[Q] Droid X2 W/ Eclipse 2.3 - flip/flop Problem - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
New member to this forum having a problem as the title to this thread states. I searched around the forum some and the only threads that I found were in areas I would not be able to post & reply to just yet with my not having at least 10 posts total. First I will give some background and then lead to the problem I am having so as to provide as much info as possible that could help bring about the solution.
The background is that a little over a week ago I received a purchased overstock Motorola Droid X2. I wanted to ( and did ) go on a Page Plus monthly plan and, after some research, the Motorola Droid X2 seemed one of the best to use on Page Plus given the current limitation of no 4g phones permitted with that carrier.
I am generally not shy of trying things with devices to make them better and more to my liking. But my practice of this has mostly been with ios devices such as the ipod touch. I have had a Google Nexus 7 for several months now which was my first android device before now getting the Droid X2 smartphone.
Now for the more technical stuff, so pardon any wording I may get wrong as I am relatively new to learning the Android side of utilizing the tools created by great minds to bring about the best Android device experience :
Back to the Droid x2...... a couple days after getting it I decoded I wanted to root it. I had previously read about doing such things on Android devices after getting the Nexus 7 but figured I would leave that device as is for a while since it came with a latest Android version. So within a couple days of getting the Droid X2 I rooted it via my computer using a file called DX2Batchroot 2013.exe that was uploaded by someone known as SD Shadow. The root process for me went, seemingly, just fine with that file and method.
It was just after rooting the device that I was then looking to change up the recovery on the Droid X2. I thought perhaps to try and install the Clockworkmod recovery on this smartphone. I did some researching ( and as I see it now, likely not enough researching )...... and went with downloading Rom Manager from the Google Play market along with both the Droid X and Droid 2 recovery bootstrap apps also purchased from the Google Play market...... as the developer of Rom Manager states to get and use such recovery bootstrap apps with it. Neither of those recovery bootstrap apps made it to where I could use Rom Manager to install a clockwork mod recovery on my Droid X2. So I then purchased the premium version of Rom manager thinking that would do the trick to get clockwork mod recover on this smartphone. Well...... it didn't. I then did more researching on the Net and found that, apparently, Rom Manager does not work with the Droid X2 even with the recovery addons or in premium version. Some dollars lost now for apps I can't use with my smartphone and lesson learned.
It was then that I found and installed what would be a properly working bootstrap app that would change up the recovery on my Droid X2 and allow me to enter it. That file I downloaded, and have since deleted, I believe was named " MOTODX2 Bootstrap Signed.rar. " Now having a changed recovery I could get to ( provided I have the phone plugged in with an outlet charger ) the next day I started researching on what custom made roms were available for my phone. Since the Android version on my Droid X2 is 2.3.5 with a system version of 1.3.418...... it seemed the best custom Rom available for my smartphone at this time ( and without first having to try and get my smartphone on Android version 2.34 or earlier ) would be Eclipse 2.3.
From the start of getting this Droid X2 a little over a week ago I had been frustrated with the SD setup by where it seems the internal storage is partitioned in a 2 GB segment and a 4.35 GB segment ( the later being referred to as the media area within the applications area of settings. ) The 8 GB SD card I have inserted into my phone next to the battery under the back cover is nowhere to be found as present anywhere in any setting that I could find. It was after purchasing Rom Toolbox Pro from the Google Play market that I seen this smartphone has things listed in the directory as " sdcard " and " sdcard-ext. " The " sdcard-ext " being my inserted 8 GB SD card nowhere to be found in any phone setting of this smartphone.
So, when reading a post from the developer of the Eclipse 2.3 rom state that a SD card flip/flop ' feature would be included with this rom, I decided to download it and have it installed through the changed recovery that is on my Droid X2. So, with this phone plugged in to an outlet charger, I entered the changed recovery and proceeded to format / delete the data, then cleared the cache, then went into advanced to clear the dalvik cache. I then chose the recovery option to install Eclipse 2.3 rom from SD card. The install of Eclipse 2.3 appeared to go smoothly. once the phone was fully rebooted I looked around to get a feel for what things were changed from stock.
A part of that included seeing, within " settings / applications / manage applications " that the third panel now shows " On SD card " instead of the stock media area. I also see that this " On SD card " shows a total storage available as 7.59 GB meaning it represents the SD card I have inserted in my Droid X2. I also took a look at " settings / storage " which does show a heading " Internal storage " as being the 7.59 GB size of my inserted SD card and heading " SD card " as being the 4.35 GB size of the factory partitioned area. So I thought Great I will get apps of mine from the Google Play and Amazon markets finally on the larger 8 GB inserted SD card.
So I went back to " settings / applications / Manage applications / On SD card " on my Droid X2 and proceeded to click on apps I already had downloaded and installed on this smartphone choosing the option to " Move to SD card " with each one. It was after doing this with some of the larger sized apps on my Droid X2 that I backed out to the main " Manage applications / On SD card " window only to see that the left free size of my inserted SD card still showing the maximum of 7.59GB ...... Despite having just selected " Move to SD card " some of the larger sized apps on my smartphone. To check further on this I started Rom Toolbox Pro and went into the ' Root Browser ' section and then found that these apps were being placed into " sdcard-ext " within a folder named " .android secure. "
The problem is that within the directory the sdcard-ext is now actually the 4.35 GB of factory partitioned storage with my Droid X2 since I now have the Eclipse 2.3 rom installed that includes the flip/flop feature. So despite selecting to move apps to sd card which would now be my 8 GB inserted card this Droid X2 is finding its way to just move them to the 4.35 GB of factory partitioned space even though it shows as being named sdcard-ext. Essentially it seems the names of and total GB sizes of the factory partitioned storage and my inserted SD card changed ( flip/flopped ) but the phone is still going about getting newly installed and moved apps still on that 4.35 GB of factory partitioned storage space and not on my inserted 8GB ( Transcend brand ) SD card.
So that is the problem I am having. I want to install new apps and get already installed apps to my 8 GB inserted SD card. I thought installing the Eclipse 2.3 rom that has the flip/flop feature would be the answer. So what am I doing wrong ? Is there something else I should have done / installed in this process I described from start to finish to get apps to my inserted SD card ? What am I doing wrong ?
Also of note would be that within the main window of the Rom Toolbox app there is a tab named " Configure Apps2SD " with the options to select " Auto " , " Internal " , or " SD card. " I currently have it selected to " Auto. " Maybe I will try " Internal " ( with a smartphone reboot ) and if that does not work try the " SD card " option ( with a smartphone reboot ) next within the Configure Apps2SD section of Rom Toolbox Pro.
Any help on this in finding the solution to this problem I am having will be greatly appreciated. I know this is a long reading...... But I wanted to provide as many details of what I have done with my Droid X2 up to the point of still experiencing this problem I thought would be resolved after having installed the Eclipse 2.3 rom. ( Also should the developer of the Eclipse 2.3 rom read this...... In no way am I trying to cast blame on you or the originator of the flip/flop feature. I know it must be me that has done or am still doing something wrong. ) Just Ggrrrr that I still can't get my apps on my Droid X2 to my inserted SD card.

Wow...... had hoped there would have been a few replies to this thread in respect to the issue / problem I am having ...... at least before seeing it near the bottom of he 2nd page of Q&A. Maybe it is the long ars post that scared people away before even getting to the root of my problem / question.
Well, anyway, since my first post in this thread, I did some more researching and may have found some answers...... even if they don't solve the problem I am experiencing. From what I've latest read, it seems the flip/flop feature may " just " rename what was factory stock SD ( internal media area storage of the Droid X2 ) to Sdcard-ext...... and rename any inserted SD card to sdcard. With this feature in the Eclipse rom, it does allow showing what is used & free space on an inserted SD card from within " settings / applications / manage applications " of the Droid X2 ...... but the flip/flop feature does not appear to allow installing and / or moving of already installed apps to an inserted SD card.
At best it seems as though just app data ( and maybe cache ) get placed on the inserted SD card ...... but the actual app itself still gets placed onto internal storage. So if I have a 50 MB app with 2 MB of data and cache ...... the 50 MB app can only be installed to the 4.35 GB of internal storage of the Droid X2 while the much smaller 2 MB of data and cache for such an app will get on my 8 GB inserted SD card...... even with the flip/flop feature of the Eclipse rom. That is unless I am missing something.
A shorter post this time ( I think ) to end with a straight forward question of ...... is there any way at all to have an app ( not just the data & cache of an app ) ...... to have an app itself be installed to and / or moved to an inserted SD card of a Motorola Droid X2 ?

The Infuse's internal is partitioned in 2. The first half is seen as full on internal, the second half is considered to be an sd card, an internal sd card. And no, there is no way to format it.

what do you mean format? i mean you can format it by factory resettign the phone through settings but that formats the data partition as well and loses all your data. you may be able to format it in windows but none of this will change the size of anything. you cant change the partition tables, well technically you can but don't you will brick your phone! and sinse 2gb is on a different device all together you cant change that at all either.
you seem a bit confused on how this all works. the 1.77 or 2 gb is phone storage, it is used for apps, contacts, message storage, phone related stuff. the 13.1 or 14 is sd storage built into the phone, the aditional 2 is external sd storage (it's under the sim card, remove the battery to get to it. you can expand it up to 32 +the 14 built into the phone). the numbers below advertiesed are just different ways of measuring gigabytes. the definition of giga is 1billion but in conputing they use powers of 2 tradidionally so killo isn't 1000 it's 1024 mega isn't 1million its 1,048,576. mega and kilo pretty much aloways are interperated that way in computing. giga/tera however sometimes use there literal meanings 1billion/1trillion and sometimes mean 1000/1,000,000 megabytes and might also mean 1024/1,048,576 megabytes which would be 1,073,741,824-bytes for gigabytes, if you look at packaging of new hard drives there is often a disclaimer on the method they are using to advertise the capacity. i dont remember which way windows reads gbs but this is one reason hard drives never report the same space as advertised and why you see 13.1 instead of 14 and part of why you see 1.77 (some of it is used for the /system and other partitions) instead of 2.
And that's why you are one of the best there is DANi...I learn from listening to your thorough answers and explanations...very nice..

that's weird. did you install a whole bunch of app? or things like ringtones ect?
1.77gb is alot for a phone and i never filled up the storage. unless it is the market bug where apps above a certain size never download. if that's the case you need to downgrade the market. if the phone did not come with the new market you can go into settings>applications>all and find the market/vending.apk then you can uninstall updates. if you would like to install a custom rom then gtg465x had a fix for this in a custom market .apk with his roms, and entropy and linux bozo have a kernel fix in their gingerbread kernels so the new market will download apps of any size.
if you infact filled the storage then you can move apps to the sd card in settings>applications>downloaded but keep aftermarket launchers and applications with widgets on the phone storage. the reasaon is that the sd card doesnt mount till after the ui starts and apps on the sd card will disapear from the home screen, if the launcher is on the sd card it will default to the touchwiz launcher. you can also do this in bulk with titanium backup.
Hi
hi yeah it tells me i have 1.7 gb free and i get a message from the mark. i try to download i all the angry birds games at the same time and the first one was able to install fine and then i get that message from the market . i had to move that game to the sd before installing the rest i just installed this ROM MIUI - and when i had the stock ROM i never had this problem - i really like this ROM ... i only have like 5 apps installed and i have moved most of them to the SD - Facebook wont move and A.I Type wont move to the SD the rest are on the Sd -
i read some where on the web where i could go in terminal type a code and have all the apps that i download go there directly to the in.. sd card - im not sure if this is possible that's why im asking @
That no space warning is a bug in Market, go to settings>market and uninstall updates.
Things should download then, search Market fix.
Or just reboot...it will fix it also...done it many times

the newwest miui "should" have a kernel end fix. i mean the aosp kernel was developed by linux bozo and he put out a market fix on the hellraiser kernel but i dont keep up with the aosp roms.
if the kernel isn't part of the latest miui you may want to try the cm7 kernel, it is possible that because jordan elliot is having family things going on that are more important that he hasnt updated the kernel since the fix was released.
anyway it doesnt matter where you put the apps the low space message is an error. it has little to do with the space available.
when you have questions like this it helps on occasion to provide the carrier the phone is for(rogers/att), the rom or kernel you may have installed and if it is stock provide the baseband and maybe even what network you are on if it is not the one that the phone was released for. there may be known issues or differences that affect the answer and it is more productive if you can avoid having questions answered with questions or really broad answers.
Hi thanks for your help man like I said im new to this .. i was getting a msg from the market saying that because I think the market has a 30 mb download limited ... everything is working from know.. next time ill try to read more before I post lol ..

What is a "GS"?
If the "GS" is Android, you can try this way:
Settings | Applications | Manage applications | Downloaded | Move to SD Card

You can't do many with internal storage unless you root your phone. What i know about internal storage is cannot be partitioned.

How to install apps on SD
I did it many time and I think that to fully install apps on SD you need to know its steps:
1. Root phone.
2. Partition your SD card
3. Install app that help move all data app on SD, such as Link2SD, S2E, ...
all that stuff u can find on Google or just in xda forum. they talk 'bout that every day
But I think maybe U did it all but still got unsuccessful. I think 2GB internal storage is big enough to install app and U don't need to try anymore. Just choose what app to keep and what not to keep for your phone. GS III is a smart expensive phone, Is your matter deserve to try? I just have 180MB internal storage (Mini) and do a lot of stuff just to get more 500MB, but I lost 1 SD-Card dear
if you have a locked phone(not rooted) its up to every applications security settings if you can move it to sd or not.
This setting is deprecated on Google Play and new apps will have licensing service , but for now its up to developer choice.
thx all, i have find, i cgange a file sytem vlag if i think and work.
My sd card isnt detected
I was flashed and running with s-off. I was using 4K atom azul for the evo 4g. I wanted to be able to use my FFC but i couldnt figure it out with that rom. and then i decided to upgraded to the one that look like black beans but is made by team dirt. hated the fact i couldnt use my camera so i reverted back. after reverting back i got the 5 vibrations thing and black screen. Now i have my s-on and did the ruu. after several failed attempts my phone suddenly booted back to the 4k atom azul. i was stoked that i knew how to get it back but now i have no way of using the wifi or bluetooth, and plus my sd card is not found by any program says i have it mounted and when i go to settings to unmount it says to insert a sdcard. i have my 32 gb sd card in there. I dont know why my phone is no longer rooted. and i am scared to pull the battery out and try anything because of the simple fact i might not have a phone for another couple days and i about drove myself crazy not having a phone.
a little info:
I had s-off and idk what else... other than using amon ra for recovery image and formatting and reset factory data before installing another rom. it became an addiction to get another rom every week. and now i am stuck in the situation described above.
I have been doing the reboot over and over the past couple days before i got the 5 vibrations fixed back to normal, that the information below is what i remember from trying to recover...
supersonic evt3 ship s-on
hboot-2.10.0001
microp-041f
touch panel-amtel224_16ab
radio-2.15.00.11.19
oct 15 2010, 12:07:00
This above might not be exactly right.
I used a PC36IMG.zip file that i had after reformatting my sd card. it would not run the PC36IMG.zip file that i put on the root and recover my system so i had to do the ruu thing...
It would read something like this below...
Loading...[PC36DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PC36DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PC36IMG.zip]
and it would successfully read the PC36IMG.zip but would not restore and a little scroll bar as it read the file would come up... i used fastboot usb and miraculously i have my 4K atom that i tried to reflash on my evo before it messed up.
I know that i still have s-on but it puzzles me how i have the s-on and running a rooted rom. my hotspot works and so does the GPS and navigation, i just can not connect to my wifi, or boot back into recovery without getting the black screen and 5 vibes of diagnostic so i am kinda stuck. My phone will send text and call out and let me download apps for what little internal memory i have on it; I hate i dont have an sd card to save pictures too, or and sd card to put music on to play in the car...
Thank everyone for your time, I just joined today but I have been a flashing freak for the last year or so once i figured out how to do it. I used unrevoked as my flashing software. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Usually my phone gives me the option to move recently downloaded or updated apps to the sd card...

Help - "Insufficient Storage" Gapps store on some apps

Device - P-3113 tab 2 android 4.1.1 build UECLK7

All worked fine.

SD Card total 4.56gb Avail 2.86gb
In Apps Manager Device memory reads 1.6gb used - 3.0gb free
I can not install some apps from the GApp store "Insufficient storage available"
I can install from amazon. ( Loaded Dolphin browser ) Started ( I think ) after trying to download Google Chrome.... Failed

any ideas? Thanks to everyone in advance.
UPDATE I can install Kunundrum - game app 14mb from GApp store but still not sixaxis controller 147k insufficient storage
This is frustrating when I know I have space. Help Please
Fixed Yeah!
After several methods and hours of reading.. I finally found out what happened. When I purchased my p3113 tab I installed link2sd as I wanted to use my external memory. But after changing the setting to external storage... ( stop me if you have heard this before ) I realized that Samsung Galaxy does not support this function, So.. I deleted the app.
Little did I know that the setting in link2sd were shell commands that set environment variables in the system. so they stayed set to external even after uninstalling the app.
Installed link2sd and found the settings set to external... changed to internal. ( my new swapped external card.. see above ) and everything worked and everything began to install correctly. Hope this helps anyone with similar issues.
Thanks! I haven't had the error on my current fresh rom, but I did get the error on one of the roms I was flashing last week. I also did the same thing with app2sd, before learning it wouldn't work.
If you're hurting for space, backup everything and perform the sdcard/extsd swap, it works great with a fast class 10 card!

[Q] back up goes to internal SD in 4.2.2

Wow - have managed to install my first custom ROM - Cyanogen Mod 10.1 - if the process has taught me one thing - it is how to restore my stock rom from my back up! Anyway after a few false starts I have managed to get it up and running with google apps installed. ROM manager really helped. I have a question though because ROM manager tells me that I can now only back up to a hidden secure folder on the internal SD
Is this google continuing to make the external card useless for anything other than videos etc. I Have just finished setting up Cyanogen Mod as I want it and wanted to back it up before maybe trying another ROM I had asssumed that I would be able to back up any Roms I installed and set up but at this rate I will run out of space on my internal SD card.
I see there is an option to download to your computer (which I have done) - If I copy the back ups to my external SD will I still be able to restore them from there - I am guessing I will have to use recovery to restore the back ups as Download Manager is not going to see them is it?
CWM doesn't seems to support external SD cards on our tab, which I found to be a shame, since I have the 8Gb version of the tab and a single backup can take a lot of space :/

It seems as if it is just ROM Manager - if you boot into recovery then it is still possible to backup to and restore from an external micro SD - where else would you want to put back ups (apart from your PC of course.

[Q] HISENSE HS-U970 Custom rom 4.3

I have a HISENSE HS-U970
Phone look good, but here is the problem out of the 4GB internal storage , there is only 200mb available to install app's , the phone ROM is a mess they have created 3 partition out of the 4GB, and only allow app to be installed on the primary partition which has only 200mb of storage out of the 1GB ,the other partition are reserved for music and photo files. What a way to ruin a phone.....
You cannot move apps to SD card. So severe limitation
I have been scouring the internetfor days for a custom rom which will remove these limitations and allow me to install apps to SD card just like other devices. But i have found none so far
Does someone know a custom rom that i could install to actually enjoy using this phone? i am close to smashing it with a hammer
I am never buying any android Chinese based phone ever..
Appreciate any reply
I remember the days you could ask a questions in this forum and get some answers, these days most posts goes unanswered very sad days.
If your rooted Foldermount would serve you well. A lot of people use Link2sd which I tried but didn't work for me.

Link2sd
i think the best solution for your problem is as follows:
(u should have root to perform these steps)
1.download and install Link2sd from google play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&hl=en)
2.go to the app you want to move to your sd card (u can use the search button)
3.tap "Move to SD card" if that fails and its a system app u can tap actions then select "Convert to user app" then tap "move to sd card"
For CWM and custom ROMs for this device go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588130

i think the best solution for your problem is as follows:
(u should have root to perform these steps)
1.download and install Link2sd from google play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&hl=en)
2.go to the app you want to move to your sd card (u can use the search button)
3.tap "Move to SD card" if that fails and its a system app u can tap actions then select "Convert to user app" then tap "move to sd card"
For CWM and custom ROMs for this device go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588130

Just install an app called Framaroot, and choose one of the options, if one fails, choose the other one.(that's how I rooted my Hisense U970, so it will most probably work for you).
PS: Sorry for the late reply
