Google Maps Offline and Latitude Bye bye - Android General

Google is "updating" (downgrade ) its Android maps apps and is removing the facility to store maps within the handset for use when the phone is out of range of a phone signal.
Users can still preload some local areas into the phone by carrying out searches in advance while they still have a signal, but the move may cause concern to app developers who had relied on the facility for rural mapping services.
The company has also decided to close down its "foursquare-clone", Latitude and check-ins wont be part of the new Google Maps app, and will be retired from older versions on August 9. In order to drive more traffic to its Google+ service, they had added location sharing to that instead.
Away from what is being removed, the new Google Maps app had added in local area adverts, which will be displayed whenever a user tries to carry out a search within the maps app.
They are also adding in local area traffic disruptions in select cities for when users are making use of its built-in navigation service.

Offline maps are still there:
Just type ok maps in search bar.

Google+ has a feature called "locations" that seems to do the location tracking.

But does it do real time tracking or does it only update when you "Check In"?

Google Maps Constant Refresh Tracking?

With Google Maps for PPC we're able to track our current location. But is there a way to have it constantly refresh the tracking so we can see ourselves moving? I've googled to no success.
Microsoft Live for Mobile, which is also free, and better than Google Maps, supports this.

Google Maps not showing routes

Friends map out routes and email them to me. When I click through on my PC, Google Maps shows the map and route. When I click through on my Fuze, I just get the Google Map showing the general area but without a route. How can I fix that?

There are lots. Be more specific if you want more specific apps.
If your a google man, then there's a perfect companion to Google maps. It's called My Tracks and made by Google (Yes, I expected it to be called Google Tracks too )
Careful on battery life though.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Instamapper - very plain but works and doesn't kill the battery.

EDIT: I think "Navigation" is the other piece of Google Maps - I only activate it from Maps, so I'm not certain
Does that mean its free or you paying to

Ah don't you just love the preinstalled apps from phone companies [reminds me of that bogus software preinstalled on store bought computers ... a large reason i started building my own ]
so okay ...
free apps:
Maps - as stated above, it's the Google Maps program. Free on wifi, if done on the edge or 3g network, data charges apply.
Daily Briefing - widget that can display: weather, news headlines and stocks. If used on wifi, its free ... on the edge or 3g network data costs apply
Mobile Banking - exactly as the name implies, a banking program. supports many [but not all] banks. again, free over wifi ...
QuickOffice - a bare bones office program.
Mini Diary - diary app, free
Subscription apps:
AT&T
hotspots
Family maps
music
navigator
mobile Video
where
Other:
Talk - Google Talk program
Instant Messenger - IM program [depending on your plan, could cost subscription or per kb/data charge * if you want to use chat programs i suggest ebuddy or accessing meebo via a browser OVER wifi they are free]
Last time I checked, Media Hub wasn't working but would eventually be working [so I dunno if it'll cost or not].
Video Search is as the name implies, it's for looking up videos online
The other programs I don't know about ... but I can look if you want?
Hope that helps

[Q] Can't share map to My Maps

I use the My Maps app to store my waypoints and Google Maps to navigate on my Note 4. According to all of the info I've found to read online, I should be able to share this map with someone and they should be able to open it in either My Maps or the Google Maps app. I've sent this using the Share option and the invite option, and both only allow the other person to pull them up in the mobile Google Maps web page.
There is a way to share maps, as there is a tab at the top of the app that shows maps shared with you, but man, I can't figure out how to do it. Do you guys know something I missed?
