that after clearing data/cache/dalvik.

Failed to mount SD card in stock recovery

So Im starting my gamut of backups before i begin unlocking/rooting this thing and Ive run in to a little roadblock. Im currently trying to backup my IMEI/EFS per this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852255). Step one check. Step two no check: While trying to run the synergy zip, I am unable to mount the sdcard in stock recovery to "install the package". Apply update from external storage>E:failed to mount /sdcard (invalid argument). I have a 64GB scandisc mini that I have watched some movies off of ect. I didnt format it just used it out of the box. Any thoughts? Ill post if i figure out my user error...
Coming from droid charge mostly at rootzwiki, I would have posted this question to the thread linked above but XDA sayz I noob no can post developer thread X/
You have to be rooted to run the zip and on a custom recovery.
Edit: I'm not sure if you must be unlocked but I know you need to be rooted to run the Synergy zip. Also, custom recoveries only see your external sd card if its formatted to Fat32.

yea thats what i ended up doing, but it sounded like it could be done on a fully stock rom...

[Q] Not sure where im @?

Hi I'm a little bit confused and lost between stock recovery, cwm, rom manager and my new SD card.
I browsed 100s of threads and watch alot of good and some not so good videos but 'im still not sure what my best next moves are and why some things dont work.
I have a
Sansung GT i9300
Anroid 4.1.2
Baseband I900XXEMC2
Kernel 3.0.31-1032335 [email protected]#1SMP PEEMPT Mon March11 ..KST 2013
Build JZO54K.I9300XXEMC2
I wanted to use apps like Titanium BackUpPro and Avast so I rooted my phone flashing CWM v3.55 via Odin and have been using it with out any problems for a while.
Then I decided that I would like to flash a custom rom like cm and I downloaded Rom Manager thinking it to be the right tool... ?
I let Rom Manager flash the latest version of CWM recovery 6.0.4.6 ...
but when I look on the apps on my phone I find CWM v3.55-Chainfire ? and
if I try to update I get directed to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238
When booting in rcovery mode my phone enters the android system recovery e3 and I get an Error message:
E:faild to mount /data (invalid agrument)
What exactly does this mean ???
Should I try flashing CWM 6 non toutch via Odin or flash back stock ROM?
I thought I would try backing up to an ext SD card so I orderd a SanDisc mircosd 64GB card but the problem still remains.
I still cant back up my ROM using ROM Manager or CWM
Why ? What happend?
I tried formating the SD card with ROM Magager but SD card fails to load. I tried formating with gparted fat32. Still wont load...
The ext SD card shows up in the file exlporer on my phone just fine but
I can't seem to be able to get Rom Manager to recognize it and CWM recovery isn't working.
So instead of backin up my exsiting ROM to the SD card maybe it would be a better idea to install CWM and CM to the SD card
and keep my ROM on the internal SD as it is???
I tried creating a bootable ext sd card with CWM and CM like here:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_acclaim
but when it comes to booting the phone in recovery mode I still get the E:faild to mount /data (invalid agrument) message....?
How do I boot from ext sd card?
Whats my next best move?
I have a working rooted ROM on my local SD card with all my apps backed up in clowd. But my recovery mode issue remains to be resolved.
and I have a 64GB ext SD card with CWM and CM on it but I can't install with Rom Manager? because SD card fails to load.
Thanks for trying to follow so far!!!!

First option:
1- Download Philz recovery from: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/i9300/philz_touch_6.07.9-i9300.tar.md5
and flash it with odin 3.07or newer
2- Downlad SuperSu root from: http://vk.com/doc167892454_171297436?hash=877f29ccdb4e944a70&dl=28aabb49a7217e1962, copy to your device, go to recovery mode and do 'install zip from...'
Second option:
1- Download CF-Auto Root from http://download.chainfire.eu/229/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.zip, extract and flash it with odin (that should enable root permissions in your device).
2- Download CWM Manager from PlayStore and do a flash, or better- flash the Philz recovery as above (you don't neet the root file)
Follow the Odin packages instructions...?

Yep, follow it,
And yes- both backup and exSD use (called sdCard0 in the recovery), here's the developer's thread & guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860
Easy way to flash CWM or Touch wiz is to download EZ-Recovery from the play store, open the app scroll to recovery, click recovery and choose which one you want and click flash. Done. I personally like TW.
