Hi
I'm not going to lie but I am pretty new to this. I wanted to upgrade my xperia tipo from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2 and have researched and read about how to do it. I read that apparently the phone cannot be rooted with the firmware 11.0.A.22 so it had to be flashed to 11.0.A.16 and then can be rooted. I did this successfully and kept a backup. Then I read that a phone cannot be rooted without bootunlock and tried to do this but it said my phone root ( or lock) access was no.
*Q1. Does this mean I cannot root the phone at all?
*Q2. Also would I be able to get it unlocked from a shop perhaps?
So as I cant root it yet at least I wanted to return my firmware to 11.0.A.22 but flash tool wont let me:

*Q3. Can someone help me and answer my questions please! Would love to have an upgraded tipo as all other sony phones are a bit expensive! At least until payday!
*But my last question is, is it even worth upgrading it from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2?
Thankyou :good:
Not worth voiding your warranty. Just use rom for locked bootloader. You can still root on .22. Have you tried pc companion - repair? Unlock from shop with unlock: no? Tricky, but there is no testpoint method yet for tipo. For me, 4.1.2 is great if it comes directly from sony official update, as long as my HD games run as fast as the old ics v27/v22.

How to root already updated fiemware
Hi,
I am very new to this forum.I want root my xperia j , th problem is i have already updated my firmware to 11.2.a.0.31 ... 4.1.2 jelly bean.
Now i want to root it. I searched the forum didnt get any satisfiable walkthrough. please help me.Do i have to downgrade to ICS.
Maybe not. Have you tried srs root? It works on a brand new c1605 e dual with jellybean update, the 11.3.a.2.1. If not working, you may have to get the ics .ftf files.

Hi everyone
My Xperia J brought Android 4.0.4 with 11.0.A.7.8 . "Bootloader unlock allowed: No" and locked to Vodafone PT.
I rooted with success. I do not need to unlock the bootloader, rooted is enough (titanium backup and uninstall some operator garbage).
Update center is requesting autorization to install 11.2.A.0.21 . After a fast googlification i read about complains with 4.1.2 on Xperia J.
There is any satisfied/not satisfied owner os this smartphone and 4.1.2? It is easy to root 4.1.2?
Many thanks and a cold beer : )

Yes, my phone is faster with Jelly Bean than with ICS.
I rooted 4.1.2 following this steps :
1- I was in 11.0.A.7.8 branded Vodafone;
2- Flashed 11.0.A.7.5 CE (unbranded) with flastool without wipping data;
3- Rooted with UnlockRoot;
4- Update over the air to 11.2.A.0.21;
5- Reinstalled Superuser from the Play Store.

Well I can tell you that Jelly Bean ( the 11.2.A.0.21 ) is actually better. The lag is almost gone( not completely gone, the J seems to lag but when that does just lock the screen and wait for a few moments- 1-2 mins max- and then the lag will go away). The main issue with the ICS version is that the lagg appears and you have to restart the J in order to get rid if it. With Jelly Bean the lagg goes away easier. Games also work nicely with Jelly Bean ( I've tried Subway surfer with ICS and it lagged when the surfer dude started to run fast but now with Jelly Bean that problem is almost gone... the lag goes away very fast).
The main issue that I have with the new update is the free RAM. Right now I can only sustain about 90mb of free Ram as with the ICS I had about 140-120mb free, sometimes even 170. So that is the biggest problem for me .
As for rooting the previous post works just fine if you have OTA update. But since PC companion tells you about the new update I guess you have OTA update.
So from my experience Jelly Bean does work a little smother then ICS and the lag( even though the lag appears somewhat faster than with ICS, it goes away a lot faster).
I would recommend you to upgrade to Jelly Bean.

Unfortunately no. That is if you would like to flash Custom ROM's.
If you want to flash a stock Rom you will be able to ( for example I flashed Jelly Bean on to my Xperia J and I have a locked bootloader).
If you want to flash a custom Rom ( let's take for instance CynamogenMod ) you won't be able to because that requires you to also flash a special Kernel and that can not be done with a locked bootloader.
I'm in the exact situation that you are... locked bootloader and impossible to unlock....
Soooo ... rooted mobile with unlockroot pro (free) , them updated OTA to 4.12 and the root survived muuuhahahahahaha
Many thanks to all who helped me. free cold beer
I clean up all those useless aplications (sony and Vdf) and i'm 100% satisfied, i do not need to change ROM. Maybe in the future i'll need to do that trick to enable Link2SD to mode applications to memory card instead of internal storage.
Hi All,
I have been a samsung user from the last 2 years and quiet familiar with rooting, custom Roms and flashing, recently i got a samsung xperia E (Single Sim) and using the official sony boot unlocking method tried unlocking but sadly after the whole process went smooth i ended up in boot loops.
Can anybody help me as to how do i review the phone back or go back to stock rom again? Unlike samsung where we only have Odin and Sammobile for all firmware in sony there are so many different version of flashtools floating around and i can't seem to find a stock Xperia E firmware.
Can anybody be kind and post links to the tools required for flashing and the site where i can get a custom rom if any or stock roms to get the phone working back.
You can try sony emma. Its still beta, but some people say xperia e firmware is in there. You did unlock bootloader from sony, so it should return the phone to unrooted, but unlocked phone. As for flashtool ftf, if you can remember what version it was, you can try search google. Most important, charge the battery by other way (another phone, clip-based battery charger)

Hello,
Did you get your phone working again? If yes how did you do so? I wondering this because i have the same problem as you and I installed the firefox via emma but there was no original update available.
how i solved xperia e bootloop after unlocking bootloader
Ah finally after the million times xda has helped me time to give something back....
first i bought my shiny new xperia e a week back..
used the official sony bootlocker unlock method (which ran smoothly) only to
find myself in a bootloop!
after a lot of exhaustive research i finally fixed it ...
first download sony`s superb "Update Service" its totally free a google search and ul get it.
next get the latest flashtool( androxyde.github(dot)io)
now ur going to need a locked bootloader for xperia e... incredibly luckily i was able to find this ( forum.xda-developers(dot)com/showthread.php?t=2212259 ) which is exactly what u need but for xperia e dual (which is not a problem at all.. its stable and works perfectly on single sim also)
now that u have alll this...
install flashtool.. put the ftf file u got in the flashtool/firmwares folder..
start ftool click the thunder icon.. flash mode.. select the ftf file .. click ok.. then unplug ur phone and boot into flash mode ( vol down key + usb cable insert)
now if all went wel lur phone has a locked xperia e dual sim bootloader..
now all u have to do is install update centre and update ur phone..
Peace.

I've been a Samsung user the last years too, and i just got my brand new Xperia E. I was following Sony's guide on how to unlock the bootloader, and I had the same problem you are talking about. I found out, after unlocking the bootloader you have to flash a ftf file (at least, that has solved the problem in my case).
I turned it off by taking away the battery (I had to) and then used flashtool (google it) for flashing the new ftf file. I followed Vasudev99 's tutorial (thanks, by the way). I'll give you the link, in which you can find all files you need and all steps you have to follow.

1-Flash latest version Vodafone ROM.
2- Turn on your phone, get a file explorer+framaroot.
3-Reboot into flashmode, and flash ONLY the OLD Kernel.
4-Turn on your phone, open Framaroot, click Gandalf Exploit(If it doesn't work at the first try, close program, and do it again, it's a known issue).
5- Turn off phone, boot to Flashmode and Flash NEW Kernal ONLY.
6-Install Root Uninstaller from Google Play and Uninstall the Vodafone Bloatware if you don't want it.
Note: I'd advise flashing the NEW Kernal after the root process, cos the OLD Kernal won't let you turn WI-FI on(it didn't for me at least, so I had to keep flashing and reflashing stuff)
This took me around 2 hours to figure out because of the Flashboot only error, which made flashboot keep disconecting and reconnecting.
If anyone needs a more clearer and straigh forward step-by-step, I'd be glad to do one.
Thanks to the OP for this!
Working great so far!

Try rooting it and then flash international D6653 ROM using flashtool. Do make a backup just in case things get ugly.

Why root? You do not need to do that in order to flash a FTF
I suggest the OP just flashes a FTF for the correct device type he has. No need for root.

You can backup apps via many non root methods. there is no need to backup DRM keys unless you unlock the bootloader, so no need for that either.
Yes, it is advisable to root before doing anything, but in order to root you have to flash an older firmware first with a full wipe.... so what exactly will you be backing up? Nothing that he has currently set up now...

Totally agree with you bro. He is already on older firmware (the prototype one). Since D6653 is the International variant of the Z3, as far as I know, you can flash international Z3 ROM. But since his device is a prototype and not the retail variant, having a backup (of the prototype thingy) will save him if something goes horribly wrong.
So in conclusion what I should do is:
1. Make a backup of my Xperia Z3 prototype firmware
2. Root my Xperia Z3
3. Install Xperia Z3 international firmware
Is this all?
Yup thats pretty much it...follow the below thread...its for the Z Ultra but you can gather some useful info from it....

still can't flash anything at all!
Just exclude "bootbundle" from flashing. When you choosing files to flash, there is some checkboxes. Find "BOOTBUNDLE", and choose it.
This way phone is flashing normally.
OK i forgot to bundle the firmware thats why it doesnt install.
Anyway, i have installed the latest firmware.
However i am unable to update to the latest walkman application and some sony apps are out of date.. HELP
Yes I think that's the problem of owing a prototype phone. Just try downloading the latest .apk file and install it manually...also, does it connect to PC Suite?? And are you getting any error dialog while trying to update apps via Update centeR?
I successfully updated the apps manually. Any way to make the phone function as normal? Also, I am unable to access xda developer forum using chrome on my d6653 or the official application.. Really really weird
Hmm i guess it has to do with the official firmware. Just wait a few more days and flash another ROM of your choice. That will remove all the restrictions you now have. There is already a root option available for locked bootloaders. I'm just waiting for a stable CM12 build.
Thank you bro.
But what do you mean by flash another ROM? I thought what I have now on my phone is the latest one?

Accordingly it collects and sends usage information to Sony Mobile in order for us to improve the device" and it shows on the android settings page as well under usage info. Please help for this issue. I want to rid out of this message from the setting menu.
Hello XDA Dev community!
I'm new and I have heard good reviews about this site. I hope you could help me with my problem. I managed to buy an Xperia XZ So-01J model locked to NTT Docomo then got it unlocked thru a code. I need to flash it to a generic stock rom but I keep getting the partition.sin error and soft bricking my device in the process. If I tick partition.sin in the "exclude" category, a new error comes up again from the .sin files. Am I missing something here? I'm new to the whole Xperia game but I got a little knowledge about it epecially with Flashtool. I used to be a Samsung user and have never encountered something like this flashing roms using odin and a custom recovery.
model: Sony Xperia XZ SO-01J
39.0.B.0.361
NTT DoCoMo
Answers are highly appreciated! Thank you

Dear are you using latest xperia flashtool which use fsc script. I think you are using old flashtool. Also check drivers are cirrectly installed. Signature verification should be off in window.

Welcome dear.
Use 0.9.23.2 if possible. Put off the signature verification in window. Turn off antivirus. Dont plug any other device in usb port.
Installed drivers from driver folder of flashtool.

Tried everything you stated and sadly it doesnt work as well. Maybe there isn't a way to flash SO-01J to a generic rom. :crying:

Yes it's looking that. I also search for your probpem nut nothing is found. Can your model fall in f8331 aur f8332 category. Otherwise contact with androplus, a great developer in xperia software.

If it's f8331 then just install boot image from androplus through fastboot and then install recovery through fastboot and install custom rom.
Responses are still very much appreciated. I still have hope the SO-01J can be flashed with a generic ROM.

Hi!

Who can help me?
:crying: I m haven the same condition with you. Who can help me? Asking for help.i used all the flashtool, but it still dont ok.
I have the same condition with you.I do it yesterday.you should use 0.9.23.2.Flashtool flash so 01j .ftf. Yesterday i went to japanese NTT'S Home net to download it.
Did you flash the international ROM? Or still use Docomo 6.0.1?
same problem here , i try to flash 41.3.A.2.24 AU on my Sony Xperia XZ SO-01J but it always appear error at all sin files start from partition.sin
anyone have solve this problem?
AFAIK you cannot flash that file to that device.
you can't flash other rom into this phone, it only accept docomo rom. the bootloader is locked and it's not unlockable (as far as I know unless docomo allows it or someone managed to find a way). so I did the next best thing, by removing some of the docomo apps through adb. I also removed some Sony apps like Xperia Tips and Whats New and a few others (facebook etc). battery life has been better since less things running in the background now, free RAM is around 1gb though I don't play games at all.
