[Q] HTC Locked...even with GMail. - HTC Inspire 4G

Phone is locked...can't unlock with my gmail. I'm assuming its because the wi-fi and mobile network are off. How can I unlock it? Also I can't reboot because my volume button doesn't work.

Isn't there a "skip" or something that lets you get into the phone without logging in? To log in though, you need internet. Your phone needs to talk to Google's servers to validate your account.

No, there isn't. Is getting a new phone the only possible solution?

Wait, what? Do you just not have access to internet right now or is the phone's wifi and mobile completely dead? And we are talking about the first boot walk though, right?

I don't understand "no internet at all." If you just don't have access right now, just find your nearest free WiFi hotspot. If your phone's WiFi and mobile data is just broken, and if your phone is stock, yes, you need a new phone.
Have you booted up this phone in the past and logged in before? Or is this the first time that the phone has been logged into? Or has the phone ever been wiped of user data? What has been done to the phone (S-Off, S-On, bootloader unlock)?

I haven't done anything to the phone before and yes it is stock.I turned off the wi-fi and internet before it got locked that's why I have no access to internet.

Here's exactly what happened...
I turned off the wi-fi and internet on my phone and while I was showering my sister tried unlocking my phone. She did it to the point that I had to put in my gmail stuff and when I did it just kept saying either the username or password were incorrect. So after I went on my computer to make sure my gmail stuff was correct and it is correct.
Now I was hopping there was some way of unlocking it without doing the reboot because the volume button doesn't work...so the reboot was never really an option in the first place.

OK, now I get it; maybe start with that amount of descriptiveness in the future to avoid wasting time. You can reboot with ADB. But I have no idea if that lets you unlock the phone.

What are you people talking about..
Can't you take out the battery and power off the phone..
Or just flash the rom again..

I usually like proper reboots instead of forced ones...probably a leftover Windows thing, since Windows gets upset when it's forced to reboot. But you're right, I dont think Android cares.

I mean I guess...I don't think you can cook milk though.Just heat it up...
Anyways...my issue at hand is not being able to unlock my phone.
I had a pattern lock then my sister started trying to unlock it because she thinks she knows everything. She obviously didn't know my password...so then the gmail log-in pops up and I put it in but it says incorrect password or username. Both my password and username are correct though because I logged in through a computer. So my assumption is that it doesn't recognize my gmail log-in because I turned off my mobile network and the wi-fi.
More clarification?

I think we already determined that you can try rebooting, either with ADB or by pulling the battery.

Let me guess, you have not rooted your phone yet..
So, you CAN'T use ADB to reboot
Also, you have not tried removing the battery.
Only thing is take out the battery and put it back. POWER ON and you will come back to lockscreen..
I assume you know the correct pattern to unlock it..
Well, in most of the phones , it gives a 30 second time-out after too many wrong attempts..
@MODERATORS PLEASE CLOSE THE THREAD AS THERE IS NOTHING MUCH GOING ON HERE AND ALL THINGS GOING ON HERE CAN BE EVEN GOOGLED ON INTERNET..!:good:

1. You don't need root to use ADB. You just need to have it enabled.
2. If you truly want moderators to see something use the report feature; they can't be expected to read every "@MODERATOR" post.
3. You're being a little patronizing, don't you think?

I dont think so, I think you have to have a bootloader waiting for the rom.
other option would be JTAG it, i dont think anybody has done it so far, you need a hardware guy to figure out where the jtag points are on the phone board for that.

heh i literally described it.
I just took the battery out, to make sure it was powered down. did the keys for boot loader, and just trusted it would make the connection.
had to try a few times, and its been a while since i did it - but as i recall i told the bastard flash on the computer and walked away, and the next time i got bootloader, so i turned it off and let it charge, then back to bootloader and flash and i was fine.
now for me i had flashed a gsm on cdma iirc and ive no idea why the above worked at all. Likely the flash was corrupted on the way in or something, but its been so long there's no way to remember enough details to see if its even something that's been observed in that state and sequence of events.
Code:
and for you lazy ppl - this board doesnt do multiquoting correctly, as they went lateral [more in a chain - good] but left out depth [how many sam quoted lucy quoted billy levels can we get]
so if your curious here's something for how to manually multiquote:
when your the third in the chain, you have to go to the quoted post and push quote copy and paste that. then go to the post you WANTED to quote, and right where the writing starts paste away:

Remote task29 as security

Hi Guys
Is there a application that could execute a remote task29 if phone gets stolen?
Most of theves are dump so would not know how to put the OS back on.
The normal way of IMEI blocking does not work, some networks will not care to block, some will not communicate to others so it will be blocked for example on O2 but not t-mobile... We all also know that you just need to sell a IMEI blocked unit abroad.
Two functions would need to be present:
Function 1 a remote wipe so you send a txt message.
Function 2 is to wipe the phone if new sim is inserted and password is not provided. Such software would need to be able to cook itself in to rom.
Second possibility for Function 2 is each time new sim is inserted a txt message is sent on pre-arranged mobile number and then use remote wipe.
lookout mobile security has that feature of remote wipe.
www.mylookout.com
antivirus, remote wipe, and gps locator all work.

It is not even remotely the same as even if you do wipe the device it is still usable, there is just you data erased. I am talking OS erased so phone does not work, so you can get it to bootloader and only if you know how.

I am not a software developer but I would say a app that works just before OS boots.
TBH task29 seems like the best idea as if you were to get the phone back you could get it back online but any app that would brick the phone remotely is what one needs.
I am quite certain something like that could be done.
why not have it flash a bricking radio from sd card or within the rom, if the command is send?
how about an app then makes the phone transform into a plane and fly back to you?
its impossible what you are asking for afaik

Bolox I can flash radio or OS from SD card. All a app would need to do is get phone to bootloader on command and have, as suggested, a bricked rom for radio on SD card. A bricked radio rom would not need to be big in size so a cab installer would work.
Its a very good idea, hope some1 can do it..
my hats off to you sir, a very good idea!
Now if there is only a developer skilled enough to realise it!

Might be so, but if knowledge gets around that more and more phones can (and will) be bricked remotely once stolen, why steal?
I think it would be a very useful feature on any phone.
So I agree with the question for such an app.

Well why do you fit a alarm on a car when it is gone it is gone, why do you put alarm in a house when they come they come.
Something odd with this statement. Why would you think it is ok for some one who stole my phone to use it when I had to work for it?
For me best solution would be to have it wired with C4 and 5s in to first phone call boom!!!
As that would be illegal second option brick the phone.

Since when does a car alarm or home alarm burn down my house or car? That is essentially the same thing. If someone breaks into my house and steals my 60" dlp, I can't remote detonate it either.
I'm guessing that I don't understand. Maybe it is my long history with cdma phones that had esn's that could be blocked making the phones worthless (usually) once stolen.
Ill build it .... i just need a few beta testers?
Any takers?
jk.. i actually like the idea of disabling my phone if i knew it was gone for sure. .but i dont think i would be comfortable running around with this bomb in my phone unless i knew how to fix it.. and a bricked radio (easiest remote detonate solution) is obviously unfixable.
you know I was hoping this topic was headed in a different direction. like the phone company or microsoft running ras commands. like injecting and changing your files around so when you go to flash the seed will be planted for later execution. but dude if your phone gets stolen beat the punk bastards ass. or make sure you have handset protection. stupid topic. its just gonna add to the bricked my phone posts but not before they go on a couple of paragraphs of how they know what there doing but this and but that. wow then its gonna keep spreading like a ****ing plauge of dumb ass questions instead of keeping their cocksucker shut and read and learn. if your not f-ing it up, then your not learning.
i remember the sony ericsson p910, p990, and p1i could have set a sim password that works the same way the bios password works on most laptops with this feature... once the sim changed or the phone is flashed, the password must be entered to boot into the OS, personally i think this should be standard on every mobile OS...
and regardless how much times you reinstall windows, flash the bios, or remove the bios battery, the password remains, kinda annoying but at least it works
There are already some really good apps available for if your phone is lost or stolen. I don't know the names off the top of my head but I did some help on development on one 2 years ago and it was quite advanced and will send you silent text containing the new IME number if changed and the GPS location. Rendering the phone useless would be stupid in my opinion if you intend on retrieving it. let the security software do it's job and be happy to get your phone back.

[Q] Is That Possible (About an android phone)

Hello. I'm a little paranoid here. Please help me.
I was trying to update my Samsung Galaxy mini (s5570) with kies. Electricity went off while "downloading" image was on the screen. I panicked and remove phone's battery and make it off. (I don't know why)
Since then I have black screen. I can't get into recovery mode etc. But when I plug in the phone, pc sees it. Kies fails repairing it.
Phone has a 7digit screen lock and avast anti theft installed. If I gave it somebody to repair, can he repair and read the smses inside it? The data on the phone is not important to lose, but I don't want somebody read my sms. Is it possible?

Anti theft apps really dont work if someone knows what they are doing. If the computer can see it then it is possible to pull the info from the phone. It will not be easy but it can be done. Passwords have no use unless the phone is on.

The only way to wipe it is to flash new software to it. Think of it like a PC hard drive. As long as it has not been over written then the info can be recovered but if it get over written then it is gone. To be honest you have little to no worry as to do what you are afraid of would take way too much time for a repair shop to even deal with.

Unless he is an Android/Linux hardcore developer you have nothing to worry about. Even Then it would take him a week or more to do it.
No, it won't be possible. The only way to fix it would be to get a stock image on the device through either Jtag or odin. Once that is done, it will be clean slate and without you signing into your Google account, their will be no indication that the phone was ever yours...

SERIOUS WARNING! Multiuser mode can cost all your data!

I don't even know who to blame...
I setup another user so my girlfriend could use my tablet too.
Today when I came home she tells me the tablet went off, she claims she plugged in the power and it came back.
Then she click "yes or something" and...
Yep now all my data is gone. It seems she completely reset the tablet. I don't even know how she got there...
How could that even happen? It crashes a lot when switching between users but it never got into some mode where you can select to erase all ****.
I'm seriously mad at the moment.
I can only warn everyone to use this feature. I lost some data (photos and such) which I unfortunately did not backup yet. (my fault -.-)

Well it doesn't sound like a feature to me. It sounds like she wiped your data (either in the bootloader or recovery or something else) and when it gave her a warning she clicked yes.
Who knows?
I say dump her
I can only blame her for clicking "yes" when she had no idea what it meant.
But seriously how can the tablet get in such a security critical state without any further action?
She definitely does not know how to get into bootloader or recovery.
That damn multi user **** ... I should have just left that stuff alone. It crashes every time I switched the users.

And I can't even recover the data cause of this damn stupid connection mode of ASUS.

Yep, I know that tutorial you can find here to recover files. But you have to root and everything. And as I'm still in my warranty I'd like to prevent that -.-

I have a profile for my wife and have never had any problems but it's true that I've always told not to answer if you do not know what you're talking about the tablet and never has.
But it is difficult to come by chance in recovery....... and I think the developers of TWRP and CWM could perhaps enable password for wipe, it might be interesting to avoid situations like this.

If it is only root you need to use that app (of which I know nothing), rooting will not affect your warranty at all. As long a you don't unlock the tablet, your warranty is a-ok.

Well it doesn't sound like a feature to me. It sounds like she wiped your data (either in the bootloader or recovery or something else) and when it gave her a warning she clicked yes.
Who knows?
I say dump her

DarsVaeda, I second that, but you should post a picture of her here and we will help you to decide whether to dump her or dump the stupid Transformer...
I decided not to do any fancy stuff and just wipe everything and start over. And I'll stay away from setting up another user.
I still have no idea how she could reset the whole tablet...
I don't even have an idea how to get into recovery or the bootloader. Is it even possible without unlocking?
My best bet is still it is a very serious bug, even if only occuring in very strange situations.

S8+ How do i enable pin before powering down my phone?

Dear XDA users ,
Is there a way to enable this?
basically before powering off or restarting my phone i want it to prompt the pin before actually executing the restart/shutdown
Hi
Usual it promp when you try to reboot before your phone is unlock .
No such thing as pin before powering down, you'd probably need root and some script to enable that.

Even if there was a way to enable something like that there is still a hard restart that is independent from software, so it's pointless.

Not true. I have PIN screenlock set up. And if I try to power down or restart without first unlocking the screen, it prompts me for my PIN. Stock, unrooted.

As I said, it SHOULD prompt you for your pin if you try to shut it down without unlocking the phone. At least that's how it works on the T-Mobile and Unlocked firmware.
Not on my phone.

Canadian bell firmware, not sure why they would disable a security feature.

I have T-Mobile. Verizon here in the States disables silly stuff all the time.

Yes, that's just your normal screenlock. Everyone has that.
But what OP is asking if you are already at your home screen, and try to power down, it prompts for a PIN. That doesn't exists on our phones.

He didnt specify that he wanted that to occur from the homescreen. He just said he wanted it to prompt for a PIN or PW before shutting down or restarting. Which, again, mine does that if I have not already unlocked my phone. Without him clarifying, you cant assume he definitely meant from an already unlocked homescreen.
And it doesn't appear everyone has this, as at least one person in this thread said that isn't an option at all on his phone, and another said he somehow lost the option. I also remember a very similar thread a few weeks ago (either here or in the Note 8 forums) where someone was asking the same thing, becua se no matter what locked unlocked state their phone was in, it would not prompt for a PIN before shut down.
So again to me, it appears maybe some carriers disable this feature.
