I have an Android Paranoid in my neo L..
And somehow I mange to research and got to know how to use personal tone for my notifications and ringtones by using "Speaking Zeph" wherein you type a word or words and upon saving automatically it will saved as a WAV file and automaically will appear as one of the options in tones...
But when I chose to use another tone in WAV or MP3 or OGG and save it in both SD and System folders [notifications/ringtones/tones] and even used the quoted codes, the terminal emulator keeps on saying "OPERATION OT PERMITTED"...
By using the code above, I believe it is the ultimate process of changing a files permission so i can copy it to the sytems folder yet it is not permitted...
Please help!

ICS is great and all but is there a way to hide ringtones and small music files that show up in the music library? MIUI had a file size filter so is there anyway to get that on ICS music player too?
I think if you create a blank file with name .nomedia in the directories which you don't want the media scanner to add to its database, it will do the trick for you.
To create such file, the easiest way I find is to use Android Terminal Emulator program. just go to the directory using "cd" command and then give "touch .nomedia" command.
anyway I can create this file on windows? im not too familiar with android stuff yet
edit: ok i downloaded the terminal emulator, and entered the exact following:
cd
touch .nomedia
I get : touch .nomedia Permission denied
superuser does pop up asking me to give permission or anything, what should i do?
I have a bunch of different notifications and ringtones I'd like to use, but I cant insert them into the default directory along with the other ringtones. Is there anyway to do this?
Are you rooted? If so, you can use root explorer or es file explorer to mount /system as writable (I assume you are rooted if you know where to put the files) then copy your files.

So through Clockwork, I know how to mount /system, but then what? Do i start the phone as normal to get to the OS, and do my file swapping from there?
Or do I need to do something else?
**** i didnt see the part about Root Explorer. I'm download ES right now.
Why do you want to put it in your system folder and not on your SD card? Every time you flash a new nightly or release you'll have to put them there again.
No one ever uses ADB anymore for some reason, but if you're running windows you can create a batch file to delete the stuff you don't want and the push your files to the media folder. I have a batch file I run after every nightly to remove a lot of junk, here is the commands I use for the sounds. I don't push any sounds to the media folder b/c they are all on my sd card.
Code:
adb shell rm -f /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
adb shell rm -f /system/media/audio/ringtones/*.ogg
adb shell rm -f /system/media/audio/notifications/*.ogg

You can put them on your External SD in Folders named ringtones and notifications. The rom should read it from there, or mine does. I am using Xborders GB 1.0.
Cant delete an audio file !!
I installed an audio app from the market. It gave options to "Set as ringtone" for its sounds. I set a tone. But now i cant remove it from my system/media/audio/ringtones !!. Its so irritating. I have a rooted xperia mini ( ROM - Jelly Vanilla Ex 2.1) ... I even flashed the stock firmware, wiped data and everything, but every time i set a new ringtone, it is present in the SOUND PICKER !. Can anyone please help me in this ??? Is this a virus or anythin >???? :crying:
Well I've read a good number of articles online about setting your own ringtone on the Apollo - none of which work on this G3 Modded phone for some reason?
I cannot write a new folder called media on the internal SD card - it will not let me.
I can write a new folder called media on the ext_SD card but it will only allow me to put one folder inside....
No matter what I try, the phone will only look at reading the media folder in the system for the default ringtones...
So, does anybody have any idea how to choose your own ringtone and notification?

If you have root you can push your ringtones to system/media/audio/rintones (or system/media/audio/notifications for notifications).

Try using root explorer, at the top right corner there will be mount R/W button just press it when you will be in system/media/audio/rintones and you should be able to copy. The same with notifications.

Well I managed to get Root Browser installed onto the phone - then although I could transfer the files finally, the system wouldn't see them as .mp3 files.
Converted them online to .ogg and the system still couldn't see them...when selecting ringtone etc.
Rebooted phone as a last effort and all is now well :silly:
I'm not so sure why this is so difficult really - it was all very simple on the previous non-Smart phone from ZTE :cyclops:
Thanks for the help
You're welcome
Recently bought one plus one in India , was trying to customize the ringtone by using mp3 songs. But read in one of the forum that need to copy mp3 file in Ringtone folder and you will be able to see it in system ringtone's list.
But in my case the ringtones folder is in
/system/media/audio/ringtones
which is not allowing me to add any files , since do not have permission to write on this folder.
Please advice..
Is this the right folder to copy the desired mp3 file or have to copy somewhere else.?
If this is the right folder, how to set the permission to copy any files.
Following are few details about my phone
Android versio
4.4.4
model A0001
cyanogen OS 11
Thanking you in advance.
Cheers !!

What message are you getting when trying to add the files and what are you using to try and do so? I can copy and paste an mp3 to the folder using es file explorer, changing the mp3's permissions to rw-r-r, then reboot and you can select it from the settings>sound>ringtones menu. You should be able to just set an mp3 from other programs, like shuttle music player, just click on the 3 dot menu on a track and you have an option to set as phone ringtone.
The file path you should be using is /sdcard/ringtones. The other path you are trying to copy them into needs root permissions to write, as that is the system ringtones folder. If you are rooted, then you would be able to write them in there.

Hello there,
Every time I connect USB Mass storage, all my notifications and ringtones get reset and it's quite annoying. So I'm trying to put the in the /system partition instead.
I tried to copy .ogg files to /system/media/audio/notifications and /system/media/audio/ringtones, then set the permissions to 0644 but they don't show up in the media storage when I choose to choose a notification sounds, even after a restart.
Tried googling about it, but it's specific and I could not find any good information. Anybody knows if I'm supposed to do something else to make it work?
I have a mediatek mtk6582 (Doogee DG700) by the way, if this helps
I found the problem.. turns out I used a recursive chmod command to set all the files permissions assuming the folders had the same permissions.
I had set the audio folder to 0644 to all subfolders also had 644, which prevented the media scanner to execute in these folders and scan the media. I noticed this problem when I could not play a sound in that folder using ES File Explorer.

Wow. Thanks for this. I've been scratching my head as to why I couldn't see my files I'd copied to system/media/audio/notifications
Setting permissions correctly resolved the problem
