Screen Broken turn on - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

What are your thoughts on this scenario? Won't turn on due to a fall off a bike had this in my pocket.
Based on it not turning on; it doesn't look like that there's major damage to anything except where you see I punched through the bottom; not sure if there's critical components in there. I want to confirm that there's no parts to be replaced before I replacement it.
If not, is there a way to get data off of Internal Storage? I didn't make a backup to external SD card that is as recent as I would like.
Guiding me through what'll probably happen is appreciated in advance very much

Couldn't properly detect device; it sees something and I get a red battery charging light but now it's staying off after a minute or so. Device still shows up in device manager as pictured even though it's making the noises for connecting.
My phone got really hot around the SD card area afterwards even though the phone was clearly off; took out the battery to "reset" anything that was happening.

Lines on Screen, please help

Whenever I turn on my screen, I see lines or a fuzzy gray box flashing across my screen. They go away in less than a second, but I am afraid that my screen is broken. This also happened on my first charge, so I was wondering if the cause could be my battery which I bought on ebay (samsung 1500mah). Also, my new phone almost never connects to 4g even though my old one got full bars.
Please help, I googled my problem and came up with nothing. I still have my first phone, could I send back the same phone they sent me in the box?
Thank you.
What you see on your screen is apparently common for other charge owners myself included. Saw it mentioned as screen "static"in a thread on here somewhere which it can look like sometimes. I don't think it's been associated with any screen issues so I wouldn't trip on it too hard over it. I'll take that quirky behavior with the screen quality!

Ya, this happens to me. kind of looks like you turn on a tv. Pretty cool lol.

EThanks for the replies! I feel a lot better now that I know this is common.
Happens here too. I wouldn't worry about it.

Dropped phone in liquid

So I dropped my phone in a bowl of soup... Yes lmao! But anyways my back cover save it big time, only the top half of my phone when in, I pulled the battery off, sim card and sd card, wipe it and I checked it and both water marks are still white then I put it in a bag with rice. 24 hrs later I put the battery in, it turned on and everything works, except it was showing the headphones icon, I clean out the headphone hole again, turn it off, turn it back on and it was gone, I unroot it just incase it started to act up I could swap it out.( i have insurace) It's been a full day and no issues
OK so my question is should I root it again now or wait to see if something stops working? I think by now something should of been affected already but what do you think?

if you have insurance and won't cost you anything to replace the phone, then use it.
Other than that, rooting or unrooting won't matter on a phone that's been dropped in water.

I'm sure he is asking about the rooting of the phone is cause trying to swap a phone with root/custom rom will not go well for him.

Sorry I guess I didn't make my question clear, what i was really asking was that my phone is working right now, but does my phone run a high risk of something going bad in the next few days or I'm just lucky and nothing broke?
Might be a dumb question but I never had any phone dropped in liquid so I'm not aware if the phone stops working right away or it takes a few days for it to go bad
Don't want to root and then something stops working and I won't be able to flash stock.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I would try to root it, after all it's dry now and everything functions.
Thanks, I wasn't sure if it takes a while for the phone to malfunction or not lol.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
My experience has been if it turns on the next day its all good for many more bowls of soup lol. Or washer and dryer like my olllld bb
Making bad decision's one at a time.
Lmao, I hope it don't happen again lol, but yea everything working good, I haven't tried hdmi output, don't have a cable and I never used it lol, so I'll keep this phone. (rooted of course lol) till some thing else goes wrong, then ill swap it out, thanks for the replies

Phone is hot after rooting

Hello all,
So I'm a noob when it comes to rooting, but I got through it fairly simply on my first go. All I've really done since is disable the annoying wifi available notification in the pull down bar. I've noticed however, that the phone has been getting pretty hot since then. Not sure if this is the right place to post, but any help would be appreciated.
Don't understand why just rooting would do that myself. Are you charging it when it gets hot? I know my old bionic would get wicked hot if i was tethering off of it and charging it. But just charging it along only slightly. It was using massive amounts oof battery, like tethering, while charging that induced the heat.
On the other hand though I still tether 5 or 6 people at a time on my S3 a night while charging and my phone barely gets warm. Pushing almost a gig of data a night. Maybe your battery is getting fried? What apps are you using most when it gets hot?

Was it searching for a signal? If you click on battery under settings then look at the graph....is there a lot of red?
That may have been it. I restarted the phone after bad let it charge that night. Today it hasn't happened to me yet. I'll keep this updated though.

Let me take a wild-arse guess: you're running the VRLHD radio? If so: known problem - it's always hot.
How do I find out?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Settings > About phone > Baseband version. FWIW IDK how well known of a problem this is. I'm running the VRLHD radio and my phone is never hot. Asked a few others who frequent d2vzw discussion and they were also unfamiliar. If you want to know for sure, grab a different radio from invisiblek's modem thread and try that.

help :[ phone wont turn on at all now

i was in recovery and fixed permissons for whatever reason.... and my phone would only boot up to the samsung logo. i was going to do the "HOW-TO unbrick your soft bricked gs3" downloaded everything but now my phone wont turn on at all. it was low battery, but it wont charge now. , to even get it to show a sign of life, i plug my phone into the computer or outlet without the battery, put the battery in and it flashes the battery logo for about 2 seconds, and the loading circle does not spin. then it just goes black.
any idea?

Just let your battery charge for an hour or two. I know there are no signs us charging, but I've seen this a couple times on the threads here and after charging anyways works. Assuming you didn't flash an international ROM

Ya do what kintwofan said, it happened to me once where it seemed like it wasnt charging but it was. If you leave it on the charger for like a hour and it still wont boot then try and boot it into recovery then in that menu goto reboot now.
still 0 power
wow seems like a lot of people are having this issue lately! maybe the mayans were wrong about the world ending and it was samsung s3's that were supposed to perish?
last night my friend had a black screen and had to pull the battery. I've been having issues for months and today my phone is garbage. check my post. =)

Help! Phone in loop rebooting

Hi guys,
I need your help, once again. This afternoon my phone fell on the ground, not from a big height, but it did. As I picked it up it was still working, but I couldn't pick up a phone call I was receiving, so I switched it off. Since then, it's in constant reboot. I tried to pull the battery, but as soon as I put it back in, the loop starts again, without even pushing the power button.
Unfortunately, when I pulled the battery I realized some had craved in, from a previous spill. Not much at all, in fact I was surprised to see it there, but as a fact there was.
I tried to access recovery mod, but with no success.
Thoughts?
Get into download mode and go back to stock.
Could be a problem inside the phone. But you should try going into download mode and go back to stock by using the one click back to stock tool.

No success. As soon as I pop the battery in it starts the loop, so basically I have no time to press volume and then plug the cable in.
If I plug the cable, press volume, and then pop battery in, it goes into a different "battery loop", but still loop.
I can't believe it got damaged for three drops of water...

Try this different method to get into download mode.
Take everything out of the phone (microSD, Battery, and SIM card).
Then hold both volume button up and down and THEN connect it to the cable.
Keep holding the volume buttons and then put the battery in.
It may be hard so you should flip to the back side of the phone and do tht. By doing tht, it will automatically go into download mode.
If that doesnt work it could be a battery problem or the phone is broken :/

Nothing, still goes to a sort of battery charging loop. Damn it...
Can you try to get into download mode without putting the battery in. Just hold the volume buttons and connect it to the cable and see if it goes to download mode. If it does then put battery in. Be careful.

That sucks. :/ Download mode is the only way to fix these kinds of problems. I dont see why you wouldn't be able to get into there. Try looking in other forums to see if it can help you.

I can't believe it... I realize water is lethal to these devices, but that was not much water at all...
I guess I can start looking for a new one. Suggested phones? Nexus 4?
That phone seems nice. As long as you can afford it then it would be great. Just make sure it doesn't contact wit water. Even doe it my seem like tht is a great phone to chose phones arent made to be water proof at this point

Unfortunately I can't really afford it, but now it's hard to go back to a dumb phone. At the same time I'm pissed at how fragile these things are..
Sadly i have nothing to add to this except i have this exact same problem happening to me right now. Now This is the second phone ive ever rooted so you know I'm a newb their. So Can someone shoot me in the direction of stock tar files and what Odin to use.
I believe that is what i need to do yes?
use Odin to (IDK) inject root access with some other programs needed to use custom roms backups etc, also this is doe using a specific file as this is the part of the process where most phones are bricked?
So sorry but for those following this thread I have searched but IDK the best way to go as they change and i want the latest. As when i first rooted this phone I first tried Superoneclick as it was said to be so easy. Well SOC froze on step 3 i think and never finished once so i ended up doing it with Odin which is the way i did it with my SG3 (for some reason way easier to use maybe more devs??) So i am trying ti pimp my mothers phone LOL She is in her 60s but she knows what shes doing lol. Anyway she hated her phone and i told her all she had to do was root it and load a new ROM and your phone will look and act newer. (wanting to save mom money too) This is my situation.
If you read all that i am asking what Odin version i need or better where to get it. Same with the flash file. IDK if any ICS or JB rooted flash files are made or if its better to use stock 2.3.6 (i think) whichever way results in easiest upgrading and how it should be done. I thank you a lot. I am sorry for the thread hijack but i thought it would be better one post here instead another thread (i hope to have found it from you or on my own before that) like i said i search but i cant find i know its their i found it before so idk.
I do know to thank you again and sorry again for the hijack
