[ROM] [JB 4.2.2][SPEED][BATTERY][STABILITY] PRIME/ATOM-422 - Nexus 7 Android Development

PLEASE READ:
This AOSP is not limited to source changes from CM, Vanir, CNA, EOS, Carbon, AOKP etc. you get the best of all of them.* All features included have been reworked to eliminate performance sinks and memory leaks and subtly improved as i see fit also. Finally, this rom is compiled using GLOBAL -O3 -fstrict-aliasing.* I don't just turn it off where there's violations like every other "linaro" ROM source i've seen listed.* This is the real deal.* Latest linaro toolchain snapshot and proper use of the current 4.8 GCC features so it actually means something to say it's compiled with GCC 4.8.
Disclaimer: Because I'm using building using commits from every major repo in existence it may take a while to integrate some of the major features to my standards. I may release a stock AOKP feature as a beta until I have the chance to improve it but I'm not interested in band-aid fixing things or duck taping **** together just to get more crap under the features list and change log. Also, If you have questions or interest in building or joining vanirAOSP please message me on gtalk: [email protected] and feel free to add me on google+
here is a link to the parent thread where you can view previous change logs and perhaps find an answer to a question

notes:
recommend trying the 0.25x transition speeds located in development options. this (& vanir-based roms) is the only ROM that has them.
screenshot is in custom apps --> apps & actions. i did this so it could be a desktop shortcut also
Instructions:
download rom & a gapps package compatible with AOSP roms
manually wipe (factory reset please)
flash ROM

Atom 422 grouper

Why does the server say 6/22 as last update?

Whawuzzat?!
Installed this last night. No issues so far with general use. One disturbing thing to be aware of is that this ROM seems to be reading my mind, anticipating everything I'm going to do next. I can think of no other explanation for how fast and responsive this thing is! Thank you, Prime. I've been wanting a "best-of" mashup ROM like this. :good:

Yes this ROM is lightning fast, love the faux kernel included
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Like other said, this ROM is very fast and smooth, no lag at all, even If my nexus 7 tend to become laggy.
When i installed the ROM the CPU governor was set at user space, should i leave it there for best result?

Very fast and clean Rom. Thx

Really loving this ROM, thanks so much for sharing your work

It's very fast rom but seems like battery drain very fast and charge very long

Silly Questions...
What is the difference between Atom and Prime roms ??
also that if i am running atom rom fully customized...can i switch to prime by a dity flash (Without wiping anything except dalvick and cache partition)???

Questions like this are vague as heck. And in my opinion, a bit pointless. Everyone's battery life is different depending on usage patterns and many other things. If someone tells you it has "good" battery life, they're only using their own experiences as a reference which means it is probably completely different to your definition of "good" or "fast" in your case.
The best way for you to get your answer would be to flash it and make your own judgement

I'll admit i was a bit vague, i am currently on aokp mr2 + m-kernel a56. I meant to ask how does this rom's battery drain compare to either stock rom or my combo in ,,normal'' usage patterns (casual gaming, web browsing, some songs, maybe a movie or two). I mean, there's gotta be some ordinary usage pattern, not everyone is a serious gamer or a multimedia-only user, right ? The N7's official battery life estimation was formulated by looking at some aggregate usage patterns, and that could be taken as the book example for the ,,normal'' usage pattern. I hope i cleared things up a bit.

[Q] Which is the best ICS Rom-kernel combo for Nexus?

Hi guys, in these days I'm trying many different roms to chose the best one. I've tried these: AndroidMe, codename android 1.3.3, CyanogenMod 9 v4.0.3 v2.1 and CyberGR-MOD with the respective stock-kernel but no one did satisfy my desires.
I just want these "mods"
- configurable Toggles in status bar (so that i can switch on and off 3g data just with 2 screen taps)
- Battery icon with % of battery left
- Configurable Lockscreen (I need at maximum 4 targets)
- TouchWake (the screen turns on with just a finger touch on it)
- Maximum frequence of cpu at 1,2 Ghz
Now comes the big problem! With all the roms I've tried some of this was not available. The best one was cyberGr-Mod, but I had a lot of battery drain.
Which combo Rom+ kernel do you suggest me to have the things I wrote before and also a great battery Life?
Thanks a lot
There are quite some points you want in your rom, I'm not sure if there is any that fits you needs.
But let's see:
- configurable Toggles in status bar (so that i can switch on and off 3g data just with 2 screen taps)

I know that feature only from CyanogenMod. That latest version (which you also tried) has them build in but not to a 100% complete. Almost every Rom needs some more development to get all the features implemented it should have, so maybe you need to wait a little.
- Battery icon with % of battery left

This option does not need to be implemented in a Rom, you can easily change the batter indicator yourself with just flashing the Icon you want. At least for CM9 there are some links in the Rom-Thread.
- Configurable Lockscreen (I need at maximum 4 targets)

I'm not sure if any Rom has that feature but it also sounds to me like this could be done by an additional program?
- TouchWake (the screen turns on with just a finger touch on it)

Same here, maybe there is an app for that.
- Maximum frequence of cpu at 1,2 Ghz

Most Roms and custom kernels have more overclocking, but that it no need at all. You could either use SetCPU to limit the cpu or for example a Rom like CM9, this has additional options to limit the cpu.
Now comes the big problem! With all the roms I've tried some of this was not available. The best one was cyberGr-Mod, but I had a lot of battery drain.

Why not taking cyberGR when you liked it most and try some other kernels till you find what you want. I would try either the GlaDOS kernel or the matr1x one and then trying different governors in the cpu settings.
aokp + air kernel
All that u want i have in my combo (ROM+Kernel). I use apex (bixie) v.1.0.0 + matr1x kernel v.16.5 (see a review of this combo on nexusshacks - really rocks, i get with normal usage almost 2 days of battery and there are really a lot of tweakable options).
The best combo i've tryied.
cheers.
If i helped u somehow, pls hit thanks button

forgot to mention, whatever rom u're using, try out NStools ans see if the tweakable options there avaliable are enough for u.

for touchwake and Configurable lockscreen they are embedded in many roms

I've just tried tooverclock to 1,1ghz, otherwise the phone was not stable

Because now I've installed the Codenamedroid 1.3.3 and everything seems better except the status bar toggles, but i want to give it a try for 1 or 2 days at least

Sorry for the strange method to answer you but the multiquote-button didn't work
@ sean1984 : Which rom AOKP do you suggest me? is cyanogen the best AOKP or there is something better?
@ kalitza: I went suddenly to check the rom you suggested me on nexushacks, there are many positive comments but also some users which couldn't install the rom for some problems... above all, I will surely give it a try.
Now I'm testing Codename android 1.3.3 and everything except the statusbar toggles (limited to 4 and not customizable, that means no data toggle) seems to work well, i'll use it again a couple of days to have a better idea and then (after nandroid backup if everything in the rom is ok) I will try the one you suggested me.
About NSTools, where can I find the last release? does every rom have a specific release of NSTools or it is universal for every Rom?
in CNA 1.3.3 go to Settings - Interface and touch Notification widget text, it will open toggle menu where you can choose which ones you prefer

@ kalitzka: It's really funny that in the site nexussha*** they now suggest to try the CodeName ICS ROM with Matr1x Kernel, what i'm trying now.
They say "Here’s another combo you can expect some smooth performance with great battery life, CodeName ICS ROM with Matr1x kernel. I think this one, Crossbones, and Bigxie/Apex ROMs are probably the best I’ve tried so far".
P.s. I wrote something to you also in post N. 5.. I'm new in writing here in xda so I don't know well how to use all these forum quoting - quick replying different buttons

Don't worry, you'll become a regular crackflasher very soon Speaking about ROMs, my favorites are CNA and Nuhetri, pair them with speedy-7 or air kernel and you're good to go, just delete RAMDISK folder in speedy-7 zip if you're flashing it on CNA. It's great to see how ICS mods keep evolving, thanks again to devs and their hard work...

Today I'm trying CNA with kernel Matrix, good battery life but the phone seems a little bit laggy sometimes.. I will surely try the Speedy-7 that you suggested.
Yes It's a great thing that these roms keeps evolving, the only thing that I don't like very much is that there are so many different roms that is so difficult to chose the best one, imagine if there will be only 2-3 roms (for example 1 MIUI, 1 cyanogen, 1 AOSP) and all the developers focused toghether their efforts just in these 3 Roms, I think that now we would already have perfect kernel-roms completely free of problems, full of features, and with 2 days battery life
Yes, I agree with that. We have too many similar ROMs, but I see more and more teams forming, like CNA for example and the result is obvious. I am no dev, but it's kinda hard for a single person to maintain ROM on regular basis, refreshing it with new mods and stuff like that due to lack of time... So, hope to see more teams developing a single ROM

I think that nowadays, after that giant work, no one has as much experience as you in this field

[ROM+KERNEL] AOSP+ Battery & Speed

The goal of this ROM and kernel is to tweak voltages as much as possible and adding overclocks where necessary. I first aim for extra battery life and then the speed improvements will arrive.
Reason for starting this ROM is that I want my own stable ROM, with extra battery and speed just the way I want it.
Instead of making a github account I will upload my patch sets to comply with GPL, other developers can use these patches easily
Features
- More speed
- More battery
- Tweaked governors
- Removed crap

based on latest cm10? kernel?
CM10 is actually not very good for the Nexus 7. The builds are unstable and it's not working properly yet. For now I stick with building AOSP ROMs for the Nexus 7
I need to know to the device manager is for the Nexus 7 so I can push my changes.
Until then I refuse to work for CM10. I tried their latest build and I did not like it at all.
I am still experimenting with programming for the Nexus 7.
Due to lots of school work Java, ADO .NET 4, Networking, Math in my university I have not much freetime. I also have a Google Nexus to manage. Again there CM10 is also unstable, and they refuse to accept my patches, which are known to fix those problems they are having. But I have been using those patches because they helped for me.
I have applied to join the AOKP team. I am still waiting for an answer.
Would love to try it out, but the service you're using to offer downloads 1) pops up porn ads and 2) won't let me download after I tried clicking had to wait, and came back to it 10 min later.
Seems like you're in it more for the income you could make and not the user experience, yeah?

Since this is based on aosp, I'm guessing that there isn't notification toggles?
Edit: I'm very interested to try this. awaiting your answer

I am still trying to find a commit that gives me these notification toggles. You can always help me finding them. Eventually they will arrive. At least I hope they do. I am doing my best.
My main goal is putting extra battery life into this thing, next cleaning up the messy code from Asus or Google who-ever is responsible, next user experience. I will be mailing a few people for the dropdown notifications.

I will upload version 2 on zippyshare and rapidgator.
Version 2 is coming with:
- Fixed power_profile.xml: it looks like the whole file was being treated as crap. The Nexus 7 doesn't have a 3260mAh battery... So I fixed that. I also fixed the cpu power consumption. Since there are no real values I hope to solve it as soon as possible to be a little more accurate. But now it looks very clean which is a huge improvement.
- Interactive governor has been nicely tweaked. Before my cpu frequency was always sitting at 1200mhz while playing Dead Trigger. I tuned:
- sustained_load: 80 --> 85
- go_highspeed_freq & go_maxspeed_freq: 85 --> 90
- min_sample_time: 30ms --> 60ms
- Extra patches from Nvidia, Google and Asus
thanks for your reply, i'll wait for v2 then. anyway i'll try to find the commit when i have free time. Hopefully you'll manage to implement it in time for v2
Same here. Can't download v1 and can't wait for v2!
If you can, you should implement these clemsyn uv to the kernel internal voltages on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903304
and also add user tweakable cpu uv via init.d script maybe? seems like a exxcellent way to save battery..
Looks very interesting this Rom. Bugless, extra battery life and then speed (though seriously even stock is pretty damn smooth) is what counts for me. On the nexus 7 not even the power widget's important let alone any other bloating features.
I'll flash on the weekend and report how it goes!

Native CM vs Custom (not a ROM's comparison!)

Hi friends!
Now some customs CM10.1 based is coming. As I think the major's different with a native CM still a app's packages and interface changes, but some tweeks of performance too.
Can somebody explain, how many battery time can I win, in optimistic estimate, with custom's tweeks?
I ask not for a ROM comparison but for a theorethycal estimate.
I like a native CM ant try to understand is I have some reasons to play with customs. Is my battery benefit may be just some minutes in addition to the base life it have no sense, but is it may be for example 1/4 of life, it may a reason to try
Yes I understand that phone and usage is different and blablabla

[Q] Better Battery?

So right now I am on UnKnown_JB V1.8.1 with Kernel 3.4.10. Before that I was on PAC-ROM v23. The battery life on UnKnown ROM is extremely good, but I do not like the stock feel. I was wondering, which ROM (updated after June 27) has the best battery life without the stock feel?
BAKED BlackBean 9 (JB 4.2.2)
Dark Jelly S Edition Build 32.1
IllusionRom-2.0
Avatar ROM
I want to know which of these ROMs have the best battery life with the least amount of bugs. Otherwise, I may stay with UnKnown 1.8.1.
Also, I was wondering if flashing a custom Kernel is beneficial.
Again, I thank anyone who can aid me. I am only asking in order to save a lot of time by flashing and testing.
I advise ya illusion
They don't allow these posts. Xda wants us to waste our time flashing and setting up Rom after Rom after Rom. They don't allow any feedback comparing roms. You have to read through like 80 pages of posts in each Rom thread to try to get an idea which might be the most stable or suitable, plus most problems people report are to do with their set up or an error and not the roms fault. So its almost impossible to know which may be more or less stable.
I went with viper one s 2.2 and its been rock solid reliable for me. There are lots of others I would like to try and may like better but I don't want to waste hours getting everything set up the way I like again and find its not as stable or bug free as what I have, plus I will lose track of my data usage for this billing cycle.

What's the best ROM to speed up an ailing Galaxy Tab 2??

I bought my dad a Galaxy Tab 2 a few years ago and although he barely uses it, it seems to have slowed to a crawl even whilst using it's most basic functions! (I've tried a full factory reset and it's still ridiculously slow - 20+ seconds just to load up the Play Store for example!)
Is there a generally regarded "fastest" (lightweight?) custom ROM out there that I could put on for him to extend the usability a bit?
Thanks...
slimkat slimlp builds are one of the most lightest and speed efficient roms.
Aosp builds are the minimalist builds, pure stock android experience.
Omni builds are good too, with little more features and oc kernel.
Generally CyanogenMod would get the latest updates(with bugs fixes and improvements) and then other rom will follow.
Then there is candy rom with most features than others.
Marshmallow builds are still in development.
Lollipop builds are near stable now.
Kitkat builds won't get more stability than it has already got.
Choose according to your dad requirements.
Thanks for the reply!
I went with Cyanogenmod in the end (10.1.3 just because it looked to be the most recent that was "stable" rather than "nightly" - not sure what the difference is!?!?)
Result - amazing!!!!!
The difference in speed is like night and day!!
Thanks again...

Thanks for the recommendation. Even I'm thinking of downgrading the device from cm13. It simply isn't worth the lag.
I might try some of the other lighter builds mentioned in the previous post first though.
What kind of benchmark tests does one run to know which rom is optimized for a device?
