dual android car charger - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

Anyone recommend a dual usb/Android car charger. Preferably a 2 amp if it exists. The wife and I both have galaxy's an S3 and an S4 and it would be great if we could both charge of the same car charger. If one does not exist I suppose I could use 2 separate 2 amp ones since we have dual charger ports in the van one battery and one engine
Thanks

Monoprice has a dual port 4.2a charger on sale right now for under 10 bucks.

Lots of 3.1 amp dual chargers on eBay for like 5$. They are usually 2.1 amp on one port and 1 amp on the other port. But 4.2 amp dual charger for 10 isn't a bad deal to be honest.

I think the reason they mark one as Ipad is because the ipad requires a min of 2.1a to charge. Smartphones require less. But I don't think the usb port connector is any different. I am pretty sure you could still charge any other device through the port marked as ipad as well. I'm headed out of town for the weekend but I can try charging my other phone through the 2.1a port and let you know

I bought one of these : http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AYTLSRQ/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It works great, it's 2.1a so iPads and some other tablets can also charge on it, and it's very small (it sticks out even less than the original cigar lighter )
It charges quite fast as well.

Good car charger to buy? Phone dock?

I heard there is a difference between car charger. Some charge faster than others. I just bought one off ebay for 5 bucks. Damn thing charges maybe 10% after 30 minutes in my car. My nokia n95 car charger changed the phone from dead to full in 45 minutes and that battery lasted the same if not longer than the nexus one.
Also which phone dock should I buy, now that you can't buy a google/htc dock. I want one that is visually appealing.
This Motorola charger has been great. I can't remember how much its rated, but I think around 850mH.

Use this one too and love it
i use Griffin's. it has 2 usb, so it's good for charging my ipod and n1 at the same time. the bad side is, i think it don't have enough energy to charge my n1. it only slows the batt consumption. i use it a lot when i go for travels because i use my n1 as gps.
It makes sense to get the official N1 car dock. It's a sweet dock that can also be used to plug the charger directly into the phone.
I love my N1 car dock use it as a GPS and mp3 player. Charges ok while I'm drive and using all the features.

Is it ok to use a car charger rated at 1.2 amps? Do we need exactly 1 amp or 960 m amp?

The phone draws whatever it wants. The rating on the charger just says what the charger is capable of outputting. The official nexus car dock, for example, uses a cigarette lighter adapter which is rated for 2 amps while a usb cable plugged into your computer is only rated for 500ma.
The problem with buying 1A car chargers is that the phone may not know how much it can draw and will default to taking just 500ma. Every charger has some sort of way of telling the phone what it can supply, such as shorting out the 2 signal pins or putting a resistor between them. every manufacturer has it's own standard and it's a guessing game as to whether it will pull 1A or 500ma. Iphones, for example, will not draw any current at all unless it sees the exact set of resistances across the 2 signal and ground pins which is just silly.

N4 LG charger and USB cable

I need an extra USB cable for charging my N4 in my car because I use a Scosche dual USB charger 2.1 amp. Will any USB cable be fine like the one in the link below or should I be looking for anything specific? I don't want something to mess up my N4 battery.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AHEQ6FC/ref=aw_cr_item_title?qid=1360505932&sr=8-19

I was wondering the same thing. I'd like to get a couple extra USB wall chargers and micro USB cables to go with them. I'd like it to be as efficient and safe as possible for my Nexus 4 as well as friends that may need a charger. (N4 taking priority here)

Well as long as the power supplied is 5V (the usb standard) and under 1.2 amp (the output of the factory wall adaptor) you should be safe not burning out your phone. If you are just asking about a usb to micro usb cable then it shouldn't matter since the cable should supply the right voltage anyways.

I love the OEM USB Cable, especially cause it fits with all of my cases.
I would love to get the OEM charger, but after my current one acting up (usb wire for some reason keeps making it say usb charging despite being plugged into wall outlet), I'm cautious.

This is one of the reasons I bought the oem charger. Had the ac/usb issue. Changed wires and still does that. Used my gnex charger and it didn't give me problems. So I said it must be the charger itself. Bought the new one and now I'm confident when plugging my phone in. No more issues on the ac/usb charging thing

Hmm... for me, I changed the wires and it works. I think I would rather just save the $10 and put it towards the "wheneveritisreleased" Wireless Charging Orb.....or the TYLT VU when it comes out in April.
Hi guys, I have a few micro USB chargers lying around. Just wondering if using these would harm my N4:
12 V, 500mA
5 V, 2.1 A
5 V, 1.9 A
5 V, 1 A
The 12 V 500mA charger makes my phone's screen go haywire (applications opening and closing by themselves) but it does charge the phone.

at least you narrowed it down fast to the wire. in my case after swapping just the wires it was still the same. then when i used the original n4 charger on my gnex, my gnex suddenly had the ac/usb charging issue. my problem with not getting another charger was i sometimes charge both phones at the same time so i needed one more. good thing a couple of searches led me to the buychina site and now all works well.
I am very interested in this topic as I believe I'm going to need a new USB > MicroUSB cable. My cat accidentally knocked off my N4 while it was charging using the original cable/charger. While it seems the charger itself is okay, the cable is what I am worried about. The end seems slightly bent and, while it will plug into the N4 (which will report charging) it doesn't go as "easily". From visual inspection I think the problem is with the cable's microUSB end; I really hope that the N4's socket itself is not bent/damaged in anyway, but I cannot see any visual signs thereof.
I was really hoping to pick up another OEM charging kit, but it appears that (assuming they are legit ) that one can only find them on Taobao/ChinaBuy as linked above? I was hoping Amazon would have them. With this in mind, will there be anything specific to look for finding another "USB to MicroUSB cable" from Amazon to use with the existing, undamaged OEM charger? Thanks.
I'm no expert but I believe there shouldn't be any issue of you get a different cable. I've used an HTC, Samsung and Asus calls with the LG charger and there aren't any issues. If it's just the cable you need, go with Amazon. It'll be faster

Great, thanks. It seems logical that all "USB A > MicroUSB B" cables should be capable of the same thing, but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something that would say, impair my ability to use this cable for not only charging with the OEM wall charger, but charging from my PC's USB ports, connecting to said PC via USB Debugging for rooting/flashing etc...

DUDE!!!! The 12V charger can KILL your phone.. The phone is designed for 5volts..
As long as the charger supplies 5 volts it is okay... even a 10 amp charger will work fine (if availiable ).. The current is controlled by the device (nexus 4 in this case).. It will draw how much current it requires.. Voltage on the other hand is decided by the charger.... 12volts will fry the device...

Old Car Charger?

I have a Charger adapter that I got with my GalaxyS years ago. It is the type that you just plug in your standard USB cable into it then plug into a cigarette lighter in your car. My question is does the S4 have the same voltage and amp requirements as older Galaxys so I can use this adapter now for my S4?
Thanks

It seems from what I have read after Goggling that is "might" work but most people seem to recommend a 2amp model that has the cord built in not the plug in USB type.
U can use 2.6amp or lower. Older chargers are probably 1amp or lower so that's fine. But it'll charge slow compared to a 2amp ones which is what I use. U can buy a pny brand car cigarette usb adapter 2amp output for $7 on amazon and oem usb cable for $3.

I was using older chargers with my S4 also but it was taking way too long. I got a 2amp one for home and one for the car and now it charges properly.
you might find that the gps will eat the batter faster than it can charge using an old 1amp charger, recomended to get a 2A one for sure
Would I be risking any damage by using my Motorola car charger?
It will be fine I used to use my BlackBerry charger for mine

[Q] 2A charger under $20?

I recently bought the official s4 qi charger using the 50% off code. I forgot to purchase the required 2 AMP charger to power it (I didn't notice that wasn't included in the package). Since I don't have an S4 (I'm going to use the charger for my Nexus 7 FHD and my S3) I'm trying to find a 2AMP charging block/cord that I can trust.
I hate to start a new thread about this, but I searched all over Amazon and XDA and the best solution I could come up with is this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...PWYPY7NWWHH&coliid=I321ZTUWIDWWO3&me=&seller=
I'm confident this one would work, but it's cord is connected to the brick and it's black and not white. I would prefer to have a separate brick so I could use a white cord to match the white s4 qi charger on my desk.
There are MANY solutions out there but each one I've found has mixed reviews when it comes to Android products and some even mention catching on fire! I hate to go the non-OEM route... but signing up for another account on Samsung's site and paying shipping and tax again will bring my total close to $28 dollars. At that point I might as well return the charger and just eat the shipping cost to return it.
TL;DR: Does anyone use a non-OEM charger that was under $25 with their S4 qi charger and can verify it doesn't catch on fire???
Thanks!

I've had great results with the rocketfish charger. under $5 at amazon.
Don't forget that our S4's have the 11 pin micro usb connector. I used an older 5 pin one and wondered why my 2amp charger took forever to charge my phone, rather than the 1.5 hours it normally takes to fully charge.
The extra pins are only for MHL.
The stock charger has 4 visible pins.

I guess that sorta makes sense. I figured I'd use it more like drop my phone down to charge up a bit real quick before heading back out the door. Kind of a busy life style type thing.

Ya, it's not good for that. It won't charge it as fast then

The S5 has more than 2 points of contact for the wireless charging back. Not sure if it is for nfc, but maybe the doubled the charging capabilities by having two separate charging coils?
Edit: This is my first post is 5 years, I feel like a lurker.
The power of pad doesn't matter, the coil from the back of the case is the charging source. So for s4 note 3 it's 650 mamps and the new one for s5 is 700 mamps( if i spoted right in the pictures). The difference is in aspect and size only.

Are they up to 1A now? Last I checked, there wasn't a wireless charger anywhere that charged faster than 850mAh. Which is only 30% as fast as the USB 3.0 charging of 2500mAh.

If you look at pictures the S5 official wireless cover charges at 760ma.

1amp is theoretical charging speed.
Just like how the phone stock charger is 2amps, it will max out at around 1.8 amps

Get them while they last!!
I have three wireless chargers. The small original Samsung, one Nillkin and a noname. I am using the original charging back from Samsung. I am very happy with the small original Samsung charger. The S5 gets much less warm than with the both others and it stops charging at 100%.
I had it on the Nillkin over night and the next day when it has been at nearly 100% already in the evening it was extrem hot at the morning and still charging but it showed 100% but not the full message at all. Very suspicious. With the noname I very often have the wireless charging detected message when it comes over 9x% so it looks as if the charger often "looses the connection" to the wireless charging back cover.
The original small Samsung charger says 5,3V and 2A on the back and it loads at maximum wireless power with the original back cover and the original power supply. For me this is the best combination. The only thing is, that you cannot use the S5 very well while charging because of the small charging pad. I most time take the charging pad with the S5 in one hand so it cannot tilt.

Samsung offers two wireless charging pads. One is mini and the other is standard size. Is it just the size that is the difference? Does one charge faster than the other?

3 coils vs 1 coil.
3 coils is better with cases and easier to place the phone on it.

Both samsung charger are 1 coil.
3 coil offer a wide surface detection, but does not mean it's better that a single coil charger.
