paranoid android on new tf201 running 4.1.1 out of the box - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i have been reading about and trying to figure out why i cannot for the life of me get paranoid android installed on my transformer prime tf201 running 4.1.1.
Ive already unlocked the bootloader by using the apk provided by asus and thas fine.
Now i tried to root it and no matter what root method i try (ive tried pretty much everyone i can find) it doesnt work.
i tried instaling CWM and whilst in fastboot mode it says its completed succesffully but then when i boot into recovery (pressing vol + on RCK) it just freezes on "booting recovery kernel image"
I am lost as to what else to do and would appreciate some advise from anyone if you can help
I have also never rooted this before, its brand new and its running the 4.1.1 OS.
Thanks

Hi sean, I have the tf300 and I initially unlocked mine (some time ago) with the asus v7 unlock tool. I went from 4.1.1 to v4.2.1 then I downgraded back down to 4.1.1. For the CM10.1 goodness. I also use twrp 2.5.0.0 and have had ZERO problems with any of my CM 10.1 installs...and ive tried them all. Out of curiosity, have you tried twrp?

Thats just an alternative to CWM right?
I can find a download link to an image and just fastboot it onto the tab and try?
Cheers

I would suggest posting this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1465
They would probably have more expertise on the tf201.

Will flashing CWM Recovery for Transformer Prime brick my TF300?

Hey guys,
In ROM manager when I go to flash recovery is says confirm device Transformer Prime... would flashing it brick my phone? My TF300 is very similar to a Transformer Prime but is it similar enough? I am kind of new at this stuff. I have a ported CWM Recovery flashed on manually but last time I checked it didn't support mounting the micro sd and the ROM manager app always complains that I must flash CWM Recovery first, even though I already have a ported version flashed.
And just out of curiosity, if I did flash the Recovery for the Transformer Prime and it didn't work would I be bricked?? I would think that if I broke my Recovery my operating system would be unaffected and I could manually flash a new recovery with fastboot anyway?
Thank you! I don't know that much yet but I do have the desire to learn ... starting college as a freshman this fall for Computer Science. I don't really know which track I want ... android development seems cool but I don't think it pays well to be an XDA android guru

Okay cool thank you for the heads up! Out of curiosity would it be a hard brick or a soft brick? Unrecoverable?
Go ahead and do some reading here. Others have already tried and failed, reporting back their results.
Still Charged Up
I'm having the same issue but with the Infinity. Has anyone tried flashing CWM recovery on an Infinity? I'm surprised there is no support for the TF300 & TF700 yet. Are there any alternatives? What about TWRP? Will that work with the Infinity?

I used that link plus a video on youtube. you should check out the development thread theres a good guide and videos
ok i followed the guide and now i've cwm , but how can i root my tablet now?
1st of all on which Rom is your TF300 right now? Jb or Ics?
For FT300T I recommend to use TWRP recovery and SuperSU, but if you have CWM right now just use "install zip from sdcard" and use it to install binary pack (see in Development forum).
Regards.
I recommend twrp as well but whichever you choose, step 3 of this guide will root you - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30516010

trying to root my Asus tf300t
Hi Guys
I am new and am trying root my tablet. I have bootloader unlooked and I also have the file downloaded and unzipped on my tablet. So I hold down the volume and the power button. Then I press volume up on RCK and wait. The droid spins for a bit then a dead droid comes up. After a bit my tablet boots up again. What am I doing wrong? I have JB with the lastest up date 10.4.2.13.
Please help an old girl
Thanks
Linda
Lindamary, sounds like your recovery is not properly installed. Had the same twice with twrp, never been able to start with it. I then installed cmw with fastboot, and now it works.

I recommend you install twrp and install the zip using that. Once you install twrp, the next time you go into rck you won't get the sick robot screen . You'll find all you need for it in the Dev section.

TWRP ecrypted after CROMI update HELP!

Hey guys. Semi newb here. I unlocked my TF300t a while back on the first offical JB update from ASUS. I then followed all the steps to unlock it and use fastboot to install TWRP. This was months back. I have been steadily updating CleanROM Inheritance as the revisions are released.
This latest revision to 3.4.4 flash was easy....as always. I wiped all and installed. When the system came back up I noticed my wifi was broken. I couldnt get it to initialize. So I booted to recovey so I could wipe all and reflash again just in case. Well, TWRP asked me for a password. Ive never encrypted my tablet nor have I used passwrods in the past as I know they can cause issues with access or permissions. I can hit cancel and use twrp but it wont mount anything or allow me to do anything until I 'decrypt' it. Not sure where to go from here. I guess Id like to flash the new official 4.2 from asus but I need advice on how to do this using fastboot.
Any help or pointers are welcomed. I only used the fastboot once to install twrp so I dont completely remember how to use it or if I can use it to flash a full ROM to hopefully reset the tablet. Thanks for any help! Cause I am stumped...
EDIT:
So I tried to turn off the tablet and pressed VOL DN + PWR to get to recovery options and choose fastboot, it just boot loops back to the asus logo twice then goes back in to TWRP. I cant even get into the OS now like I could. I need to unlock TWRP. PLEASE HELP!
EDIT 2:
I just wanted to add that by no means am I putting any blame on the ROM. Its a badass ROM that I love. The issue I am having is most definitely due to the bootloader and TWRP I suspect. I just dont know what I can do in TWRP locked down the way it is to regain some control...or at least fastboot.

It sounds like you flashed the 4.2 update, as that has a new bootloader which causes the behavior you describe. Did you update it to 4.2 before flashing? If so, then check the threads associated with rooting/recovery with 4.2. Basically, you need to install a patched TWRP 2.4.4.0.

Hey thanks for the reply! Actually, no I was not installing 4.2. I would like to install a newer version of twrp but I cant do anything in twrp because it says its encrypted. I did read that other thread but all the options given are not available to me. I cant get to fastboot.
BUT heres an update:
I got the PC to recognize my device as a Transformer. But I couldn't get the naked drivers nor the newer Asus drivers to work. So I modified the .ini file for both the MTP install and USB driver install to include the Hardware ID shown in windows under device manager properties for the device. Basically I modded the .ini so that it also looks for the device ID, then saved and had windows look at the folder I gain to install the driver and this time is installed. So now I am going to try to use a fastboot command....Ill update if this works. Otherwise I may need to try adb and Im a total newb at adb...
UPDATE:
Got the driver installed but 2 issues:
1: Device manager says Device Cannot Start
2: I cant get recovery menu to show. Tablet goes right into TWRP recovery after looping through the ASUS boot screen twice.
I am stumped. I don't want to give up but I think I may have to
UPDATE
Just an update for those who were following:
I can boot into APX but since I never loaded NVFLASH I was screwed. Nothing I did to try to force it into download mode worked. Bootloader must be screwed. In any case, I went on ebay and bought a TF300T mainboard that was pulled from a damaged screen unit. It was 80 bukcs and should be here soon. I figure 80 bucks is better that 180 from ASUS or drop another 300-400 on a new tablet. I wish there was a JIG for the tablet. I used it on a SG SII once.

UPDATE:
Installed new mainboard and got her back up and running quickly. Already updated to 4.2.1. I like it. Well done ASUS!

Lol. I love my TF300T. Sure, i can buy a better tablet but I would also have to spend a lot more money. I've only got $299 invested in my 32gb tablet plus $49 in my dock. I'm a happy camper. My tablet , when connected to the dock, will last almost twice as long as the Nexus on one charge. I can also keep using the tablet while the dock is charging. I really never even need to put the tablet itself into the charger. You can't do that with the more expensive Nexus 10.

This feature is one of the reasons I love this tab. I'm having the same problem as op. I can still get into my 4.2 is though but cannot get recovery to read anything. Maybe ill have to wait for a twrp update.
For now as long as the tab works I can deal with it. I would like to get it working the right way again though.

Have you added the patch yet? This will allow TWRP to pick up your sd card.
I tried flashing the patched one via fastboot but it did not seem to take. Its still encrypted. I'm thinking its not flashing properly. I'm not the only one having this issue. Hopefully I can just wait it out till a fix is found. I'm afriad of screwing it up to where its completely unuseable.

[Q] Can't install a ROM

I have a brand TF300T. It is unlocked. I have TWRP installed. I am running stock rom. For some reason I can only get CleanROM to install. I have tried others, but none of them will work for me. After I flash a new rom. The device turns on, but doesn't get past the boot screen. "The Device is UnLocked." ASUS. I have done this process many times on my galaxy sIII many times. What could I be doing wrong?

If you have updated to JB 4.2.1 and CROMI 4.0 then there is only one other ROM compatible with that bootloader right now.
You will need to downgrade to the previous bootloader but be careful and sure you want to do this.
I have attached a screenshot of what i am running. I was wanting to put cyanogenmod on here. What steps do i have to take to accomplish this?

You would need to downgrade the bootloader to 4.1.1. CyanogenMod is not compatible on the latest boot loader.
Be careful - read the how to threads in General first.
It is my understanding that i have to download US_epaduser_10_4_2_20 from the website. then go into fastboot to flash that particular system blob? at least that's what i read in the how-to
ok so that didn't work
OK I got it working!

Installing CyanogenMod onto TF300T

I've been trying to flash CyanogenMod using the instructions on their website for a good week or so in collaboration with a general search of the internet. So far all I've managed to do is soft brick my tablet multiple times.
Here are the problems I've seen so far
ClockworkMod Recovery doesn't work on this tablet anymore
TWRP should be able to install cyanogenMod but for whatever reason just wipes the whole of the system folder
I can't seem to find directions on how to manually install cyanogenMod anywhere on the internet (the stock asus rom can be flashed fairly simply using fastboot)
Sorry about not being able to post a link!
Has anyone been able to install CM10 on their TF300T and if so can they link me to the directions they followed?
Thanks!

Wipe Data, Dalvik, and Cache before flashing CM. Usually bootloops for me if not.
That did the trick!! Thank you so much! Now running android 4.3.1 on my TF300T!!!
