I am trying to figure out why my 3G/4G cuts in and out from time to time while using AxisM RLS19-21. When i reboot I will see 4G for a second or two then I will have 3G, but this cuts out and renders me dataless. I can still text and make phone calls but I cannot access the internet I have a verizon wireless galaxy s3. I have done clean installs of each ROM and I still lose my 4G/3G. My girlfriend has the same phone with AxisM RLS18 and is experiencing no issues with data loss. I have searched through the original thread and searched the web, but could not find anything on this issue. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
I don't know if my location matters, but I am in Putnam/Dutchess Counties in NY.

I am using baseband I535VRLG1. I wasn't aware that you can change the baseband. I got the phone at its release and used the method in this thread to root. How would I change the baseband?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788313
Here's a list of all of the baseband versions just flash them in recovery, but read everything carefully because there are some issues with the new ones and compatibility and such.

I'm on a trip overseas and I'm having issues with international roaming on the newest Valhalla rom. Initially, my phone will register to the network just fine with data and everything. After a random amount of time - anywhere from 5 minutes to a few hours - I will be disconnected from the network entirely and have to reset in order to connect to data, send texts, or make phone calls. There are two networks I can use here in Malaysia and I'm experiencing the same issue with both in multiple cities. Is this a common problem with flashed roms? I haven't ever had an issue like this with international roaming until I flashed this one.
Note: I took a look at the "T-mobile service issue" post and I haven't had any issues staying connected to the T-mobile network while in the states.
I tried updating the modem to KJ1 and I'm still having the same problem. I usually get kicked off the network within 5 minutes and have to search for a network again. Any ideas?
I've not done any international roaming but if the problem seems centralized to that particular ROM, maybe you can try a factory data reset & re-flash that ROM? Otherwise I'd consider going back to a stock ROM & see if the problem is there. If not, then maybe re-flash Valhalla? I wish I had more to offer but I have no experience with international roaming.
Maybe PM WhitehawkX to see if he has any insight?

Yeah I haven't had any issues with international roaming up until using Valhalla. I just tried flashing the KJ3 modem and I'm still getting the same result. I'll probably wait to flash another rom until i get back stateside but I'll PM WhitehawkX in the meantime. Thanks
Good luck. I feel bad for you being in another country and having issues. Maybe try the KJ5 modem; fresh off of the press today

Yeah it's not an ideal situation, that's for sure. I tried flashing KJ5 and I'm having the same issue.

So after a lot of digging with no real results I think it might be a Samsung galaxy issue with roaming on gingerbread? I read a support article from Sasktel in Canada with regards to the Galaxy Vibrant: http://support.sasktel.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12517/~/samsung-galaxy-s-vibrant-roaming-issues-after-upgrading-to-android-2.3.3%3A
Basically it says there is an issue with roaming outside of the US and Canada directly related to the Gingerbread upgrade for that variant. I'm thinking that the problem might also affect the S 4G variant and that's why I'm having problems. Supposedly this is going to be fixed in future updates and maybe this is one of the reasons Samsung hasn't released an official Gingerbread update for this phone. I realize this is not likely, but is anyone up to the task of figuring out the problem and fixing it before Samsung does?

did u try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507825 i would like to know if it does work, i might switch to wind when wind gets to my area
Still trying. Anyone else figure it out?
Still working on finding the right combination. Would love to drop Rogers for Wind with a mint second-hand Skyrocket I just picked up. Let me know if you have had any success.
Tried:
1) Juggernaut ROM/Faux009 kernel/Telus i898 KJ3 modem = not working
Juggernaut ROM/Faux009 kernel/T-mobile VK1 modem = not working
2) CM 9.1.0 ROM/Included kernel/Blaze modem MOD = barely working (was able to send one text while I was outside despite being well within coverage)
3) Stock ROM(ugh bloatware)/Stock kernel/Tmo i898 KID radio= best reception so far but still cuts out regularly
Testing in Thorold, near NIagara Falls

So far it's working pretty good in 416.
I am using the Rogers SkyRocket
Slimbean 4.1.2 It has to be a 4.1.2 ROM it seems for this to work with the radios/modems as they are compatible with 4.1.2 and below
It works great and I get to 20M on speed test.
**** This is my current issue and I will probably try a different ROM (I really like the Slim stuff)- I reflashed SLIM over the current Slim and will see if it starts the dropping of modem again.
This is my post from anther thread.
The modem keeps disappearing and I have to reflash it to get a signal again.
The phone will just lose the signal and rebooting etc, does not help it get back. You have to reflash the modem file again. This is very strange. I have never read any posts about this issue either.
carrier- Wind Mobile Canada - AWS network like T-Mobile.
It's Slim Rom 4.1.2 on a Skyrocket.
Modem is Blaze 4G LB7 (T-Mobile)

Everything works great but this issue turned up about 2 days after flashing. I wiped and formatted everything before I flashed the ROM.
Has anyone had a problem with a Verizon network extender putting the phone in roaming? I flashed a MIUI rom and it works awesome until i get home. My network extender puts my phone in roaming on Sprint network. I've unplugged the network extender and phone immediately goes back to Verizon. Any help would be appreciated.
This happens to me also. Instead of Verizon it will say out of neighborhood. This also happens on CM10 but i get a "R". Solution for me was to flash an older radio. It seemed to do this when i flashed the leaked newer radios.

I thought about that. Mine says out of neighborhood in the status bar but in about phone under status it says I'm on Sprint network. I've been on the VBLK modem and RPM. I'll flash back and try that. Thanks.

What radio did you flash back to. This "R", and lack of signal even when sitting top of my extender, and the general lack of support for Verizon Extenders leaves me frustrated, so I would love to get things back on track. What are you seeing when on the older radio?
Or....no???

What is this supposed to mean? Also, I read a few posts on Rootzwiki somewhere in this thread:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/34053-mo...shable/page__st__370__p__1043499#entry1043499
and
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/34053-mo...recovery-flashable/page__st__390#entry1049281
...and it seems that flashing the ICS modems removes the "r" when you're on the home extender. So, VRALF2-->VRALHE may not have the "r" logo. Idk what the difference is but only on the JB modems have I seen any of these posts being reported.
Edit: And after looking at my link, its a change that Verizon implemented on the JB builds.
Hello,
I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3. I have rooted it about a month ago, and just yesterday switched to the AOKP rom. Everything was working well, except I have run into a couple issues.
1. Won't connect to 4G. I have a 4G data plan, and when I am out somewhere, it won't connect to 4G. Anyone know what to do?
2. I can send picture messages, but when I get them, it says "Download". I click Download, and it just loads with 0% and won't download them.
The biggest issue is the data plan not working, so I really need help with that. Thanks to whoever can help! Majorly appreciated!
-John
Can anyone help? I'm leaving for a trip soon and really need it fixed.
What modem are you running? I had data problems too until I upgraded my modem. I can't post a link yet because of my post count but if you google "verizon galaxy s3 modem" you'll find download links to flashable modems. I'm currently getting the best results with I535VRLK3 in my area. You'll just have to see which one works the best for you personally.
Also check what network you're on (I'm on a TW rom right now, so this might not be the right place to look, but... )

Also in Access Point Names make sure that you have LTE selected and not EHRPD. Some time it auto switches from LTE to EHRPD. If you notice that you are mostly in 3G it probably switched from LTE to EHRPD, at least that is my experience

Hey,
Two SGS3 phones in the household. One's rooted with CleanROM and one's unrooted stock. Our phones doesn't go to 3G often. But when they do, they're pretty much useless. Browsing is extremely slow. The other day I tried to send a text with a picture, and it took over five minutes to send. Tried speedtest.net, and got sub dialup download speeds and almost no upload at all. I don't think that the 3G in this area is bad. I have friends with 3G phones that browse right along just fine.
Is there something that makes these phones operate so poorly in 3G? Is there anything that can be done?
Since you're rooted on one I imagine you can root the one having problems, I'd say root and flash a new modem that might solve your problems

One's rooted with CleanROM and VRBLK1 radio. The other one is unrooted and has whatever radio came with the last updated before this one that just came out. Each one is just as useless as the other.
Try different modems. Assuming that doesn't work, come back here and report which ones you tried with what result.
Also, I rarely get stuck under 3G, but when I do, going under More settings/mobile networks/network mode, change to GSM then back to Global. That pops me back onto 4G every time without fail.

Are you in an area with 3g only, if so when I'm in such an area I use android tuner free or pro: then goto battery manager, on status tab bottom of page see tests, then device info, this brings up phone info page. scroll down and change to cdma auto prl. Then when back in 4g area change in regular settings to normal. Works great for me. If not it tries to find 4g constantly and with weak signal switches back and forth or stays on 3g with slow speeds.
Also like stated earlier try different modems and rpms, flash in pairs has worked best for me. And newest isn't always the best. I'm in Pensacola and newest is slower than mb1 or may is faster and better signal than md3.But each device is different. Good luck

Thanks. I'm on VRBLK1 right now, because I was told that it was the best one. But I doubt that my RPM matches. I read somewhere around here that RPM doesn't really matter. Wife's phone is on the update prior to this one that just came out, unrooted. So she's using whatever radio/rpm came with that.
I'm in a 4G area, and it's pretty rare that I end up on 3G. There are a couple of spotty areas close by that I always switch over. When I do, 1X is actually faster.
Can someone please point me to the location of the various radios that I can try. At least I can flash the RPM that goes with the one that I'm using. See if that makes a difference. I once had a bunch of them on my memory card, but that card died a while ago, and I lost everything.
Thanks!
There are a few things that you need to know before using the latest aio (all in one) radio files.
If you are running a 4.2 camera you shouldn't have any trouble, but the kernel you use can and will make a difference. If you flash the latest aio and camera doesn't work don't freak out, there are three options that I know of.
1 flash back to previous aio,
2 there is an aio with latest modem, rpm, and older tz (the tz is what messes up camera)
3 flash kernel that works with latest update
There is a thread on here about modems and it should be under android development thread probably just below pinned threads.

I was wondering if my method getting you back onto 4g by switching to GSM then back to global worked for you? Like I said it never failed me.
