Hey all
First of All i'm not thoses kind of people who post question without searching and reading, i already did it, so maybe i didn't search enough or didn't get what was explained, so the less that you can do is to give me link who explain my problem.
So how everything start:
My brother got a new phone "Samsung Galaxy Q", but trouble began when he tryed to connect on 3G network. It's Always connect on "E" (Edge) when mine (Samsung galaxy mini GT-s5570) connect on 3G and then on "H"So here's the first trouble.
I tryed the " *#*#4636#*#* " and make it in "WCDMA only" nothing is happening, when i try " *#2263# and make it to "WCDMA All" network disapear, even if i try other wcdma frequency. so it refuse wcdma at all.
So i started to search and planned to flash with the original stock ROM.
But here apaear a new problem: when i searched the firmware on samfirware.com i whrited "SGH-T589R" as it was apearing on the starting screen of the phone (With Fibo). I saw that there was another version of this phone "Samsung gravity smart" (SGH-T589) wich is apearing on samfirmware with T-mobile, so i just wanted to check what's this phone and typed the name on google Images. And maybe it's not a great discovery, but the phone that i've got, have "T-Mobile" writing on top of the phone when Samsung logo is on the bottom, but it's not the case with "samsung galaxy Q". So i was a but confused. The "menu/back/search" keys are visible and white with gravity smart but not with galaxy Q.
The phone that i've got looks like "samsung gravity Smart" (T-mobile on top, and 'menu/back/search" keys whith and visible) but when it's booting it shows "Samsung galaxy Q sgh-t589r". So i decided to download the "samsung gravity smart" firmware and install it.
I already did that with the "sgh-t589r" with Odin firmware and it done successfully, but when i tryed to install the "T-Mobile" firmware with Odin, flashing finish correctly, but when it comes to the Boot screen (Samsung gravity smart exclusivly for Tmobile) it sucks there and nothing is happening
So here's the problems, and now my questions are:
- Do i need to change stock firmware to 'T-mobile' one and leave "Fibo"'s one?
- Is the 3G network trouble (always on E even if i make the right APN settings) comming from stock firmware?
- The Android version is Froyo 2.2, do i have to update it to fix this?

I have a answer for the first question in that you should go to the fibo one as that booted fine for you and is most likely the firmware for your phone. But it might have screwed your phone up when you flash the t-mobile firmware because you never should flash firmware not meant for your phone it might hard brick it. Try flashing with Odin back to the fibo one and if it doesn't work you might have bricked your phone.

If it is not fibo try adding the apns for your carrier. Then it might work properly.

I'm living in Djibouti (East Africa) so Carrier is "Djibouti Telecom", I configured APN in settings, as in the Samsung galaxy mini (that's work fine on 3G).
Here's how APN is configured (as in my Samsung Galaxy Mini)
Name: DT3G
APN: dtinternet
Proxy: Not Set
Port: Not Set
Username: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC : Not Set
MMS port: Not Set
MCC: 638
MNC: 01
Authentification Type: PAP or CHAP
APN Type : Internet + MMS
Everyplace that i let "Not Set" i don't know what to make, and when i'm going to the agency, they just tell me that it gona come by itself, or worst: "you don't have 3G on your phone"
So, the forum is my last chance.

Are you sure that the phone in question has the right bands to handle 3G from your carrier maybe your phone although it could be a 3G phone doesn't have the required bands to have 3G from your carrier and therefore can only get edge.

Here's what i found when i wanted to see my "Samsung gravity smart" specification in phonearena website:
GSM : 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
UMTS: 1700/2100 MHz
Data : HSDPA 3.6 Mbit/s, UMTS, EDGE
Global Roaming : Yes
I tryed to change 3G settings using code *#*#4636#*#*, and there are 5 GSM/UMTS band available when i select "select Band"
Euro Band (doesn't work when i choose it, no transmission)
USA Band (idem)
Japan Band (failed)
AUS Band (doesnt work)
AUS2 Band( dosent work)
it only work when i make it to "Automatic"
I tryed also the *#2263# code, and choosed in the "WCDMA Band preference", "Wcdma all" after that, the "E" disapear to let no network at all, making me to come back to automatic or gsm band.
Ithink I know where comes troubles from:
when i dial *#06# it shown "000000..." as IMEI number, and when i used Root explorer i didn't find /efs folder.
I didn't know that it exist so, i'm not sure i'm the one who deletet it with flash or it was already erased with the "fake" rom installed on it.
Anyway, here's the fact: i've an smartphone with no "EFS" folder, with "0000000..." as IMEI number, and i read somwhere that this folder not only containt IMEI number's files, but also some important files who may have relation with 3G network.
Now i've to look for a solution to my new problem.

I have a previously SIM unlocked Samsung Vibrant that has since been upgraded to Froyo via the official Samsung release.
I am currently using the phone on Telcel Mexico which as I understand it uses the same data frequencies as ATT in the USA.
When I connect to the data network, I get Edge only.
What must I do to get 3G? I tested my SIM in an iPhone and I get 3g with my same SIM in an iPhone.
Try this as it could help both of us.
I found this thread from another source and haven't tried it myself since i haven't been in Mexico yet but i suppose this might help. I also have an unlocked Samsung Vibrant android version 2.2 and already put a AT&T SIM card and received 3G. Ill try this myself whenever i obtain a Telcel SIM.
So follow these steps as it could help both of us.
1. In your android phone, get into:
Settings-> Wireless and Network Settings-> Mobile Networks-> Access
Point Names (APN)
2. Then Create one NEW access point and give it a name, (I'll use: Internet 3G)
3. Fill in the data as follows:
APN: internet.itelcel.com
This is internet.itelcel.com<-------- itelcel has an initial "i"
Username: webgprs
Password: webgprs2002
APN type: default <------ Type the word "default" in lowercase and don't
put in the quotes
Leave all the rest fields with their default values.
4. Restart the phone and when it starts back up you should see the 3G logo
on the status bar.
If that didn't work I'm so sorry. Like I've said, i haven't tried this method yet but i will as soon as i get a 3G SIM card. If this didn't work thy following the steps shown in this thread. It says that Telcel runs on 850 MHz frequency and our phone aren't selected, by the default, to this frequency. There is a way to manually select it to this frequency, though. Once again these aren't my threads and are from outside source.

Hello,
I had this stock rom when i got my phone today....!!!
MODEL NUMBER: GT-I9103
ANDROID VERSION : 2.3.5
BASEBAND VER: I9103DDKH4
KERNEL VER : 2.6.36.3-I9103XWKI5-CL577705 [email protected] #3
BUILD GINGERBREAD.XWKI5
And, both google maps, internet, and weather widgets were working fine.
Now, after i upgraded to 2.3.6 rom (Taiwan), and also upgraded my CSC from INU to BRI.
After this, i am not able to connect to internet nor use google maps.
I changed the vodafone apn settings a lot of times (from "www" to "portalnmms" and others). Still i am not able to connect to internet.
If i somehow flash the INU csc, will this issue go away? If yes, can someone provide me this CSC file???
I think there is some problem with 2.3.6 rom itself..
Please comment..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20672631
This is the indian ROM. You can extract the CSC from the ROM and try flashing it.
Did you install BRI or any others? this is a multiCSC ROM.
Hope you followed this "If you do not know your IMEI, go to Phone, call *#06# and write down your IMEI. Then go to Phone and call *#272*IMEI# It will ask you what CSC you want. Do NOT take TWM (Taiwan Mobile) or CWT (Chunghwa Telecom Taiwan). Take BRI or TGY or KOR. Click Install. "

Hello ishafiq,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, i did follow legion1911's suggestion to flash the BRI or the KOR csc..
Now, i debugged this issue further by going back to my backed up data using CWM before i even started doing anything on the stock rom.
Crazy it sounds.. after i restored the original settings over the indian rom (that you provided), i was not able to get the gprs working..
Let me spell out my vodafone settings for your info...
Name: vodafone_gprs
APN: www
proxy: not set
port: not set
username/password: not set
server: not set.
mmsc/mmscproxy/mms port: not set
MCC: 404
MNC: 86
authentication type: none
APN type: internet
I even sent sms "VL" and "ACT VL" to 144 (vodafone toll free), and got the settings downloaded on my samsung Galaxy R, and installed them. Even after that, i am not able to surf net, market or gmap.....
Can you try GPRS in a virgin state without any apps? Just worry any network monitor app is blocking it?
Reset the network settings and try again.
Try this if in case above doesnt work~~
apn: portalnmms
proxy to:10.10.1.100
Port:9401

Issue rootcause found and addressed.
Hello All,
I found the root cause for this issue. My account balance was 0 as i was using the prepaid sim. But, just yesterday morning i had a currency of Rs 120 and just after i used it on my brand new samsung galaxy R, i dont know how it came down to zero so quickly after toying with it for few hours (didnt download any apps, just used the google maps for 20 mins, and news/weather widgets).
Just to reiterate you folks, 2.3.6 rom doesnt have any issues with EDGE connectivity.. as i stated previously.
Hello Ishafiq,
Have you seen dtmf tones working on our phone? they dont seem to work during an active call.
Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9103 using Tapatalk
Which one describes DTMF tones better in terms of relevance and use ?
Dual-tone multifrequency
A method used by the telephone system to recognise the keys pressed when dialling. Pressing a key on the phone's keypad generates two simultaneous tones, which are decoded by the exchange to determine which key was pressed.
OR
Source: LG Knowledgebase (I can't currently post a link so plz google 'LG Knowledge base What are DTMF tones?' you'll get the source )
Each DTMF "tone" is actually two tones - a low-frequency tone and a high-frequency tone – combined (hence the name "dual tone multi-frequency".) If viewing the phone keypad as a grid, each row represents a low frequency, and each column represents a high frequency.
In all, seven different frequencies are assigned. Some numbers will have the same lower frequency, but different higher frequency. Others will have the same higher frequency but a different lower frequency. The range is between 697 Hz and 941 Hz for the lower frequencies and 1209 Hz and 1633 Hz for the higher frequencies. There are actually eight different tones.
Mobile phone networks use digital signals instead of DTMF for direct dialing, but DTMF is used over mobile phones to navigate automated systems such as phone menus, voice menus and other advanced calling services. It is also used for control purposes, such as an automatic bill-paying service, or remote control of appliances, such as a telephone answering machine.
If none of them or if you have a better explanation then can you please tell what is its relevance and what are they used for ??
Austria 2.3.6 firmware is released, and it works fine with vodafone banaglore

Hey all,
I just moved to France with a i9020a Rogers phone. According to this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Google_Nexus_S) my phone can cover the 2100 frequency band and according to this (http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html) France's 3g frequency is 2100. I just got a SIM card and my text and calls seem to be working, however, I can't use data at all. Any ideas?
Phone info:
Type: Rogers i9020A
ROM: 4.0.3 stock
Kernel: eugene's
Radio: UCKE1

I tried following the steps below, however, after deactivating and activating my phone radio and pressing menu my phone just went back to the home screen. I remember doing this with gingerbread and having a new screen asking which country and provider I had. Can anyone else do step 5 with ICS?
1. Go to Dialer. Dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. Go to Phone information. Choose the preferred network to
"GSM Auto PRL" or "CDMA Auto PRL" or whatever you have.
3. Scroll down, deactivate and activate Phone Radio.
4. Press Menu button.
5. Select Phone frequency, then choose your country.
6. In the previous menu push the Home button to go back to Homescreen.
7. Reboot.

Gotten edge working
Update:
I have tried flashing several different radios with no luck. I did find that I did not have any APN settings so I found the APN settings for my provider (http://mobile.free.fr/faq-config-apn-autres.html) and now I have EDGE .
Since I can only have one APN configuration selected at a time how do I configure the MMS to work? Will configuring it under a new configuration work or do I incorporate it into my current configuration.
And of course I still can't get that blasted 3G to work.
Any help would be appreciated!
Solved:
After flashing my original radio (UCKE1) on my phone my 3G is now working . To configure my MMS (for free mobile anyway) I used the APN settings provided by Liel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452220). I hope this helps anyone who's having trouble in the future.
Cheers!
All right, so, I have tried everything I can think of, but nothing has worked, so I decided to try asking here. I am have been on the CM10 builds for about a week, and I am loving them. I never really liked sense, so an AOSP JB rom is great (aside from the battery life). Before CM10, I was on ViperXL, and LTE worked fine, but after switching to CM10 (or any other AOSP roms) it just stops working. I can get everything else, Edge, 3G, and HSPA, but LTE just won't work. Just a couple hours ago I did a wipe and a clean install of the October 3rd nightly, and I am still having the issue.
One thing I haven't tried is flashing a 4.0.3 rom, and then the CM10 rom, but the FAQ says that issue has been fixed so I doubt it would help.
Anyway, thanks in advance for the help!
Check your APN settings. These settings worked for me.

I've had the exact same issue. I'm on Rogers too. I've double and triple checked the APN (ltemobile.apn) and it is definitely correct. I first noticed this on PA, and now get the same thing on CleanROM. Yesterday, I ran the Rogers RUU and that got LTE. So I went back to CleanROM (same radio image) and now only get HSPA. If I try to use the ltemobile.apn APN it fails with the message "Connection failed due to incorrect APN setting." Hope this info is useful for anyone with educated guesses

From my experience i've had no issues with Rogers LTE on Sense roms and CM10. I would probably try deleting the APN and re-adding it.
I'd also check the network type. In dialer, dial *#*#4636#*#* and under Phone Information check that the network type is set to 'GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto'
Beyond that, trying running the latest Rogers modem/baseband. I'm using 0.18as.32.09.28L with no issues.
I've only had my One X a week so beyond this, i'm out of ideas.

there is an option in setting...you have to change from wcdma to lte...in mobile settings...
i can confirm lte works with cm10...worst case try flash a 4.0.3 rom then flash cm10..
Here's my experience: you no longer need the sense flash method. Make share you do a system, factory, cache and dalvik wipe. Do system and factory twice, as it did not always 100% work for me.
Then boot up. Go to apns and delete all the non-lte ones. Set the lte/wcdma/gsm setting there.
Next go to *#*#4636#*#* in dialer. Check phone information so that network says lte/gsm(prl).
Reboot and hopefully it will all stick.
Also I noticed that the default lte APN has port 80 and not MMS port 80. Make sure that is correct

Okay, I've made some progress on this. I did a factory reset and system wipe from TWRP recovery then re-installed CleanROM 5 from scratch. When it booted up I added the ltemobile.apn APN. This time it successfully connected to the APN, but it still did not get past HSPA. I then booted back into recovery and replaced /system/build.prop with the build.prop from the Rogers 1.94.631.3 stock ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812544). When it booted up it got LTE coverage.
So there must be something key in build.prop required to get LTE to connect. I've attached the two build.prop files in case anyone with trained eyes wouldn't mind diffing them and suggesting what setting might be the key to unlocking LTE.
With CM10 I had to delete the APNs and re-add them, even if they were correct. Not sure why.

Any chance you have figured out how to get it working on CM10? I tried the other suggestions, like deleting the apns and then entering them again, wiping everything, and I checked that the network was set to lte/gsm(prl). Still no LTE unfortunately.

Nope. I'm still rockin' HSPA on CleanROM. Some day I will probably mess around with the build.prop to see if I can figure it out. I really have no idea though. You should try running the RUU just to see if you get lte like I did.
Just got LTE working on Rogers with CM10, finally!
1.) First, I flashed the official stock Rogers ICS Baseband/Modem. You can check to see if you already have the correct modem by going to Settings, choosing About Phone, and checking your "Baseband version".
2.) Second, I corrected the APN settings that come default with CM10. The APN for ltemobile.apn need to be change, since the CM10 settings incorrectly set the Port as 80 (should be left blank), set the MMS port as blank (should be "80"), and set the APN type as something along the lines of 'default' (should be either "*" or "internet + mms"). Make sure you click the menu hardbutton and choose "Save", and go back and check to see that it did indeed save. I also selected the Rogers LTE amonst the list of the four different APNs (Rogers, Rogers LTE, Rogers Tethering, Rogers WAP - not sure if this last step makes a difference but this is what I did anyway).
3.) Go to your phone dialer, and type in *#*#4636#*#*. A "Testing" menu should pop up. Select "Phone information", scroll down to the bottom and under 'Set preferred network type", I chose "LTE/GSM auto (PRL)".
4.) Voila, this worked. I did not need to restart, just gave it a minute and the icon changed from H+ (HSPA+) to 4G (LTE). You can confirm LTE status by either doing a speed test and seeing the results, or go to Settings, scroll to the bottom and choose "About Phone", then "Status", and under "Mobile network type" it should say LTE. On mine it said "LTE:13".
Others, please experiment and try to see if you get the same results.
Cheers

This I think is the main thing. I'm on AT&T but up until just recently every time I flashed an AOSP ROM I had to go into this menu and set it to LTE/GSM. It would always default to WCDMA Preferred for some reason. It doesn't happen anymore but it used to happen every time I flashed an AOSP ROM or even when I rebooted. I had to change it and then it would be fine until I rebooted again.
Thanks, this worked on my SGH-I727R on Rogers.
I wonder why the apn settings load wrong in CM10 when the system reads them from the SIM card...? This never happened to me on previous aosp ICS roms.

It's funny you posted this. I am on AT&T and recently I have not been able to get tethering devices to work, but up until recently, I have never had a problem.
my bud has the same phone unrooted with rogers gonna check his apn settings and see if they differ.
K well I just got off the phone with rogers. All the APN setting are fine but still no tethering. Well if it don't won't it don't work. If anyone is successfully tethering on cm10.1 build Jan 12 2013 with Rogers plz let me know.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I just purchased a used Galaxy S2 SGH-I727R skyrocket that was originally purchased from Rogers in Canada a year ago by the original owner. The phone was completely stock with stock Rogers firmware, most up to date version 4.0.4. The phone box shows LTE DUAL BAND 700MHz/AWS as the capable signal bands on this phone. I'm not sure if any of these are blocked on the Rogers custom firmware.
I unlocked the phone and tried to use it on Fido LTE network, which works on the same network as Rogers as it is part of the same parent company now. However, my phone will not pick up the LTE signal, no matter what. The SIM is brand new from Fido on their new LTE network that I got just 2 weeks ago. The SIM is properly provisioned for LTE as after installing sim in the phone, the apn settings window automatically populates with FIDO LTE settings (ltemobile.apn and ltedata.apn for tethering). I also have a full LTE and 4g data plan.
As LTE would not connect, I entered fido's regular 4g/3g settings as a separate apn and the phone connected right away to the 4G network (with very good speeds, DL up to 11MBps and uploads up to 2-3 MBps). I'm in the downtown Mississauga area right beside toronto and this area is fully covered with LTE. I tried using the 'data roaming' option to see if there was any difference, I tried to manually select fido in the 'network operators' section etc but playing around with these options generated zero success.
I looked up forums on Fido where even though this phone is not in their line up of supported devices, their helpdesk suggested that any Canadian LTE phone with proper fido lte data plan and proper lte sim should work on LTE. I even drove around in areas near my house where I've seen a friend use Fido's LTE signal on his Fido htc one device, but no success on my phone.
***Some people have activated proper LTE signal on their Google Nexus 4 American phones for use in Canada by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and then going into the following menu's 'phone information' section to select LTE or a different PRL option with LTE. I tried to do the same thing but when I enter this hidden menu's 'phone information' section, my screen blanks out, phone becomes unresponsive and after a minute or 2 I get a message that some android system file was closed etc. I tried de-activating the data connection and tried to enter the same menu option but same end result. I thought maybe rooting the phone will give me access to this menu but even after successful root, my phone blanks out when entering that 'phone information' menu.
Can anyone suggest something or help me figure this out please. I have a feeling the PRL or LTE option needs to be selected manually here and I need to access that menu. Since FIDO LTE network on Rogers existing LTE network was activated a year later, there may be some updates needed in this area (as the phone was originally set up for Rogers LTE from a year ago).
OR, should I just call FIDO support, and assuming they help me with a non-fido phone, try to get this sorted out with their techs?
Thanks
weird when you say the box says "aws", rogers doesnt support aws as far as i know, wind uses aws, i cant find my box to check
did you perferm a factory reset, which modem are you on
EDIT: phone does support aws, but cant see why it would state it on the box if its from rogers
Because the LTE networks are running on AWS and in some cases 2600 MHz frequencies by the big providers in Canada. Even thourgh only Wind/mobilicity use the new AWS for their regular 3G/4G networks, the LTE with Rogers/Bell/Telus is on AWS while their regular non-lte signals are still on their standard gsm bands.

k, but did you check which modem you are on
did you perform a reset.
u stated you entered this, *#*#4636#*#* you should of not received errors(but i tested on jb)
try this for band preference *#2263#
try a working rogers lte sim card and see what happens
are the fido apns the same as rogers
try the rogers apns, used to work for the 3g when i was on fido but that was b4 they offered lte
last resort but maybe your best option, flash stock w/odin, howto in my sig

Thanks again for your help. I realized later on that I got the non-LTE sim card from Fido, so I went back yesterday and got an LTE sim card and had it activated. However, I can never get LTE even though a person sitting beside me on her Rogers S3 with the exact same apn (as I realized rogers and Fido have the exact apn's for LTE network, ltemobile.apn) is getting LTE. I know Fido is the value brand, so they get secondary priority on LTE, which is ok but I realized the problem below:
WHEN I had the non-LTE sim and even with the LTE sim now, one option has never worked. In the mobile network screen, I'm supposed to have just the Ltemobile.apn (Fido and Rogers LTE) radion button selected and Ltedata.apn (for tether) as the default options. These are also built into the rogers stock rom and this phone is originally a rogers a phone. My friend's S3 has the same 2 apn's listed while she's connected to rogers LTE (her's is micro sim, I couldn't try it on mine). With these options, I CAN'T connect to ANY data network at all. I can only do calls, no data. I tried doing batter reset, restarts, change the LTE/HSPA and HSPA etc settings, no luck. The ONLY time I get data is when I manually enter the non-LTE apn settings as a separate apn (Fido-core-appl1.apn) and it connects to 4G. The speeds were good earlier but since changing to the LTE sim, the same 4G keeps disconnecting or it gives much much lower speeds.
As per your suggestion, I followed your thread to re-install the stock rogers ICS rom with odin. Even after that, no change at all. I tried using the *#2263# option to change LTE band to 7 or auto, but no luck as this phone's hardware is only for 700 MHZ or AWS, of which rogers uses the 2100 on pretty much all their devices. At this point, I don't know what to do. I've followed everything from Fido site with LTE phone, LTE apn, LTE sim and LTE data plan, but the phone doesn't even recognize the ltemobile.apn unless I enter the regular Fido apn.
Should I change the radio/modem on this phone to something else or try the JB roms? Do you think that may make a difference, or is this something else, where LTE apn is not even recognized for data. Someone please help, my first phone upgrade after 2.5 yrs has been a complete buzz kill lol.
theres is a method when using *#2263# in picking the lte settings, ill search for the posts as i cant remember the exact details
if you lived or work near me i could test it out for you, bolton or toronto near yorkdale, since its a second hand phone you cant rule out hw failure, but you would need to test it out with a rogers lte sim card.
did you try manually searching for available networks from mobile settings
edit:k i found it, its old and uses the rogers older apn, try with that one or whatever fido phones uses now which i think would be the "ltemobile" apn, if already set then just goto the "power off" phone part
-.go to settings/more/mobile networks/access point names
Now click bottom left haptic button followed by Add apn
now either copy exactly what comes up in your apn Again and hit save
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn

Click bottom left haptic button and click save
and select it
then power off phone and remove sim card
then reboot phone (no sim card)
and when up go to phone and dial *#2263#
Select Lte Settings
All bands
then bottom left haptic button / end
Open dialer again.
Dial *#2263#
select automatic
Right bottom feedback button/end
power down
now place sim back in phone
reboot
make sure apn is selected you created
Thanks Vincom. If there is a HW problem, that would really suck but it's hard to see that would be the case if everything else is working fine, inlcluding 4G. And it would be great to know how that band selection process works, as I don't wont to select the wrong option and be stuck with a non-working radio.
I'll give Fido tech support a call and see if they can figure this out, but it's unlikely unless there is something wrong with my plan (LTE plan not activated, unlikely).
Let's say even if I were to have to check the phone (driving to Yorkdale area is no big deal), what would you test on this anyway?
Thanks
Actually let me try out the options you later added in your post above
Thank you, it worked!

Thank you x 1,000,000 Sir, I owe you big time. I've spent last 3 days non-stop on this phone while my wife has been complaining I haven't left my phone since I got it. Now I can go home today and spend more time with her lol.
Here's how it worked: I just copied the ltemobile.apn default settings into a new apn, which I saved with a different name (so that I could keep the original default settings saved separately). As soon as I saved the new apn settings (did not enter anything in the 'apn type' field) and wala, LTE came on. For some reason, even with the same settings exact default settings, it wasn't recognizing the saved apn but the newly created one was picked up right away. Tried the speed test in square one area at work, 21Mbps down, 12Mbps up, wow (coming from my old 3G phone, this is amazing).
I didn't even have to go through the rest of the process with band selection etc., as this is a Rogers phone on their network, so those settings should'nt be changed anyway.
Thanks again. I think I saw some posts on fido forums with other people complaining about stuck with 4G on non-fido phones. I'll update those forums as well.
Happy new year to all
I just make a new son ltemobile.apn and it sticks even on reboots
