[KERNEL][GPL][3.0.y]Advanced Sense Kernel - r2
The Beast Mode kernel was buit by sbryan12144 from Team Blackout. It based on Team Virtuous HTC msm7x30 3.0 kernel. A month later, p2pjack forked blackout kernel repo and started writing his own kernel, then he named it "Beast Mode MOD kernel". Unfortunately, 2 weeks later, p2pjack had bought a Nexus 4 and moved on. So i PMed him to let me take over his work and continue working on it. This is what he said to me:
p2pjack said:
Well everyone its been fun but its time i moved on have a nexus 4 now and the dhd being retired to the bottom draw as a back up phone . When someone else takes over with this kernel i will close this thread .
Thankyou to everyone here and sbryan12144 for his kernel beastmode

WIP:
Implement Sweep2wake. ---- DONE
Improving battery life. ---- With Sense 4.1/4.5 ROMs, the battery is almost good as kernel 2.6.35, it still drains a bit faster, but it's enough for daily using.
Choose a best governor to set as default governor. -- done, use Interactive governor.
Beta Version:
Beta Version:
Beta version will be write as DD/MM/YYYY, there will be no edition names for each beta version.
Beta version will have bugs/issues. Please report bugs/issues that you found WITH a logcat, if you don't report bugs/issues by following those steps, your report will be ignored, because it will be useless...
Beta version will have some experimental features, so it MAYBE dangerous for your device, so use it at your own risk, BACKUP YOUR PHONE BEFORE TEST THEM!
If you don't follow guide/instruction for Beta version and then you break your device ; you won't get help from me, i will laugh at your face!
Thank you for read all information above! Have a great day!
1/03/2013: A new beta version. This is r2a beta version, if it's stable, so it will be stable version.
Changelog is on Github. There are some improvements for performance and power (battery life). And r3 will be released until s2w code for synaptic_3k touchscreen driver is available. r3 will have many changes, like new undervolting code, GPU overclocking code, ....
So, here is the link to r2a beta version, please BACKUP YOUR PHONE before test it: http://www.mediafire.com/?5s00rucrxhrmolh
Trick:
How to check which touch screen driver you have?:
Download 'Terminal Emulator' App from Google Play, then type this in:
Code:
cat /sys/android_touch/vendor
Then you will see some kind of 'code' like this:
Code:
ATMEL_blahblah_blahblahblah :p
, that means you have Atmel touch screen driver.
Sweep2wake feature:
Authored by show-p1984. If you don't know how it is, please spend a little time to watch this Video:
To active/control it, you should use ViperDHD ROM, there is a option in Venom Tweaks (Setting Application -> Scroll down a bit -> Venom Tweaks), you can control it (Only can 'Enable' or 'Disable' for now, 'Enable (no backlight buttons)' option hasn't worked yet, DO NOT TRY IT!).
If you use another Sense ROMs (Sabsa Prime/Bliss, Blackout, Virtuous Infinity...), download "Sweep2Wake-Widget" app from Google Play Store. It's a Widget, so use it as a Widget, download it, then add the Widget to your home screen, tap it. When it turn to green color, s2w is ready/
Get the 'last_kmsg' and 'kmsg' files:
To get those file. Just use a File Manager app which can access to "/" partion. Then access to "/proc", you will find them in there.

Any chance you could make one for Beastmode v1.5? Are there any significant differences between Beastmode v1.5 and v1.5?
Last, if I remember correctly, you made some tweaks to the Beastmode kernel, are this present in your v1.5, or is your v1.5 a stock v1.5 updated to 3.0.55?
Sorry for all the questions, and thanks.

Introduction
This is a replacement kernel for CyanogenMod 10 and 10.1 evita builds. The kernel is designed to be as close as possible to the stock CyanogenMod kernel with a few improvements.
Linaro toolchain:
The kernel is compiled with the latest Linaro toolchain based on gcc 4.7 rather than the default Android toolchain. This may provide performance improvements in some situations. I have made a few patches applied to make it compatible with gcc 4.7.
Overclock:
The highest frequency now available under Settings -> Performance with these kernels is,
Code:
CPU: 1782 MHz 1.25 V
L2: 1350 MHz 1.15 V
BUS: 532 MHz
I've also included a modified thermald.conf in the flashable zip.
Refresh rate:
I've reverted the refresh rate to the original value from the sense source code (57 Hz). This works better when "Disable HW overlays" is selected.
Downloading and installing
Download the flashable zip,
cm10.1_vz-oc-linaro.4.zip MD5=7233ccffa17fa16a2dc6292ecf755fb4
mega.co.nz
ubuntuone.com

cm10.1_vz-oc-linaro.1.zip MD5=1a5f3b50608e6b44da50829b2c04ec5c
If you have HBOOT earlier than 1.14 or have S-OFF, then you can just flash the zip from recovery. This will flash the kernel as well as all required modules and thermald.conf. Otherwise, HBOOT 1.14 users will need to extract the boot.img, enter bootloader mode and run
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then you will also need to flash the zip to get modules and themald.conf.
Compatability
cm10.1_vz-oc-linaro.4 is compatible with CM10.1 UNOFFICIAL build from 16/04/2013 onwards.
cm10.1_vz-oc-linaro.3 is compatible with CM10.1 NIGHTLY build from 01/03/2013 onwards.
cm10.1_vz-oc.2 (and linaro) are compatible with CM10.1 NIGHTLY build from 19/02/2013 only.
cm10.1_vz-oc.1 (and linaro) are compatible with CM10.1 UNOFFICIAL build from 06/02/2013 only.
vz-oc.2 (and linaro) are compatible with CM10 NIGHTLY builds from 26/12/2012 to 13/01/2013.
vz-oc.1 (and linaro) are compatible with CM10 NIGHTLY builds from 28/11/2012 to 25/12/2012.
Future development
I hope to introduce GPU overclocking soon and there will be updated builds as
soon as changes come into the main CyanogenMod repo.
Building the kernel
For those who would like to build the kernel themselves, here are some basic
instructions. First you will need to acquire some tools. You can get the default
toolchain from the CM10 source code at,
Code:
system/prebuilt/linux-x86/toolchain/arm-eabi-4.4.3/
Otherwise, if you want to use the Linaro toolchain, you can get it at
Linaro toolchain
You will also need a working boot image to get the ramdisk from. You can build
mkbootimg using these instructions
building mkbootimg
Finally, you can get split_bootimg_pl from William Encks site
download split_bootimg_pl
Clone the repo and change to your desired branch
Code:
git clone https://github.com/vanja-zecevic/android_kernel_htc_msm8960.git
git checkout jellybean-oc
Now export an environmental variable pointing to your desired toolchain
Code:
export CCOMPILER=$PATH_TO_TOOLCHAIN/bin/arm-eabi-
Copy the config file, run menuconfig once and start the build replacing -j12
with your desired number of threads
Code:
cp ./config-oc ./.config
make ARCH=arm SUBARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=$CCOMPILER menuconfig
make ARCH=arm SUBARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=$CCOMPILER -j12
Extract a ramdisk from a working boot image and repack with your freshly built
kernel using the following command for cm10,
Code:
./split_bootimg_pl ./boot.img
./mkbootimg --base 0x80400000 --ramdiskaddr 0x81800000 \
--cmdline 'console=ttyHSL0,115200,n8' \
--kernel arch/arm/boot/zImage --ramdisk boot.img-ramdisk.gz \
-o boot_vz-oc.img
cm10.1 will need the following cmdline
Code:
--cmdline 'console=ttyHSL0,115200,n8 androidboot.hardware=qcom'
You are ready to flash your new kernel!
Contact
I hope you enjoy using this kernel! Please also visit the github page for this project for alternative download links and for the source code.

Cheers,
Vanja

1. Could you post flash able zips for the majority of us who can flash these in recovery?
2. Very few users including myself have issues with kernels without stock voltage values. The device will just not boot, any way to have separate versions without different voltages just to rule that issue out when people ask why their device won't boot?

+1 thank you
Straight talked from my HOX!
I like the idea of a stockish CM10 OC kernel, Me myself i underclock. I would give this a go see how it holds up. the increase in clock speed is usually a nice thing to have even if not used. Also a 2.0GHz version would be awesome too.
Nice job!

I'm currently running HBOOT 1.14, so I will need to downgrade to 1.09 before I can make/test flashable kernel zips. I think I will get around to this in the next week.
I will also look into some other requests.
Is anyone running the kernel? Are you happy with it? Any benchmarks?

I don't plan on maintaining them, but if newer versions come out, just rename to boot.img and swap out the file in the zips:

Hi nespid, unfortunately, these kernels currently only support builds from 28/11/2012 onward. I've re-written the "Compatibility" section to make that more clear.
I will put up a build compatible with the "stable" build in a few days if you like.

After using it for even a little bit it spoils you, it really is an awesome feature. Otherwise thank you for your hard work, I'll leave feedback in a couple days after testing!
Thanks much, got the kernel running on CM10.1 with 1.14 hboot no problems. Modified thermald.conf and seems to allow oc to stick thus far.

Bardzo dziękuję Sebastian!
I beg everyone to actually browse the commits on Sebastian's github. You will plainly see why this was a painstaking process to complete. He starting loading all the commits a few hours ago and completed them in a very timely manner. Each and every commit (31 in total) is well separated and easy to follow.
I know pressure was put on by other "kernel devs", but they had the option of porting this themselves from the start. Only one person (SebastianFM) actually stepped to the plate and made it happen. I would encourage all users of this kernel, and every kernel that will soon be based off of this, to show the utmost gratitude for the efforts put forth here.

That`s Pretty amazing to have Real Jelly Bean`s Kernel for our lovely Device " Sensation "....
Such a progress turns our sensation to an updated PHONE with most common and well known features that is included in modern smart phones Nowadays
to have a device with real jelly bean kernel and OTG without power supply connector and that would be great to have sense based MIUI V5 and semi official 4.1 ROM

Im not sure its your fault. I get the same bootloops on faux's ult. kernel. Which doesn't make sense because his normal one works fine.

I had to rebase my whole source to the new branch motorola updated today. So,don't expect a build by today.Probably tomorrow.
Everyone trying this kernel, can you post in the following manner:
Model (eg.xt1053)
CDMA/GSM
Boot.img of the model
Remember:This kernel is only for stock ROMs. This will not work on aosp/cm11 based ROMs.

Does the kernel have OC till 2.1 ?? You have mentioned in your features list.
It makes me so sad that CDMA gets no love.
Thanks for your work all the same!

JediKernel This kernel is compatible with AOSP 5.1.1. This will not work on Stock based ROMs. Until I have a chance to finish my own kernel control app, I recommend TricksterMod

Good to see a familiar face!
Ya it has been a whole since all that, but life has been super hectic.
I got the g3 from my company as a work phone and figured I'd get back to sharing on XDA

Currently no faux sound and doubt I will add it. I avoid adding features that drive revenue for other devs

I know you're putting up a new version but FYI I'm on Orion and it bootloops for me as well. I haven't devved a kernel in a long time but if you're using the PA boot image, maybe it would be more compatible if it just injects the kernel into the existing boot image. Just a thought. Thanks for the hard work.

Thanks for the idea and I actually spent a day or two refactoring an updated mkboot script to open up, create dt.img, and compile however Android doesn't support python to bump the new boot.img. the locked bootloader wasn't a thought until I finished the process and couldn't boot lol.
