Had anyone encountered this? Been running superSU since I rooted my phone and this is the first time this has ever come up. Any ideas on why and how to some this?

Never seen this... but I have never run antivirus software on my phones...
Here's why.
False detection. That's right, it's only an update away from notifying you that the Play Store is an unwanted application.
Incompetence... Yeah it can detect something, but can it remove it? I remember when I used to run avast on my XP machine, it would detect the virus but couldn't remove it!
They're bloated. For the most part, they eat away at your battery using cpu cycles every hour or so doing unneeded scans. And also unnecessarily scan safe apps just downloaded from the play store.
And lastly... I don't install any non-market apps, which almost completely forgoes the need for any such software. Sure there's plenty of malware for android, but almost all of it comes from 3rd party app store sites (what tech blogs don't tell you about the increasing number of android malware).
So play it safe and install trusted apps from the play store and you won't have a need for malware detection software.
My 2 cents.

Have you ever heard of any viruses from downloading xda apps or mods?

SuperSU is classified as a PUP because it can update itself and has root access. Its not malware, but it is something that could potentially be used maliciously.

Just like antivirus software for computers. There's always going to be false positives.
I use comodo for my comp and phone I get a heck of a lot less false positives than other av software.

I use avast. Has call block features, anti theft, firewall and a few other nifty things. You can install it as root and it survives ROM flashes. Best for android IMO.

It was avast that raised the flag on superSU. I uninstalled it for the moment, not sure if I'm going to go back to be honest.

That's weird I used supersu for awhile and never had that issue. I heard about similar issues a couple of months ago but thought it was fixed. When's the last time you updated your security and why not switch to superuser by koush, much smoother IMHO

Actually, nothing will survive a wipe and flash. If you're rooted, avast does survive factory resets since it can install itself as a system app on ruled phones.

Yo bro, I apologize for not being more precise but next time you wanna correct me, leave out the ignorant part. Don't resort to insults, its shows your intelligence. What exactly is Superuser used for?

I've searched and searched, but superuser comes up with a ton of results all buried in various rom threads. What does superuser do? In the 2 roms I tested out so far, it was in both, but I went ahead and removed it. Any benefits to keeping it? Of course knowing what it's for would help a lot lol.
Super user is used to control which applications can ask for root access.
This way nothing can hijack your device without you knowing first.
in short...it gives the apps that require root permissions (that you download) access to the file system and keeps other potentially "malicious" programs from changing your filesystem
oo. Looks like I better keep it installed from now on. Thanks guys

There might be a few out in the wild though
IIRC there's only 12 viruses in the wild for Linux based systems. Whether they'd apply to Android, idk, but they're apparently just big failures.

bugs are different from malicious scareware. stuff that logs you and f*cks your system up. the only faliures i know of are bugs. but im a vista user, so thats a whole new playing field.

Failures as in they can't do anything unless you actually give them root. (Equivalent of running virus.exe and then hitting "allow" on the UAC prompt.)

Lookout Mobile Security?

What is everyone's opinion of Lookout Mobile Security, or any security/virus scanning app for their Android devices? I have been using Lookout for many months and I don't have any particular problems with it. I have recently flashed a ROM and I am running with limited apps (for the time being) but before I reinstall everything I previously had, I wanted to find out what others think.
I have read some articles recently that suggest mobile security apps are not really that needed as long as the person is cautious about the things they install. This can probably be said about anything that relates to software but do programs like Lookout drain the battery more? Do they slow down our phones? Like I said, I have been using it for many months so I do not have much experience without it.
I look forward to hearing what others have to say.
My apologies if this is in the wrong section. I just realized that I might have been better posting this in Q&A.
Yeah totally wrong section. Q and A or General.
X,
Sent from my Infuse.
Not really needed, unless you plan to install any Chinese/Japanese sex apps like "screaming Japanese girls".
Also be attention to the permission an app needs before you install it. It comes up on the screen when it prompts to install. For example, a wall paper app does not need access to contacts.
yea..i uninstalled a while ago.. i never seen the benefit..
Excellent, yeah that's what I was thinking too. I haven't been running it in a week and even when I did, nothing ever came up. I know that problems can occur with bad apps but like you guys I will just be careful and 'verify' the permissions of the things that I install. Thanks!
I don't think the virus scanning stuff like Lookout is worth it for droida and is kindof a ripoff itself.
However I do use the seekdroid app to help find my phone via location if I misplaced it... which happens every now and then.

Antivirus/Malware & Traffic Monitoring

I am newly registered to the XDA but I have followed for some time now. I have rooted a LG Optimus M as well my AT&T Galaxy S2 Skyrocket ( two separate devices...)
I recently switched to the :good::good::good::good:CM9 nightly builds:good::good::good:. Good so far in that realm minus a weird gallery issue.
My real question is what are people doing about antivirus/malware protection on a rooted phone? I have tried AVG and a couple of others, but the interface doesn't really show what it is doing. I also have a Macbook Pro and use Little Snitch for monitoring traffic going in and out. I can approve or deny traffic on a one time basis or forever. Is there also an app that would provide this type of functionality as traffic going out that I have not approved is generally my first clue that something might be going on.
This is my first post (N00bie) so I apologize if it is not formatted like some of you professional XDA members.
Thanks in advance.

I agree, a lot of people are idiots on the play store. I am not saying it is a bad product, I am going to check out all responses to my posting and see what works best. I don't even mind paying for the app if it truly does what it says.
I was reading an article on my Flipbook (Google>>Don't get faked by Android antivirus apps<<) the other day that said a lot of the Android A/V apps miss a lot of malware. I know these apps can't catch every iteration but really??? 50%??? That is horrible...

This is the same report as the article I mentioned. Good, I am on the right track then...
I installed Dr.Web, but immediately presented with a purchase page. :crying:
I looked over the results of the test and settled on Lookout for now. It seems when I install any app, it will automatically scan that app for me... I like that approach. I may purchase it later... maybe...
I will let you know if I run into any problems with that one... I have to say if you don't have some sort of Antivirus, you may be asking for problems... Seems with rooting and modding that we are doing, you never REALLY know what someone has programmed into a mod or app. I still want something like Little Snitch that monitors all inbound/outbound traffic and lets me decide whether to allow/deny connections....
Would be a nice feature in my mind...

LBE privacy guard.
I've used it for a long while now. Clean, simple, and only presents me with a super user style allow/deny for permission requests. It let's you enable or disable internet connectivity for an app, but not specific requests to specific hosts like little snitch. Its great for other permissions too, locations, contact lists, etc.

tracking software are useless

I lost my phone last week and it was found today because the "finder/thief" return the phone to my service provider after I requested the IMEI to be blocked.
After I got my phone, everything has already been factory reset by the "finder/thief", the SD was missing, we know who probably took it. No wonder whereismydroid and Plan B apps never worked, because they are absolutely useless. All thieves have to do is take the battery and sim card out, go home, factory reset with ODIN or something, all your information and those so called tracking Apps are gone, and Plan B can NOT be installed remotely because your gmail is no longer signed into your phone.
So IMO these apps are useless.
user installed apps? yea they are. its why i flash cerberus as a system app (survives a factory reset). i dont have a pin lock or anything of teh sort to make teh theif want to reset. instead im quite alright with him opening it up and calling/texting whomever he wants cuz ill be tracking him the whole time. chances are the guy who buste dteh window of yoru car to get the phone doesnt know to take teh device get it into download mode and use odin to wipe out the stuff i installed

What is the Best Way to Review Permissions?

I have been spending a lot of time reading about Android security in this forum and realize I've made mistakes.
With my new nexus 5, I have recently corrected most of them. With my last phone, I'm sad to say that I was asking to give my data away.
Here are my new practices...
1. After rooting, I used Boot Unlocker to re-lock the bootloader.
2. I am running the stock recovery and when I need to flash something or nandroid backup, I flash TWRP temporary.
3. I use Tasker to turn USB Debugging off when I disconnect from my home network.
4. I do not share passwords between apps/websites. I use LastPass to generate unique, random, strong passwords.
5. I use 2 step verification whenever possible.
6. I'm in physical control of my phone whenever I leave my house.
But... I have not paid attention to the permissions my apps ask for. Is there an app that shows a permission, and then list the apps that have that permission? I do have Lookout installed, and it's sister app Add Network Detector and all scan OK, but I'm looking for more.
Also, if anyone has any other recommendations, I'd like to hear them. I'm not a fanatic, but in this age of identity theft, I do want to have my eyes open.

I can only second that. If you refuse to use Xprivacy through installing Xposed Framework first, you'll NEVER get to the core of all settings with any other app. Asking for a "best way to review permissions" here but refusing to do something to get there is like not wanting to die but refusing to eat. In short: Get XPrivacy. You won't regret it, believe me.

I didn't want to get into exposed framework because the reason I own a nexus is to flash custom roms.
On my GN, I used AOKP.
But, you have peaked my interest, and I'm going to give it a try. I was enjoying running ART, which is not available in OmniROM yet. Can you use it with exposed modules?

Well, as far as I know, the main developer @M66B is working hard on it to get it to that state. To make sure and get all the latest and greatest information of support, have a peak at the Official Xprivacy Thread. Also, you should bookmark the Xprivacy Changelog to always know what was changed. First of all, please don't talk to me like a kid. Even if your english might not be that good, try to keep it in straight forward language and as simple as possible. In order to use Xprivacy, you NEED the Xposed Framework. Both of them are an awesome invention, I even bought Xprivacy. Now, what is your exact problem with the Xposed Framework? You want to control your apps permissions? Well, having the Xposed Framework installed and adding Xprivacy to it, is the BEST and EASIEST way there is. Point made. If you refuse to because your ego is too big to make a NANDROID first and try it out, then please don't bother people with asking any longer. You can probably feel the stress in my "voice"? Your behavior is uncool.

oh! what made u such mad about me,just simply asked a question!
may be my grammer sux but thou have no rights to rub it into me,got?
so STFU.
OK. I gave xposed a try and went back to omnirom. Omni has some pretty nice security features right now, but when their new google-free dialer and some of the other mods they are planning come out, it will be the way to go for the security/privacy minded android user like me.
what about luckypatcher to remove permission ? is this apk reliable ?
