[Q] Rooted JB 4.1.1 stuck on .23 firmware - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi all,
I'm rooted on JB 4.1.1 but since installing the 10.4.4.23 update OTA I'm stuck. I can't get any further updates neither OTA or by loading them on SD card and doing power+volume exercise. Any suggestion?

I am not sure if you follow the correct step to manually flash firmware on the tf700 using the stock recovery, I will reproduce the steps below just in case you miss it:
1) Download the desired Asus stock firmware (based on your SKU,eg. ww 9.4.5.26 ) *** to downgrade from Jelly Bean you need the 9.4.5.30 firmware***
2) Extract the .zip file somewere on your desktop (the result will be another .zip file, use it for step 3)
3) Rename the extracted archive to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.ZIP" (without the " ") and upload it to a MicroSD card
4) Insert the MicroSD card in your tablet and use this button combination to Power ON and go to recovery --> Start the tablet by pressing Volume Down and POWER togheter for 5 seconds ,a message will inform you that you have 5 seconds to enter the recovery, press Volume UP before the 5 seconds expire.
At this point the device will go in recovery and should start updating your firmware .
Based on my experience, there are two important things to remember:
1. Your MicroSD card MUST BE FORMATTED AS FAT32, otherwise the stock recovery will not see the firmware file, hence the broken Android. I have tried NTFS and exFAT, both don't work. I am very sure about this.
2. You should use your computer to download the firmware and do all the preparation on your computer as well. For some unknown reason, I can never get the stock recovery to see the firmware zip file if I use my tablet to download it. I could just be imagining things, but I tend to stick to what works.

Hi,
But I don't want to downgrade. I want to keep my root and continue with the stock upgrades. As mentioned my last upgrade was the 10.4.4.23 and since that i couldn't upgrade.
Just one more info, I have cleared some of the ASUS bloatware as one of the first thing when on JB and rooted.

The OTA updates work only if all updated files are present and unmodified. If you deleted some files, you either need to restore them to the original version, or install a full ASUS firmware and re-root using Motochopper.

But how do I install full ASUS fw or which one? In regards of Motochopper does it root JB?

The instructions I gave you earlier are meant for a full reflash of any ASUS firmware, not just to downgrade. You can download any firmware and follow the steps to reflash. The reason .30 firmware was mentioned is because those instructions were written when Motochopper wasn't available, and downgrading back to ICS was the only way to root the tablet without unlocking. Luckily, with Motochopper you can now root JB without the hassle of downgrading and updating back to JB.
In brief, if you don't want ASUS Service Center's help to fix your OTA problem, just flash a full firmware as mentioned above (which will obviously remove your current root access) and then use Motochopper to obtain root again.

But that's my problem. I have tried to install the 10.4.4.25 fw and I'm getting the broken android all the time. As in previous post I have cleared some bloatware and that can be the problem. So how to reinstall stock? I understand the Motochopper now.

I had the same issue. Here's how I successfully installed the update.
I made sure no system apps were disabled or uninstalled.
Removed my SD card.
Connected the TF700 to my PC and put the Update.zip file in the root directory.
Disconnected from the PC and rebooted.
That worked for me.
PS. I did lose root but motochopper got it back.

What version of stock fw did u put as the update.zip?

That's your problem, I would guess. You removed system apps or bloatware that were part of the rom.
Hopefully you had it backed up! Restore everything you removed, then try the update again.
If you do not have a backup the stock update will fail.

You can't downgrade just like that, and so far the only method is this, but is not for TF700T.
Anyway make sure "Debug USB" is enabled in Settings/Developer Options and also "Unknown Sources under Settings/Security and use Debugfs for rooting.
Thank you for your response: it's not totaly secure for Infinity .. Is there a method to re install boot without downgrade?

You have to provide us more info, why Debugfs is not working?AFAIK Debugfs is the only safe rooting application for Transformer Infinity, and i used that for rooting my ww 9.4.5.26 device.
BTW instead of downgrading u could use this method to get back to a stock/clean rom:
1)Download the WW 9.4.5.26 firmware from Asus site
2)Extract the .zip file somewere on your desktop (the result will be another .zip file, use it for step 3)
3)Rename the extracted archive to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE" (without the " ") and upload it to a MicroSD card

At this point the device will start in recovery and should start updating your firmware
Finally, root was successfull with Debugfs after removing Asus Sync (?) and several attempts. I don't find the thread I read for...

No, because it is impossible, as far as I know. The only route to go is unlocking your bootloader and installing a custom ROM based on the earlier stock ROM version.

I think he was making a joke since the thread is asking for a "dawngrade" and since its not easy, he asked for a "duskgrade" instead. I agree with you about needing an unlocked bootloader. Maybe there's a way to use the packages from [CWM] Repackaged OTA update 9.4.5.26 US/WW versions and swap blobs? blob our way down the firmware revisions?

I guess that could work, although I doubt anyone in his right mind would downgrade from .26 to .22.
Oh, and i noticed the spelling joke only after replying. Decided to keep my idiotic comment for all to see.

[HOW TO] Flash latest OTA update with unlocked bootloader and TWRP recovery

Hi All,
After reading many threads onto how to get the latest OTA update on my Tablet, here are my final conclusion to get latest OTA update on your Tablet if you are already rooted\unlocked\running TWRP recovery.. [i have tried almost all other methods and they did not seem to work with me]
Here is what i have before starting:
1) Rooted
2) Unlcoked bootloader
3) TWRP recovery
Before starting this process, please backup your system and recovery via TWRP recovery..
FIrst, in order to get the update you will need to revert back to stock recovery.. there is a thread already on this subject in this forum, however, i did a different approach here....
1) download the OTA update for .26 from ASUS support page
2) extract the .zip file for the build and store it in your tablet [sdcard of external card]
3) reboot the tabled into TWRP recovery...
4) select install and browse for the extract file
5) install and reboot.
[this is a very easy process that does not require any terminal commands and worked like a charm]
at this point, your tablet will have stock ROM and stock recovery installed [ you will also lose root access] all your apps before this will remain installed, so, no worries about that...
After this point, you are ready to install .30 OTA update.. here is what i did..
1) Download the OTA update for .30 from ASUS support page
2) extract the .zip file for the build and store directly into the root folder of you tablet
3) reboot the tablet and start again into Android
4) You will get a notification that an Update is detected
5) select the update and proceed with it.
6) tablet will restart and install the update...
after 10 minutes, you are now running the latest OTA update..
you will need to re-root again and install TWRP if you don't want to use stock recovery...
i hope this helps...
Great write up!
I also updated using TWRP, but I used fewer steps. I started by downloading the .30 update from the ASUS site. Then I unziped it, and placed that file on my internal storage. I booted into TWRP, and flashed the file, powered off, powered on, and it booted. I waited while the camera firmware updated. I re-installed TWRP via fastboot, booted into recovery, and flashed SuperUser.
I am not seeing the .30 firmware on the Asus page, just .26 can anyone provide a mirror?

Lost root access after firmware

Hello guys,
I have an ASUS TF700T running ICS. I used motochopper to root it successfully.
Yesterday, I upgraded the firmware when prompted and lost root access; SuperSu app is still there but show an error when I run it because no more root.
I tried to run motochopper again but still I can't get root.
Can someone please help me step by step how I can restore root access? Do i have to update ROM?
Thanks.

upgrading removes root, always, your su executable will still be there but not usable as when rooted.
for this there is a nice app called OTA RootKeeper, which you should install right after rooting, and which lets you make a backup of your root, so that you can temp-unroot when upgrading and restore root when you finished.
you'll have to get rooted again, how, i guess will depend on what version you got upgraded to.

If you upgraded to 10.6.1.14.10 you're out of luck with Motochopper. Asus seems to have plugged the hole that exploit used. Check your firmware version under About Tablet > Build Number
You can downgrade to 10.6.1.14.8, root with Motochopper and then use OTA Rootkeeper as described above.
Dwnld the .8 firmware for your SKU from the Asus Support Downloads site, unzip the file once (resulting in another zip), put that zip into the root of your internal storage, reboot and you should get a notification to downgrade.

I still have problem. I unzipped the file and get another zip jb-mr1-t30-r1-10.6.1.14-10.6.1.14.8-20130514-1751-foss.tar.gz. I copied it into the root of the sd internal storage, but no pop-up window showed-up telling me there is an update , I rebooted the device with no notification and I even tried a cold boot with no sucess.
Is there something i do wrong?
Will all the data be lost when performing a firmware downgrade from .10 to .8 ?

You need to download the firmware, not the source code. Also make sure you get the correct firmware for your SKU (WW, US, etc.).
I made a mistake I downloaded source code instead of firmware, my bad.
Well I think I will give up to try to get back my root access, that too much risk to downgrade and lost all my data. I hope a new motochopper version will implement another exploit to fix that!

MotoChopper wasn't designed for the TF700T, it was just pure luck that it worked so i don't think that a new version will be out soon, but maybe we will be lucky enough to get some other tool which can root the new firmware... time will tell.

[Q] Best sequence of steps to upgrade TF300T 10.4.2.20 running Android 4.1.1

Sorry for the n00b questions. I'm confused by the large number of posts about rooting the TF300T which are for different firmware and Android versions.
I have a TF300T running Android 4.1.1. The firmware is JRO03C.US_epad-10.4.2.20-201212028.
I'd like to upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat.
What is the correct sequence of steps? Some of the posts I read say that the device needs to be unlocked first by downloading a utility from Asus, but I don't see an unlock utility that's made for this firmware version.
Also, I don't have a USB cable for the tablet. Can I flash from a microSD?
Thanks in advance!

The V7 unlock tool from Asus ought to work...just used it about an hour ago on my TF300T with the same firmware version. It's an APK, so just download, install, and run. After that, I grabbed the Jelly Bean update from Asus; their directions say to use a microSD card. Upgraded to 4.2 that way... I expect to be able to follow the directions in this thread to root and install a recovery. Once you do that, the sky's the limit. Good luck!

Basic outline of steps:
1.) Unlock
2.) Upgrade to latest Android 4.2 Stock ROM
3.) Root
4.) Flash recovery from terminal - TWRP 2.6.3.2
5.) Flash KitKat ROM.
Thanks for the tips!
I was able to download both the unlock utility and the 4.2 firmware from this page:
support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=ASUS+Transformer+Pad+TF300T&os=8
NOTE: the direct URLs listed below only work outside of China. See the page above for download links if you are in China or Taiwan
NOTE: the following URLs are for the US firmware version of the TF300T (build number contains "US"). See the page above for download links for other regions.
The steps are as follows:
1. enable installation of applications from unknown sources (Settings -> Security -> check the Unknown Sources box)
2. download the V7 unlock utility and install on your tablet. The tablet will reboot and you will see "device unlocked" in the top left corner during boot. This is the direct link to the V7 unlock utility (this should be downloaded directly from the tablet):
dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/TF300T/UnLock_Device_App_V7.apk
3. download the 10.6.1.8 firmware to your PC from here:
dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/TF300T/TF300T-US_epad-user-10_6_1_8-UpdateLauncher.zip
4. extract the ZIP file. There will be another ZIP file inside. Copy this "internal" ZIP file to a microSD card
5. insert the microSD card into the tablet. The new firmware should be detected automatically and an exclamation sign icon will appear in your system tray. Touch it and follow the prompts to perform the upgrade.
You should now be on Android 4.2.1 and firmware US_epad-10.6.1.8
10.6.1.8 is likely to cause issues with KitKat ROMs. Try to find 10.6.1.27.5 or 10.6.1.27.1.

Thanks again! I can confirm that 10.6.1.8 does not work with KitKat. The tablet simply hangs during boot.
I was successful with 10.6.1.27.5

If you are still on firmware P907AUCU1AND7 from AT&T SM-P907, you will need to upgrade to P907AUCU1ANK2 before P907AUCU1BOH3.
-Putting the updates on your SD Card,

-Apply update from external storage and select the update zip.

The second update might take 5 to 10 minutes to start, so be patient when it unzip the file.

This may be a pretty stupid question, but do I just put the downloaded zipped file on an sd card or do I have to extract everything from the zipped file and put all of those on the sd card?

If you have the needed files, just place them in the SD card directory. Boot into recovery and select y apply update from SD card. The latest update will put you at P907AUCU1BOH5. Just be sure to update each update file in order and for safe keeping boot into the sistem in between to see if it took properly. As for rooting, to this date I have not found any way to gain root access to flash some other OS like Bliss 14.3, which would be fantastic on this device. Even the Bliss os 15 aplha with Android 12 would work amazingly. I run 14.3 on an old HP Stream 11 Laptop (ah-117wm).
