HTC One (M7/801AGRY) and Samsung Galaxy S4 (i337) - General Questions and Answers

Hi everyone,
I want to buy One (M7/801AGRY) or Samsung Galaxy S4 (i337). Can I root them and flash with Google Edition ROM?
Is bootloader locked or unlocked in CAN ROGERS models?
Thank you!

not sure if there is a google edition rom but if there was i would choose something else. the rom size on the google editions is 450mb when normal cm 10.1 roms like aokp or parandroid is only 200mb. i both devices bootloader are locked but the google editions are unlocked.

There is a ROM for these 2 devices here on XDA. Just search.
It's exactly what you are looking for but has some bugs.
The normal editions should be able to fit your needings just like the Google editions.
Both should be easy to root but i don't recommend to flash a google edition ROM.

Because of bugs? Maybe need to wait a little bit? Or why?

There's an article right here:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/rooted-google-play-edition-rom-for-standard-gsm-htc-one/
Bugs should be mentoined in the threads.
These ROMs are going to get developed very fast because of the huge demand. Just wait a while and stay with the stock ROM.

Love this phone so far, cant wait for root... I'm no expert when it comes to the development stuff. Is this whats needed by devs to figure out how to root?

[Q] AT&T SGH-1497 ROM's

Are / is there a compiled list of ROM's available for the Galaxy Tab 2 from AT&T, SGH-1497? I've got the tab rooted and with custom recovery but haven't been able to find much development or 4.3 ROM's for it. Any direction is appreciated. Thanks.
-NVE
There is nothing more than what you already have unless you want a stock deodexed version. There has been no other development for this version.
Awe, that's less than satisfying. Was hoping for a 4.3 ROM. Any ideas if anything is going to be developed. I'm not a ROM builder by any means.

Honestly I doubt it. Just not very popular with the devs since it is so much different than the unbranded version.
Well pooh. Guess I'll just have to wait for official updates and make it as pretty as I can with launchers / apps. Thanks for the info.

Maybe you could root it and remove the bloatware and stuff..? That should help speed it up.

[Q] Verizon Galaxy S3 remove 4.3 update?

Does this method work on the verizon Galaxy S3? Has anyone tried it to confirm it works? I want to downgrade so I can root and install cyanogenmod which I can't seem to do with the 4.3 update.

Link is broken.
Regardless though, this probably will not work on this device.

Yeah I'm a new member and I just learned I can't post links, yet. but the method is from Androidpit and the method requires using Odin and a .tar file of an older version
At this point I'm pretty sure all methods have been tried to downgrade back to 4.1.2

If you took the OTA 4.3 update, the bootloader is locked and it has blocked ALL earlier factory versions and all non factory ROMS.

I looked up your specific tutorial, it definitely will not work.
That only works on the international model. As a general rule, never trust a guide unless it says it's specifically for the Verizon galaxy s3. It's locked down much tighter than any other s3 models, and many alterations that can be performed on the other variants will often brick this model.

Ah thanks, and that really sucks the 4.3 eats away at my battery like non other and it was the final straw in getting me to look up how to install a custom rom only to learn that I can't...

You can still root, install a ROM with Safe Root or Safestrap or whatever, and have a better-running phone. You simply can't install a different kernel... it sounds like you can even still have a custom Recovery (modified TWRP is my understanding).
OK

I can't post links but if you search for thread number 2565758, that's everything you need for the Saferoot method that works for the Galaxy S3 (usually). I say usually because it doesn't work on my phone but I know plenty of others that have had no issues.

I've already used saferoot but I can't get into custom recovery with it, and I can't use custom ROMs because of the update, that's why I've been looking fr a way to downgrade to 4.1 or something.

Want some advice? Sell the S3 for a pre-4.3 S3 or sell the S3 for another device. Theres no guarantee that AOSP will ever work with Safestrap.

Well I have been considering dropping a bit of money getting a used international S3 because the Cyanogenmod installer would work with it, but I don't think my Verizon SIM card would work in it.

It wouldn't, you need a CDMA device, the international s3 doesn't have CDMA bands. Verizon leaves you pretty limited in device selection.

That's what I thought, so that pretty much just leaves me with Verizon versions of the phone... I'll make sure not to stick with verizon when my current contract expires.

If you are on an unlocked bootloader, there aren't any. If you are on a locked bootloader, there are two you can flash through safestrap. They can be found in the Android Development section.

Be happy then and keep the unlocked bootloader, even without the ability to update to a 4.4 tw rom your really not missing out on much. There are plenty of other custom roms that are even better than tw at least in my opinion

We need to make all the retail versions, developer versions by unlocking the bootloader!
Keep wishing on unlocked bootloader.

They never did it for the s4 so I'm not guessing it's not going to happen here either... I was lucky enough to have an mdk version.
