I've read that rooting should be based on models and baseband versions. Im not sure about this. Can anyone have any links or tutorials which i can follow to root my s3?
Thanks in advance.

I don't think it's based on broadband and those things.

SuperUser manages root access means which app should be granted root permissions and which app shouldn't.
CWM is a recovery. By this you can do a full backup of your phone (it's like backing up the current state of phone), you can do a factory data reset when it's needed through CWM and most important you can flash new ROMs through a recovery.
Other recoveries TWRP recovery and Philz Touch recovery.

Titanium Backup backups app + data. It's best if you only want to backup some of your apps. And CWM recovery do a full backup of your phone.
And now since you've rooted your phone so install some custom ROMs like CyanogenMod or AOKP and have fun.

I don't use CWM recovery but looks like you need to update your recovery.
Or just f*ck CWM. Search for TWRP in your forum and install it ..

How do I go about rooting my NS that has 2.3.3 already installed? I've looked about but none of the threads say whether there method works with stock 2.3.3. Thanks for your help. Be nice if you could point me to the guide that works. Thanks.
Sent from my Nexus S using stock Android 2.3.3 and XDA App.
If you're unlocked (you can see an open padlock under the Google logo when you boot up), you can use the MoDaCo superboot installer (I think that's what it's called). Worked easily for me.
http://android.modaco.com/content/g...-colour-revert-superboot-rooting-the-nexus-s/
If you're not unlocked, I don't know. I know how to unlock it, but I couldn't get ADB to recognize my device under 2.3.3 (only 2.3.2), so I couldn't do the adb devices and fastboot devices commands in command prompt.
Yea I'm locked down. I thought someone would of posted up a specific 2.3.3 Stock root by now. Ill keep looking I guess.
Sent from my Nexus S using stock Android 2.3.3 and XDA App.
AllGamer created a good guide over in the Development forum.
You need to unlock the bootloader for that method.
I used that guide to root 2.3.3
I don't think anything has changed in 2.3.3 that would stop you rooting your phone using AllGamer's guide, certainly worked for me.

Superboot requires an unlocked bootloader as well.
Superboot mods your kernel.
Superboot doesn't install clockwork recovery, so you're still going to have to go through all those steps in the non-superboot methods.
Superboot's great if you want one click install of the su and superuser.apk files, but it's only a half-solution in terms of getting other things that most modders/rooters are after (custom roms, custom kernels, etc).
So what's the best way to go? I only want to install a Kernal on Stock 2.3.3 and obviously that requires root first. Help please. Mac guide is no good I'm on windows

The steps should be the same. Basic concept is:
Get the drivers for windows by installing the sdk or pdanet.
Fastboot oem unlock the phone (totally wipes your phone, including pics and stuff on sdcard).
Fastboot flash the clockwork recovery image.
Apply the superuser installation zip while in clockwork recovery.
Ok gonna give it a go later. Hope it works. Thanks for everyone's help. Been trying to put off Modding my NS as I don't wanna mess it up but can't resist anymore lol.

I believe you need to be deodexed to install themes...
Did you root yet? Any problems?
Yes rooted and installed Netarchy kernal and Honeycomb boot screen lol. Any apps i must have on a rooted device? and is there anyway to theme without installing a ROM?
EDIT: Think i noticed a mistake in 2.3.3, When connected to USB it says "Turn off USB storage" when it should say "Turn on USB storage" - bit weird.

Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Titanium backup, root explorer, shoot me or drocap2, quick boot, ROM Mgr, adb Wireless...
And, again, you have to de-odex services.jar to theme. You have to de-odex everything else to do that, so no, you can't on a stock rom out of the box, but you can get a deodexed stock rom mod. Everything's stock except the odex stuff has been shoved back into the apks.
Thanks. I have more memory free now on Netarchy kernel and I've got voodoo colour on which seems better. Was a bit hard getting root but just read up on the problems I had and got it sorted. Loving it now. Lol. Thanks for everyone's help.

If you find out how to get the phone working again, please post. I tried to sbf after loading miui rom because i couldnt get back to cwm. Now I am stuck. Any help would be great.
After I accidentally accepted the 629 update my phone was "bricked" and wouldn't boot past the bootloader. VZE sent me a new one, which also wouldn't load past the bootloader after I tried to run Pete's Root.
I was able to successfully get the phone to work by flashing 608 over 629. However I may have done something else at the same time, because this only worked two times out of about a half dozen I tried. Not sure what I did differently those two times and don't want to spend the time to try again - especially with no CWM backups to revert to.
But I was able to get the phone up and running with some version of 608 sbf.

thank you guys for your help, i'm already sent to a friend that he is helping us, he's doing his best to became alive our phones.

If you bricked when UPDATING but not AFTER TRIED DOWNGRADE, maybe you can flash back to .608 or.330.Just maybe, if you are lucky that your phone bricked before bootloader updated. Hey guys. I have just recently bought a Samsung i9003 and i want to root it because of too low internal memory card's memory (i want to switch it with external and it requires rooting). Phone's firmware version is 2.3.6, baseband version i9003XXKPM, build number GINGERBREAD.ZHKPE. I am pretty "noobish" at rooting, but i have already rooted my HTC buzz. PLease provide me as much information as you can. Thank you.
The easiest way is to use super one click rooting which involves installing the software and connecting the phone and simply clicking root !!!if u wish to root it and want clock work mode for backup and flashing etc I d suggest u download the universal cf root by Amit and flash that...that not only roots your phone but also gives u access to CWM
Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda premium
If i'll root using one click, can I unroot same way? I don't want to void the warranty. Could you, please, also provide all needed file links? Thanks in advance.
Google super one click.... I think that u can do...and yes u can unroot also...
its simple like 123 click root to root and un root to unroot...just refer general instructions used by other phones or check you tube videos...its the same for our phone too
Sorry I can't provide links..it would be better if u search that ways u l get to learn something and help someone else out with the same problem
Cheers

No u dont need any special releases mate!!!just download the latest super one click and just see a YouTube video of any phone(preferably Samsung since even the UI is the same a also) using it since its the same for all phones....and you can root...its the easiest way and its how I did it a year back when I bought the phone !!!

U cannot root out phone with super one click.. Compatibility issue.. download some cf root and flash it.. Check for it in development section.. Universal cf root by amit..

I had rooted the first time via super one click itself and that was when our phone was in the initial stages of development...that time even Amit s cf-root wasn't there....so as far as I know u can root via super one click and I know u all be scared cause u just bought the phone and all(same case with me too when I got the phone)
So I feel super one click is the easiest and best way!!sorry was traveling so couldn't help u out...just could u elaborate what's going wrong

It's a known issue, it will freeze at step 7, it was patched by Samsung long ago.
You need to use amits universal root.
Just search the universal Cf- root kernel by amit.bagaria. You would have to use Odin software to flash the cf-root kernel (it's easily available even on source forge, xda)
Follow the following steps.
1. Install Samsung drivers on your windows PC.
2. Open the Odin software.
3. Turn off your Samsung galaxy sl, and boot your phone in download mode. (press volume down + home button and then power button simultaneously)
You'd see an Android yellow logo cleaning.
4. now connect your phone to mobile, a box in Odin software would turn yellow and show that you're phone has been connected via com port.
5. Uncheck the repartition option, check reboot automatically and fw. reset. Click the pda button and browse to the tar file you downloaded from the rooting thread of the amit.
6. Press the start button.
The box in Odin would turn green. And phone would reboot.
After restart, just the mobile one again other than the auto reboot.
Voila, you are rooted. And even clock work mod recovery would be installed. Then a lot of options would be enabled in cwm, Google our search on xda for options in cwm.

What program should I use for flashing? Can I unroot same way?
Edit: thanks for full guide can my phone be unrooted same way?
Use ODIN for the flashing procedure...
For unrooting u ll need to flash the firmware again to get it back to stock!!!
sorry about the miss direction earlier, thought u could root using super one click...my bad

For just unrooting, you don't need t I flash the firmware again. This will increase the hassle of taking and then restoring the backups.
There's an option in cwm itself to unroot. Yeah, if you also need to remove the custom recovery mod, you need to flash (not only the firmware, but right from bootloader, csc, modem etc)
Press thanks if helped

We'll let the OP reply, but I think you probably have flashed a custom ROM. Locking the bootloader won't reset the flash counter. Your bootloader is likely locking back.
No custom ROM. Stock ROM - Synergy 1.7. I knew that after you try to relock a ROM working on an unlocked bootloader won't boot. My flash counter is zero.

It sounds like u have Odin a custom ROM and that is y u got the yellow triangle. I believe that they already have a thread of how to remove the yellow triangle....

Thats because you need to odin back to stock before relocking the bootloader. I believe there is a guide stickied at the top of this section explaining this!
If you odin to stock there is no need to relock. I did it 3 times up to know. Flashing stock with odin relocks the bootloader.

True that.... if people have multiple errors i always recommended a good wiping of the phone and system then Odin back to stock and start fresh.
People fail to realize the Odin doesn't wipe you're phone all it does is reinstall the original system over what u got. Right or am I totally wrong ?

So then flashing stock with Odin completely relocks the boot loader then? Idk I think I read somewhere on here that it doesn't but I wanna be sure

Ok so there's no real way of checking? I was only concerned because my first unlock didn't give me a superuser pop up but I clicked unlock anyways and it worked I guess. Rebooted ran app then it asked for access and I just locked and unlocked it again.

Yes it does lock the downloader back down if u Odin to stock.
Once u run the unlock and it asks for superuser permission them it has worked I should be downloader unlocked....
Qualcomm will always state locked wether u r or not....

Yes you have to unlock everytime, but only when odining back to stock....also when you go back to stock make sure you flash the stock kernel also. If you never had a custom kernel then you are ok, but its good measure to avoid the verizon triangle of death!

If he doesn't flash back to stock and relock he does NOT have to unlock his bootloader everytime if he is just flashing a new ROM.

Hi there, we all know that our i9500 comes with a 16GB flash chip. However since samsung squeezed in too much bloatware we have only 8.9GB available.
Now we have an official method by Samsung to expand it to be 11.8GB available to the user.
Before proceeding please know that this will erase all your data including your internal storage, so please make a backup first.
And this method works for me as well as many of my friends, however I do not guarantee success and I do not hold any responsibility if your phone bricks,or your dog doesn't like it or whatever problem you may encounter.
We do this by flashing via Odin a Chinese base firmware kit including kernel, radio, rom ,csc, pit and etc. The "pit" file is a partition table file which contains partition information, so the flash chip will be re-partitioned and thus gives us more user space.
The change starts from Chinese ME5 firmware but I would not recommend ME5 version since the bootloader is locked in some sense and will cause some random problems.
I don't recommend MG9 either since the modem gives problem.
So MG1 is our choice.
I9500ZCUCMG1
You can download it from here:
Let me know if you suffer from slow connection, I can try to make a mirror.
http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=534429689&uk=2250796553
Update I have made a mirror, I included everything except the 2G system img file(due to my internet speed, and the fact that I can't find a free file hosting site for 1.3G file), which you can download easily from sammobile.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/i9500zcucmg1/files/I9500_ZCUCMG1_NoPDA.zip/download
Now unzip the file and you get these:

These files are to be flashed into your I9500 via Odin in Download mode. The adonis_C.pit file is the partition information file that does the magic. However please don't flash it alone. Repartitioning will erase everything including data, system , internal storage and etc, so if you flash pit alone, your phone won't boot because there is nothing to boot.
I assume you know how to use Odin, so please enter download mode on your I9500, connect it to Odin, and select in Odin the files according to this picture and then press start.
Wait for a few minutes and you're good to go! Check if the phone boots and if you get larger storage. If everything is good, you can then flash a custom recovery via Odin, and then flash whatever custom ROM you want.
I believe this will not cause compatibility problems with international ROM since I have flashed WanamLite, Crash, Arrow Rom and got no problems at all. But anyway keep in mind I do not hold any responsibility if your phone bricks,or your dog doesn't like it or whatever problem you may encounter.
Any Q&A please read post #3, I'll keep updating feedbacks from others.

Q: I can't flash official ROMs now, what's wrong?
A: That is a known effect, due to the smaller partition size, only C version Chinese official ROMs will fit in. You will not be able to install B version offcial ROMs via Odin anymore. See Post #11 for details.
However custom ROM are not affected, flashing WanamLite, Arrow, Crush, Omega via custom recovery is tested and working perfectly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45214497&postcount=11
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Can I flash only the pit file and then custom recovery, and then a custom ROM, i.e. skipping bootloader, modem, and system?
A: well, supposedly it should work, however I have not tried it. Others tried and reported success. See post#38 Thanks for the feedback @Faye Reagan
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45237267&postcount=38
What I can confirm is that modem doesn't matter at all, I have flashed tons of modem and there is no single conflict(except for the MG9 fiasco). So you can surely skip the modem if you wish.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Will doing this change my Phone model and thus affect warranty?
A: Yes So please be sure you know what you're doing before proceeding.
My guess is that the changing phone model has something to do with the bootloader included, so you may skip the bootloader and keep your own one if you feel more comfortable that way, again I do not know what is the effect of this. Anyway according to post#38 this should be safe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Can I revert to 8.9G data partition?
A: Yes, as reported by @AL_IRAQI in Post #66
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45250600&postcount=66
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Does it break dual boot?
A: Yes. The system partition is too small for 2 systems. See Post #52
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45245945&postcount=52
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q:will this work for I9505?
A: No. While I do believe same magic will be there for i9505 sonner or later, this is for now for I9500 ONLY.

Hi. Thanks for this info. Would love the extra space. Just a couple of quick questions.
Will it revert the phone back to stock fully??
Will it be possible to root and install custom roms later on?
And lastly does it effect the possibility to unroot and revert to official status if the phone is required to he returned for repairs??
Thanks in advance!!

1 , Yes your phone will be completely stock , which means you lose anything stored in your phone so please do make backup.
2, You can flash a custom recovery and do whatever you want after the process. As I mentioned I don't encounter any compatibility issues despite the Chinese base; but there is no guarantee.
3, Afaik there is no way to reset the binary counter in your S4 so by right warranty is lose if you flash a custom firmware and there's no way to revert.

I have not tried and I would not recommend doing that. The kit comes together with a reason I believe...
Anyway I suppose it doesn't save you that much time, the flashing process is rather fast.
But if you're brave enough you can try.

Yes it's still shown as official, but your product name will become i9500CHN which means doing so totally converts your phone into a Chinese model. You can revert to your country model if you have the KIT for your country.
My guess is the change of product model is due to bootloader. So maybe you can try to skip flashing the bootloader and see what happens... Again do it at your own risk...
I don't care abt warranty stuff so I just flashed everything and i am happy now.

Only chinese C verson ROMs can be flashed via ODIN into 11.8GB available space devices, others version you will get a red FAILED on ODIN.
3 ways can solved this:
1. By flashed a third-party custom roms in recovery like Omega.
2. Flash C version ROMs via ODIN. (zcuCmh1 zcuCmg1).
3. You can modify stock img file and make it flashable for 11.8GB available space devices.
I did a third way and I made it..

well, to be honest Idk.
The 5 file kit is quite a different story from normal fw files, they are not often released. I only have a few Hongkong and Chinese versions of the kit. That's why I suggested you to try to keep your bootloader and see what happens...

Err, so you have an external sd card to put the zip file right?
If that's your case then it seems logical. But I would say again, if you want to try, try at your own risk:good:
