which microSD card? - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

I am trying to choose between three SD Cards:
1. SanDisk Extreme 64GB $99
www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-microSDXC-Adapter-SDSDQX-064G-U46A/dp/B00D6XTMFC/
2. SanDisk Ultra 64GB $49
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter-SDSDQU-064G-AFFP-A/dp/B009QZH6JS
3. Sansung 64GB $65
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-microSDXC-MB-MGCGB-AM/dp/B009SK57ZQ/

I bought the Samsung card because it was said that it is the most reliable. So far no problems.

I have the Sandisk Ultra, no complaints.

i have the 2nd and 3rd cards you listed. both work very well for me. if you look around you can get good deals on the samsung card. i got one on ebay for $23. you do have to look out for counterfeits. luckily mine was legit.

I have the SanDisk Ultra 64GB in my S4 right now.
It works, but I'm getting sporadic "unexpected SD card removal" message followed by "preparing SD card". It seems like the card got unmounted and remounted by itself!
This usually happens whenever I open my Gallery. (I have set my camera to auto save images to the external SD card)
I'm not sure if it's hardware or software issue...

I bought the Samsung. It's very quick and so far has worked without any issues. Even formatted as exFAT.
Writes really are 20MB/s, though I topped out at 40 for reads.
I got this card reader to go with it: http://www.amazon.com/AnkerĀ®-Uspeed-Reader-Support-Warranty/dp/B006T9B6R2/

I used the samsung sd card at first, until it completely died! I lost all my backups etc. Now i use a kingston one. Just 8gb. Im still nervous this one will die too.

that's why you always have a backup on your computer :good: then you never have to worry again. redundancy can be a good thing

This one:

Best of both worlds:
- Samsung NAND
- Great price
I've used it w/both FAT32 and exFAT formats, and performs beautifully.

I have the Ultra, works great in my phone. Have all my music on it.

I have the SanDisk Ultra 64 GB. It's okay, but I had to RMA it with SanDisk a few months ago.

I ran across this article which tested the Sandisk Extreme card on a PC with USB 3.0, and also in a Samsung Galaxy S4 phone.
http://www.legitreviews.com/article/2232/3/
It turns out, the S4 does not take advantage of the increased speed of the Extreme card. Thus, it does not seem worth paying the premium dollars for this card.

Samsung 32gb
I have the 32gb version of the Samsung mini sd card and it works perfectly!

Finally, received mine. Check out the review @ 64GB SanDisk Extreme microSDXC UHS-I Card Review

Sure, Samsung cards have 10 years warranty.

I got a Samsung 32GB plus (UHS-i) in HK ( price 179HKD), the read/write speed from SD tools is about 19.8MB/12.6MB (my S4 is i-9505)

I have the SanDisk Ultra 64 and its been nothing but problems. It will randomly corrupt files on my card, deletes all pics and videos and randomly unmounts. Have no idea what the issue is. The only way to get it to work again is copy what I can to my external hdd. Then reformat the card. it works for a couple weeks, then it does it again.
Unfortunately Amazon had no return policy on this card. I've been thinking of just ordering another or trying a Samsung card. But I thought SanDisk was the company to go with the memory card game. Who knew.
Anybody have issues with the Samsung card??

ive had a 64gb sandisk since they came out and BB did the first 79.99$ sale. No issue's at all. Maybe you guys got a bad batch?
Yeah seems you guys got a bad batch got mine when amazon had "new - open box" for 18 bucks.
I have 3 sandisk 64gb card. One in my phone, galaxy tab 2, and in my galaxy player. I haven't had no problem.
I was one of the lucky folks who grabbed the 64gb from verizon when they had a typo (24.99) / I was fixed in less than 2 hours / I just happened to be snooping around XDA and found the tip (posted about 2 minutes before I got there). / No issues / However, I moved the card to my Nook HD for movies and stuff and have a 32GB in the S3. I will probably take the advice I see here and go with Sammy. Most likely, it's gonna be more compatible. Damn! [Q] Looking for a compatible micro SD card

First off, let me say that I have done a lot of searching, and I'm aware that the Samsung Galaxy S 4 has problems with some micro SD cards. What I couldn't find (and please forgive me if I overlooked something obvious) was a well tested micro SD card that is compatible. Mine stopped working and, as far as I could find, there was no solution.
Does anybody know of a cheap micro SD card that is at least 16GB and less than $20 that works with the S 4?
I use an 8GB PNY or Kensington (can't remember which) micro SD in my sgh-i337 Galaxy S4 with no issues. I also have one of the same micro SD brands above in my At&t Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S2.
I use a Microcenter's generic MicroSD Card in mine and have no problems, it's probably the cheapest card you can get since they are sold without packaging. If you have a microcenter near you they sell them at the cashier, I got a 32gb card class 10 for $14 (16gb for $8) and I have had no problems with it over the last year.
http://tinyurl.com/mfls87d
If you need fast transfer speeds I use a Samsung sdcard for my DSLR which gets around 80mb/s transfer speeds as advertised and they sell a microsd that gets 48mb/s for not much more than the microcenter one. You'll only ever need this if you transfer extremely large files. (I can't say whether or not this works with the s4, but since it's a Samsung brand can only assume)
http://tinyurl.com/nlgdmvs
I use http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DM1BDPK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks everyone.
In my personal experience, I've had the best success with SanDisk brand MicroSD cards. I've been using a 64GB SDXC card (reformatted FAT32) since the day I got my S4 (at launch), and it hasn't faltered on me one bit (meaning 18 months and counting). I've also had success with them in a variety of previous phones. They're also reasonably priced and available just about anywhere that matters.
Got one of these ... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00J2BSW9O?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 ... works fine. Left it formatted as it came as the phone sees it as 64GB but Windows (XP Pro) would only see it as 32GB. If I plug it into a card reader that's a problem but if I browse/copy files via wifi it makes no difference.
So far very quick!
Do sandisk class 10 work ok on i9505,i am thinking of buying 16gb class 10 sandisk, seems like 5.0 is bringing the sd card to normal usage with no need to root...

It's a "Samsung" Micro SD Card, and it's the "Pro" model. And you're here asking if it's good with your $750 high end "SAMSUNG" smart phone? You should probably go ahead and close out your XDA account, and go head over to reddit or something.
If your a smart ass then why does my phone lag when I put in that SD card?
Personally, I've never been a fan of Samsung cards, and prefer SanDisk instead. I've used SanDisk for many many years and have never had a single issue with any of them. I just replaced my 64GB SanDisk Ultra with a 64GB SanDisk Extreme Plus. It isn't a huge jump in performance, but when at Best Buy 2 days after Thanksgiving I noticed they had them on sale for only $35, so I bought a couple. I finally got around to moving everything from my Ultra to an Extreme Plus and put it in my Note 4 tonight. It performs flawlessly!! I'm not saying that the Samsung card isn't good, but I highly recommend getting SanDisk in the future, or even returning the Samsung and buying a SanDisk now. You won't be disappointed.
The pro version are difunately the way to go..... Pricey..... But you get what you pay for.

could be something with the phone since with android 4.4 you really can't have much installed on the microSD besides Music/Videos.
Unless you're rooted and you moved apps over to the SD card.

Samsung 64Gb MicroSDXC problem

Bought this card direct from amazon, so i know it is NOT fake.
I have used SANDISK memory cards with my phones and DSLR cameras for years without a single problem, but this Samsung microsdxc is my very first samsung memory card and I am really pissed.
From day 1, I noticed when I take photos, no matter what settings I use on my Note 4, sometimes the pictures cannot be accessed. Sometimes I can see the icons when trying to view the pics, but when I click on it, a black picture appears. I ignored it because I thought it was just a glitch on my phone's newly installed 5.0.1.
Then it happened again and again, so I reformatted the card but the problem persisted. I changed the sard with a SANDISK micro sd and the problem went away. So I am sure the samsung card is the problem.
I just spoke to Samsung tonight and I was told that their card (MB-MP64DA/AM) Samsung 64GB EVO Class 10 Micro SDXC up to 48MB/s with Adapter is not compatible with my Note 4. I need to use Micro SDHC ?
I tried to explain that it should be compatible, but the person on the phone was not really listening.
AM I right that this microsdXC is compatible, or am I wrong?
=============
Edit:
I just realized, this is a question and it is in the wrong forum, can a mod please kindly move it.. thanks

Thanks, I will try to kill this memory card then and invoke warranty. Samsung is such a pain in the backside. They told me the NOte 4 is only compatible with microSDHC, but HC only goes up to 16gb I think, and if I want to go higher GB, it means I need to use XC card.

You can quote the Samsung's CEO speech in the IFA 2014 that clearly stated :
Note 4 supported up to 64GB of microSD (128GB is relatively new back then & it is also supported)

My MicroSDXC Card Appears to be Incompatible with the Samsung Note 4

I bought a used Note 4 to replace my aging Galaxy S4. I have a 128GB PNY MicroSDXC I used with my S4 and I had no issues. My mother has a Note 4 as well, but it was purchased brand new. Both my used Note 4 and my mother's Note 4 does not recognize the 128GB PNY MicroSDXC card, but my computer and my old S4 recognizes the PNY card perfectly fine.
Is there something incompatible about the PNY microSD cards? I searched online and I cannot find anything on this issue.
This problem is a beyond me because I thought SD cards were universal.

I suspected that too so I tried formatting my microSD. I tried both exFAT and NTFS via Windows 10 explorer formatter, and they still don't work on the Note 4. MicroSD card works perfectly fine with exFAT on the Galaxy S4, but for whatever reason none of the two Note 4s I have with me will recognize the 128GB micro SD card is there. My 32GB Sandisk and 64GB Samsung work fine on all the phones I have.
Just stuck a SanDisk 200gb micro sdxc into my wife's phone the system partition takes up 17 freaking gbs
That is strange as your device should support upto 200+GB microSDCards.
It does.... the system counts the gb size as 1024mbs. the sd card manufacturers count a gb as 1000mbs... so you dont really get all the storage you think you're getting
Upon reading Amazon Reviews, it seems like the SD Card is just low quality. Searching "Note 4" on the PNY 128GB microSD card suggests the SD card has incompatibility problems with the Note 4. I don't know why...

What about trying FAT32? I know it's not ideal but at least then you've tried them all and know there's no way to get them to play nicely together.

I have a tmo note 4 that had the same problem.
I got a 128gb pny from amazon, put in the phone and it would work for a while.
Then it said it was removed then corrupted.
I formatted it on my pc, didn't work.
Put it in a tab a reformatted it now it works ok.
In my phone sometimes google play music can't read but if i do a restart it eorks ok.
The replacement that amazon sent did the same thing so i reformatted it and it works fine in my s2 tablet.
They is a download for your pc to reformat corrupt and none readable sd cards...sorry don't remember the name.
I haven't had the best luck with PNY personally. You could try the Ubuntu Linux boot cd or thumb drive and use their utility. It was always the best for me with formating drives and repairs. If that fails send it back and go with SanDisk. Again... Just my opinion and previous experience. Good luck!
