Is it possible to update Sony Xperia J rooted with locked bootloader??
I can't update the .21 firmware to .31

What I did was root the phone then update via ota. It keeps the root.

Flash stock .31 firmware via Flashtool, if you want rooted .31 you must flash vengeance kernel. I recommend to revert stock kernel (you will keep root). Look at my signature for tutorial on how to root XJ on Jelly Bean.

Maybe you should try the app "universal unroot" .
Also you cannot run cm10 on stock kernel.

Here's the easiest and safest way( keeps your bootloader locked)- Downgrade to ICS ( by flashing android 4.04 on your xperia j), then just root with Unlockroot( it will take about 1 min) and after that just upgrade over the air to Jelly Bean( by turning on your WIFI and you'll see a notification that there's an update available- click that and wait for the update to finish). Boom- you've got yourself a rooted Xperia j on jelly bean.
I hav vengance kernel installed on my xperia J. Now it says the update for my phone is available! So if i update my phone will it change the kernel also? Should i update?

just flash fw14 ftf via flashtool and stock kernel is back
You may download it from sony or another popular site. In xda there is a thread with all the ftf downloadables.
