Torn between the GS4 and HTC One - General Topics

contract time this coming Saturday
my old man is buying my Razr I on Saturday so I have renew my contract
the only UK carrier I will use is Three
so its down to the i9505 GS4 or the HTC One
GS4 has the facts that battery is replaceable, Samsung seem to support their ex flagships longer than HTC, the developer community seems to be better on the Samsungs.
HTC One, much better stock out of the box and the looker of the two, but non replaceable battery and a support long term from HTC does not seem to be as good with ex flagships vs sammy.
decisions decisions decisions

It seems like you got the pros and cons about the phones.
Personaly I'd go with the GS4, if you plan to keep using the phone for a long time, Samsung's are dev friendly. If you're a short term owner like me (switching phones every 4-6 months) give the One a spin and look forward what comes out this winter.

vote one

I suggest the Samsung Galaxy S4. It has a better camera and CPU. It is also bigger and lighter than the HTC One.

AFAIK both are using same hardware (snapdragon 600) only the clock speeds is different gs4 is higher so it get better performance
so if you like htc one with its feature get htc one if you like gs4 with its feature and better performance get a gs 4

I have a S3... and if the S4 is anything like it, I say "meh" to the cheap plastic construction. The aluminum unibody, on the other hand... So. Sexy. So I go for the HTC.

How much can I expect for my XE

I bought my 1st Android, my sensation XE, 6 months ago brand new SIM unlocked free. I came from iPhones.
I love android now, and primarily I came because if screen size.
So now I'm looking and see the One X and the S3, leaning towards the S3, seems a lot of probs on One X.
Mate has a Galaxy Nexus, love the thiness over my XE and the obvious increase in screen size.
But I paid £450 for my XE, how much do people think it would be worth? It's excellent condition, never rooted, beats headphones, it was black back when I.bought it, but bought an official white battery back as well.
I have to get as much as I can really to justify to the missus!
They seem to go for about £180 on Ebay. You'll be lucky to get any more than about £230 if it's in great condition

Suggest me a new Verizon phone?

So it looks like it's RIP for my current Note 2. I also found out I have an upgrade available for Verizon so it's about time I get a new phone. What's a good phone from Verizon you guys recommend? I don't think I'll go for the Note 3 since I want a smaller phone this time around and I honestly don't really care about battery life.

Note 3 would be a bad choice with the Note 4 coming right around the corner, unless you wanted to save money by going with the older model.
Honestly, any of the flagships offered by Verizon will serve you well. Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, Moto X, Droid Ultra/Maxx/Mini, LG G2/G3. They're all good. The LGs and Samsungs have the best cameras. The HTC One is the fanciest when it comes to construction, although the Kevlar of the Droids is pretty nice too. The S5 and G3 will give you the most options with batteries and removable storage. The Moto X can be customized to your likings on Motorola's website.
Go to the Verizon store or mall or Best Buy and fondle them all. Go here and read the reviews of the phones and features they have.

[Q] Will you stay

So now that we know the S6 will not have a removable battery, will you stay anyway?
I know that I will not be sticking around. Based on that fact alone, and the fact the my S4 and S5 have been disappointments, I am making the move to the LG G3. I don't think I will ever be ok with a unit that you cannot pull the battery out of. How much do you think it will cost to replace the battery outside the warranty period?
I'm with you. No removable battery, and no SD card are deal breakers for me. I think there are many like you and I who despise superficial style over substance, function, and repairability.
The Galaxy S6 might as well be an iPhone that runs Android. Most of the reviews trashing Samsung plastic bodies are from iPhone using reviewers.
I will hang on to my S4 Tri-band until it no longer functions. When the time comes for replacement, if LG still makes phones with removable batteries, that is what I will buy.
I'm looking forward to seeing if this is a miscalculation by Samsung. The sales numbers will tell.
I don't find it a need for me to switch from a Note 3, nothing looks worth yet. I'll wait for the Note 5, but we'll see.
Also I'm considering buying an Asus Zenfone 2 to play with, the estimated max 350$ price seems worth it to try.
Better switch to lg g4 when it is released it will be a great device
I thought I might skip the S6 b/c of the no removable battery & no SD card support but I decided to get the S6 Edge when it comes out. Besides my S4, I've been using a Nexus 5 since it first came out and I've gotten used to not having those features. The S6 Edge is just so advanced and good-looking that I'm willing it get it.

Now or wait?

Would you buy s7 now or wait for next S phone? Do they historically come out around Feb?

I would buy one now. In fact, I just did. I got a killer price and accessories are dirt cheap, for the most part. It's still a badass phone with top-notch specs, and probably one of the best deals around. At first release, it was way overpriced compared to the competition. Now? Definitely get it. The S8 will be $400+ more than a S7 when it's released.
This year so far, I went from a Droid Turbo 2 to Note 5 to Moto X to S7 to iPhone 6s to Nexus 6P back to the S7. I played extensively with a HTC 10, Pixel, Moto Z, LG G5 and iPhone 7. Other than the 6P, the S7 has been my favorite phone this year. A close third would be the Moto Z. Unfortunately, the largeness of the Z and 6P killed it for me. Had it or the 6P been a bit smaller, I would have stayed. But, I digress.
I recommend getting a S7. It's a damn good phone.
Thanks. Seems international version going for $500. Think that's a good price new?

Right now I would wait to buy a S8. It'll be out around spring time.
What I look for in a phone is 5.1"-5.5", latest hardware, nice speakers, nice build. Depends on what you have now and if you only want to spend under $500. I see that you are using a Moto X? If you are than definitely get a S7 international exynos version or the AT&T variant can be purchased for under $400 usd nowadays used.
I totally agree with you on that. I've been a huge HTC fan and than got me a AT&T S6 when it first came out than I won a bid for a gently used AT&T s7 for around $400 USD out the door. As a everyday phone and not having root this phone has it all. The size is manageable and perfect for me. I had a LG V10 and that thing was too hard to pocket and also a Nexus 6. The speakers were always a big reason for me to purchase a phone but now I don't really care for that feature.
The S7 is the overall best phone I've owned to this day. It makes a really good daily for any person that doesn't urge to root and flash ROMS. Fast camera, Great bright AMOLED screen, snappy performance, microSD slot plus water proof, WIRELESS CHARGING, bottom speaker gets loud but its not the best. The always on display gimmick is actually really useful and just got updated to look like Note 7's always on. Overall I am pretty happy with the phone.
It would depend on how you feel about your current phone. I switched to S7 because the S6 got poor battery endurance and sluggish.
The S7 has better screen and camera than my previous S5, the UI is about the similar smooth because S5 could be on customized rooted ROMs.
Also, would the money be an issue to you? S7 is estimated $200 to 300 cheaper than the S8.
i just bought the s7 a few days ago after many weeks of doubt (whether i shud get it or not), and i'm very glad i did, this phone is insane (even without root)
my previous phones were xiaomi mi4 & oneplus x, both phones i rooted instantly and flashed hundreds of ROM's, with the S7 i don't feel the need to flash a ROM atm
the display is amazing as well & the battery is good enough for me (getting around 5-6hrs SOT with mixed usage of Wifi/4G, while i havent even had the time to remove the bloatware)

Curious about upgrading my phone

I currently have the HTC U11 and I've had it for 2 years now and I'm thinking about a new phone. I've searched around but I don't see anyone weighing in in my question specifically so I thought I'd ask for some opinions here. I was looking at the S10+ and it's obviously an amazing phone but that price tag is kind of out of what I'm willing to spend on a phone. My question is, would an S9+ be enough if an upgrade from the U11 where I won't really miss the bells and whistles with the S10? I have always had HTC phones and since I'm on Sprint right now and the U12 isn't an option, I was thinking of this route. Any thoughts? Thanks!
S9 Plus can be bought on eBay for about $550 as of this writing. With dual speakers, a camera that's slightly better, and dimensions slightly narrower but a bit taller, it's hard NOT to consider it.

Does your U11 have any issues or you are just bored? Just curious.
