I couldnt restore it, any help? I will provide more detail if asked. I just want to restore it to stock

Please someone help me ;( I just want to get back to stock.

Did you factory reset in bootloader?
Sent from my Evita

SD has been corrupted. Possibly because you did a factory reset in bootloader (known bug) as mentioned in the previous reply.
Plug the device into a Windows PC, go to device manager and format the SD. Then mount the SD in TWRP and move a ROM to the device, and flash.

Also don't forget if you are S-ON that you should flash the boot.img manually after you flash a new ROM. I use TN_WIN_Boot_Installer to ease this task.

What's hard about "fastboot flash boot boot.img" to begin with.... Using tools only adds risk

Assistance with Flashing roms please.

My boot loader and phone is rooted.
AT&T Htc one X
I have tried to flash a couple roms + the boot.img but the device pauses at HTC splash screen (I DID clear caches)
but its constant and I have to go into Fastboot-Usb and reinstall the RUU in order to try again.
Does anyone have any ideas?

My bootloader is unlocked and my phone is rooted*
And I used TWRP or what ever its called. I can root fine and ez from it Trying to get Viperxl

did you flash a recovery yet and if so which one ? if you want help you need to give us some details ?
What rom did you try to flash ? How did you go about it ?
Thank the android gods it wasn't an international ROM.
Did you flash superuser or supersu. We will need a little more information in the steps you've taken. Can you make a list of the steps for us?
The link crappyvate sent is a great tool for help.

ok. i'm not gonna beg if you want help I need DETAILS not vague s***t like "TWRP or whatever".. So evidently you can boot into recovery with no problem. What rom are you trying to flash ? You need to extract the boot.img from the rom.zip and flash that in fastboot and then flash the rom.zip in recovery.
If you're not booting it's most likely because your phone is not finding a kernel (boot.img)
So more details or more reading
Good luck to you

If you wiped everything, you should reflash bootimage in adb. Then flash your ROM. Please be nice.

[Q] Unable to Mount SD/No OS

I am at a loss here...I tried installing a new ROM and flashed the boot.img and everything was going good until I tried to Restore my original ROM and came back with an error that the storage/sd card count not be mounted in TWRP. So, I can get into Recovery and Bootloader, but from there I cant get anywhere because I have no OS installed now, and cannot mount the sd card in Recovery.
This is messy, I dont believe I bricked my phone, but I'm stuck. Any help would be appreciated. Please let me know if you need additional info.
I did this once and had to format sd on my pc in windows then recovery saw my sd
Allso if that don't work u could ruu to stock and start all over
asnolid Leven
Yes, it was helpful in that I have hope. I attempted to install the RUU through the boot loader and came up with an Error boot loader version error. Again, i have an AT&T One XL and I tried to install both the 1.73 and 1.85 RUUs with no luck. It hangs on the signature steps. Any advice? Thank you again, you guys are brilliant!
Never factory reset in bootloader. You need to boot in twrp and mount sd. Right click on removable storage, format sd. Drag Rom onto sd when its done. Extract boot.img on comp and drop it in adb/fastboot folder. Flash entire Rom in twrp. Boot into bootloader immediately. Choose fastboot. Right click adb/fastboot folder, open cmd prompt here.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Success, reboot system

I'm afraid I am "Relocked" and have a "Security Warning" when in Bootloader. I'll try to mount through Windows and format (assuming FAT32) and see where that takes us. Thank you.
No luck, after trying to install the RUU I have no more TWRP...I'm sorry for all of this, but there has to be a solution, I feel that I'm close and my only option at this point is to completely restore the phone to stock and start over.
Ya with no twrp now your only bet is from a pc that sucks hope u get it ruued wish I could help but I havent used ruu yet
I found a 2.20 RUU and it worked! I'm back at stock soon to unlock and get back to a real android experience! I'm officially a heart attach survivor!

Relock the bootloader, or re-install the HTC drivers. Also try a different USB port. RUU fail is almost always one of these reasons (or wrong RUU).
Or just try to plug the phone into your computer and format the SD, as already discussed on this thread.

Of course you have no more TWRP after running the RUU. RUU re-installs stock recovery.
Can I format the SD even if I can't mount the SD? How would I go about doing that? I can mount system or cache... And what should I format as, FAT23 or something else? Thanks in advance.
How could I relock it? ADB doesn't seem to see it.

Even though it can't be mounted, it should still show up in Windows as new hardware. Select it and format it FAT32.

It either sees it or it doesn't. Saying it doesn't "seem" to see it is not helpful. Type "adb devices" (no quotes) and you will either see it listed as an attached device or not.
If it doesn't see the device, you can't relock, and its probably a driver issue. Re-install the HTC drivers, and also try a different USB port.
Will try that and update this. Thanks for the hand up.
Got it running. Thanks a million.

AT&T Htc One X - Bricked and need advice

One of my friends BRICK his phone and he has no idea how. He has a rooted HTC ONE X on AT&T network with Viper XL (Not even sure what version of the ROM) probably from last december.
It is now stuck on the Booting animation screen and won't get passed that. I am able to access TWRP recovery, but there is not zip files or backups any longer. When I originally flashed this phone for him I had a zip file on the root of the internal SD CARD. It no longer is there and i have not rooted/flashed a phone for almost a year and can't remember.
I tried to fastboot oem lock and it fails (was thinking i could some how get it to boot and install stock jelly bean)
I am able to mount the SD card via TWRP and throw a rom in there via zip, but when i unmount i and go to restore or install i do not see any zip. When I mount again the file i put in the phone no longer exists.
Is there a work around or another way to flash any custom room. I was thinking of CM10 nightly evita... I don't care what rom as long as i can get the phone working again for him.
Is there a way to flash a rom the way we flash boot.img via fastboot where the files can reside on the PC and not the phone? Any assistance/tips would be great. Again i don't care which rom I flash and i have TWRP recovery access. Currently i have CM10 downloaded if hat helps. Thank you in advanced
Is there anything showing up on the sd card at all in TWRP? You could try formatting the sd card in Windows and trying to move a ROM over again.

Im able to see folders and stuff like the typical android folders. So you are saying i should mount the SD card/try to format the sd card via windows then try to put a zip file in there to see if i can access it? Question.. All i would need to do is flash the boot.img first via fastboot then install the zip via twrp right?
Yeah that's what I mean. Most people flash the boot.img afterwards but I believe you can do it before flashing the ROM.

Weird i get the same results as before. I formatted the SD card via fat32, through the zip in there, then I unmount the sd card so i can get back to twrp menus to install and android folders are back, but no zip. I am able to successfully copy the cm10 zip there so i don't get it.
Which version of TWRP are you using? And what process are you following when wiping before the flash?
Sent from my Evita
Sounds similar to what happened to me when i did factory reset in bootloader. Others seem to be able to just format in pc and have it work in recovery but it didn't work for me so i just ruu'd to fix it. Since it might have been awhile since you setup his phone you might as well s-off the phone then run latest jb ruu so you have flash latest cm10.1 nightlies which also no longer needs touchscreen downgrade. Afterwards flash latest twrp 2.6.0.0 and copy rom of choice to sdcard and flash.

Yeah that's my best guess. It does seem odd that you can still view the Android folders from within recovery though. When you copy something from your pc across does it definitely succeed? I had a wild thought earlier that maybe it had been formatted as read only or something like that.

Yeah it successfully completes and I am able to see the file there. Even if i remove the USB cable without unmounting and then plug it back the file is still there. It's when I unmount from TWRP when it then vanishs. I found the article from the guy who wrote a tutorial on how to fix corrupted SD cards, but the link is now broken and no longer exists, doh!

Download it from here. Put it in your fastboot folder. Issue these fastboot commands:
fastboot flash recovery "recovery.img"
(whatever the exact filename is, minus the talking marks)
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can enter recovery from your phone screen.

[Q] AT&T One X Stuck In Endless Bootloop after Stock RUU Flash

Hi All,
I know this might sound like a redundant topic to you all (since there are many discussions about this on here) but after having gone to MANY threads on forums, MANY different websites and trying MANY different things to correct this, to no avail, i'm still stuck!!! :crying:
I am on Evita...running:
S-ON
HBoot-1.14.0002
Radio-0.19as.32.09.11_2
OpenDSP-v29.1.0.45.0622
eMMC-boot
AT&T Stock RUU 2.20
I've relocked the device, flashed stock RUU (via fastboot), erased the cache, factory reset, wiping from TWRP recovery.....NOTHING is working!
All the phone does is boot to the "HTC quietly brilliant" screen, hang for a few moments then restart.
Any help someone can provide, would be greatly appreciated! This is my kid's phone and he's bugging about wanting to get it back. Thanks!:good:

Hang on. You'll need to provide more information, saying you've tried many things could mean anything. What exactly have you tried with this phone? I'm assuming it has been unlocked and rooted in the past? Does it have SuperCID?
Also, you said you flashed an RUU via fastboot, but an RUU is an exe file which runs by itself so flashing via fastboot isn't correct. Where did you get this alleged RUU and how did you run it?
@ted77usa
Just wait a minute, we need to properly identify what has been done to this device before going any further.

Thanks so much for taking your time to reply, guys.
Sorry, I didn't give full details. Yes, the phone has been rooted, unlocked and running CM10.1 fine for several months. All of a sudden, it got into this weird bootloop. So, I tried doing some of the tricks that people have posted about relocking the bootloader and flashing the stock rom via fastboot. That didn't work so I tried running the RUU...that didn't work. I went back in and tried a factory reset from the bootloader...nothing. I did a erase cache from fastboot and fastboot flashing the boot.img...still doing it. I went into TWRP recovery and wiping Delvik, Cache and Factory Reset....again, still stuck in bootloop.
Sorry to be lengthy but I'm trying to retrace as many steps as possible for you guys.
Ok, just to be clear, you ran the full RUU exe file?
Sent from my Evita
Stupid question.....
I just had a thought. I have the same exact HOX as my son. It's rooted, unlocked and running same CM10.1 rom as his was and it's running fine. Could I try backing up from my phone's clean nandroid file? So, it ends up just acting as a mirror of my phone?
Yes, you can create a backup on your son's phone using TWRP, copy the backup to a pc, copy it to your phone, and restore the backup. Being that you're s-on though you'll need to manually flash the boot.img from that ROM using fastboot. Do you still have a copy of the ROM zip?

Yes, I do. I always keep a copy of the rom on my phone for emergencies. Now, the other question is, my phone is running 1.85. The messed up phone is running 2.20 (both S-ON). Will it not work or...coming from a nandroid backup, does that not matter? Never tried doing a mirror before...
The firmware version that either phone is on won't make a difference as the backup tool can't touch that partition.

So, I need to just make sure the phone is back to being rooted, unlocked and running TWRP, then mount it and load the nandroid to the SD card. Should I do backup from fastboot or TWRP?
Do you think it will throw it out of that bootloop? I've spent two days on this and I'm ready to be done!
Add long as you have TWRP installed it should work just fine. You have to do the backup using the backup tool in TWRP. When you create the backup on your son's phone you will find it on the sd card at TWRP/backups/serial number, you need to put it in the same file tree on your sd card.
Whether or not it's going to solve your problem I'm not sure, but anything is worth a shot.

Well, I've got the phone loading into TWRP 2.5.0.0 and when I try to do a wipe Delvik, Cache and Factory Reset...it's telling me it can't find the SD Card.
"E: Unable to mount '/sdcard'
E: Unable to mount storage"
Phone says it's still CID: 11111111
Bootloader: Unlocked.
Any clue how to get the phone to read/write to the SD Card so I can back up to a nandroid?
Did you mention doing a factory reset from bootloader? If so, you'd corrupted the sd card and you'll need to format it using Windows before you can use it. Also, you'll need to flash TWRP 2.6 because 2.5 is full of bugs.

It should come up as fat32 as the default, if not just make sure you format it to fat32 and that's it. It'll probably take twenty minutes or so.

I'm fairly new to the modding area, I'm familiar with the VZW S3 and S4, but upgraded to an M8...I rooted, got S OFF with firewater, and booted into twrp...BUT somehow the main factory image was deleted, and I can only boot into twrp..it stays at the HTC logo if I just let it boot...help!!
Is there something similar to Samsung's ODIN mode that I can just reflash a factory image?

When I try this again, it keeps telling me it cannot open the file...i copy the fastboot text so that it is correct...
How can I get S OFF back if I can't boot to any rom??
You can get into recovery...it won't let you restore a back up or nothing ?

Maybe sonic can get you s-off if all else fails with his java card. I'm not sure in your situation but I know he can do it as I used it. But I would use that as last resort

So you were S-OFF and you somehow got turned to S-ON...??
I would say flash the RUU and call it a day, but we don't have one and the one we do have you need S-OFF..
best bet?
get into fastboot/bootloader, and put on a custom recovery.
then, get the TWRP nandroid of the OTA, restore to that.
then, weaksauce/S-OFF
and then you should be back to normal.
If adb/fastboot is not working, I suggest you re-install your drivers, worked for me when I didn't think it would.
opion 2
get TWRP on with fastboot
then
adb sideload any ROM to it and then get back to S-OFF
since you are unlocked you should be ok to do this without being htc dev unlocked.
you could also try htc dev, but i think that is locked.
sorry trying to think of anything else.

because of this, it most likely will not flash the nandroid then as system is a big part of the ROM and needs to be mounted.
you may have to do what was explained earlier and wipe the Internal, and then you may be able to re-do these steps.
so first try it out.
if it doesnt work, I would then wipe the 5 things instead of the 4
1) data
2) cache
3) dalvik cache
4) system
5) Internal storage (this will remove all your internal storage!)
then reboot from recovery into bootloader, then back into recovery and see if system is mounted, if it is, you can go ahead and either do the nandroid backup or an adb sideload. -- your choice
now,
if NONE of that works,
download the "RUU" that was put together and that *should* fix you right up.

Nope won't work. I think it's because there is no marker folder for the m8 in my SD card where I store my backups. I tried making one, and it won't register that there is a folder there...

yes.. yes it most certainly will work as my ROM is based off that precise nandroid backup...
this is something you should have had backed up..
but, make yourself a dummy nand backup to create the folder..
just don't backup anything except.. data or cache, just pick one thing. and it'll create the folder for you (tip: backup EVERYTHING (Internal., SD-Card, anything important, etc) when playing with beta ROMs. ESP AOSP beta ROMs..
the folder that gets created will be the same throughout your entire stay on the M8 using TWRP, it will never change (well that phone anyway, if you get a refurb or w.e. obv it will be different, but that phones folder markers will never change within TWRP, so it's to your benefit to have this backed up and ready to go...)

Awesome!
Very welcome.
So what was the result fix?
Did you have to wipe Internal from system not mounting?
Or did the adb sideload work?
Also once it flashed it loaded up if you did not have to wipe Internal, was your storage still there?
Glad that your back up and running.

I had to flash the RUU but it finally worked and was applied..I'm honestly thinking of holding off on doing more to it until I learn more!
Had to wipe pretty much all except my sd card, rebooted to bootloader and back to twrp and it allowed me to write to system. BUT I couldnt get any rom to flash (when I did, it hung on the HTC logo as usual, but the aroma installer said that it was successful..so I gave up on that and did the RUU on a different computer and its back to normal.

It's possible after so long you didn't give the ROM long enough to boot up?
Sounds like RUU might be a cause from flashing AOSP, threads like this are good to warn people, and for when it happens to others, they can read this and know what to do. Maybe think of a new title that could help those in a search to find this thread?
