I hope that the i9505G and the i9505 hardwares are finally the same in order to permit port !

It makes me wonder, why Samsung would release the Google sources on their servers.
I thought it is Nexus like thingy, thus Google maintains the code and subsequently host them on their servers.

But, Mr. Targaryen, I think he meant that Google should host these sources since it's a Nexus device now.

Well, the fact is the source code is explicitly marked as for the GT-I9505G, so it's normally for the Google Edition.
I had not time to see what this source code contains...but I would like to ask if someone did for telling us if specific drivers are included or not...
Yes it is the Google edition source code. I checked the files.

Is there a way to know the hardware?
So im on the fence about this phone i have the source on its way down, but i am unsure if i should go buy a t-mobile s4 right now or wait until the 26th for the google edition...? i wouldn't mind trying the new "features" of the regular s4 although i hate touchwiz... but will the google edition come with the drivers for the extra sensors on the s4..?
I wat to put this unlocked iPhone 5 to rest..

If the Google Edition will really support the extra sensors, it will be a really nice news. Anyway, I think that if Samsung/Google release the i9505G as a i9505 with pure AOSP, I mean without extra drivers (for example for the IR blaster, hygrometer and so on...) nor funcionalities, why then to buy such an amputee and so expensive phone ! In addition, Samsung might see its brand heavily affected with such stupidity!
Maybe I'm wrong, but even Nexus devices contains open source software and proprietary programs like Google Apps. So, in my opinion, having a i9505G doesn't mean 100% AOSP and drivers port can be illegal for copyrighted material !

you can only do so much with the same version of touchwiz jellybean. this device will most likely not see another carrier update. aosp will be the only way future updates are brought to the device. carriers specifically do this so you keep upgrading devices. that being said, why dont you have a note 2 already?

They did announce that feature pack update, plus on release the device was given its 2GB of ram just for future support of new android versions.
My guess is it will get 4.2.1 official, but that will be the end of OTA. I have a feeling though CM and AOSP roms will be around for a while. Too many people have the US models of the GS3's, and due to the fact MOST of the code is similar between devices, it should not be hard to keep them all going as long as theres someone who cares to work on them.

The development hasn't stop just slowed down. There are 4 new ports and some of the older roms have moved on to 4.2(mainly CM,liquid smooth and slim bean). The other roms are still being updated. There is also a new ROM based on 4.2 called Pure Google. Team Baked is working on a 4.2 based ROM.

Possible? Yes. Probable? Probably not. Due to technical and legal issues.
Even if the technical challenges including reverse engineering closed source drivers is done the build would likely be kept private as Microsoft lawyers can and will make your life suck. Even if despite all the previous if you wanted to release it you would not be permitted to on XDA or many other sites since you would be in an, at best, legally gray area.

Sorry, it wasn't wp8 but it was wp7.x which is still closed source and is definitely hosted on XDA without issue. There is an entire sub forum dedicated to Windows Phone 7 ROMs for the HTC HD2. I get what you're saying but something being closed source obviously hasn't stopped XDA from hosting. Now, that being said, Adam Outler found a way to boot from an SD card which would make the process a hell of a lot easier.

Its fully working on Task630 and AOKP, Carbon is releasing it shortly.
Guys... The kernel that Samsung made for the GE phone bridges some gaps in the frameworks between touchwiz and AOSP. The touchwiz camera app is being ported over to AOSP as we speak (there's still a few bugs but its working 90% at this point).
This could have potentially opened the floodgates to have any touchwiz apps on AOSP ROMs.
