External battery chargers are a tricky thing, how much capacity should we get? Our S4 have a 2600mah battery hence a 2600mah power bank should do the trick? FALSE. Read on.
The voltage of the power cells in the power banks are at 3.7v but the USB output is at 5V. This means that at 5V the equivalent capacity of the power cells are diminished due to the higher voltage. As a result, the effect "mah" of a power bank is usually <75% of what is mentioned due to the voltage difference. And this figure does not factor in the loss due to conversion. Most of the time, higher quality power banks would have a conversion efficiency of 90% but the cheaper quality power banks can have and a conversion rate of as low as 70%.
Another important fact about cheaper power banks is that they are often have a lower capacity internal power cells.
For easy reference and assuming a 70% conversion rate, get a power bank that is at least 2 times the stated capacity of your devices' battery and ideally you would only need to get a power bank that is 1.5 times the stated capacity.
Hence, if your s4 has a 2600mah, you'll have to get at least a 3900mah power bank and depending on the quality of the power bank it might have to be 5200mah

This is a good choice. I've got a 10400mah and it is fantastic for charging my phone and tablet.
A huge plus is that apparently this chinese brand uses Samsung Battery cells which is good and it has a 90% conversion rate.
I posted something similar in the battery case thread below. That is why I just carry a spare battery. Half the size of an external pack and I get the full capacity.

Yeah but that's only as convenient when your case is easy to remove and put on.
A spare battery would be ideal for bumpers probably.

True, and you have to power down to make the switch. But the external batteries are not small, and you have to carry them around and leave your phone tethered to it when you use the phone.
When i have all my gear and i am traveling i have a 3000mah external battery in my backpack. When I am going out without a backpack and i am gone all day and need more juice, i through a spare phone battery in my pocket and i don't even notice it there.

Im struggling to believe that there is a 30% loss in conversion. I have a 3500mAh power bank and it charges my galaxy nexus almost 2 times. The galaxy nexus has a 1750mAh battery and the power bank completes 1 full charge and the 2nd charge reaches roughly 85%. There is some loss but it isnt as high as the ~30% stated here.

I like portable battery chargers. In addition to my ZeroLemon 7500mah battery, I also own a PowerGen 9000mah battery pack that has a 2A output port. I've been using it since last year when I got my S2 and it's very handy to have (although I don't use it anymore due to the ZeroLemon battery).

Yeah, so far I am rather impressed with the Teclast power bank, I've used those cheap no-name power banks that you obtain from eBay and they are rubbish. The physical quality is good too which is also more than I can say for others. Do no buy solar panel equipped power banks, they are useless.
The battery capacity of my 10400mah power bank is really good though it's a pain to charge it up.
i have a naztech 10800mamp and a MyCharge Peak 6600mamp battery banks and prefer the naztech 10800mamp one with 5 usb ports all of which can charge at the same time. I can charge my 2 nexus 7 tablets and my 2 phones and a camera at the same time from this naztech powerbank and am happy with it. see my video comparison in my youtube uploads linked in my tag line. but i havent found the need for a battery bank yet with my S4 as am happy with the S4 internal battery for now.

Trying to find gadgets of the type "external portable power".
That is power sources that is light enough to carry in a backpack or pocket, and have a battery (or in my dreams a fuel cell...) that can be plugged into SGS mini usb port for "emergency" power.
Also of interest is solar powered solutions, maybe to charge said portable power device while relaxing at the beach.

Ive seen a solar + wind up one as well, but not sure how good that would work.
There are few micro usb backup battery packs. Some are sealed rechargeable batteries (like the one in above post) while others allows you to use standard AA size ones (these are good in an emergency).
But IMO better to have a spare battery. That way you don’t have to wait for the phone to charge, you get instant power. Since SGS s batteries are very small you can even carry one in your pocket.
Personally I'd prefer something that used AA/AAA batteries. That way I can carry LSD batteries, and I can use a proper conditioner/analyser/charger on them to keep them in decent condition. It also means the phone doesn't need to get turned off at any point - I find mine isn't great after a restart for quite a while. Finally very high quality batteries are not that expensive for AA/AAA and you know what you're getting, aftermarket mobile batteries can be a little bit risky and performance can vary.
I use a solution from Philips, it is called Power2Go. I use the SCE4430. Works great, only thing is that it does not support micro usb out of the box. But a standard micro usb cable does the trick. Used this also on a Nintendo DS.

Would it be possible to harvest one of these solar phone chargers you see on ebay and build it into the backplate of the phone?
I know it may not be powerful enough to charge your phone, but maybe we can extend the life when we just need those few extra hours.
So, really, does anyone know what we would need? I have little to know electronics experience so not sure what i'm looking for but i'm more than willing to actually do it if someone is able to explain what/how its done.

I don't know about you but my phone spends most of its time inside my pocket so it is rarely out in the sun for the solar panel to work

actually i hv read all the backup power all u guys suggest but i found that these all are just rebranding some chinese low quality products and it cant survive for long and there r some potential hazard that may end up damaging our sgs...i hv tried solar charger and some portable backup power before, the solar charger dun hv a high efficiency to exchange solar energy to electrical energy...it takes me too long time to charge it and it can only recharge the battery once. for the backup power, the mAh thing is not accurate, u need to try it yourself n c how many cycles u can charge the stock battery in order to estimate the true backup power battery capacity

Well for the first, people get extra batteries so that when the first one dies(OEM Samsung battery that came with the phone) they can just pop in the new one by anker etc. And keep on chugging without charging. Hope that helps. Also, after so many charges the OEM battery loses some of its MaH amps so people will purchase a cheaper(anker tends to be about 10-20 bucks less) to replace it. Price is always a deciding factor to most consumers, especially phone owners.

From Note 2 experience, Anker OEM replacement battery performed and lasted longer than Samsung battery. Period! Plus, as some others pointed out, you can use external charger to juice it up, and just swap batteries on the go.
For external battery banks, Anker is also the way to go. Go to my Review Link in the signature where I have reviewed and posted detailed write up for close to a dozen of power banks. 6000 mAh is a thing from the past. Right now new power banks have 10,000 to 15,000 mAh of capacity in the same footprint as old one. Plus keep in mind, the actual capacity of external charger will be 30% due to usb port conversion (going from internal cell of power bank 3.8V to 5V usb port, and back to 3.8V on your phone through usb port - close to 30% loss due to efficiency).
Yes that 6000 mah power bank will give you only 1 full charge, and the charging speed is equivalent to USB. If you are doing NAV or some other heavy power draw, the external battery may not keep up.
And if I have to carry a spare, the internal battery is smaller and I know exactly what I am going to get in terms of performance
im finding that the anker 2600 batteries i bought are better than my two samsung batteries. i have two samsung batteries because 1 came with my phone and 1 came with the brand new insurance replacement after i smashed that phone. pretty happy with anker. no need to add bulk to the phone with an extended. just keep a spare battery when needed. i have 1 in my camera bag, 1 in my backpack i take to work, and 1 i can slide into my wallet if it's just me and the phone.
I bought Anker 2600 dual battery and external charger pack. Love it. Been using it and swapping batteries out every morning instead of being tied to a charger. Good for trips where I make heavy use of Cell phone to watch videos and such.
Had one issue. the internal connector that the pins that connect to the battery kinda broke on mine. The piece the pins are attached to fell inside the charger case. No problem though just opened it up and hot glued it back in place. All that keeps it there from the factory is glue and mine just came undone. Happened while traveling with charger in a bag with a battery in it, possible something pushed it hard.
Good to know that 2600 anker is better than actual battery... I was planning to get the 3k zero lemon but every one suggests is not doing much difference

After reading their description:
Wall charger is .6 amp stock is 2 amp. So it will definitely be slower to charge.
No nfc.
What is it, 3000mAh or 200mAh more than stock? They need to do their math. It's one or the other.
I'd like to see a side by side comparison by the numbers, I have been burned by aftermarket batteries before. May consider it but the fact there is no nfc may be a deal breaker.

Honestly, this is more of an overview than a review. I'd expect some actual statistics in the video such as overall battery time with stock vs zerolemon batteries (maybe running constant video or something), but all you say is whether or not it's a good battery. Sorry to be so negative, but this is really lacking actual "review" content.
I also purchased these batteries. NFC not being included didnt matter to me whatsoever. Anywho I would say im a heavy user: twitter, facebook, youtube, fun run etc.. and i easily get 16 hours out of one charge. Make sure you do the cycle for these batteries when you get them. The best cycle i had with the 3000 mah was 1 day and 8 hrs i believe.

Also the wallcharger....definitely isnt the worlds fastest. I can actually charge my phone while playing on it continuously while charging and it charges faster then the wall charger.
But hey, 2 extra quality batteries for 20 bucks. Still worth the 20

I bought the two 3000mAh batteries + wall charger as well. I have to say i'm disappointed with the charging speed of the wall charger. It kind of breaks the deal for me. I wanted the spare batteries with an external charger that would allow me to keep the batteries charged without having them on my phone itself. I guess i'm going to send my feedback to ZeroLemon, and see what they will do about it.
The batteries are good compared to the original Samsung 2600mAh one. Right off the bat when i used the ZeroLemon battery, with the same phone settings (brightness, mobile networks, etc), i could notice the battery draining a little slower.
I've read many online reviews on these 3000mAh batteries, and they were right about the battery being a bit bigger than the stock battery, although i couldn't really notice the size difference when i compared them side by side. The back cover will shut properly after some pressing on the sides. Nothing to be concerned about.
All in all, i love the batteries a lot, but it's just too bad the wall charger is practically useless as i'm going to be using the Samsung charger which is way faster.

I have bought 9300mAh battery from Zerolemon for my Samsung Galaxy Note II. I think this battery is so awesome, It is longest than any brand in this class. $44 is worth getting this battery. Highly recommended.

I live in India and I am getting a better deal on this one.
Just got the Zerolemon 3000 mah batteries and wall charger off of Amazon. They are great. I also have a Hyperion 7500mah extended battery. I can get 2.5 days easily or of the extended battery, but due daily use i wanted something closer to stick size. The ZL 3000 batteries are perfect. I get about 5 hours more out of the Zerolemon over stock. 15 hours vs 21 hours. Enough juice you get me though the day. Will save the Hyperion for times when I may tether or be away from a charger for long periods of time.

It seems that you actually get at most about 75% of the stated capacity from a powerbank (see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zz4arPh-ch8). Even if you only get 66% of usable capacity from a 5200mAh Powerbank (as the video suggests), that should give approximately 3400mAh which is enough to charge a Note 4 from 0% to 100% (battery capacity of a Note 4 is 3220mAh).
The Astro 5200 is very pocketable at 5 x 3.4 x 1.7 inches, comes with a net travel pouch, and a USB cable, but I bought one of these tiny USB cables to use with it: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131876034528
You need a powerbank that holds a larger charge than the battery of your device in order for it to get a complete charge. I'd suggest getting a power bank with at least 3500mAH capacity.

It seems that you actually get at most about 75% of the stated capacity from a powerbank (see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zz4arPh-ch8). Even if you only get 66% of usable capacity from a 5200mAh Powerbank (as the video suggests), that should give approximately 3400mAh which is enough to charge a Note 4 from 0% to 100% (battery capacity of a Note 4 is 3220mAh).

Much more pocketable and guaranteed one full charge is a spare battery! Only downsides are you can't be a good Samaritan and share and you can't use it on your next gadget

Yea, I have a spare battery too, and an external charger - I like to keep my options open, but it can be a bit of a nuisance removing my UAG case so sometimes a charger is handier.

OP is looking for something SMALLER than a 6000mah Deboch, so suggestions for units over that size won't do. I've received my 5200mah Anker Astro E1 (mentioned above) and can confirm that it fully charges my Note 4 with a little to spare. It has a 2A output so charges quite quickly. Very pocketable and highly recommended, probably the best size/capacity ratio for carrying in your pocket:

Having used a few Anker, revspec and kasmish. I know i spelled most of those wrong. But they are all in the 10k mah range.
All of them will easily charge your battery 2-3 times. However some claim 2A but just isn't as fast. I much spend a little more money on a Quick charge 2.0 certified one. Quick charge 3.0 is out for a handful of new phones but the note 4 doesn't support it and most are lik the $50+ range.
Get a QC2.0 small 10k and your covered til the end of the phone life. They will run you $15-30. They are roughly double the size of your note 4 in thickness and thats it. If you can pocket your note 4, you can pocket the battery. But i normally pocket the battery pack and hold the phone. I keep it in the bag tho.
This to me is the best and future proof method. A spare battery is the fastest to go from 0-100 but w/o a spare battery charger, it could be annoying as well as it only works on the note4.

Xiaomi 20 000 mah. It has fast charge
If that's just for your phone, get a spare battery or two. Preferably with an external charger.
If you got your Note4 when it came out and use it regularly, your battery is probably significantly degraded by now or is starting to do so. So buy that new battery.
If you intend to do so, stay away from those cheap "Samsung" batteries on Amazon or eBay. These are all likely to be fakes or rejects. Either buy real (expensive) ones in retail packaging or reputable third party brands.

Anker powercore+ 10050 has qualcomm quick charge and is the perfect size. Amazon has it in a package with the anker wall charger that charges extremely fast. I now have Anker chargers for everything electronic in my life. Anker for life

Generic wireless chargers do not fast charge in my experience. I have tried 3 off of Amazon so far.
I have a Seneo Fast Charger stand and its been great .
As long as the wireless dock is Fast Charge capable and your adapter is QuickCharge 2.0 compliant it should work. I have four Seneo Fast Charge docks that I use with both Samsung and RavPower QC 2.0 adapters and they work great with my S7 Edge. I will test when I get it but I'd assume the S8+ will work the same.
You know if it is working because the phone displays two messages when you dock it.
"Charging wirelessly xx%"
and then after a second or two
"Fast charging wirelessly xx%"

I believe the S8 (like the S7) can accept up to 15w wireless charging (Qi 2.0 spec) but most chargers barely output 10w. Not sure why but I would be looking for a good 15w output charger unless theres a reason not to.

I think the reference is to batteries losing capacity. The older a battery is the less capacity it holds. A battery rated at 3600mAH might only hold 2000mAH after a couple of years of use. High charging current causes a lot of heat buildup in the battery and will shorten (spoil) it's life.
Best way to tell if your battery has lost capacity is to measure charge time. Having it die quickly could mean it's just running too many apps, but charging time (with the phone off) should give an indication of battery capacity. If your battery charges twice as fast as a new one, it's lost half its capacity.

Got it. Sorry, I actually thought they meant that the battery spoils. Like the way some "normal" batteries blow up if left in devices for too long. I was seeing memories of the S7 nightmare.
AFAIK, the only listed change between the Dock style Samsung Fast charger and the Convertible Fast charger is that the new 1 can be changed from dock to pad.
I just picked up 2x Dock styles from amazon for 40 bucks a piece, way better than spending 70 for the convertible style.

I was amazed how quickly they showed up too. Took 3 days from order to delivery. I think they purposely put almost 2 weeks delivery time just so that when you get it "early" you're amazed.

Means that the battery holds its charge less. Faster discharges, in general the life of the battery decreases
