[Q] TWRP No OS installed - HTC One SV

So apparently I messed something up and wiped my internal storage and get stuck at the HTC boot screen. TWRP is telling me I have no OS installed and i cant find the right files. I have the boost mobile version K2_CL. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be awesome!

The reason why i asked, the TWRP posted here on xda is not for boost, k2u and k2ul only.
There are other partitions, thats maybe the reason why you deleted your system.
So first, use a recovery that works for boost, look here.

So I use terminal to flash recovery recoverytest.img then boot recovery from fast boot and i get into CWM then install Boost-Disable-WP.zip from sd card, clear cache and reboot right?

Not really, Boost-Disable-WP.zip is not a rom, its a kernel patch.
You only get the recovery from there.
Try this link for rom, but i didn't tested it myself.
If it don't boot try to use this kernel.
Flash recovery in fastboot, then boot into recovery and install the rom from sd card. If you are s-on you need to flash boot.img also with fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
If this won't work, you need to find someone who gives you a backup for your phone.

Make sure you are not plugged into your pc when you boot to recovery! - if that doesn't solve it ..
Does the phone boot to the existing Rom, do you have Rom manager installed? - if so update the recovery from Rom Manager. I found that after rooting the One S using the toolkit I could not get in to recovery, the update from Rom Manager sorted it!
All the best :good:

Had same issue with the tool kit, the cwm didnt stick. The Touch work one did stick and I was able to get into recovery. However I downloaded the app ROM MANAGER and flashed the recovery from there. Since then I've had no issues booting into reocvery or bootloader. Just download rom manager and go about it that way!

Which recoveries have you tried, and what version of phone do you have (S3 or S4). These must match.
Make sure you bootloader unlocked OK, check in bootloader screen, should say Unlocked.
The problem youre describing sound like when you try to boot after successfully flashing a ROM but forgot to or the kernel failed to flash with it. Only happens when ROM and kernel are mismatched enough that it wont boot, fex flashing CM9 and still on HTC original kernel. Try flashing the kernel from the ROM zip file with
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You can also try booting a recovery without installing it,
Code:
fastboot boot nameofrecoveryfile.img

If you have working ADB and fastboot working (there is a sticky by user fibsib that explains this) you can make sure your phone isnt really just trying to boot the OS and failing rather than trying to enter recovery with the command
Code:
adb reboot recovery
But anyways figure out which version you have before doing anything more, flash the wrong stuff and you could break stuff. There are good info here as to how to see if you have the Ville=Z520e=S4 processor model or the Ville C2/Z560e/S3 processor model.
Then download a recovery for your phone model and install it with this command from your computer
Code:
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecoveryyoudownloaded.img
Should work.
have you actually flashed a recovery yet?
which one and how did you do it?
Make sure you have your phone updated to the latest software version before you root. Download system update OTA and click update.
Otherwise you will have issues.
I am rooted T-Mobile phone with original software 1.54 and still can not do recovery or update, it is probably me but it is difficult.
If you are in the US, make sure you use the US version in the development section after you upgrade your phone. Update then try to root it might be easier.

Fastboot boot img

Hello all. Im new to this particular forum. I own a Galaxy Nexus, but I am unlocking/rooting my buddies One S for him. I have gone through the loops already; unlocked the bootloader, rooted, and installed custom recovery (CWM) with no issues. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was a snap compared to his previous HTC Legend. Nightmare.
Anyway, forgive me if this has in fact been answered as I have been searching. After a custom ROM is flashed you still have to flash a boot img via fastboot? I attempted to install CM10 yesterday and get stuck at the HTC boot screen?? Luckily I made a nandroid of the stock ROM and easily reverted. Where do I find the appropriate boot img? Is it just the img that is found in the unpacked ROM? Couldn't find anything pertaining to this in the ROM write up. I know with my Nexus you flash the ROM via recovery and that is it. Strange that you need to also flash the boot img following the ROM flash.
Any help is appreciated.

Hello there, since you installed cwm recovery, you have to flash the boot.img via fastboot, if you have the twrp recovery you may not need to flash it via fastboot, it does it for you if you have an hboot under 1.14 but if its over that hboot your going to have to flash the boot.img for any Rom via fastboot. It still wouldn't hurt to flash the boot.img via fastboot but that's just me, well I hope I helped you and if I did then good, and if you wanna know more just ask...

Its in the rom.zip just extract it. Also look for Flash Image Gui in apps section as enables you too flash a boot.img direct from your phone whilst booted in a rom and will even extract the files for you from the new rom.zip!

Anyway, I found the boot.img in the nandroid backup folder and it's all good now.

Get it thru Goo Manager from PlayStore--

Assistance with Flashing roms please.

My boot loader and phone is rooted.
AT&T Htc one X
I have tried to flash a couple roms + the boot.img but the device pauses at HTC splash screen (I DID clear caches)
but its constant and I have to go into Fastboot-Usb and reinstall the RUU in order to try again.

What rom did you try to flash ? How did you go about it ?
Thank the android gods it wasn't an international ROM.
Did you flash superuser or supersu. We will need a little more information in the steps you've taken. Can you make a list of the steps for us?

ok. i'm not gonna beg if you want help I need DETAILS not vague s***t like "TWRP or whatever".. So evidently you can boot into recovery with no problem. What rom are you trying to flash ? You need to extract the boot.img from the rom.zip and flash that in fastboot and then flash the rom.zip in recovery.
If you're not booting it's most likely because your phone is not finding a kernel (boot.img)
So more details or more reading
Good luck to you

If you wiped everything, you should reflash bootimage in adb. Then flash your ROM. Please be nice.

you'll need to flash at least a new kernel (which is written to the boot partition), and maybe a new ROM. You may also want to flash the newest version of TWRP to your recovery (which is 2.4 now).
So to flash the recovery, you'll want to run this command in fastboot -> fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.4.1.0-evita.img
then boot into your recovery and either use "adb push ROM.zip" or mount the sdcard as removable storage and drag the file from your comp onto your sdcard. Once it is on there, you can flash away (remembering to flash the boot.img if your hboot version is 1.14 or higher).

Skip twrp 4.0 and use 4.1... 4.0 has mounting problems.
.You'll need to install twrp. Youll have to download it from the thread in original dev section. Drop that download in your adb/fastboot folder... right click and choose open cmd prompt here... youll have to google the cmd because i havent used it since may... Enter twrp and mount.
Go to my computer, right click on removable storage and choose format..
You'll need to download a rom on your computer at this point, as formatting takes 20 minutes or so. Personally I recommend the latest viperxl 2.3.1, as this one flashes the boot.img for you so that's one less step you'll have to take.
Once formatted, you should be able to read storage.. so drag the rom into your sdcard. Wipe cache, dalvick, factory reset, system wipe ONLY IN TWRP!!!
you should be good... if not report back but don't do anything crazy.

Need urgent help! Bricked for 2 days already!

I successfully rooted and achieved an unlocked bootloader with S-OFF on my Verizon HTC One M8 and also flashed TWRP 2.7.0.2. I downloaded a rom (without an SD card). I booted into recovery and i made a backup (not noticing that one of the lines read "unable to mount '/system". I then wiped and attempted to flash the rom only to find out that i can't find it in my file system. So i put the rom on an SD card and mounted it and tried to flash it, i get this message:
E: Unable to mount '/system'
E: Unable to open zip file.
Error Flashing zip '/external_sd/Roms?ViperOneM*_1.2.0.zip'
Updating partition details...
E: Unable to mount '/system'
So i'm stuck with a boot loader, an unmountable file system, and unable to flash a rom.
I've tried Fix permissions, I've tried mounting the "system" but all that mounts is 'cache' 'data' and 'micro SDcard'.
I hope my nerves are getting the best of me and i can't see something that's right in front of me!
Edit: Flashed CWM Recovery. Trying to install ROM from SD Card results in "Installation Aborted". When i try to side load it hangs at 81%.
Did you flash TWRP using terminal emulator mode as described on the official website for 2.7.0.2? If so you overwrote the system partition. Try flashing the recovery using the fastboot method as this will put the recovery in the right place. Then boot into the bootloader, choose recovery. I think this will get you TWRP in the recovery partition. Once there try flashing a ROM (although o would suggest something closer to stock like Skyfall).
I think what is happening is since the instructions for flashing TWRP via terminal emulator list the wrong partition, when you boot up to system it seems like you are booting to recovery because TWRP shows up. But you're actually on the system partition so when you try to flash a ROM you get an error because you can't mount the partition you're in.
I'm far from an expert in any of this so anyone who is please correct me.

I did flash TWRP as described. I used Terminal from my Macbook. I did some researching and i did try flashing using the fast boot method. I'm just so stumped!
First of all you aren't bricked. Have you tried using side load to flash the ROM? Try flashing another recovery too.

The above suggestion to try and Sideload the ROM install is a good idea. Basically, put the ROM zip file in your platform-tools folder of adb. Then boot to TWRP recovery, choose "sideload" and then issue the command "adb sideload [filename.zip]" (Instructions are found HERE.)
If that doesn't work, have you tried flashing Clockwork Recovery? You may have better luck with that in regards to mounts and/or flashing the ROM...
There's always USB OTG as well

I found THIS thread (for ASUS Transformer though).
What may have happened (if I'm reading the above thread correctly) is that your /system doesn't exist.
Taking a complete stab at a fix, you may be able to use fastboot to flash a working "system.img" file. (Anyone with more expertise, please confirm or refute this...)
EDIT: Found THIS post in the "Official" TWRP release 2.7.0.0 thread I wonder if perhaps this is what happened to you?

That does seem like it could be the problem. I just flashed CWM recovery instead but it's still the sam problem. Still can't flash a rom, i also tried using sideboot.

You might have to find a factory image, an RUU I am not sure if one exists but it will write the partitions. I think somehow your actual system partition was erased which is why it cannot be mounted. Pretty much, your only hope is an RUU or a zipped factory image.

I wouldn't be able to get that from the system dump located http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2695171 ? Is there any other possible explanation??

no because it is not a flashable zip. Factory image or RUU means the bootloader will literally write the partition. Recovery will mount the partition and write information to it. It cannot create the partition itself which I think is your issue.
Assuming your recovery is fine..this is what I did to fix my self inflicted "soft brick" on Saturday...I mistakenly hit format system instead of just data and cache while trying to start over.
I am running cwm 6047..and for whatever reason the sideload failed with an error trying to sideload flash sky fall.
So I did an adb push skyfall.zip /sdcard/0 and was then able to flash the zip from internal storage.
Hope that helps with your situation.

Yep. You have a bad download. Download a new ROM on your computer...boot to recovery and do a adb sideload or push

Just had a thought... did you flash the insecure Kernel (found HERE) ever? You may not have a writeable /system?
Flash the Kernel, then reflash the official TWRP (both in Fastboot) and see if that works...

Kernel runs inside the rom and the system becomes writeable in the ROM so that won't do anything. I'm pretty convinced he is missing the partition.

Hi did you manage to sort this issue out as i'm having the same issue. it won't install backups or open zip files of the rom's. no matter what i do it won't flash the rom's. i've tried side loading on both cwm and TWRP - as i just said swapped from both recoveries. Managed to mount the sd card and put a new rom on it but won't flash from there and I've tried to move it to internal but fails.
I can't find my stock recovery an a nandroid back up either. Any help would be great
thanks
