[Q] How can I sync my downloaded music with my PC? - General Questions and Answers

I've downloaded some music in my Omnia W (i8350) and I want them into my PC. I found no way to do that, Windows Phone isolated storage seems a big problem to user. IE doesn't support download any file is the another one. Is there any way?

Have you tried putting all your music on dropbox or copy? See my description if you don't have an account yet
Edit: you can always save the files offline if you want to. Dropbox and copy also support photo sync!
Last thing I rrecommend is a vpn service like teamviewer or a private vpn

not sure as I am android user...
but my friend transfer the stuffs between pc and windows phone using zune...

We can only sync music from pc to phone. There's no way to sync downloaded file due to windows phone's isolated storage limitation. Even we can't sync a pdf file.

3 Questions about WP7

i got 3 questions about wp7:
1) is there any way to add mp3s, docs, and videos without syncing into zune?
2) is is possible to change the file system in wp7 to make it like wp 6.5 where you can add files wherever you wanted?
3) will the next wp7 update (mango) change the file system so that we can add files without zune, like in wp 6.5?

You can put documents on the phone without Zune. Email. But, no, not really.

in that vein, you could also add files to your skydrive and access them on the phone without a zune sync, but I don't think that is what the OP has in mind.

I don't think you can save them on your phone that way though? Whereas you can save the documents from an email.
But, yes, I was just being a bit of an arse lol.

This is definitely not true for Music and Videos. You may be able to play them, but they won't be added to your library (based on the currently announced features). Not sure about the skydrive support for office, haven't paid much attention.
To the OP... I been a windows mobile man since year dot and initially didn't like the idea of zune sync (al a itunes) but it does have advantages for me... Like always having a full-set backup of all my music and vids on the PC...
Now, I'm completely sold on WP7 and realise some of its quirkiness is necessary to have such a slick OS...
I sync contacts and calendar via gmail which is even easier than outlook and activesync...
For me these lacks were one of the reasons why I left WP7 as my main OS.
Especially when travelling alot to different countires. Skydrive is nice but cannot be taken as the main sync option. AFAIK you can't store media from SkyDrive, just docs.
If MS would be more sensible to collect all their services together it would be awesome, but we'll have a mess instead. To sync all the necessary files to your device you will always need Zune & Skydrive together what is quite silly.
Anyway you all talk about something what WILL happen. For another half a year you have no way to put some files on your phone other than emailing it to yourself.

I have all my documents and pictures on SkyDrive. Sharepoint keeps my office files and DropBox most of my personal ones. Music syncs from Zune thru my laptop and I have yet to feel the need to use a file manager/USB connection.
I have adapted and love the new concept.

[Q] App to Browse Home Network Folders & Download Files to Phone?

I am looking for an app that will let me use my Lumia to connect to the shared folders on my home PC while connected to my home network via WiFi. I want to be able to connect as my PC user account, browse to a UNC path (e.g. "\\DESKTOP-PC\Pictures"), and download/transfer files from the PC to my phone... all without the need for any server software or additional setup on the PC.
I see the "ShareFolder" app in the marketplace (for $2.50), but there is no trial, and few reviews. Does anyone know if that app will suit my needs (one review makes me believe it won't, but the description indicates it will)? Or can anyone recommend a solution?
Thanks very much for reading!
Depends on how much space you need to have for "sharing" and what you need to do. The ShareFolder app can let you look at pictures, but you cant open any other file types on your phone. Not very useful.
I highly recommend using SkyDrive, as now they have a Desktop Folder, just like Dropbox, and then your computer doesn't even need to be on. But space is not huge....
The SkyDrive app is free but there are other apps for SkyDrive
Or, if you don't want to bother with a SkyDrive folder on your desktop, you can check out Allway Sync - it runs off your computer and automatically syncs your specified folders just about anywhere, including SkyDrive. I have the Pro Version and LOVE it!
Otherwise, you have to pay for a "big" cloud space or run a server off your puter, as far as I know.

WP7 Skydrive - no app to access the computer

As you all know, skydrive and WP7 sync pretty well together. Everyone is happy with their 25gb storage (or 7 if ur new).
But when u go to skydrive website, u can also view the computers that are currently turned on and sharing files online (its on the bottom left corner)
it comes online when u install the skydrive client on your computer.
So my question is... how come we dont have an app that can access that yet? The whole computer folder is ONLINE, you can access any files within as long as the computer is switched on, ie. acting as a server.
Imagine instead of 25gb, u have access to ur entire computer drive and u can stream music and video off that like the skyrdrive app. We wouldnt be restricted to 25gb, (im sure a lot of peoples music and video folders are in terrabytes) and we can connect where ever we go if we have 3G connection.
Maybe its because the API hasnt been released yet but .... i think this is something MS or developers should be working towards.
That's a really good idea! Until someone develops such an app, we can access skydrive website from WP and click on "PC site" and voila! You can access your PC! And the speed of the PC site is also fast
Yea but i want to stream music / video with an app it would be soooo convenient
I have a desktop that i leave it on as server anyways, so might as well.
this is the function in skydrive
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/skydrive/fetch-files-pc-ui
I am sorry, what?
I am not sure I am getting your point.
-there's a windows program that allows you to sync a local folder to skydrive - check
-there's a WP7 app that allows you to access files on your skydrive - check
-as far as I am aware, you can also stream music and movies off skydrive to your WP7 (I haven't checked or tried yet, though It works with both movies and music).
So, what is it you're looking for?
EDIT: If you're looking for a sync option from skydrive to your phone, how would that work? Your skydrive is 25Gb, WP7 phones have 16Gb max. So you can't simply sync your skydrive to your phone...
EDIT2: I think I figured out what you're looking for. You're looking for a way to access not your skydrive, but your computer from your phone. The feature you describe is a feature of the skydrive website that allows you to remotely upload files from your (running) computer. I vaguely recall seeing apps on the marketplace that would allow such a thing. I'll have to check, though...
EDIT3: A possible sollution would be to set up a TVersity Server on your PC. You can then stream music and video to appropriate clients, for WP7 there's an app called MyMedia WP7.
Note that you'll need to know how to access your TVersity Server from outside your LAN (How to make your PC connectable from the internet). Not the easiest sollution, but then again, the problem you have is very... specific, it's not a general use case.
EDIT4 (I am really good at this aren't I? ): possible alternatives would be the app called "Qloud Media" and Plex, each app requires it's own server software, though.
yep i have tried all those apps u said. I also found another one called Tonido, works ok well but im hoping for some developer to utilize the skydrives full potential (ie. the fetch file) instead of installing another desktop program to allow connection
tversity current dont offer free accounts
I have been playing around with the SkyDrive API the last few months, and I don't believe there is an official "Microsoft-blessed" way to do this via the API.

Sync S-Notes to Google Drive Issue

I have been testing the sync feature to google docs/drive of all my notes. What I noticed is after I sync the first time I try adding another word to note and sync again, it deletes what I just wrote. Please advise if you guys are experiencing this issue or advise if Im doing it wrong.
Here is what I do:
1. Create note and write something
2. Save note
3. Go back to S-Note screen where all notes are and select Sync
4. Choose the new note and click sync
So far so good. I see it in Google drive.
5. Open note back up and write a word or something
6. Repeated steps 3-4
This time, my new change has been deleted and now shows what I initially committed. ??
Hey guys, quick update. Guess Sync only works one way on S-Note which is why I had issue.
I ended up creating a dropbox account and download app called dropsync. Dropsync allows me to do 2 way sync and does so automatically. Now when I add notes, create new ones, or delete one, dropsync will ensure to sync with drop box.
Pretty legit I must say.
I use an app called Folder SYnc and it will do two way sync. Use with several Cloud accounts. There is a free version and it is a great app.
What file format are you saving them in? Just curius if you are using thr .snb format and if you are able to view those files on a pc.

Same question here, I am asking me if it is possible to edit .snb file on Google Doc or with a Windows app. Otherwise, the sync is only a backup solution, but no more...
Im syncing them as .snb so you can just consider it a backup. At the moment, I dont think there is a PC application that will allow you to modify the files. Im hoping Samsung will make their kies software have access to open .snb files from PC.

I tried the same and it works
However I noticed one issue,
If I edit a note that has been createdin the other device the whole thing goes wrong
the page and everything is still there but I loose the part of the note created in the original device.
so it looks like viewing is fine but you can not edit the same note across different devices

This is the BEST solution. Works very well. The syncing which comes with S-Notes should be avoided at all costs. Evernote and Google Docs are very incomplete and difficult to use. Dropbox rules.
A similar solution for your PC.
The only problem in using Dropbox with your PC is that the files you want synced must be in your Dropbox folder.
Well, actually no. You can create "symbolic links" from any folder on your PC to your Dropbox Folder so that Dropbox will sync them. This can be VERY convenient if you have large document or database files you wish to keep synced but don't wish the originals to live in your Dropbox Folder.
This is VERY easy to achieve with something called "Link Shell Extension" found here:
http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/hardlinkshellext.html#contact
Just follow the directions. It talks about doing "hard links" but I have found doing "symbolic links" works just fine. Once installed, you simply right click the folder you wish to link to drop box and select it as your link folder. Then you right click your Dropbox Folder and select that as the destination. Then if you open your Dropbox Folder it will appear that the folder you have just linked is there, but it's not, it is in its original location but now Dropbox will sync it.
Cool, right?
P.S., make sure you get your free 50 GB of space from Dropbox first

Do not be so critical, for a simple backup, it is far easier to use the sync included in S-Notes than the Dropbox solution...
IF we could use the .snb with a software on a PC, perhaps it could be interesting to use Dropbox, but really, without any possibility to edit, don't complicate your life, use simply the backup solution included in S-Notes

With all due respect you are wrong.
The built in syncing does not properly account for upstream and downstream updating.
For instance, if you use the built in sync feature you can literally never delete any notes locally as the sync action will simply restore the ones you have deleted. Try deleting a note that has been previosly synced using the stock feature then run a sync again. I reappears.
Drop Sync works properly. If you have deleted a file locally it will not replace that file when you do your sync and the deleted file will be removed from your Dropbox account as well.
As such your Dropbox becomes a mirror image of your device. This is how syncing as opposed to just backing up is supposed to work. You can also control this behavior even further in options if you like. In addition you can command Drop Sync to sync automatically in the background at regular intervals.

No Solution: Syncing / Editing and then Syncing S-Note to Google Drive?
Well, I described my issue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203479
Background: My company is a Google Apps for Business enterprise user and I need handrwritten to text notes for a lot of meetings. The ideal solution is using Google Keep, or S-Notes with S-Pen and then sync to Google Drive.
Situation: 1) When I use Google Keep everything works fine until I open the document in the Drive and it is a Polaris, or Kings Office file format, not Google Docs - and not editable; 2) When I use S-Note, everything works until I open, edit and try to re-save the file within Google Drive. I get an error message: "failed to save document" and then I get "Saved /data/data/com.google.android.apps.docs/cache2/......"
The Solution: I can write directly into a Googls Doc using the S-Pen but prefer using Google Keep, or S-Notes.
From reading this thread it appears no one is successfully using Google Keep with S-Pen, or S-Note to save / sync documents to Google Drive; edit those documents; and then re-save, or re-sync to Google Drive?
Thank you!
It does appear that NoteSync is the best approach to have notes SYNC with Google Drive

Out of all the services I like SugarSync the best. I can sync my S-Note folder and it will automatically sync new notes and keep them up to date if I make revisons so it is a set and forget back up solution. If you want to try it use the referral link below and we can both get an extra 500mb.

Where is the "local folder" for snote?
to sync s-note
I have tried and tried many apps and methods to sync s-note across devices. ONLY THING i have found to work.
I use a app called DS Cloud for my Synology server.
I Created a folder on the server called snote
I created a folder in my snote directory on my note 10.1 and note 2 phone.
Reason for this is IS if you sync from the default location you will sync templets There are different template Version of S- NOTE ON Each device.
So once i did the above i Told ds cloud on the desk station to share that folder .
on each device i have to sync the folder i called my notes inside the s- note folder. That way is does NOT Sync the templets and app information.
To get them to google drive. From my Disk station i sync the snote foilder with my google drive account.. This is just for a Just incase my home internet is down.
The issue your having with notes being over written between devices i think is because different s note versions..
Hope this help anyone. its only way i can get it to work properly for me.
OHH I LOVE Synology disk station.

A way to sync folders between phone, tablet and PC?

Why hallo thare!
As you see in my signature I have a Gnote and a Asus Infinity and my home PC is a MSI GX740 with Windows 7. My idea is that I want to sync some folders so they look all the same on all three devices. The method would be when they all are connected to my home Wifi they shall sync a certain folder. Another neat thing is that everytime I get home and connect my phone or tablet to my Wifi it shall upload the DCIM/Camera dir to my PC so I dont have to mess with that
Is this possible?

For sure it's possible, but why not give a chance to e.g. a dropbox. It gives all functionality you ask for, with uploading camera pics directly to dropbox folder on my lap, all folders in dropbox synced in all my units

I was looking for something similar and decide to use box.net as backup/sync tool.. Whenever I do something in one of the folders stored in box, it automatically syncs to the cloud. Then when I use the box app in my tablet, phone or desktop, all the files are synced.
I read somewhere about auto upload photos, but not sure if it was with box.net or dropbox.
hope this helps

Photo sync (camera upload) from a phone works in dropbox, and you have to choose an option whether any data connection or wifi only.
Try Sugarsync.

Faced with a similar need, I worked with a family member in another city to set up a private "Cloud" using FTP. I back my files up to his system, he backs his up to mine.
The PC apps are Filezilla server and client for the FTP functions. SyncBack is an automated backup/sync program. Those take care of PC to PC transfers and syncs.
The android app I chose is FolderSync.
Try GammaSync
For PC-to-Android folder synchronization (only one-way at the moment) I developed a free app which does not require external cloud storage services (like Dropbox or SugarSync). Check GammaSync. It's available on the Play Store. Maybe you'll find it useful
