First impressions of the Zens wireless charger for my Nex 4
I got the Zens single wireless charger for about 42 bucks delivered. Ordered on a Sunday and delivered on Wednesday form Shopandroid. Free shipping because I ordered an additional item and they give you free shipping for orders over 50 bucks. No tax and they were running a 15% off for the July 4th weekend.
I use a TPU case and placed the phone on it several times and each time it started to charge. It is not fussy at all about placement. There is a thin outline where you should place the phone. There is no light until you place the phone on it. When you put the phone on the pad the light turns red then quickly green when the phone begins to charge. When the charging is complete, the light and charger go off. The phone also wakes up and makes a jingle when it begins to charge. I charge my phone overnight. The first AM I got up, and the charger was off but the phone was only charged 96%. I put it back on the charger for about ½ hr and it was still charging but up to 99%. When I got home from work, my phone was 69% charged. I put it back on the charger. I checked it after about 2 hours and it was still charging but it was 100%. I again charged it overnight and it was 98% when I got up. I think when the phone reaches full charge the sucker turns off. I hope it comes back on at some point. This AM, it was 100% when I got up.
The phone does get warm when charging. It comes with a hard wired plug and not a usb cable and adapter because it puts out 12 volts not 5. It is rated 1000am.
Well, so far I like it:
It works with my case.
The phone does not fall off the pad like other I have read about
It is not fussy on where you place the phone like others I have read about
It charges faster than I thought
Lights keep you informed of what it is doing.
They give you a very thin piece of rubber the size of a dime that sticks to the pad. They say if is for the Nexus 4. I assume it so it won’t slide off if you put the phone on naked and it vibrates. I did not install it on mine as I use a case.
My only concern is whether or not the charger will turn back on after the phone has charged and then dropped down again.
A note about customer service: About a week ago, I sent a question to Zens through their web site. I did not get a answer. That Annoys me. Nowhere was I able to find if this charger worked with a case. They don’t say one way or another on their web site and not a lot of places sell this thing. I was able to find a review somewhere that said it would work.

As far as i can tell i have not had an shutdowns or lockups etc.. while using the LG charger that came with the G2x. I had been using the one that came with my Nexus One and it seems that almost every time i have used it, i would get a shut down or a reboot or black screen of death etc... usually at a full charge. ie i would wake up in the morning to a unresponsive phone.
Has anyone bought an extra wall charger or a Car charger that did not cause any issues? If so where? Did anyone buy the ones ("They call it a Universal charger" ) directly from TMobile? Since technically in the manual LG says to use their own charger..but i thought all manufacturers say that.
I am wondering if the one that came with the Nexus One has the built in circuitry for not letting it get to much voltage or whatever they are supposed to block. I have seen some online that say they have something built into the charger...which not having it may be the issue.
I thought the phone does ..switches to trickle charge when almost full. At least my Nexus did... but i get lock ups sometimes no where near full... with the G2x. And i get it every so often with my Car charger too.
Thanks
I've been using the ones from my HD2 no problem yet.. :knocks on wood:

Before you go out and buy a generic charger from Ebay, make sure you check out the miliamps on the chargers. The G2X AC charger is 1000 mA which is pretty high. My previous Samsung phone was 700mA which was less. If you buy anything that has a low mA rating it will take longer to charge. I bought a cheap generic charger from Ebay before and it was rated at 300mA!!! That's barely enough to keep the battery level the same while you use your phone or have it on. Don't use your USB plug from your computer because the mA is very low and you will run down your battery having your phone on. A good 2nd home charger is the Blackberry AC charger. They are under $5 from Amazon and they are 700mA.

For the car buy this Motorolla charger. 950mA! and about $6

Thanks for the input everyone. I will look into grenademastas suggestions.
Just an FYI... still
...as far as I know, i have not had a "self reboot" (well no lockups for sure... self reboot you have to look for i guess...) since i began using the charger that came with the G2x as my primary charger, for overnight charging.
I also started rebooting my phone once a day when i take it off the LG charger.
And also since i did this, I have not woke up to a "unresponsive" phone where i had to do a battery pull. I was using my Nexus Ones charger as the primary charger.
And i had switched from Launcher Pro to Zeam. So i will try going back to Launcher pro for a few days and see what happens. As i thought original it was Launcher pro causing reboots and lockups. Zeam is pretty fas so if no lock ups , i am not sure what i will stick with.
Thanks for the link, I ordered one for each car. Ive seen a few Micro USB chargers locally for $10-$15 but they never list the ma on the package.
My current charger can only keep up with the N1 when not running GPS. it barely keeps the G2X steady

Trust story. I found a micro usb charger in my closet and started using it the same day I got my phone because the cored was longer. It was taking FOREVER to charge and when it was at 100% if i started using it while plugged in it would still drain to like 97%. I was like wtf everyone said this phone charges faster than others. Then I checked the specs of the charger and realized it was the charger for one of my old bluetooth headsets and the output was only 150mah .
So I got today the car charger I ordered from ebay for 3$, http://www.ebay.com/itm/400281723676?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Its a 2.1A max output charger and the phone is gaining charge while being used with gps.
Edit: A little update:
Yesterday I had 2 drives with the phone the charger connected and the gps on, first was 50 minutes second was 35, both times everything worked great and the phone got charged.
Today as I was driving back home after the phone on with the gps and the charger for 10 minutes I received a "battery temperature too hot, stopping charging".
I can relate a few factors to this, first when i entered the car it was scolding hot, second probably the car mount was also hot and 3rd my case is really cheap and chocking.
I downloaded a battery temperature widget and I'll check the battery and the charger in a few different situations, with and without the case when the car is hot.
Edit: I checked the current the phone takes while being connected to the wall and the cat charger and they are both approx 860mA so the issue comes to the phone itself.
Is this the one you mentioned a couple weeks ago?

So whatever became of your car charger? Did it fry anything?
Wireless charging seems flaky at best. Sometimes, it works like a champ. Sometimes, my phone will stop charging, start charging, stop charging, start charging, etc. until I get annoyed, pick it up, and put it back on the charger. I left it on the charger overnight and found it at 87% this morning. I don't know if it wasn't charging properly that whole time, or if it got to 100% and then just stopped charging. Any tips on this? Anyone else having similar issues?
FYI - this is the Samsung charging pad and the phone with no case or anything on it.
No issues here. Work flawlessly
I'm also having the issue with wireless charging starting and stopping. My charging pad, however is an ebay qi pad. Seems very position dependent on both of the pads I was using successfully with my S3.
The behavior is that it will start charging, then 10 seconds to a minute later stop. Then start....then stop...
S6
I have the sony charging pad and I've noticed my S6 stops charging when I get any kind of notification...
No issues here
you shall use 2A chargers to be effective.
I do. I have an official Samsung 2A charger with an official Samsung USB cable attached to an official Samsung wireless charger.
I haven't paid attention to it throughout the day, but I did notice that if I place my phone on the wireless charger it seems to charge to 100% and then it will stop charging. I know a few nights ago the samsung puck was green when I fell asleep but in the morning when I woke up I was down to 92%. I will be taking the wireless charger with me to work tomorrow so I will know for sure if it stops charging at 100% or if it does what you are describing.
Both my gf and I bought our Galaxy s6 edge on release day at Bestbuy and with the preorder the wireless chargers we're included free. The past 2 nights both of our phones have had this issue. Mine only charged to 87% yesterday and 93% today. Hers was at 88% yestwrday and 96%today.
I'm curious if the wireless charger takes a much longer time to completely charge the device to 100%.
For me better wireless charger than wire... I think I've better battety life.
With wireless charging I use wire charger included.

iirc thats supposed to happen to prevent overcharging.
Does wireless charge work with OTG plugged in?

Thats makes sense but I've my wireless charger next to be bedside table and I was woken up but the charger plugged in notification sound constancy going off.
It would be really great to turn those sounds off. Also, you have to assume that there's some battery level where it will restart wireless charging, right?

This is what I was hoping for when I said above that I saw it hit 100% and then overnight it drained to 92%. I would hope that if it falls below 97% or so that it would charge again to 100% so it keeps cycling but right now I am not sure if it does it.
I've noticed the exact same problem with mine. I got the free Samsung official wireless charger from Best Buy. The phone charges to 100% every night but when it finishes, usually around 3 or 4 a.m., it just stops charging and doesn't start again. So this means that every day when I wake up my phone has drained to around 90%. This never happened with my Nexus 5 on a generic wireless charger. It always kept it topped up until I remove the phone. This is really annoying.
BTW if you go into the settings menu under battery, you can see exactly when your phone stopped charging.

that sounds like the best reason untill i hear anything more concrete, might try charging tonight direct via the cable and see if it hits 100%
but with no replaceable battery they may have introduced this to prolong the life of the battery.
I totally get not overcharging. But it's got to kick back on at some point. Leaving your phone on a charger overnight should basically guarantee 100% in the morning. Maybe at 97% it could kick back on, or at 100%, it could go into a trickle mode. I'm sure some custom development will come along and fix this problem.
Here's hoping for an update or something through soon. Gonna test a full charge before tonight and see if it actually states it reaches 100%
I'll post what I find.

A few weeks back I bought a wireless charger off eBay for about £10 (I really didn't want to pay over £40 for the official one if I wasn't going to use it much), and I'm sure I've read something somewhere about someone saying the S6 doesn't always charge properly on the first placement on the wireless charger, and they need to pick it up, and place it down again. What I was wondering is, is this normal? If so, how many times do you guys need to place the phone onto the charger before it actually starts charging properly (and doesn't stay awake saying "wireless charging paused")?
I'm finding it rather irritating, and I will upgrade to a better charger if that's what the problem is. If you could mention what kind of wireless charger you use when responding, that would be really great!!
Many thanks!!
I received my wireless charger with the Samsung promo so I got the official one. I need to place the phone a certain way which just is with the edges to the back/front and in the middle and it charges instantly without problems. I never had any pauses unless I take the phone off it.
Dunno what other people experience with it but there fine for me.
I've been considering investing in a wireless car cradle but I've heard a lot of stories where people have had issues with getting the phone perfectly aligned so it would charge. For me wireless should be easy. Just plop it down on the pad and it would charge, quicker than plugging a cable in but it seems in reality people have to move the phone about until perfect alignment is achieved. Such a shame.. Although I've just seen a wireless pad that has alignment LEDS that light up to show either incorrect or perfect alignment. Maybe that feature would make it easier? I think i'll hold off buying a wireless charger for now at least.
Ive had two of these with mixed results
http://www.amazon.co.uk/CHOETECH-Wireless-Charging-Motorola-included/dp/B00JA7HNZO
you have to place the top edge of the phone at the top of the charger, far from easy.
I have the official wireless charger as got it free with the phone.
You have to place the phone just right which hacks me off. But once it's on it charges perfectly.
It is a pain if you want to quickly check the time on it in the middle of the night and then blindly have to faff about trying to place it perfectly on the stupid pad to get it back on charge.

The charger I have has two LEDs. A red one for "power connected" and a blue one for "charging device". Sadly, the blue one lights up even when my phone is in its "charging-charging paused-charging-charging paused" mood.
If you guys are having trouble too, at least I know it's not my pad
I oftentimes place my phone on the charging pad only to have it not start charging. If I pick it up and set it back down again, it will start charging. I have no explanation.
Charging brick/adapter, whatever, stopped working on Sunday. Plugged my phone in with 50% and about an hour later it was at 50%. WTF, unplugged it plugged it back in, charging light is on and it says charging. 15 minutes later, it still doesn't say charging rapidly, and it's still at 50%. GRRRRRRRR I rebooted the phone, nothin. I do a hard boot, still nothin. I grabbed my old 10 charging brick, and it starts charging normal. It worked fine with the 10 brick.
Contacted HTC, and they told me they don't have any power adapters yet since the phone is so new. I'm on my own. I escalated and got a support ticket number.
Anyone know of a power brick from amazon or something that will quick charge this thing? I can't commandeer the 10 charger, that phone is being used by another family member now.
You can buy any QC3 enabled Charger. Output should be 2.4A.
Anker, trusty source. Or buy an HTC QC adapter from Amazon.
Seems it might be the phone now, the U12+ charger is working again.
Its hit or miss when it just decides to not actually charge. If this keeps up I'll be returning this thing
maybe dirt in the connector?
