Hi guys,
I´m a new active member , but an old passive reader so , excuse me if I reapeat something or something else.
So I maybe found a sollution for this f***ing Media Scanner Problem on ICS ROMS:
My Phone P920 O3D with Xperia OptimusRS Rom V6 and Accura Next V4 Kernel.
After Installing the OptimusRS ROM I and everything went finally fine , i met after some Reboots this Problem with the Meda Scanner:
It starts normal , but it takes ages to finish or it stucks at randomly percentage for hours or until you reboot the phone.
The problem happens often but not everytime , so I spend hours and hours to look for a sollution, and I disover that this Problem is present in different forums and with different phones ROMS and not least at stock roms, too.
So the standard possible sollutions was
1. to check the Cards Internal external if there any errors.
2.to format the Internal / External Card
3.To Try another SD Card.
4. To try The "Rescan Media App" on GP Market and Kill The Service
5. To uninstall the MediaProvider.apk and del Cache and Data and Reinstall.
To Reinstall Rom and so on,
for some people this may solve the Media Scanner Problem but I try all this things and after Hours and Hours when i try different kernels and It semms to work for a while , it happens again everything works fine , but sometimes when you restart , the MediaScanner stops at 0% or at 40% or whatever so i was despreate.
But finally I found for me a working sollution and the reason why the mediascanner stucks and i want to share with you.
You can simply check if you have the same issue:
look with a process explorer like quick info pro, when the Media Scanner stucks , if the process
"android.process.media" appears. If not the Media Scanner is killed by OOM. And the difficult is that the notification remains in the status bar but the service won´t work.
So for me this was Reason why the Media Scanner stops. And sometimes it restart by itself but in the most cases noting more happens until I restart my phone , even if i wait for hours.
There are three simple sollutions:
At first try to fix permissions in recovery mode you need cwm or twrp. Maybe this solve the media scanner problem.
Or use the rescan media app , you don´t need the root version , the simple is enough , just run once and the medascanner continues to work, but its possible that you have to reapeat this after a while , when the service is killed again. It works for me 100%.
Or you can renice the process.
Try to put the follow into a file named 09renice from init.d folder:
#!/system/bin/sh
renice -15 `pidof android.process.media`
This works for me perfect, before when I started some Apps at start like browser i have to run rescan media every 20 seconds , because the service was killed every time when the memory was low , i apply the renice script and restart the phone and it works , no matter what happens. And this without the need to run rescan media or something like that.So for me the problem with the media scanner is solved.
I hope this may help someone with this really sucking issue and excuse my english.

just brought a game from t-mobile was playin on it, but now when i try to go on it again through jblend, it wont let me and says (JBLEND FAILED TO RUN THE MIDLET BECAUSE MEMORY IS DANGEROUSLY LOW. PLEASE CREATE MORE SPACE BY REMOVING SOME FILES).
my phone has just returned from repair and has nothing on it, just like buyin from new. i have installed msn messenger, windows live and live search, n tht is it no pictures or music or anything.
can anyone please help, thanks.
i had the same problem, try a hard reset, sometimes when files get deleted it leaves the odd code behind, this code tells the fone that theres only X amount of space left. VERY annoying. i like to call them ghost files.
so try hard reset and if u have a storage card or storage on fone ( try not to use the fones memory!) save it to the space storage and run from there..u dont need to run from device.
or sometimes try a handset reboot. fixes 70% (imo) of problems..
full reboot...handset switch ON, remove battery WITH handset switched on, wait 5sec then pop battery back in and turn on.... this mite solve the prob.
(full handset reboot works for - drop calls,slow fone speed,interenet probs,sms failing,poor sig,freezing fone,etc)
hope this helps.
Hi,
My Vox/S710 is not working fine:
1- Doesn´t boot with the Micro SD Card instaled. I have to remove it to phone start.
2- Too slow, and i dont use several programs at the same time.
3- Alarm starts by himself!
I´m using WM6 Standard. I never try to replace the rom.
Please, help! ( sorry for my english).
It happens with the original Standard WM6 ROM.
Try any of the Custom ROM's from this forum..... all your problems will be solved.
The shipped ROM is also working fine for me. You should try the following first:
Soft Reset the phone on a regular base (once a day) - this will keep memory fragmentation minimal. -> Switch off/on once a day.
Run chkdsk on your memory card. Put in a card reader on the PC and execute chkdsk <drive:> /f on the commandline
Always really close programs when you start another. WMPlayer is a big memory hog, other programs may be as well. Use the Taskmanager to close them.
For the alarms check if the notification queue has some zombies left. Use sktools to clean that up.
If that all does not help only then consider a hard-reset. This will factory reset your device and delete all installed programs as well as data you have entered (contacts, email, text-messages, everything on the device). The device is then from software side in the state like new out of the box.
Putting another ROM on the device will be like a hard reset + you have a new ROM with some problems solved and others probably created. You could go for that only after you did a hard reset anyway.
Hi,
Just got the info from my children that mp3 decoding on their phones is not working (music player hangs).
Both have a Galaxy 3 updated with standard Android 2.2 (subversion is slightly different bcause of different phone customzations by the phone provider).
I tried different music players (stock, google music, winamp) but all causes the same effect: phone starts vibrating and the app crashes...
Of course, no troubles with any other media (video, youtube...).
Given all music apps are impacted, I suspect a problem in a system library.
I've searched in the forums, but found no mentions about my problem (strange, it is on two phones, so should be pretty common).
I'd like to stay with the stock rom, so I'd prefer either installing an app self contained (not using sytem libraries for decoding), or somehow fixing the system libraries w/o having to install a new rom.
I'd like to know if I'm the only one in this position, and if you have suggestions for a fix.
Thanks
You must do a hard reset of your phone.
Just type in *2767*3855# and your phone will restart.
Keep in mind that you will lose your data on your phone like: unsaved phone numbers, installed apps, mp3 (all are in your phone internal memory witch will get erased), those stored on you micro sd flash will not suffer any changes, so save your apps(or download them again), mp3,photos on your micro sd.
If this helps you please give me a thanks.
Hard reset done on one of the two phones, but problem is still there: mp3 player crashes (I've not yet re-installed 3rd party players, but bug is exactly the same as before the reset: mp3 starts playing few seconds, then phone vibrates and music hangs).
Rom on the two phones is JP4.
Also to note an other strange behavior: the phone shows a warning message when launching apps accessing the network (market, browser) to ask to activate mobile data connection... even when the phone is connected through wifi. This was not the case before the froyo update.
I'm not finding all this much normal...
Any further suggestion (I understand last resource is anyway installing Kyrillos rom)?
Thanks

I see. There is something you could do, and that is flashing the Rom again. Use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063940 to get the latest rom and flashing tools and here is the flashing tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778880, i can bet that this will fix your problem. Or you can go to a local samsung service for repair, you do have warranty?

On other forums I found the problem is not uncommon.
Songbird is not exceptional, but does not use the buggy system library and works like a charm.
I've removed the stock app icon just to avoid running it accidentally...
It's a pity not being able to share songs with google music (app is using the buggy lib)
may b sumthin wrong wid sd. backup ur sd data & format it.. via phone.. then restore backed uo data.. & then try if they give fcs anymore.. :/
btw if possible let ur children to talk wid us, they might know better their phone than u .. no disrespect but its true.. :/

Guys I have problem, after reboot my phone can not scan music, photo, and video on external card/MMC. I've tried a few apps but no result, I also tried flashing TTF again with flashtool but same... No result.....:crying:
Someone does anyone have problems like me???
Please help me.....:crying:
Well finally I can see someone with the same "problem" as me.
I had this problem, and still have, from time to time, works like this:
1. Turn phone on.
2. Give it 5 minutes, open Album/Walkman, etc : "No files" (or whatever it says)
3. Reboot.
4. Give it like 10 minutes : works.
I think it's because I have 1000+ pics and some music that it takes time? Otherwise the Media Scanner is messed up in this build (JB), probably. I still have no clue on how to solve this.
Problem Media Scanner Xperia J Jelly Bean.
Thank you, I hope this works well.... I was really dizzy when after I turn off the phone and restart files such as music, photo and video does not exist...... Is there the possibility of also because I wear a regular MMC???
Hi, I'll explain my problem quick. a week ago my Nexus 5 rebooted for no reason, upon rebooting I noticed something weird: app data configurations (app data not belonging to the user accesible memory) were all reset, it was like all apps had been freshly installed but left my pictures music and those things untouched. Wifi was working perfectly fine at this point, some form of data corruption I guess. Upon manually rebooting hoping it would come back to normal I found out wifi was behaving strangely, it would take a couple of seconds to turn on and off. After further reboots it stayed greyed out and didn't respond anymore.
So I began reading about the many possible causes and fixes. Tried reinstalling rom, reflashing kernel, going back to stock through flashing stock images through fastboot, rebooting, different radios. Nothing helped, so I decided to go a bit further and mess with the persist folder, first I checked permissions were ok and reset them anyway, then I wiped manually through a file explorer, finally I decided to do what was suggested here https://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/guide-to-fix-persist-partition-t2821576 with some success. Wifi was still greyed out after a fresh rom install but after some reboots it would pick up and work perfectly, until the next reboot. Then it didn't work anymore. I should note I backed up the files in persist through a file explorer and then manually pasted and set permissions (didn't know you could make an .img file of it) dunno if that has anything to do. They aren't corrupted it seems.
Unplugging the battery briefly fixed it for a day, then the next day the same problem came back without me doing anything.
Some more info:
-I have a working original EFS backup from before it crashed.
-Phone was rooted running CM11 when it happened, been using that rom for 2 years with EX kernel.
-It was a bit low on space (about 400mb left) when it happened, about 300mb were freed after it crashed. I have a hard time believing this could have caused it but maybe?
-It's global D821 16gb version
-GPS has always been wonky (if that has anything to do with it)
-IMEI and IMEID haven't changed.
-Calls and data work fine.
-When either wifi or bt work they show their correct, original addresses, only once wifi showed 02:00:00:00:00:00.
-Rebooting changes little, but powering off then waiting a few seconds and turning it on sometimes brings bt back.
-Leaving the battery unplugged almost fixed it, brought it back for some hours, went to sleep and when I woke up it was gone again.
-When performing the "e2fsck /dev/block/..." command above I wasn't prompted to fix any errors I think, output was "clean, 31/1024 files, 1125/4096 blocks" and the "make_ext4fs /dev/block/..." command reformats it without issue.
So yeah, I've tried everything save baking the mobo cause I'd rather be able to sell a semi working device than a bricked one
Any other thing I could try? Or way to check if it is indeed a hardware issue? im attaching a Liveboot log if it's of any use. Thanks beforehand.
uh I can't find the way to upload the log
how is one supposed to attach a file? im on my desktop with latest chrome
