Ink Effect - Galaxy S 4 Themes and Apps

Hello!
I have seen a nice Ink Effect on Youtube. It is from the Samsung NoteII.
Is it possible to convert this nice feature to our Samsung S4?
Here is the Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdQ7aCzG9zk
Greetings Hollux

Its already in 9505

it gives a hidden menu on S4 which u can find over a Shortcut app from the Market. In this hidden Menu u can choose the color of the effect, but it doesent work, i tried it few times.
It could be possible that u need a pen for this for working, but im not sure. Can some one test it with a pen for the S4?
When some needs help to find the hidden menu, let me know i will post it than later, now its too late and i must sleep.

S4 doesn't have a sensor for the pen, so if it works, it works without pen

seems to be a little bit tricky which this guide and im not so safe in editing such files from may S4.
I think there must be an easy way to get, cause the color menu exist on the phone just hidden, so i think it would be only needet to unlock the mode for color like in on part of the guide.
Would be awesome when some could create something flashable.
btw., here the way to the hidden menu:
get QuickShortCutMaker from google play than Search under Settings for this :
com.android.settings/com.android.settings.InkeffectPreview
it give it twice one for smartphone one for tablet in window mode. Hope someone can work with it.

|Mod| GE home button lag removal aosp tw based roms

Hello have you been tired of that stupid lag on the Google edition when pressing the home button? There's no way to disable the double tap home to open recent apps so the ui will always studder to wait if you double tap. Everything still functions perfect. Flash via recovery and viola the lag is gone:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
100% working tested on all GE ROMs
androidfilehost/?fid=23050663588003995
Please add the .com after androidfilehost and go to the URL XDA won't let me upload URLs
Just flashed this and i got the SIM-unlock problem on my GE based Null ROM. Restored it back the way it was and it's gone
Don't flash if you have Null ROM.
Within the GE rom there is a very easy framework-res/bools edit for those that know apktool. But then you either need another method to access the recents panel or enable the navbar (that is my favorite method, easy to enable by the bools too). The downside is that this must be built for each rom, and every version that framework-res is modified. Then you get a domino effect of now you now have active capacitive buttons and a navbar which can be frustrating. Disable those within the /system/usr/keylayout/sec_touchkey.kl. Then you still have the button back lights . . there is an app over in the tmo gs4 section for that.
Any possibility to port this mod on samsung stock based roms? Or to found an "how to"? I search in xda sections but i found nothing..
S Voice is the problem!

[APP] Screen Off Memo [Update: 21 Sept 2015]

It's been a while but here is another app I would like to share with those still using the Note 3 like me while waiting for the Note 6 perhaps.
Screen Off Memo is a feature I like on the Note 5 and so I decided to make one for my Note 3. I have not held a Note 5 yet so I don't know how the screen off memo works except what I saw on video reviews so the app may not be as perfect but it works for what I need it for. Any feedback would be welcome.
UPDATE - 21 Sept 2015
- fixed some issues with spen detachment starting the app even when unlocked
- toned the brightness of the icons as well as the pen strokes to reduce glare and offer more readability
- fixed issue with pen thickness in the v1.2 (some users like it thicker - I might include some settings to set user prefs in the future)
- adding new notes will trigger separate notification
Hopefully the issue specially on the Note 4/Edge has been solved.
Screen Off Memo version 1.3 can be downloaded below.
Install and RUN at least once from the app drawer so the app will be registered for the broadcast action when spen is detached. To enable the app to lock the screen when spen is attached, you must activate/enable it in Settings>Security>Device Administrator.
Based on user feedback I have retained the simplicity of the app. Just added ability to add new memo. Changed some icons for simpler ones. Cleaned up the code a bit to make it run faster and as little footprint as possible. Added option to turn off screen when pen is attached. And of course, it would now run on most Note devices (API 19 & above).
The app would also run on other Galaxy devices without spen but only when launched from the app drawer. But I am trying to find a way to trigger on the lockscreen maybe via a floating button but still a work in progress. I may work on it if there is demand but otherwise might just focus on the Note series.
At the moment I am testing an immersive mode version where no virtual buttons on the screen... just a whole screen of black space to doodle on and using sensors to toggle pen and eraser or the toolbar. Still a work in progress though but we'll see....
Anyway have fun and still your suggestions are welcome. But please keep the thread on topic.
It is a free app but please don't redistribute it nor modify it for redistribution. I don't mind if you include it in a ROM as long as the info page is intact.
Credits: BIG THANKS to @and2, @swiss420 and some others I don't know their xda usernames for their support.
Installed it on my note 3 but it just crashes when tried to open app.
If you're trying to make it work like note 5 then it should work when you pull your s-pen out while the screen is off.
And you can start writing on the screen and save it to memo app or note app.
Tried this app but it didn't work will wait to try it out if updated to new version. I don't know how to give you crash log. Sorry.
Nice Try @xperiacle
Edit - I got it working by changing my model number in build.prop SM-N9005

One issue I have is that when I try to reach that note in S Note, I have to pull it down, open in action memo, and then click the S Note icon on the bottom right part of action memo to open it in S Note. Is it possible to make it simpler, so that just clicking in S Note would open it in S Note?
@xperiacle I missed your genius mate. Thank you. Just a question is it possible to start the app while the screen is off or don´t i just find it? Or because i use the Note 5 Air Command?
Do you have a bit more time now? I think i´ll buy a Note Edge and wait for the Note 7 maybe there is again a sd card slot and i wanne play with the edge.

I agree, but when I write to full screen in this app, in action memo I can't see the whole text/image I have drawn in this app, I see it in a window only.
Suggestion, would that be possible to prevent the screen to wake up when the S pen is dettached and re-attached back? Like in this video [emoji14]

I think the Screen Off Memo of the Note 5 does not actually mean the screen is off. It is ON but samsung designed the screen off memo app to run before the lockscreen shows up and on exit turns the screen off at the same time. We get the impression that it is off because of the black theme used which is true black on amoled screens. Samsung can do this because it can tweak framework/system code the way it likes and since it is a system app it has almost all the system level permissions to control the device lockscreen. My Screen Off Memo app does not have the system level access to control lockscreen waking up or turning off so to answer your question, NO I don't think it is possible for the app to run with screen actually off.
I also made a clone of the Note 5 Air Command with more shortcuts but I am still polishing it. Will share when I am satisfied with it.
In case you get the Note Edge, I made some edge panel apps that I have not released yet. Just let me know and I will send them to you.

Well saving and opening it directly in Snote app is possible. I am not sure how many users would want the app to behave that way but depending on the number of feedback then I might do it that way in the next update.

Great job.
This is just perfect (at least for me).
You should release a complete blur theme.

About the slow I haven't, and sound strange that you have exiting from appdrawer. About the glitch can depend on statusbar from your screen seems that the blur is present at the back of status bar. Consider that I worked to have blur under the bars...

Trying to understand for help you.
In the guide I've inserted the part fix bars because without it I haven't blur under the bars so with this I enlarge blur under the 2 bars. Have you make also this part on your phone?
How can you open app drawer? Consider that I can open just from desktop so this mod don't need to be real time like blur on notification expanded that I've make. Check this guide too for better understand what I mean

Also noted that if i open the app drawer from desktop and open a app like whatsapp, after closing and returned to app drawer then my background changed to whatsapp last page while closing.. After removing whatsapp from recents my normal wallpaper returned to app drawer..
Have you tried with the fix bar part?

NAVBAR - deodexed Nougat roms how to get pixel style keys visible on any background

Warning: for deodexed roms only – if you are running an odex rom, you previously have to delete the full content of /system/priv-app/SystemUI/ folder
Here is a small tutorial for those who want to use touchwiz nougat roms with on screen keys aka navbar and want to see the keys both when the navbar background is dark or white.
Actually, it is my own design in pixel style to get visible keys in any condition., you can find a screenshot here https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/themes/navbar-s7-edge-nougat-t3572377/page2
Not a great work, just some files in .pio format to be replaced into systemUI.apk….
Well, tbh, I just edited the original .png files from pixel, added a black contour and renamed them as .pio, but I see that everybody is keeping their own knowledge quie secret nowadays lol
First of all, you obviously have got to add
qemu.hw.mainkeys = 0
to you build.prop
Then you might go to /system/usr/kelayout/
and edit
Generic.kl
by commenting key 158 BACK which turns into # key 158 BACK
and key 254 APP_SWITCH wich will become # key 254 APP_SWITCH
These comments will disable back and recents hardware keys, while it is strongly advisable to let the home key fully functional.
You might disable button lights as well, but this feature is implemented in most roms and you can even find an app in the play store (it can be made even through software, but it’d be a waste of time).
Now you can take the systemUI.apk alleged to this post and replace with it to the current one inside /system/priv-app/SystemUI/
You have to set the correct permissions, of course, and reboot,
This file should work for any touchwiz nougat rom.
It is a generic deodexed file and systemUI.apk has been the same since the first release (according to the changelogs I have seen so far).
If your rom has got a modded systemUI with its own features, you will loose them, so I also attach a zip which includes the modded .pio files. You can add them inside systemUI.apk even without using apktool, you just have to:
- rename systemUI.apk as systemUI.zip;
- open the zip, go to /res//drawable/xxhdpi-v4
- overwrite the existing files with the one I supplied;
- rename back systemUI.zip to systemUI.apk
and then you can use your new systemUI with my files.
Now you might see that the touchwiz launcher is a mess and there is a huge room between the dock and the workspace… Well, the matter is that, once you activate the navbar, the launcher detects the wrong dpi… I tried to mod it, but I wasn’t able to fix it. So a couple of days ago I found an easy work-around.
It has got a caveat: it breaks Samsung pay and Android Pay or at least ot should. I am not sure, because I don’t use such services. I posted that workaround in Echoerom forum, but I haven’t had yet any feedback, so just try.
Here is the workaround:
- open the terminal;
- type su
- type wm density 500 && reboot
Once you reboot, the launcher will be ok.
To revert;
- open terminal
- type su
- type wm size reset && reboot
I also attach a modded pixel launcher (to be place in /system/app) which works better than the touchwiz one and doesn’t need any modification to wm density
.
Credits:
- an xda guy who some time ago posted somewhere a tutorial about wm density… Please gimme the link, if you find it
- people from Echoerom forum and Kyri the most since they let me tinker with my phone after a long time

Could u, please, be so kind and release a modded nougat SystemUI with matching colours and original TW navbar buttons? And could u also add the S8 clock mod to It?
I guess it's that what many people are searching for atm.... Colour matching S8 navbar buttons and the modded S8 clock in SystemUi. Would be nice if u could so that!

Thanks for ur time!
Well, I am not a themer, but I might have an idea to get the stock Samsung keys visible.... I will have a look, though I prefer pixel's style ones.
It will be a trick, because I don't even know how S8 keys will behave.... A real mod would require to mess with styles and it's not my cup of tea, tbh. I know what to do, but I am not very skilled with gimp, so it could take a bit of time.
Regarding the clock I don't know, it doesn't look like a very difficult mod and there are a lot of themers/modders much more skilled than me who will release such mod in a eye glimpse
Update: I have extracted Samsung's stock keys and converted from pio to png...Now I can try to edit them

Thanks mate, ofc I understand what you mean. I´m trying to fix the S8 keys for thousend of hours already and no success till yet. I know it can´t be much, but without skills.
Even the clock stole me more then 10 hours yet, don´t know why I´m not able to recompile my SystemUI files. It always fail, no matter if I try with "apk editor app" nor on Windows, always hanging on the recompiling step. I mean I done the whole thing in 2 minutes, but can`t recompile it. :silly:
Anyways thanks for time and effort.

In order to decompile SystemUI you have got to use an updated version of apktool. There is a very good thread in xda.
You have to decompile and recompile using the two frameworks and keep the original signature. It will take some time to learn how to use it, but it can't be done with the phone, sorry.
@lucaoldb
Any idea to swap the back and recent buttons? Thanks.

I think that, once the dump of the s8 firmware leaks, we will have a fully working systemui with the inbuilt option to swap on screen keys.
Apart from that fact, it doesn't look so easy to swap such keys with this systemui. I had a look at navbar.xml (or something like that) and to navbar tuner (or something like that) and they don't look like I expected. I am not a pro coder, but imho some smali editing is required and it is not my cup of tea and, to be true, on screen keys cause some glitches.... Look at the close all button in recents or try to swipe an edge while aod is on...
Getting a perfect integration with the current touchwiz would take a lot of time and I think that's why the guys who could manage to do it are quiet
Anyway thanks again. Hope to see a inbuilt option.

how to turn off backlight with software? is it through editing the sys/class/leds folder?
With terminal
su
settings put system button_key_light 0
It disables capacitive keys backlight.

Yes, echoerom.
It works even with adb and without root (which is instead required when you use the terminal emulator).

I already got that overlay but got grey issue. Is there anyway to solve it and be permanently white always? And black when on white background?
I think it's for now the only one solution.
What you mean with the grey issue?

Ruthless Launcher

I am not the developer of this app but I just wanted to create a post here and share it with other z fold 2 owners.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=shubh.ruthless
This by far best launcher for z fold 2 if u want pixel launcher and scalable rows/columns. I included some pictures of launcher, check it out if you on z fold and miss pixel.
Thanks for the recommendation. I keep things rather simple and this has made it relatively painless.

No problem man. The developer for this App is awesome guy. I had some recommendations for app and z fold such as scaling lower incremental percentage and he's already adding into app. He's also looking into android r/11 launcher3 so may make fold experience better soon too.

How did you install Nexa icons package? I can't find a way to install it within the system settings. Please let me know. :crying:
I want to install the icons without a third-party launcher. Is this even possible? I did this in the past with my Oneplus phone.

If you have images of the icons you can use the app Awesome Icons to change them. I changed a lot of them without any launcher.

Thanks!
Does this support a different configuration for cover and main screen?
It is possible in the next update to make these 3 additions:
1) To be able to edit / delete app categories.
2) On the At Glance Widget, in addition to the date, you can also view the time and maybe even the next alarm.
3) To be able to set the app drawer horizontally to be able to move in the app pages from left to right and vice versa as well as from top to bottom.
