Root deletes unlock?? - General Questions and Answers

Okay guys so I bought my phone off of ebay and i would like to install a custom ROM. My phone is unlocked it was originally locked to telus, so im asking, what rom should i use?? And will it get rid of my unlock?? Sorry if its a dumb question, i just dont want to have to pay 50$ to unlock it

wow! $50 is expensive. Rogers only wanted to charge me $7. It's definitely possible; I've seen people claiming to have unlocked it for free using apps. There's also websites that supposedly use your IMEI number to give you an unlock code for relatively cheap.

Well im going to try tomorrow to root i hope i dont mess it up aha, ill make a backup first i suppose thank you

[Q] Extra unlock code?

I purchased an unlock code off eBay and the seller sent me two. I entered the first one and poof- worked like a charm. My question is: can I give the other unlock code to someone on here or are they specific to the IMEI?
Codes are IMEI specific. Your codes won't work on another phone.

Now I see you're the one with the D2g with the bad ESN. You should know you are very lucky if you were able to unlock the phone with code purchased online! Welcome aboard.

Dude, tell me about it. I heard horror stories about people trying to unlock their D2Gs. Glad I got a working unlock code. The phone cost me $10, unlock code cost me $14, and after a couple hours of tinkering, I have a solid backup phone for less than $30. Couldn't be happier.
hi
can u say me bro which website u used to buy the code, please.
sure, it is specific to IMEI. you cannot give it to others.........

SIM unlock

I searched General and didn't find anything other than, "you gotta pay like 30$ and they'll email you the code.'
On my Infuse, there was an unlock within three days of release.
What's the status for us? There's got to be a free software unlock that we can do by now.

I tried to request one thru ATT and they denied me because the s2sr is carrier specific...and I work for them so they might be your best option

I used http://www.cellunlocker.net/ to unlock a Blackberry for a friend the other night, it was eight dollars and the code was emailed to me in 2 minutes. Looks like the I727 is on there too.

man... crazy how little Dev support for this phone. really shocked this hasn't been done by now.
id rather pay money to a Dev to post this for everyone than a website like that.
hi
you can unlock your phone using codes. you can get the codes from Mobileunlocksolutions.com. while unlocking your phone through codes you need only your imei and a foregin sim to get it unlocked.

reading is fundamental...
yeah that's more expensive than the other site and they dont have the SR listed.
the point is...as i said, i'd rather pay a Dev like lost1 did for the Infuse for a program that everyone can use.
Did anyone try the galaxy s unlock app from the market? That app worked for my att s2. I think ill go try out.
Edit: guess that doesn't work. Says I have a busy box problem. When I get home from work I'll try the manual hex way and see what I can get done there.

I tried Cellunlocker.net and they email me back telling me, unable to find code.
I too have contacted at&t and I got the same response, phone locked to network.
I have also tryed the Hex manual way and no luck.
Does anyone had any success unlocking SGH-I727?
Yeah I tried both the unlockers from the market as well as looking for the bml3 file for the hex but apparently it's hidden in a different file as the bml3 doesn't seem to exist on our phone.

Guys, any update on the unlock, XDA-style? I tried several unlock code providers and am still waiting for a code from them. It is painfully delayed. Did any developer start working on some software unlock for Skyrocket? I understand lesser demand on this phone but if we can get some work going on on the unlock front, that had be awesome!
I will be the first one to donate btw! $28 is too much if it is severely delayed.
yeah, i'd love to have my skyrocket unlocked, but still waiting to see who will get it done for us.
Still nothing apparently. this is nuts. i unlocked my Infuse last year the day after i got it...and i got it on launch day!
Mine's unlocked but when I put in *#7465685# it still say Network Lock, Network Subset Lock, SP Lock, CP Lock.
Anyone figured out how to unlock it without having to purchase a code yet?
+1 here, waiting for someone dev figure out a way to get the unlock code XDA style... I had to purchase a code for my SGS 2 off eBay just now to unlock it, but it costs only 99 cents. Not sure why the unlock code for the SkyRocket cost so much, I mean, $23 is the lowest eBay price last check...
I'm convinced that the online sites are run as side projects by network operator or manufacturer device support employees (ie AT&T or Samsung) who can unlock using the IMEI.
I can confirm that the lock code for this phone is located in a completely different location. Also, I am willing to throw a lot of time at this if someone can point me to the furthest progress made or point me to someone who knows what's going on.
I just orderd a t-mobile sim off ebay for $1 and plan on calling att for a unlock code as I've been a good customer forever. I can dump my partitions before and after the unlock code to try and narrow down where it is stored.
just called att and they claim that the skyrocket is exclusive to att and therefor don't need to provide me a unlock code. So much for that.

Do it please..
Screw paying for something that is yours!

no free way, u have to buy unlock code
Alternatively, if you've had it for longer than 6 months and you are in good standing with AT&T, they can provide you an unlock code. You'll have to rattle a few cages and wait while they submit a request for an unlock code. It took some time and patience but they relented and provided me a code which worked perfectly. Good luck!
I am also wondering this... my brother inlaw got one and needs to unlock it... I know there is a way for the infuse that's free... does anyone know if that would work on the sII as well?

You might also have been thinking of a method available on the 1st Galaxy Tab: specifically, changing a value in a specific address in ROM using a hex editor. I did this with mine and it worked perfectly; however, I don't think anyone has found the corresponding address in the Skyrocket yet. But AT&T did provide me the code after submitting a written request for it, so it's worth a try.
I'll see if I can talk to Rogers for them and get the code... otherwise where is the best place to get it if my carrier wont supply it... either way I'm trying to convince him to swap me for my infuse so I get the 727 since he doesn't need the dual core anyway and mine is unlocked and I use the carrier the phone is locked to

[Q] Rooting a phone on contract?

I never had a contract before but I'm thinking about getting an Xperia Z with a 2-year T-Mobile contract, what happens when I root it and flash a custom ROM on it? Will they find out? What happens when they do?
Please let me know
They won't. Except when you send it in for warranty for which you obviously return it to stock so they won't find out.

So there's no difference in the data sent back and forth from which they could find out? And once I unlock the bootloader, can I relock it again or something?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
They break down your door in the middle of the night and cart you off to a secret holding facility for interrogation.
The absolute worst they can do is tell you that you have no warranty cover for your phone but must keep paying the contract regardless.

Nothing will happen. I for one have rooted very single android phone I have owned. If you find something wrong with the software or its not very nice sounding or what ever. Return it to stock and relock the bootloader.
If it won't turn on then don't bother. That happened with my HTC and it went fine.

In Hungary, the T-Mobile doesn't allow that, but the Vodafone does

What do you mean by not allowing, no one allows it but they can only find out when you send your phone to the store ..
Relocking the bootloader would still show as "relocked" status if I'm not mistaken.

I don't know and I don't really care honestly, I have a 2 year contract without any warranty so next year i'll just get the hot phone of 2014 so I won't have to deal with this phone for another year.
Note that now under the DMCA, unlocking your phone, whether it is under contract or not, is illegal. Rooting your phone is now, however, since you need to unlock your phone before you can root it...
