[Q] Modifying apk files, changing icons and name - General Questions and Answers

Can anyone save me the misery and modify this two apk files so that when I install them they have these icon? I've watched every tutorial and there's always something missing or wrong. Zplayer ( you should try it) -- zcircle-.png icon and 'Music" name, QuickPic -- gallery icon and "Gallery" name. I need to get this of my mind. Thanks

Editing widgets/.apk files?

Hey guys. Just a quick question. I've successfully edited the images inside a few .apk files to match my theme and then installed them on my phone without any problems.
However, now I'm trying to edit some .apk files that are apps with widgets. Specifically, Advanced Task Manager and N1 Torch. I wanted to edit the widgets' image files so that the "focused" and "pressed" highlights of these apps' respective widgets are no longer Android's hideous orange color. But when I make changes to the widgets and install my modded .apk files, the widgets are broken. They won't load. Any advice? Thanks.

Never mind. Got it all settled. Fixed my widgets. Thanks.

Changing Default Application Icons

I am trying to figure out how to change the icons for phone, messages, twitter, and browser into words. How would I go about doing this? I'm sure it's possible, I'm just new to android.

There is an app in the marketplace called NinjaMorph that will do it from the phone. Alternatively, you'd have to pull a copy of the app from your phone to your PC, replace the icon, and push it back to your phone via adb.
NinjaMorph is the best approach, however, I've encountered instances/apps where NinjaMorph just doesn't work. For those I went with the second option above.
On top of that you would need to create your own "word" icons in a editing program assuming you haven't already found an icon pack.
FolderOrganizer is what you're looking for. It will place instances of itself in the shortcuts menu and from there you can rename, change icons, etc., etc. I currently have over 20,000 png icons that I have collected for ObjectDock and all I do is resize the ones I want to 48x48 and copy them over to a directory I call Iconz on the SD card and I can use them whenever I go to change an icon.
Cheers...
Just to clarify... I also use Folder Organizer, but that doesn't change the default icon for the app, just the ones that show on the home screen.
If that's all you need, then Folder Organizer is great, but I came to this thread looking for a way to change the default app icons so I just wanted to clarify that point about Folder Organizer.
Think I'll take a stab at NinjaMorph. Thanks okolowicz!

Editing PNGs on PowerAMP

I want to replace the icons and edit the color of the widget text. I found the files and edited them for the text and photo-shopped the icons. Rezipped it and resigned it. I uninstalled the old poweramp (left the unlocker installed). Installed the new re-signed one using root-explorer but it says can't open modified apk install poweramp from market. Pretty annoying I just wan't to edit the icons for the widget is there another way replace icons for the widgets without editing the apk?

[Q] Little Instruction for a first-time custom job. (Android)

So, I'm not sure if I'm in the right place here (literally just activated my xda account). I want to customize some icons for a few apps, but not just the app icon. The main app I am concerned with is called SystemPanel Task Manager. It has some widget icons to choose from for an "End All" widget. I want to edit the image files (probably .png's), but I can't find the data on my SD card. Any hints as to where I can find these files?
You have to replace the pngs in the apk files (Zip packages that contain Android applications).
System applications are located in /system/app/ and non-systems apps in /data/app/
As long as you only want to change images, you can just pull them from the apk file and push them back in using 7zip or the like, but if you want to change xml or code, you would have to decompile the apk.

Where are Nova theme icon packs located in phone?

I used to be able to extract the PNGs from icon themes because Notification Toggle can't change icons unless its saved on your gallery, but recently they changed locations and I cant find them. I've been using root explorer trying to search for the folder location to extract the PNGs of certain icon packs (like Nox for example) ...anybody know the location of these icon packs?
they dont show up under system/app or data/app\
EDIT: never mind found it under MNT/ASEC/
