I came from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330551 where a user has reported that my app works on this phone, so maybe you'll find it useful.
----- Forget this thread, I don't understand why a user has suggested me to post here... this mobile phone already has notification led -----
I've developed a little application that should work in all MTK phones that have separate led for lighting the buttons.
The latest version will be available on my blog, but as I don't have 10 messages I can't post links... so see attachments (in the app you can find a link to my page where there will be the latest version).
How to use:
Simply install the application, open it and test that LED works (by clicking the ON, OFF buttons, it will ask for ROOT permissions), once you know it works, you need to activate the Accessibility Service to let the application catch the incoming notifications.
That's all.

Yes works!!!!!!!! great For devices with non led notification and as reported a blinking notification as in nokias(speed of blink n style) would be great and another thing/Request..it would be great if user has a choice of which capacitive led (Back or home or multitask or search) to blink or notify for what will also be good and i'm sure there will be ton's of downloads for this app later on you an move for Universal device compatibility!!!!!

I'll add the blink option probably this night, I have finished it just now and want to test it before releasing, and will try to make it customizable.
About selecting which button to light, forget about that, usually this phones (and most of phones) control all the buttons leds at the same time, so it's physically impossible to select which button to light, as they leds are connected to the same control line.
Universal compatibility seems also difficult, there are commercial apps like Lightflow to provide more "universal" and "professional" led interactions, but even this app has lots of comments about not working (for example, on my MTK phones it doesn't work). I'll be satisfied if I can get "universal" compatibility on all MTK phones.

Hi folks,
I am interested in starting freelance android application development. I have a year of experience in developing android applications and background services. It was only recently that i decided, I needed to make some money using this skill, but unfortunately I'm from India and hence i cant publish paid apps to the market. Also, you guys are the best source of ideas for apps. So start demanding your ideas here and i could get down to realizing the best ones. I don't plan to charge for the applications, but donations would be welcome. Of course, that would come into the picture only once i have the apps ready for you.
Looking forward to your demands.

Dude, that's a great. With self initiative you have entered our threads. We welcome every developer who can make our phone a complete candy
Yes we lack many features like two way call recording (now available only in chinese version), gtalk with wifi as optional (i mean even under gprs), full HD (1080p) video playback & many other formats, face detection while unlock, graphic support & performance, speed & so on....
If really interested why don't u start off with some custom ROM based on any recent version & kepp adding new good features (not some themes & colourful stuffs).
By sure donations will follow if proved.
I have PM ed the link for systemUI.apk of MIUI

Hi manrock,
there is an app on the market, which allows you to pick up calls by shaking (old stuff, rather boring) or by just holding the phone to your ear (using proximity sensor, awesome stuff - it's magic! ). Sadly, it doesn't work correctly, and picks up your call even when the phone is in your pocket. So my idea would be to program a similar app, which does it right: Picking up calls just by holding the phone to your ear. Very useful when wearing gloves or with dirty hands
I already have an idea to fix the problem: If the sensor reports "dark" when a call comes in, the app should not pick up, but wait for the sensor to report "light" for a second or two and then take the call when it is "dark" again. Meaning you could take the phone out of your pocket, and it would take the call when you hold it to your ear.
By the way: The app which does it wrong is called ShakeCall.
I would like to see nothing just video gtalk or any front facing camera video chat app (please don't suggest tango or fring they all SUCKS!!!!! ) But it needs drivers level knowledge . You can find video gtalk for sgs in app section and try to port it to our phone.

buddy if it that simple then why codeworkx is fighting so much with it...its related to camera drivers...!
What i'm upto
I have experience in android application development. User space, and not kernel/native level
programming.
Please do not ask me to join codeworkx in his attempt to grace our devices with cm7. He's pissed off as it is.
I have currently decided to work on vivek's idea, to mod our systemUI as per the MIUI notifications and toggle design. That too, is a new area for me,as i have experience in developing new apps instead of modding existing android framework components. Still i'm willing to give a try.
After that i will probably look at the call auto answer based on proximity sensor, accelerometer & brightness sensor.
P.S - Keep those ideas flowing
Is that all the ideas that we could come up with ? We need to keep this thread alive for us to benefit from it. Please dont stop sharing ideas here. Calling other devs too, if you have enough time, i'd love some help.
P.S - I will release a beta version of the CallMagic application in a couple of days. Hope you guys find it useful.
Can you make ICS like progress bar
In our phone the progress bar is based on color settings in progress_horizontal.xml in framework-res.apk but in some other roms there is special images in framework-res.apk for the progressbar
Can you make that framework file

Hello! I am looking for the best fliashlight app available. I use the stock one from ICS 4.0 at the moment, but I hate how when I lock the screen, it turns off! Is there a flashlight app out there that stays on until you tell it to turn off? Let me know!
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA
TelsaLED for sure. I used it before CM9 had the built in torch app. It's got a lot of cool features, better than the CM9 one I just downloaded to test, and the light did stay on after I locked the phone.
I do like Tiny Flashlight by Nikolay Ananiev the most, because u can create an homescreen widget for quick start.
Flashlight app of course...
I gave Flashlight LED Genius a try, and I think I like it the most. You can turn the light on from your lock screen by simply shaking your phone, and they make it so the lockscreen doesn't turn off for a set amount of time that you can adjust. Definitely a nice light app.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA
Flashlight. Plus the widget
yea... Flashlight
Flashlight... As everyone else agrees
The best flashlight app I have used is this simple sucker right here. It turns on automatic, plus it has an option where you can just tap the light icon whenever you need the light so it doesn't have to stay on the entire time. No Bells and Whistles - just a simple flashlight app.
Actually, I can't post the link so just go to Google Play - type in 831 media and the app is called SIMPLE LED FLASHLIGHT.
My 2 cents....
StoneBuckles
Maybe there are any direct links to your Flashlight apps?
The only link here is the TeslaLED and please try to enter just "Flashlight" in the Playstore... you will not find exactly what you want
So it would be VERY helpfull if you guys can link the app's directly, thanks
I find the flashlight in Pie Control is quite easy to use.
Built-in quick settings toggle in 6.0.1/ Battery Widget Reborn (had the free one, but i upgraded to the paid variant)

They have been giving you the names of the apps, you just have to search for the app they mentioned rather than "flashlight". You have to have 10 posts to post links.

I downloaded this app mainly because you said it was highly customizable and stayed on when your screen was off and I like it.
Very customizable, has modes for On/Off, Off after x minutes, On while holding toggle, Text to Morse code with option to repeat continuously, and a couple of others.
Even the widget is customizable and it also stayed on for me when I turned my screen off.
Hi folks,
I do a lot of research and check several forums and come across those little known about apps that just make life better with your phone so I figured I would start this thread to highlight them and bring them more into the limelight. This is my list below and these are the programs that follow me always when flashing new roms, we all know the big boys like Titanium Backup etc but they are not for this thread so lets leave them out and see if we can't create a better experience for all One S users and get the dev's we feel deserving of some extra recognition for the work they have put in making our phones even better. Please where possible provide links to any app you add to make life easier and I hope you all enjoy!
Side note ~ First thing I highly recommend software wise is TWRP recovery, anyone still using CWM recovery please change to TWRP now! CWM is very old and outdated and causes more problems than its worth. I suggest using v2.2.2.0 as never let me down. See attached at the bottom to download it.
My List -
1) Flash Image Gui - Say goodbye to fastbooting boot.img's on ANY hboot this wonderful little tool allows the flashaholic in all of us to flash not only kernels but also radio's from within a rom! Simply flash boot.img and reboot to recovery, wipe and flash rom and reboot. Nice simple and essential in my book. I would also encourage people to buy the license for $0.99 as dev is very active to help and sort problems.

Thread Link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954121
2) Ultimate Rotation Control - The one and only rotation control app that can REALLY LOCK your screen in ANY orientation and also FORCE the automatic orientation to override app specific settings. This is a seven day trail before needing to pay but it is worth it for the per app settings!
Market Link - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.fameit.rotate&feature=search_result#?t=W10.
Thread Link - Not really a thread link but very detailed summary http://xyo.net/android-app/ultimate-rotation-control-0PkKMbs/
3) Velis Auto Brightness - I love this app! I hate the auto brightness handled by system but with this app I have FULL control of my auto brightness settings AND it has a cracking little setup wizard to help. Oh and the profiles settings is quality allowing me to for example have a profile for normal dark conditions (screen on lowest) or if I'm watching a film I have a movie profile to turn screen up to full. Also features smoothing controls and dev is always open to suggestions.
Market Link - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.velis.auto.brightness&feature=search_result#?t=W10.

Thread Link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910521
4) Button LED - All I can say is YES! BLN (Back Light Notification) for the One S. Never miss another notification due to the completely rubbish LED we have, from emails to messages and most things in-between this will allow you to have the back lights on the soft keys light up and pulse on and off when a new notification arrives and you get to set the blink pattern! Also features flashlight notifications too!
Market Link - Not in Play Store yet.
Thread Link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1958939
5) Screen Off And Lock - Free version does exactly what it says on the tin, turns screen off and locks phone, a nice touch is the working ICS fix which some other third party apps suffer where screen goes off and straight back on.
Included a donate version because the screen off animations are fantastic and you can play screen on and off sounds to if you want. Saves our power buttons any extra bashing and works a treat. It also makes my iturd loving friend jealous!

Thank you for starting this thread
And yes, Flash GUI is a life saver :highfive:
Guess I try Ultimate Rotation Control and Button LED because the led does suck.
Button LED is a ripass. Missed that from my old HTC Hero.
I always use the Power Toggles. Find it handy on stock rom.

"Kernel Tuner" for one to add, in case some people are unaware of the app. Even if you don't have custom kernel, also under misc tweaks, there is now an option added to the latest version on play store to use a regular cable for OTG. works awesome, have used it personally, but you will still need a USB hub of some sort to go from male to female.
And +1 for "usb otg helper.

Hi, Im using Android (Note 2) and looking for an app called Screendimmer from IOS. Here is the youtube about how it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jB4VWhZtU5c
I use this for whatsapp. While Im chatting and waiting for a reply, the phone usually turn off and I have to press the power button to wake it up. My friend who is using Iphone showed me that he installed Screendimmer on Cydia and solved all the problems above.
I tried to use "tasker" together with "screen filter" but I failed to do that. So is there any app in Android that has the same function like ScreenDimmer?
Any helps.

Yes I also tried that app but it is not what I need. The main reason that I am finding this app is that I dont need to press the power button everytimes I am waiting an message/whatsapp/viber/facebook. The screen will automatically dim (it does not like the screen time out that auto lock the screen after x seconds) and it will come light when I touch the screen. It can save battery (by dimming the screen at the lowest brightness...nearly black) and the power button also.
waiting for some developers who can build an app like this :victory:
P/S: I have an idea that we can use Tasker and Screen Filter, and set a loop with a condition that when a specific app is open (whatsapp for example), if in 10 seconds, there is no touch on screen (I left the phone there for 10seconds) it will activate Screen Filter (that set at the lowest brightness) to dim the screen (not lock it); then when the phone receives touch, Screen Filter will be disable. In that 10seconds, if there is touch occured, it will recount another 10seconds again. I am not a IT guy so I can not do it myself. Can anyone try this?
up waiting for any idea
It seems that there is no developer interested in this app
I have emailed to the developer of the IOS app but still received nothing.
Anyone a tip for a good app to emulate a notify LED? Like a flashing dot or so?

you can try this for flashing dot...( don't expect it will serve the purpose of an actual LED notification not sure why google got rid of it... meh )
free version - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ledblinker
paid version - if you think the free version gives you the comfort then... mostly you can add more apps to be included in notification

I don't get this as well! Thx for the hint. Will have a look.
It works alright, but coming out of the notification screen can be a bit glitchy. Also, after a few seconds the screen dims and the notification light can be a little hard to see.
Also I find the payed version quite expensive - but overall it seems to be what I was looking for.

Apps like these keep your phone awake and drain the battery. Just use the Pixel Pulse app in the mods and themes sub forum.

If you use AOD it is awake. This app is using that. If you turned AOD then yes, battery. I am most disappointed by glitches when I try to open the phone.

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing. The AOD function is not the same as what most 3rd party apps use to keep the phone awake.
Pixel pulse, is the way to go, and the customized colors makes it even better at 2 AM work email notifications, so i know wtf i need to fix in the morning hahahaha
