If you are planning to root, flash and all this geek stuff, stay away from Exynos (4 and up)-powered devices. No sources, no CM. I would rather take the Xperia.

Galaxy S3 has some problems getting Release Candidates of CM, and other Exynos4-based devices have theese problems too. I keep reading comments on G+ like "When there is a RC of CM for "xxx" device?" Mostly theese "xxx" are Galaxy S2s, S3s, Notes and others Exynos4-based devices. Well, take a look at this: http://get.cm/?device=i9300&type=RC (Galaxy S3) and compare it with this: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxysmtd&type=RC (Galaxy S GT-I9000) - Exynos 3, when there was the source code released.

If I was you, I'll wait when it'll be on XDA, or buy a Nexus since S3's Exynos has no sources available for devs and ZR has no forums...

Xperia Z for sure. Was thinking about getting one, but for me it was too much expensive.
For S4 there's NO CyanogenMod LOL Seriously. No joke. For S4 GT-I9500 there is a CWM Recovery, but that's it (that's the 8core Exynos variant)
On the other hand, Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 has Qualcomm processor and it has CM - but that's Samsung SGH-i337 for AT&T.

lol
i thought that too
only thing i wud want on xperia z is multiwindow and a touchwiz ui port!!

I just want to say the reason why the exynos 4 chipsets are alive in development is because of teamhacksung and codeworkx. Since the s4 and HTC one has stock android you can choose the s4 if you want that experience . Now if you're looking for something that isn't too costly. Just do what I did and head over to CyanogenMod.org. Look at the devices they support and their chipset. Then make a choice based on their list. Most of their devices have Qualcomm chipsets. Ti OMAP no longer manufactures processors for phones and tablets so if you're looking for something new your best bet is to get a device with a Qualcomm chipset. The xperia z is really nice. I think I saw a post sometime back stating that Google might release a Google edition of the xperia z . It was a rumor so don't hold your breath on that one .

Yeah...we all remember what happened when I ported slim ics... :/
Although...I have been working on a pure aosp jb Rom...its not my top priority (twrp is my top priority) currently it boots but touch is messed up...I'm using cm10 kernel repo and infuse/Aries device repos...so not sure why its so unstable compared to cm10
If I ever do get it stable I may release it...

They should...you had the prob with data/texts/calls...I replyed in your other thread that your problem is likely due to wrong apns...I think by default cm10 ANC other jb roms use att apns...you just gotta figure out the proper rogers apns...
You could probably google "rogers Samsung infuse apn settings" I would assume that would get you results...

I wouldn't expect a build by tomorrow...or anytime soon. this is A LOT more confusing than I thought it would be...the main problem is that slim is based off aosp, not cyanogenmod...also, there is barely any source for slimbean yet...
What makes it confusing is that slim grabs things from sooo many repos...aosp, aokp, cyanogen...etc
Sooooo...with that said...I think I'm gonna try and port slimics from source first since the whole source for that is up...if I can get that going then ill move onto slimbean (for now slimics will be for personal use only...I only received permission for slim bean...after I get slimics working ill contact krarvhind and see if I can upload it for the public...)

Well...I'm working on slim ics, and from there slim bean...
I've also been working on a pure jellybean aosp...although its 100% aosp so its missing a lot of the cyanogenmod10 fixes...so far its like the first cm10 build...it boots, and touchscreen is almost completely un reaponsive
I'm also still working on twrp, I work on all these things everyday...so nothing is paused...when I get frustrated with one project I take a break and work on a different one
(Btw...I'm syncing th slimics repo now...my least favorite part about compiling because it takes freaking forever to do the first repo sync, like 3+ hours for me...)
So...to answer your question, yes/no...a straight aosp jellybean Rom is in the works...but it won't be a port...it'll be compiled from source...if I can get that to work...then I can start making some of my own custom aosp roms in stead of porting them...
I'm still learning as I go...but stay tuned...I have some big plans....

Jelly bean is coming samsung users!

Yeeeees! Samsung heard us (at least some of us) and the Jelly Bean is going to be released for a lot of mid-end and old high-end phones! I have an Ace Plus and even it is going have the candy update! But for galaxy tab 7 and variations owners, bad news .... Better take a look at the news:

It's gonna take a few months, but I'm so happy........... .
Even galaxy mini 2 is getting Jelly Bean
They updated some mid-range, but for me the Galaxy Mini with it's 800mhz processor isn't that able to get the update. But who cares? It's good for galaxy Mini owners!

I'd imagine there will be before too long. With the 3.4 kernel worked out now development seems to be going a lot quicker now as rohan also pointed out. So I think it's likely that issues found in nightlies will be worked out sooner, and thus a stable build can be released.

They're not really "questionable". I think some people place too much emphasis on the nightlies being "unstable". Give it a few days and these nightlies will be working beautifully. I've flashed a whole bunch of nightlies that ran just as well as any stable build I've tried.

For those that have installed CM10.2, do you feel any performance has been gained over longer use considering 4.3 introduced the back-end ability to use FStrim? This would, in theory, take away that laggy feel that we all experience over time from writing and deleting material from our devices over and over.

Now, I'm not planning to change my phone until next year and I also love to be on the new operating systems.
I know many Infuse users share the same thoughts.
We need to help somehow in the development of new ported roms for our phones. We all wanna have the new CM 10.2 and the future CM ROMs. If its donation to our favorite Developers or a helping hand in developing or learning the whole thing and trying yourself (which is what I plan to do) I think its worth it.
I'm new here and these are my views and my first post. Hope other Infuse users feel the same... Terr20114

I can predict with relative certainty that in 20 years there will no longer be an Infuse.

Definitely won't. I'm talking for the next year... 2014. Having an infuse in 2016 is like having a Nokia 3310 today.

android 5.0 is rumored to be more compatible with older devices and while also giving a major boost as far as speed and smoothness and such goes, so if these are true i would believe that we could in fact have KLP
That would not surprise me. 4.3 is quite a technical upgrade, improving the Android platform. It would make sense that would be quite necessary to build new features.
I am running JB 4.3 and i am in love with infuse

Thanks, and now other Infuse users can find em easier. By the way i had some problems with getting root to work on 4.3 but fixed it by flashing super su v1.51 in CWM recovery. I'll send links asap.

To fix the root issue go to settings, developers options, look for root access and change the root access to (Apps and adb)

That didn't seem to work on my phone. The super su fix worked. Its good to have as many fixes as possible. Who knows

Well my friend, I wish we had a crystal ball to see the future of our beloved Infuse 4G.
But I believe we have something way better: Developers with such dedication as Scott and many more that keep our little workhorse up to date. We can proudly boast as of today to the galaxy S4 & galaxy Note 2 owners out there that our phone that came out in 2011 has the latest Android update 4.3.05 while they are eagerly waiting for their carrier to drop an update.
Hopefully we might get android 5.0, but for a unit that was abandoned by Sammy on v. 2.3.6... We have come a loooong way my man.
My respects to all the Devs out there who make this possible for us.

[Q] Stock JB 4.1.2 from sgh-t989 to sgh-t769

Hi everybody...
I'm kinda new to Android...
I want to ask, is it possible to install the stock JB 4.1.2 firmware which belongs to Samsung galaxy SII (sgh-t989) on Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4G (sgh-t769)??
I would say no.

Agree with tommy.

It would solve a lot of problems with development if it did work though.

Just curious, is it possible to port stock jb from sgh-t989 to the Blaze? Could we actually get a taste of real Touchwiz JellyBean?

I think that someone with a lot of porting experience can get this to (partially) work, I have no experience with porting what soever, but I do know Python and learning VB. Would be cool if I could use those in android
I hope someone may consider it. I am learning all this stuff with a lot of effort. I have until now been developing apps only... But ROM dev and porting, and kernel tweaking is really interesting. But you can use python in android...at least in app dev.

Wow, Somcom, you have already done it? Why haven't you posted that awesome ROM on our dev thread? But if you opt to keep it private, i would like to have a taste. Or at least teach me how you ported that ROM. I really wanna be a ROM dev and porter. Thanks for the hope.

Finished it about 3 hours ago.
WiFi is broken, keeping me from relasing.
Wasn't really a port, was more of recompiling the kernel and adding blaze support kind of thing. Only took me 9 hours...
This approach lets people flash any Hercules and skyrocket tw rom.

Do you have like tutorials for porting tw roms from similar devices(Hercules etc)? I would like to learn that. If not please give me some guidelines. I would really be thankful. Anyways you know a lot of stuff, have you ever considered passing that expertise to others? Oh well, i know there are a lot of tutorials on everything all over the forum and stuff, but maybe your way is different. You have done a lot of dev work, that's what i mean.

Ha ha.
No tutorials it's all prior knowledge.
Well here's how this project came to be :
1) read this thread
2) downloaded the source code
3) diffed the defconfigs of herc, the cm t769 and the ics apex one.
4) compiled a kernel
5) repacked boot.img
6) didn't boot
7) replaced my uber kernel with the compiled kernel
8) booted, no network, wifi, gapps.
9)Repeat 4,6,8, and 9 five times. 10) debug ril. Fixed
11) post screen shot
12) go to sleep

Thanks Somcom, I'll try that. But my ROM will probably get stuck on the bootscreen, or systemUI or android.core process will keep crashing , coz that's what happens to all my Roms. But thanks alot. I hope to see the 4.1.2 tw ROM soon. GREAT DEV WORK, REALLY GREAT...
Forgot to mention flash isn't working too

They are linked to the libhardware_legacy.so lib, which can't be easily modified.
