Just my opinion, all of the UI's like Sense UI or Touchwiz looks much better than the AOSP stock UI. So maybe I am missing some information here...but do people get AOSP based roms like Cyanogenmod/AOKP just for the performance? And then do they just get their own themes to make it look like TouchWiz/Sense or whatever UI they like?
There aren't any touchwiz like themes for aosp nor are there any sense ui based themes that I know of. Most of the aosp theme creators don't theme to make it look like touchwiz as its look is one of the reason they went with an aosp rom instead.

everything you probably do on your device except slightly faster and slightly different.
Personally, I flash AOSP ROMs so my phone doesn't look like TW or Sense.

I respect your sarcasm my friend.
I just tried Touchwiz the other day and I like it, but I've been an AOSP user for a very long time. I like the look and feel of AOSP much more and there are a very large amount of people who agree.
I like the look of aosp but the only rom that I tried with similar signal strength with touchwiz was Avatar 4.1.2.
I'm all about the vanilla android feel that I get with AOSP and AOKP ROMs. I love the drastic difference in battery life since not many background processes and it is just much snappier and lightweight.
I've never been a fan of TouchWiz... it reminds me too much of iOS in some strange way. Before I bought my S3, I had to look around at some good AOSP ROMs so that I'd be able to tolerate it. Lol. HTC Sense, to me, is awesome though... but my old HTC phone ended up with an AOSP ROM.

I got bored with TW features. AOSP constantly has new features/changes and tweaks to play with on older features.

touchwiz looked kinda nice, but it was super laggy compared to CM, and I like the clean-ness of CM. Also, so much customization, and getting rid of Verizon crap! Haha.

what do you guys think about battery life? is it alot worse in aosp compared to tw? and gps. Is that stable and reliable enough to use? That is just something that I cant give up on.
I find battery life is better on AOSP. But it really depends on the kernal too.

Battery life with AOSP will usually be better. My explanation is stated in my previous post.

I just got my new inspire 4g and was thinking to flash it with Cyanogenmod but I like the sence UI I found that coredroid V 4.6 includes the sence UI and runs on 2.3.3 which is pretty good, but is it worth?
try them both see which one you like just make a nandroid back up.
Its like asking which is better chocolate or vanilla..
ive tried both and liked both. but i stuck with the coredroid rom myself. its the best ive tried and i also used the core roms on my hd2.

CoreDroid 5 FTW!

I love CM7..... I have tried a bunch of the 2.2 roms and even with juice defender i can't get any better battery life.
Personally I would go with CM7, but I hate Sense and the inevitable lag that always comes with Sense ROM's. CoreDroid has to be the best Sense ROM I've tried, though.
MIUI Inspire 4G
Dilligaf has a really smooth ROM with Sense, too. I'd be back on it if I weren't digging MIUI so much.
Non-Sense Roms and Sync?
Do you lose the ability to sync to your PC with HTC Sync if you are using a ROM without the Sense UI?

In my experience if you cover the mic on the back you will sound muffled to callers on the other end of a phone call. That could be one way to test.

I started out with CM7 and haven't left it yet. I just love the vanilla Android experience over Sense. Don't get me wrong I like Sense but I think Android is better off without skins on top of it.
I liked both, but sticking with CM7 for now... It just comes down to personal preference as they are both good.

I think that Sense is the best of the skins out there comparing it to motoblur and touchwiz especially but it will always be the least of all evils instead of actually adding something to my user experience with Android.

I decided to go with CM7, and am quite happy. I was very happy to get rid of Sense, especially the twitter app.
The running battery life is definitely worse than stock, but not too bad. I'm using SetCPU to limit the clock to 375 whenever the display is turned off, and that has helped my standby/sleeping battery life noticeably.

Absolutely. It is a very popular ROM, built off CM7 source. If you really are concerned, check out miui-dev.com or the post on MIUI in the Inspire 4G development section here.

It's one of the more stable ones, now anyways. But, im currently downloading CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V5.1 Just because I prefer it. If i wanted my phone to look like an iphone i would have bought an iphone. But if your ever looking at other ROMS check out CoreDroid. It has been good to me for all the time i've used it before.
I hear Chuck Norris beta-tested MIUI... on a iPhone.
I'm not a fan of the iPhone look either. Just add a launcher and you will be back to what you are used to seeing, only slicker.

Like I said, if you put a launcher on it like a lot of us do anyway (ADW, Laucherpro, GOLauncher), it doesn't look like a iPhone anymore, it looks like the launcher on any other ROM; app drawer is back, all the widgets work, it's what you are used to seeing and using. Then you see the difference in the little things, like settings screens, performance, ect. Seriously, if you are flashing ROMs anyway, it's worth a try.

yeah, since most changes in ICS are visual, they'll get buried under the miui skin. The same will happen with Sense, although i expect Sense 4.0 (or whatever) to bring some differences from 3.5. This is the same as Miui Gingerbread, except under the hood improvements. I'll wait for CM9

Got to be honest I agree with you. I preferred miui over aosp gingerbread and sense roms and although ics looks good and the likes of superkid and Co have done a great job porting it so quick, I'll still be sticking with miui. I really don't like the app drawer, it annoys me. Just hope you can still customize the new miui v4 like you can now.

And in MIUI v4 ICS Official Sense Based Will I gget the stock app for the camera?

Sense based is better for now! you have the stock camera app plus the AOSP modifications like themes on sense! very good battery life anyway
IMO, for now stick with the sense based. Lind has done an amazing job one the AOSP based MIUI but since it is based on CM9 and CM still have some issues on the ONE S, those issues apply also to Lind's port.
The Sense based version of MIUI retains the Stock camera app and the Sense Gallery. It's really stable, has awesome battery life and you can flash custom sense kernels.
ive been running the AOSP based one for about a week now and love it.
no problems at all with it. stacks of free ram with all my apps loaded back onto it and the battery is far better than any other roms i've tried

Hello,
Just made the switch from the Galaxy Nexus and planning my first ROM for the S3 in the next couple days when I find some time. I am no newb when it comes to flashing, just thought I might be able to narrow my search or find some ROM I am unaware of.
I'm used to running CM and AOKP, and I like parts of the TouchWiz, but not all of it, so I am wondering if there are any Hybrids out there that keep the base of TouchWiz and implement AOSP where it can.
For example - I like the Zoom features of the browser on TouchWiz, but would prefer the Notification widgets of CM10. I like the plain Jane SMS app but like S Memo. So it would be cool if there was a hybrid somewhere.
Also heard about a Note 2 ROM for the S3 from a friend, but haven't seen that yet either.
Any direction or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks - Morgan
If you want some sort of hybrid, go for Jelly 'Beans' Rom by Beanstown.
If you want to try an alternative launcher and have the choice during ROM installation give Galaxy Mod a try. I've been using it for a bit and it's awesome so far.
Looks good! Thanks
Meanjellybean for me. It has been incredibly stable, super smooth and has the acid sound mod and walkman player baked in. +1000 for music lovers.
It has not had any call echos, the gallery note 2 camera and gallery work great. There is the small glitch with the best group pose setting fc.ing but best shot works great and the 4.2 camera is also baked in. Photosphere is a cool little gadget!!
Overall great jelly wiz rom, lots of theme compatability, great battery life and super quick. Benchmarks with stock kernel.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973982
Been running it for a long time. I've also tried Synergy, CleanRom, and a couple others I wasn't on long enough to even remember. I have always come back to Beans due to the great amount of customization and attractive theming. He also pushes updates regularly and responds well to requests and bug reports.
I would at least try out a few ROMs as you start out to pick your own personal preference, as long as you save nandroid backups you should have no problem going back and forth to find your comfort zone.
Simple, if you want trouble free (zero bug), then cleanrom. If you want bells and whistles, but don't mind a few bugs here and there, Bean rom is the one.

I think sTaNdArd RoM or jellyWiz w/ kinda crap mods could be chill

From experience, any cm 10 based ROM seems to kill the battery faster than any TW based ROM. Note I only used stock JB TW kernel or cm 10 stock kernel. Currently I am on eclipse. I will be flashing back to a TW based ROM soon. I love the cm10 but until I can get the same battery life I'll stick with TW. Also, go for jb rom. JB is far superior to ics . Cleanrom5 is my favorite, but others are similar. My only wish is some how we could get a TW/CM hybrid ,but I doubt it's possible
I agree with the CleanROM crowd. Like the name says, clean and stable!
