[Q] Google maps 7 not fluide ... Am I the only one ? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I am running CM10 on my Xoom with no overclock. I am very happy with everything except one thing since yesterday : I updated Google Maps to the last 7 release, and very big disapointment : I don't like the new ergonomy, but my biggest disapointment is the fluidity : very bad now ! Sometimes it's a bit fluide, then if I zoom it becomes laggy, in map mode or satellite mode. I searched for display options to disable but couldn't find any ...
Do you have the same problem on your Xoom?
Can anyone please confirm the latest release before 7 was 6.14.4 ? I want my previous Google maps back...
Thanks !

Works perfectly for me ?

I just tried the 6.14.4 release and it's definitly a lot more smooth and fluide... So I will keep this old release on my Xoom and blame Google for that ! I hope they will correct this in future releases but I don't believe it as for now it seems that I am the only to think the fluidity is bad now ...

I hope for you too

Thanks for pointing this one out.
I received the maps update this morning and almost immediately thought this was rubbish. Previous version was much better.
So googled for version 6.14.4 apk and installed that instead - thanks for the tip.

I used two Xoom side by side, one was running 6.14.4 and the other 7.0 :
it was horrible to see how laggy was 7.0 compared to 6.14.4. This test was done, of course, while displaying the exact same region on both Xoom.
I already noticed this fluidity problem before doing this test, but I was then convinced I had to downgrade the release.
The most strange is that many people says "hey, 7.0 is very fluide". These people are using different devices than our but why should this problem only occurs on some devices (like our Xoom) and not on some other ? Don't say it's because of the processor because there is nothing more displayed on screen with 7.0.
I really think this is a bad programing problem ... Did Google hire some students this summer for this job ???

Same too
Big flickering issue with Google maps 7 in landscape.
That's the first time I return back to previous version.

I just tried Google Maps 7 on my Galaxy S3, it's better than on our Xoom (more Fluide) but still not as fluide as on the previous release ...
So this issue is definitly a programming problem, not a performance problem from our Xoom.
I really hope Google will do something about this, I hate this bad fluidity, it makes me sick ...

[Q] Is Cyanogenmod9 worth it?

So i've been doing some research about cyanogen mod 9 for my HTC desire and have read all the people's comments about how good it is but an still not convinced. I mean that i've heared that cyanogenmod 9 does not make your camera work. Thats a major set back isn't it? Also there are some other serious probs e.g WiFi, Google play apps e.t.c. So is cyanogenmod 9 worth all these troubles? Whats the up side?
The main benefit, is it gives people like me who own devices (samsung infuse) that dont get official ICS updates. It runs great on my device, and i prefer it to any other rom ive tried, but i use my sixaxis controller with my phone, and due to bluetooth not working im using CM7 til that issue is resolved. but in all honesty CM9 is the best custom Rom available for my device at least it you dont need bluetooth. it runs great and my battery life is great.
what about andriod apps. do apps run on such a firmware.
(espicially games)??
They certainly do! It's just like a normal ICS device - there's the Play Market and you can install any app suited for ICS
BTW, CM9 rocks, AOKP even more!
I Cyanogen 9 with my HTC ONE X. I also have problems with the Bluetooth works partially. After each ROM is different. Much like me, flash your phone to find THE right ROM.
Cyanogenmod 9 is brilliant if it's stable build. From your description they're still working on it,so I'd urge you be patient and try cyanogenmod 7 instead.
Or,check out MIUI4 rom if you're still interested in ICS

The matureness of CM9 depends also on the device you own, and the available or unavailable drivers - in your case it seems there are problems with the cam.
I suggest to get CM7.2 instead, till those problems are fixed on your device.
CM9 will always run as It provides you the best latest features from google.
Only "problem" I've experienced on CM9 on my Epic 4g is that Dead Space is no longer recognized as an authorized device. Other than that, I enjoy using it over GB. It feels like the interface makes "more sense," but of course that's just a personal preference.
I not a huge fan of CM9 ...as i ahev flashed in S2 couple of times ...but still the force close issue persist with the nightly builds(ICS)...!!
I can't wait for a stable build for the GS3! (yet I have to )

Using experimental cm9 build on Atrix. It's worth it, but it comes with sacrifices.
My phone is much much faster, smoother, and prettier. But at the cost of stability with the camcorder, and some obscure cm7 features.

[Q] Chrome???

I have tried to use Chrome on a couple different roms (RC's CM9 Self Kang, JB Hackfest, Paranoid Android ver.8) and each time it starts ok then crashes after about 30 seconds. Has anyone gotten Chrome to work for them yet on their G2x? Am I the only one still trying to actually use a G2x? It's not my daily driver, it's my ONLY driver.
Yes indeed chrome works for the CM10.1 based ROM (by Adampk and others) that's still in development.
How? It has hardware acceleration working so many things actually work including camera except radio ( so no calls no text, your phone is practically a "tablet")
Can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1977573
And I'm still rocking my G2x
Thanks, but that still doesn't help much until the radio works. I appreciate the info, though. My new year's resolution is to finally give in and get a new phone, but I'm starting to get into that "bigger and better around the corner" wait and see attitude. Note 2 needs to come down on price.
Good news for anybody interested, the new Chrome Beta is working wonderfully for me now. Still running PA8.

Random Apps Killed.

Hi all,
Since yesterday night my phone has been getting REALLY nasty... It basically kills apps randomly (generally apps not in the android market I think... but may be not related). I open the app, and after a few seconds the app is closed and the nasty message "XXX app was closed" (In spanish, so don't know exactly which is in english exactly).
I don't know if it is related only to cyanogen mod (I'm running CM10.2 on HTC one S. S-off) or to any kind of update on the android market or something... but the use of my cell phone is now horribly restricted.
I checked it is not related to the apps, because I deleted/reinstalled/used older versions and nothing was changed.
Does anyone have the same problem? Does anyone know a solution?
Thank you!

I suggest you using cm11 now is much better compared to cm10.2 and are you on kernel 3.4? cause i had it on the 3.0.8 kernel.
If you prefer cm10.2 i suggest you reinstalling the latest version available from the scratch with a clean install. This always solves issues if they are not related the the ROM itself. If the issue remains let me know i will try to help you!
Have a nice day

I am always a bit reluctant to use non stable releases... as I'm not a "pro" user and I just want to have something usable...
Is it really working well CM11 on HTC One S? It's kind of cool that we can still get new versions with our "old" phone...
I re-installed CM 10.2 from scrath and the problem seems to have dissapeared... but I just cannot understand what was the problem... and It's a bother if CM users need to reinstall everything from time to time...
Thank you for your help!

Best ROM for running kids' games?

Hi everyone,
Simply put, what's the best ROM to use specifically for a 7 year old who wants to play games like the Lego games, Minecraft PE, and that awful bloons TD battles?
Everything was fine until my child's p5113 updated itself automatically to 4.2.2. Immediately after, it became unstable, frequently crashing and rebooting itself. Oddly, my other, identical p5113 used by my other child had no issues with the 4.2.2 update. Maybe a bad download flash? After some months of hearing complaints of the tablet freezing/rebooting in the middle of my kid's games, I decided to flash a custom ROM and get rid of all the bloat.
I used a May build of Omnirom which was much more stable, but I grabbed it at a time when it was having issues with disabling the keyboard (it assumed a hardware keyboard was present). So after every reboot I had to go into settings and fix it, not useful for a 7 year old child. But we made do through spring and summer until things started getting unstable again.
I installed Slimkat yesterday, and it looks beautiful, but the LEGO Speedorz game installs but dies right before the racing action starts. Bloons battles downloads but gives an error during installation. Sigh.
Cyanogenmod gives the same problems with the games, as does the latest Omnirom.
I don't care at all about fancy stuff, I just want something basic t hat actually works for my kid's games. I've installed several ROMs over the past day... several wouldn't even boot. I'm tempted to get an account at SAMMOBILE to get the stock firmware and flash that, but stock is so bloaty I imagine that's a source of problems.
I suspect I may have an actual board problem with the tablet, but before selling this one for parts and buying a new one, I'd like to exhaust all possibilities. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Marc
My daughter has Stock 4.1.1 (P5113UECLK7) rooted with the Next kernel and it seems to be ok. She runs a Ton of games daily with Minecraft being number 1. I have the file but am unable to upload it here so I would have to send it thru an email link. I have various others as well....Pure Vanilla 4.2.2, Brolees 4.2.2 and Shakatus newest Zapblaster v2.3 which is 4.2.2 Thats a really zippy ROM and he just updated it for the last time so its pretty new and very good. You can get that one on xda but I believe that all the lenks are down for the rest I mentioned. But I do have them just in case.

Excellent. Thanks. If you could PM me a link to Pure Vanilla that would be great. I was looking for that one yesterday and the links were dead. :crying: The Shakatu mostly stock/rooted one didn't boot for me for some reason. But Ripper ROM based on it seems to be working well. Would love pure vanilla as a backup. I will also look into the zapblaster one.
Thanks so much for replying!
Marc
Sammobile and samsung-updates both have that file. Sammobile doesn't send me any emails even though I have an account so that isn't really a problem. The accounts are free. If you root it, you can remove the extra system apps. You could also flash the next kernel for some extra speed and overclock.

What's the most stable Saga ROM Android 4.1+?

Hello
I'm looking for the most stable ROM there is for Desire S that's 4.1 or higher. I've been using some of the ROMs couple of years back but I always came back to 4.0 because it was the most stable. Now, since the 4.0 isn't getting any support from my daily apps I want a change. What would you suggest as a daily user of XDA?
CM11 opendesireproject.org i think (mine runs well with that)

Are you using the latest snapshot build or the newest nightly? I'm on the snapshot build and the battery drain is pretty significant, the google maps are not always launching, snapchat doesn't launch the camera sometimes and there are some rendering bugs. Other than that it's really good. I've quickly gotten used to Google Now and it's great. I can live with it until I get my next phone.
Nightly i used the one before the last one 20160903
