I know that losing Cid is a major issue for us and is a big PiA. Is it bmn that is causing it or is it kexec. I'm glad that we are pushed to make backup thru firmware in bmm buy why is it happening. It did not have it happen thru hundreds of back and forth flashes and has now happened 5 times, not even just thru flashing but screen hangs that lead to hot reboots. So there has to be a reason. This thread is for brain storming into why we lose it

For those that don't know where the backed up CID is AFTER backing it up and happen to need to restore it is in clockworkmod>firmware. You'll see your CID back-up. Flash that image if you get the CID error.

It happens if the kernel is compiled with an improper boot cmdline.. look here.. thats what happens if you try to use a razr kernel. from what I know, it happens with the mokee kernel as well. so if you are using mokee, I recommend you to use JBX.. I recommend you to to JBX on any kexec rom though..

Has not made a difference in kernel...have flashed both ways...granted it is unpredictable when it is going to.happen but it has happened with PAC man and mokee ROMs even the 6/22 builds and the newest kernel.build. I never hsf it happen with other kexec builds before this weekend before I started using jbx but it is annoying as anything.

Went to backup my CID finally finding out how important it is, and BAM, it's gone... The moment I go and decide to back it up... So anyways, I went and clicked on BPTools and I get nothing, it continues the boot and hangs between the BMM and the ROM actually booting (black screen)? Do I need to do something else while I click on BPTools, like it plugged into computer or something?

Been running nonkexec pacman for 24hrs now and not a single hang that leads to cidloss..... Had it happen with the setup on system 6 numerous times and had to keep restoring it. The puzzle continues to evolve.. Ravi I know of you said it was a kernel issue that leads to the loss, is there a log that we can pull that will give me an idea of why it is happening so we can come up with a solution. I was running pacman 6/22 with jbx and had it happen at irregular intervals ND also mokee 6/22 with jbx with same result. Gonna completely destroy system 6 and create fresh everything and try to see when it starts happening both with original kexec kernels in older builds and the same with jbx kernel and try to see the pattern that it comes up with. There has to be a reason that is tied to this. I never had it happen til I started flashing the new kernel, even the first Edison builds I didn't have it happen. Gonna see what I can do.

It all stems from flashing the ported kexec ROMS that came from the razr, that means that the kernel was originally meant for the razr, and it is expecting a CID from a razr, and the compile is missing something that the A2 actually needs to not mess with the CID. Also the partition table on the razr is a little different, and the CID is in another location. At least that is the understanding that I have from the research I have done.

Well the issue isn't the ported ROM's for sure coz I didn't use the razr kernel in the ports. And there were no cid issues.
Well not until recently when I started using the jbx kernel.Although dtrail1 made the partition table in accordance with A2's partition table.I guess there still remains something that's causing these CID wipes.Haven't been able to pinpoint what though.
As far as MoKee goes it's kernel is roughly based on razr's config so jim's and ravi's theroies apply here.Haven't looked into MoKee kernel much yet.
---------------------------------------------------
May the -Mass times Acceleration-be with You...
Well that makes sense then... The problem then resides in permanently fixing the kernel so that it finds the Cid in the right spot. I thought that dtrail1 had stated that it want the kernel but maybe we should revisit the issue. I know this much... I like his kernel build, but the Cid issue started really getting on my nerves. Well one way or another, we will find a way to correct the problem.

I just don't want to **** this thing up anymore lol. Anyone able to like quote what I do from that post, unless I do it exactly from beginning to end?
EDIT: BMM does bypass the error, but after the lil android with gears when it starts booting the rom, it is a black screen (I'm not a kexec reject lol). Is the ROM install F'd and I have to wipe and reinstall for it to continue boot? Or can I no longer use kexec?

Hi everyone, this is my first post in the sensation forums. Here is my question. A friend of mine has the sensation in stock form and wants to me to install AOKP on it. I've been reading up on how to get s-off and installing cwr. Now I have a vibrant and if on a stock or froyo rom installing a cm7 rom is recommended prior to installing any ics rom to get partitions and such correctly. Is there a rom that needs to be flashed before I can flash his sensation with the aokp rom or is it safe to flash straight from stock rom. Thanks in advanced.
Sent from tapatalk V2 B6 from ics powered vibrant
The process goes basically like this:
A) Unlock the bootloader by means of Revolutionary.io
B) Root the Stock Rom
C) Flash 4EXT recovery from the APK downloaded at 4ext.net
D) Download the 3.32 unlocked firmware from the dev thread.
E) Put firmware PG58IMG file on root of SD card and hit up the bootloader, apply firmware.
F) Remove firmware file from SD card so you can get to 4EXT recovery from the bootloader.
G) Put rom on SD card, reboot into recovery, flash rom.
Only one problem is that AOKP isn't really supported, or 100% ready to roll on this device. Virtuous Inquisition or ARHD + Shnizlon's AOSP mod is a much more stable, feature-packed approach.
Thanks sshede, that's a pretty good tut you wrote for me there. And I'll definitely search and look into the roms you recommend. And also time for me to start downloading all those files and the drivers for his phone. I probably won't mod his phone till this weekend so it will give me more time to do my reading up. Thanks once again.

Lol wut. Aokp is faster, more stable and smoother than VI. I have been using it for like 1 month without a single reboot. Only few bugs (480p camcorder) that don't affect the experience at all. Give it a try, you will think CM is a joke after using AOKP's ROM Control (which is a compilation of a LOT of tweaks/mods/etc).

Totally subjective. Some people prefer 480p because it doesn't use nearly as much space. Bluetooth isn't 100% functioning either. It may not bother you, but some people need them. And I've tried my fair share of both Sense and AOSP-based roms, nothing is more stable than Sense-based roms right now. All the drivers are straight from HTC, nothing's been patched together.

Yes. The main problem I had with VI was the random black screen of death. Had to pull battery away every couple days as the phone wouldn't turn back on. That's why I don't like that ROM.

The ROM wouldn't boot if it didn't come with it's own kernel.
EVery ROM comes with its own kernel which will overwrite what ever you have previously. MIUI just had a major theme comp, therefore likely to stay on V4 until at least end of the year. Also, MIUI says that their ROMs or rather the kernel is at 60fps, it should be similar to the smoothness on JB project butter. you won't miss out much if you use MIUI.

MIUI rom is worst rom I ever used... It looks like freaking copy of ios and also very slow. Last time I flashed MIUI ICS to try it for the first time, it broke my radios. I tried flashing another roms but none of the radios were working even on stock roms and I spend so much time trying to fix it manually %&()#@
have a look miui jb
i tried it the memory drain is the same as the ics(xiaomi fix your [email protected]@@ scheduler in order to kill at list 1 up with out the need to slow down like hell and force the user to use the task manager)it work a bit faster thanks to butter but if they don't fix there issues miui will die before the end of the year even in one x(as far as i heard in forums) the rom is slow as hell because of the faulty management system of the rom, the 110-150 mb that are left free in nexus are far from enought to use apps or play heavy games the problem is that after a while the memory goes full on it's own and in the task manager all the apps+the game eat almost 350 mb so where are the other 150mb?

I'm making the transition from my old Droid X to the VZW Galaxy S3, and I have a few questions. The flashing process between these two phones are quite different and perhaps another ex-Droid X user (or just an all around knowledgeable person) could help me out.
1. To my knowledge, we were never able to flash Kernels on the Droid X because of its locked bootloader. So how does Kernel flashing work? Are there certain kernels that only pair with certain roms, or can you flash any kernel you like with any rom? I have a feeling it's the former, as I've already seen kernels categorized i.e. Touchwiz Kernels or CM10 based kernels.
2. With the Droid X, all roms were flashed using CWM. But with this phone that's not always the case right? Some may require a kexec method or even a custom recovery image, correct?
3. I've seen a few roms recommend backing up IMEI / MEID / EFS data before flashing. Is something I should consider doing whenever I flash, just as one would do a nandroid backup?
4. I've seen a few threads mentioning flash count, resetting flash count, etc. Should I be concerned with flash count? If so, why?
5. With the Droid X, before you could flash a rom, you had to make sure the firmware you were on was compatible with whatever rom you were trying out. For example, if you wanted to try cm7 you had to flash over the stock froyo kernel. If you wanted to try miui you had to flash over a stock gingerbread kernel. However, it would seem, with the S3 you can flash any rom (whether it be an ics rom or a jb rom) over stock 4.0.4. Is this correct? Can you flash an ics rom over the top of a jb rom? Or do you always have to revert back to ics stock?
6. Is Odin the Samsung equivalent of rsd lite?

1. Flashing kernels has been made as simple as flashing ROMs
2. kexec is outdated since the bootloader got unlocked. You can also still use CWM on this or there's another recovery that people like called TWRP (Download an app called EZ-Recovery from the play store, youll need it to flash any recovery)
3. Losing IMEI is a royal paiin in the arse, but it's rare. Either way you want to back it up. I believe the guide on how to do so is in the Development Forum.
4. I haven't tripped the flash count. Basically all it is is a way for Verizon to tell if you been f'in with your phone. I Believe that only AOSP/AOKP ROMs can trip it, not stock ROMS
5. It's a bit simpler flashing between ROMs on this phone. Just wipe data/factory reset and flash away. For the most part.
6. Yes it is basically.
Check the guide out in my sig, it'll explain how to do most everything in detail.

To Elaborate on this just a bit, yes it is as easy as flashing roms but you were correct in saying that there are aosp kernels and there are tw kernels. just make sure the os version (ICS, JB) and the framework (TW, AOSP) match your rom and you are good to go!

If you are just getting your feet wet with tw roms, you might consider giving Bean's a try. I've been using Build 9 since it dropped and it's smooth.
imo, it's themed just enough to not look like a straight tw rom, the performance is great and the battery life is fantastic as well.
I've tried synergy once or twice and was never quite completely satisfied with it.

I haven't run CM or MIUI or any other AOSP ROM on this phone so take this with a grain of salt;
If you want cool stuff and constant bugs/lack of normal features go with the AOSP....
If you want some cool stuff and a nice stable daily driver... go with the TW ROMs. I've been running Synergy since 1.2(or 3 I cant remember lol) and I love it. Everything works on it, it's stable, and it's currently being ported to Jelly Bean so I can't wait for that shtuff. Eschelon and the rest of his team are good about listening to feature suggestions/requests too when they got time so more and more will be added.

How "rare" is it to lose the IMEI after flashing? And is losing your IMEI a possibility flashing any ROM or just certain ones like CM10 or AOSP, or are TW and Stock roms susceptible to this as well?

I honestly don't know. One of the devs for Synergy ROM said something to the effect its "a weird Samsung reboot code and so the phone automatically restores a bad backup of your IMEI. It's a fluke thing"
It's 100% random when flashing anything I believe.
If u use the synergy Rom to flash it automatically has a script to back up your meid number and stuff. I've flashed synergy official cm10 nightlies without a hitch. Just make sure that u obtain root and unlock the bootloader and flash recovery. Thus far I've had no problems. Btw synergy Rom is the best one out there. Jellywiz is a jb Rom it is awesome but only thing that doesn't work is sms at the present time. If u want to back up ur meid best tool to use is qpst just Google it. Also all in one tool that has been great for me unlocking obtaining root and stuff is Verizon gs3 casual tool. In order to use that tool u mist have java se framework which u can find at the java website. Any questions feel free to shoot me a message! Good luck!

Good luck!

Just to clarify. Synergy is a stock tw based rom and CM10 is well a cm based rom. Two different monsters and roms entirely.

U r right but both can be flashed the same way

3. Losing IMEI is a royal paiin in the arse, but it's rare. Either way you want to back it up. I believe the guide on how to do so is in the Development Forum.
How "rare" is it to lose the IMEI after flashing? And is losing your IMEI a possibility flashing any ROM or just certain ones like CM10 or AOSP, or are TW and Stock roms susceptible to this as well?

I found this thread which looks like the Synergy guys made a script to backup IMEI. I gave it a go and was succesful in backing it up. Seemed much easier than the QPST method. Don't know if it will actually restore, but hopefully I'll never have to find out.

Hi all,
First let me start by telling you what device I am using a Samsung Galaxy S III I535 running Liquid Smooth 2.37 rom.
I have been flashing phones for years and have bricked, unbricked & in most cases had success with dirty flashing and doing clean flashes. I have gotten to the point in my adventures with flashing phones to experiment with kernels, since that's all anyone talks about that gets some legit performance and battery life stats. So my questions are as follows ( and i apologize now if this has been asked a bazillion times before. If that is in fact the case, some direction to the link would be much appreciated, thanks! )
1) what are the steps one would have to take to properly flash a Kernel
2) are there any pitfalls and caveats i should be concerned about ( bricking is the obvious one here )
Thank you again in advance for taking the time to help me out. Just trying to get fully educated before i decide to start messing around further with my phones!

1) Make sure the kernel is compatible with your rom, Do some reading about the kernel -pros & cons.
2) Flash away. In theory, you don't even need to wipe cache or dalvik cache, but just wipe them to make you feel like...it's clean!!
3) The worst thing is you get a bootloop which is an easy fix.
One other thing to note, is AOSP kernels are not compatible with TouchWiz roms, and TW kernels are not compatible with AOSP roms.
Make sure you get the right one, if the developer offers both options.

Just adding onto this, one good way of ensuring #1 is to flash a compatible AOSP 4.3 or 4.4 kernel that is dated at or about the same time as your rom. If the more recent kernel doesn't work, try the release prior to that.

Much appreciated guys! I decided to go with [4.3/4.4][AOSP] ¤ BMS ¤ d2vzw / d2usc 3.4.y (link below). So far so good, flashed easily and no problems at this point. Ill report back and see how the performance gains are.

I noticed as soon as I loaded the Kernel there was an issue. It wouldn't connect to any wifi networks. As a matter of fact, I couldn't even turn on wifi, the switch just stayed grayed out after i initially hit it. So currently I am running KT until I can find a solution to my issue. I would love to run BMS given the great response but I need to be able to use wifi lol

Can we start a list of sorts with Roms that work with the new bootloader?? so far i read that Dhacker29 has a few test builds of cm11 . i have one installed right now and it has some bugs but works and is faster than my hd has ever been . i can run this game i like and before it couldnt play without lagging now it runs crazy fast . anyway thank you Dhacker29 for the recovery and rom. i was reading another site and someone mentioned another dev that had a test build out for the new recovery but i cant for the life of me find or remember who it was. also how can i tell if a rom will work without trying to install it. i read that the kernel had to be 3.5 and newer or some shshhsh. anyway thanks in advance to anyone that responds
I second this. Was actually thinking of suggesting the same thing. Might help keep people from flashing the JB kernel Roms and asking what they did wrong. Least maybe a bit more.
>.>
almost forgot
heres a link to Dhackers Test rom that im using . it has a few minor bugs but all the hardware works soo
http://androidhosting.org/Devs/Dhacker29/msm8960/cm-11-20140619-UNOFFICIAL-RAZR-HD_M-KITKAT-TEST.zip
i hope its ok to do this anyway Thanks Dhacker29!!!!

here's the whole directory with all his builds and where I think he adds them
I believe there is a PACMan Alpha out as well. Has the same bugs as CM11

Any stable builds? Maybe some that use stock and then tweak it out.
i think you can install the stock files and then root and use a root app manager to remove all the bloatware from your phone. there is even a thread that tells you all the apps you can get rid of without jacking anything up. here you can check it out

after root you can download xposed installer and then download one of the customizing modules and you can then change your icons in the status bar. nav bar, even alter the way your toast messages come in . anything you can think change the color of your wifi and 4g icons or change them to something entirely diff . here check that out too . you probably already know all this already but just in case.

This is what I did. I was already running stock KK before rooting/unlocking. Still running it now but I removed a lot of crap. I'm looking forward to at least a few stable ROMs to try out on this phone, but I'm cool with this for now.

Does anyone know if the available KK-bootloader roms work on xt925? I know the ROM unification for a lot of devices have taken place. I am not sure this also happens with the new KK-bootlader, or if we are back on the old xt925 vs xt926 compatability devide...
Thanks in advance.

So far I know of these Roms that are being developed to run on 3.4 kernel
CM11 Unofficial: http://androidhosting.org/Devs/Dhacker29/msm8960/
PAC-man Alpha 1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2683962&page=3 I read mention that this works but I've not tested it myself
Gummy Rom Nightly: https://mobile.twitter.com/dhacker29/status/480220911225036800 <-- using this right now. Seems pretty good.
full list like CM11 unofficial http://androidhosting.org/Devs/Gummy/moto_msm8960/NIGHTLY/
NexesqueKK 0.01: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...2-droid-nexesque-for-razr-hd-beta-442-builds/ I saw on DroidRZR.com that there was a test for the 3.4 kernel but my attempts to flash it failed
Beanstalk Nightly (Kitstalk): http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/35880-rom442kit-katunofficalxt926-beanstalk/ flashed the 6-23 one on my phone.. Seems to be working

Gummy rom tested on my xt925. Stuck at unlocked bootloader sign. I don't think xt925 is supported yet.
Yeah I don't know if any have xt925 support or not. Hopefully they will include them eventually.
Gummy Rom
I recently tried Gummy Rom for 3.4 kernel. It was pretty good, but had trouble with bluetooth freezing the phone and wifi dropout at times. It has great progress, and appreciate those who are working on it. :good:
I have installed dhacker's 4.4 cm build from 24/6. Happy to report that it boots - and so far, at least - works great. This is on an xt925! It's the first 4.4 bootloader rom other than moto that I have got to actually boot up on this phone.
I installed gummy and have been using the auto updater running nightlies right now I'm running 6-24 build . it seems like the the previous ver. had fixed the screen dimming issue but it seemed to come back on this ver. but rarely happens I haven't tied Bluetooth yet and the popping/static sound issue is still there but other than that I like the rom . thanks for

In droidrzr forums there is an Unofficial Omni Rom for kitkat bootloader..
btw, for xt925, dhacker says that we only need the new bootloader (maybe installing the leaked soak test from France we can use the newest roms)
