I believe that the exploit ShiftRR uses was patched a while ago.

When I used your tool, after I went through all the steps, I was still on android 2.3.4 without root. Is there something I'm doing wrong. I'm new to HTC devices so could my a noober guide? Thanks

Re-read everything and take your time. One small mistake can throw the whole process off.

Okay so this time I used shift rootility and got a bootloop, which was a good sign. But when I got to the last step where you boot into the bootloader, the pg06img.zip didn't load. Just said check...[pg06img.zip] and then went back to hboot. I really am stuck
Sent from my PG06100 using xda app-developers app

I don't know if this is the problem or not but I have an sd card that reads so slowly that when I try to change recoveries the bootloader won't pick up the pg06img.zip file. All I have to do when that happens is use a better quality sd card and then it's fine. Hopefully it's as easy as that.

First thing is to make sure the file is named correctly. It should be " PG06IMG.zip " . The other thing is to make sure that your SD Card formatted to FAT32 .

Yeah did so today, and bought a new sdcard, same thing.. but this time it didnt bootloop. Tried 5 times, everything is named correctly and all. I think ima just sell it on ebay because i think its unrootable and its hell of makin me mad. Ive tried all the guides and everything, repeatedly. But i have one question, did it have to run android 2.2 in the past cause my phone was made after the 2.3.4 update?, it says VTO 09/10/12

In order to use the Root Exploit, you must be on 2.2 . I wouldn't give up just yet. I've had Shifts in the past that were difficult to Root. Once done it is worth it. Plus you can then run pretty much whatever you want. There are a lot of Roms for it .

I realize this is an ancient subject & thread, but we have just gotten a very nice EVO Shift that works perfectly.
It was never rooted though and was upgraded.
I have managed to find most of the tools to downgrade & root it, but not the ShiftRR tool.
The site it was originally on is now a fake site that tries to install malware on visitors' PCs.
Does anyone here still have this tool to share privately so that I can proceed ??
Thanks.

Evo Shift root

I just have a quick question thats holding me back from rooting my shift. IF i do it will it erase my flash that i have for cricket?
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you
I believe if your flashed to Cricket your already rooted. Easy way to check, is to power down the phone. Hold Down the Volume Button, then press the Power Button. You should boot into a white screen. At the Top it will either say S-On ( NOT Rooted ), or S-Off ( Rooted ) .
it says speedy xe ship s-on
If it says S-On then your Not Rooted. From the reading I've been doing, it leads me to believe that rooting it should not affect that your flashed to a different carrier. But I would still do more research on the subject before jumping in.

You put the zip anywhere on your SD card. Don't unzip it. Then you flash the zip through recovery. Partitioning your card is not a must unless you plan to download a lot of apps and are low on internal memory

I firgured it out i started off with cm7 since that was alwuays my favorite. It was ok. Then i used 2 different miui s and i didnt like the fact that i couldnt remove home screen icons. So now im using supreme sense and absolutely love it but.thank you guys for the help i thanked you guys as many times as i could. Idk if theres a limit

Ok, I've been trying to replace my splash screen with something dope but when I try to flash PGO6IMG.zip I'm not getting the update option from bootloader, wtfff! Somebody helllpppp!
Backup your SD Card to your PC. Then reformat your SD Card. Transfer your stuff back onto your SD Card. Then flash the PGO6IMG.zip in Bootloader.
Thank u! If I reformat do I have to repartition as well?

Yes you have to repartition also.
Thank u for da info, but it did not work. Is there anyway to replace the file via root explorer? I just don't know where the file is.

Does anyone have a working mirror for the RUU for 2.2.2?

I've been scouring the internet for a working or non filefactory link of the RUU for a while now with absolutely no luck. I keep finding broken multiupload links or the aforementioned filefactory, which apparently never has an open download slot.
I'm unfortunate in having no ability to get my SDCard to recognize PG06IMG.zip while I attempt to root. So please if you have it, save me from my torture.

Phone won't boot after rom flash?

I got my one x last week and rooted it a few days ago via the all in one method found here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952426 ) and everything worked including superuser. After a few days of use I decided to try the icecoldjelly aokp rom found here ( http://onexroot.com/one-x-roms/icecoldjelly-aokp-rom-for-rooted-one-x-android-4-1-2/ ). The rom flash said successfull and so did the gaps zip. Then when I pressed reboot the phone never cam back on. I tired living it charging overnight in case it lost charge (even though it showed almost full before I flashed). I'm not sure but I think I may be out luck?
Is there anything I can try to get this thing to boot up?

You flashed an international ROM, you now probably have an expensive paperweight. Sorry, please read the stickies next time
You may be able to dd a partition 4 to your phone if someone dumps one for you, and if you know how/someone is willing to help.
First go try this http://unlimited.io./qhsusbdload.htm

Right now we are trying to time it right and get his phone into emmc mode.. one that's done, I think we should have this problem fixed.
Windows recognizes it as QHSUSB_DLOAD (so its still alive), but when he holds down power, no lights flash, making this hard to time

Is your mmcblk0p4 from 2.20? I don't know if that would matter.
I think it's because we are using Ubuntu 12.10 and not 12.04, will report back eventually..
12.10 is not happening, if it's successful on 12.04, even just the unbrick method, I'm not concerned about the downgrade anymore, this could be good news for our little international rom lovers
Will try 12.04 sometime today

sorry i was out...no partition is from 1.85 or maybe even 1.73 don't remember,
any luck ?? have you tried to talk to beaups or 18th.abn ?
Unbricking has been a real pain in the butt using ubuntu, we found it to much easier and more successful using tinycore from a bootable USB. I don't know why, but it's been proven on several devices so try that. Also, p4 holds the device imei and cid, when it gets corrupted in may be causing the soft brick because p12 is dependent on its information since it also displays the device imei and phone info, so do p12, make sure your using a signed image and do p4, which can be any p4, the imei will just have to be repaired afterward. It will spring to life, I promise you

@crappy, nah we had to stop for the night cause I had to get up early and get senior pictures taken.
I had him install Ubuntu 12.04 rather than use a LiveCD, so we'll try it again later today.
@18th
We got to the point where it starts writing p4, but hangs and continuously sends the Reset, I posted in the thread over at the evo LTE forum asking about it, holding the power button for 30+ seconds as suggested prints an error cannot reset device
I am using mmcblk0p4 from crappy, and your hboot from dropbox.
On the hox, you only need to hold down the power button for about 10-12 seconds so 30 may be too long and sending a time out to the emmc recover tool

[Q] Can't unlock bootloader on htcdev.com

I've reviewe dthreads with similar complaints, but...
1) I'm trying to root from linux
2) none of the threads match my conditions
Problem:
I can't get bootloader unlocked from htcdev.com. The website is super slow, and times out my login every 5 minutes. Grrrrr! When I run "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" it
1) returns a different blob every iteration
2) fails with:
Error Code: 173
Error Reason: Check rule failed with exception.
I gotta get past this before I can move on. I've spent hours preparing to do this, i.e. watching vids, reading instructions, etc, and I can't get past step #1. Grrrr!
Any help?
Thanks

"Indirect methods"? I'm not aware of them. Any links? Also, by "manual method", I presume you intend the one I've been following, as opposed to to your "1-Click Shift ROOTility"? I don't mind the manual method, as I've studied them for some time, and I'm familiar with the command interface. I'd like to proceed on Linux, especially if I can help clear up some issues along the way. But it sounds like most folks root from Windows?
I read alot of people having the same problem (today), its probably the site (HTCDev) itself.
I've been trying all day to unlock my (newly repaired) HTC One X without any success.
Hope it gets sorted soon.:fingers-crossed:
