Are the A210 and the A510 similar enough to use the same kernel, ROM's or Recovery?

Sorry Mate, they use different kernels.
As with recovery,,,,,,, I would say no also.
Known match ups, and pay attention...
A500/A501
A510/A511
A700/A701
The difference being 3g Sim, and partition blocks.
Can't say much for the 200 series, but can pretty much say that the Kernels are device specific, along with the recoveries.
You are welcome to prove this theory wrong, but I wouldn't advise it. Kernels you can get away with, as you can always fastboot another. CWM, you risk physical damage to the partition.

I'm not sure that is 100% true.. The CWM recovery I am using says it is for the 510, which is why I was asking.

Best thing is to ask the 510 folks in the 700 forums. The CWM dev should know if the dev blocks are the same.

CWM-flashable roms from the One X

Now that we have an unlocked bootloader and working recovery, has anyone successfully ported any of the roms from the international htc one x (tegra 3)? Feel free to post which rom you used and how it worked out for you.

So now i have an unlocked bootloader and i have CWM installed. If i were to use a RUU, the clean rom DE, would it remove CWM and put the stock one back on? Or would it leave CWM intact?

When you start calling people names, you are the one that appears immature and childish, no matter how correct you may be.
The problem is, though, you are not correct. Maybe it only appears as a "simple" mistake to you, probably because you don't care or haven't spent enough time in the forums, but for people who frequent XDA then it has become a cumulative nuisance.
Also, when the majority of users responding in the thread you started is either questioning the logic of your statement or placement of the thread then maybe you need to reflect on what you were trying to accomplish and maybe take into consideration how you can achieve better results in the future. Long story short, try to learn from your mistakes.
Okay, so, International One x won't be compatible because of hardware differences, but what about the One S roms? I just tried flashing the CM9 port for the S, and it flashed successfully but upon reboot the screen was just filled with green graphical glitches. Rebooting back into recovery and attempting to restore my backup of the stock system didn't work at all, so RUU for me... but, why wouldn't a One S ROM work? It has 99% of the same hardware... besides the qHD screen. I remember being able to flash a Droid 3 ROM to my bootloader-locked Atrix 2 and it booting up just fine. What's different here?

LTE radio for one. Probably some other minor differences too.

Japanese (Docomo) SC-03D - same ROMs etc?

Hello. I just bought an S II LTE on Docomo. Am I right in assuming (I decided this in a fever dream of tiredness last night, so I don't know where I saw it) that ROMs designed for this ATT version of the phone will also work on the Docomo one? I know the buttons are different, but perhaps the ROMs take that into account?
If I'm in the wrong place, does anyone know which ROMs I should be using? There doesn't seem to be much talk at all of my version. Quite worrying; don't want to stay on GB!

Have no idea what Docomo is. but compare the specs, if frequencies and such are same then u can flash. isn;t the phone called 727?
U would probably need a SIM unlock.

Just google things
Do you doco users have your own kernels I bet
Sent from my SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
It's called the SC-03D, it's mostly the same as the Skyrocket. Docomo is the network,
Since I posted this, I tried flashing a Skyrocket ROM on to it. Since the radio frequencies are different, I couldn't use mobile internet. (calls and wifi worked fine) - and because the buttons are different (the Japanese version has a physical home button, and touch buttons for "options" (whatever it's called) and back - whenever I pressed back, it acted as if I were pressing home.
I assume (as someone who knows nothing about these things) that the button thing would relatively easy to fix in a slightly modded ROM. They're the same buttons as the first Galaxy.
Now, the real question: How easy would it be for a modder to set the frequencies? Is it just a question of changing a text file? So then: Can I help? Is there any diagnostic app I could run on my phone to get the info required in order to make this ROM happen? I'm hoping someone could slightly modify the most recent AOKP and re-pack it as a Docomo variant, with not too much time or effort on their part. If there's anything I could do (as someone who lives in Japan and has this variant of the phone), then obviously I would help as much as possible.
Does this sound to anyone like something that could actually happen?

The Skyrocket is the closest phone to mine that actually has a section on XDA. Mine is a Galaxy S2 LTE (only with different radio frequencies and different buttons on the front; everything else is the same - Skyrocket ROMs work on my phone, apart from the bits I've already mentioned), not a standard Galaxy S2.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I flashed a ROM: It's safe to assume that I know how to flash a zip file in CWM. And I wasn't rude in my response, so what's the issue?
Do you think I haven't searched for the files myself? Why do you think I'm here? I'm asking here in case people more knowledgeable than myself have come across the same or similar situations, since this phone is the most similar to mine. To be told to "google it" is hardly useful, is it? That was obviously the first thing I tried.

That's why I asked if there's a way to extract the radio and kernel from my current stock ROM.
If you can get the partitions description table for you device you can make an img for both radio and boot...
But that's not guaranteed to work however...
Number 2 if you delete radio and boot images from a stock skyrocket ROM zip you will only be flashing the system...just delete modem.img , amss.img and boot.img (never forget also to delete the recovery.img) ... This way the zip flash can't find the radio and kernel to flash them with the ROM..But I can't guarantee you'll not end up with a brick or if you're lucky with a boot loop !

[PSA] Ice Cold Jelly AOKP = Brick [UPDATE]

This post is for anyone newly rooted and looking to flash a custom rom.
There is a popular AOKP rom out there named Ice Cold Jelly. From what I have heard, it is a well designed, full-featured rom, but you should be aware that it was created for the quad-core Tegra 3 version of the One X. There is no version of ICJ for the dual-core S4 One X/XL. [Edit: There is now--see below]
What's worse, however, is that attempting to flash ICJ on an S4 One X/XL may permanently brick your phone. This is because the two processors use different partition layouts. What happens when you try to flash ICJ?
absolutelygrim said:
The biggest problem with ICJ is it writes a kernel for a completely different processor to p4, 5, 6 and part of p7.
P4 is one of the most crucial partitions for these phones. It overwrites p4 with what is basically crap. Killing the phone.
Click to collapse
P4 is the extended partition table. When you overwrite that, the CPU has no way to find the OS. So it simply stops and goes into what is known as QHUSB_DLOAD mode.
If you are on 1.85 or earlier firmware, there is a fix for this problem though it's a bit tricky [EDIT: Maybe not--we've got at least one report of a 1.85 phone perma-bricked by ICJ]. If you are on 2.20. however, there is currently no known way to unbrick your phone [Edit: Other than paying for a jtag fix], and there may never be one. You will have created the proverbial paperweight. I have seen at least 10 people do this since root for 2.20 came out. Please don't add to the list.
Most people who run into these problems get them because they rush things and don't research enough beforehand. Still, if this post saves even one person from bricking, it will have served its purpose.
If you're coming to this post too late, here's the WIP thread for the potential fix.
[Update 12/7/12] The dev for ICJ has added asserts to the rom, meaning it will fail to flash on the S4 One X and nothing will happen (unless you've wiped /system first, in which case the asserts won't do anything). However, as there are plenty of older versions floating around on unofficial sites, it should still be avoided like the plague!
[Update 02/11/13] We've now got a dual core version here. So there's now really no excuse if you bricked.

I believe I am done with ROM MODS for the time being. I am happy with restoring the official Edison ROM for ver 4.0.4 ans having the phone rooted. Too much risk installing those ROMS, time consuming and risky. I am tired of these games though there may be tempting Thanks!

Lol. Bootloader being locked is a very crappy thing, and is the reason devices get bricked. Could flash almost anything if it was unlocked.

Little Doubt
Hello ppl
I have one question:
I own a Atrix 2 MB865
And i flashed this FXZ ---->>> InlineFlashing_Edison_67.21.125_CFC_P3_APBP.xml.zip
From this site: sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php
My doubt is: from this rom, which is a oficial rom from AT&T, can i go back to GB or not?
Tks in advance

TRUE YOU COULD FLASH ANYTHING IF IT WAS UNLOCKED BUT WITH IT BEING LOCKED
YOU HAVE THE SAFE OPTION OF ALWAYS JUST FLASHING ANOTHER ROM OR RSD FLASH.....:victory:

Why yelling?
But good luck trying to convince anyone that's not a noon that a locked bootloader is a good thing.
You enjoy your locked phone.

DUDE ur not getting the point of a locked bootloader being noob friendly.......
u cant screw up on a locked bootloader like that on atrix 2 with BMM running...
my point being that you can flash anything and always have a fall back to rsd it .........:highfive:

Sorry dude, i tried. My atrix 2 is unlocked but 4.3 mod you posted doesn`t get flashed via RDL. After extraction it ends with an error & stops executing. I am tired of these silly games.

I have to say, your statement "u cant screw up on a locked bootloader" is completely false. The majority of Atrix 2 bricks are a direct result of the locked bootloader with most of them being bricked by noobs. I frequent several different forums as i own several different devices and the Atrix 2 forum is the only one of those with an entire thread dedicated to bricked phones. Coincidentally, it is also the only device that I own that has a locked bootloader. So, I guess if you enjoy being limited and being locked down and treated like an idiot by Motorola, or if you have no intention of modding your phone, then the locked bootloader is what you want. If you're like me, and want to fully own the devices you spend your hard earned money on and do with the device as you please, then a locked bootloader is incredibly stupid (and occasionally infuriating).

RDL? Do you mean RSD lite? If so, of course it won't be flashed in RSD lite. RSD lite is for official firmware only. You use BMM to flash everything else. If you're tired of the "silly games" try reading a little bit to avoid making such simple mistakes. No offence intended. The #1 mistake you can make with this phone is not taking the time to read and research. Again, the direct result of ^^^ the locked bootloader.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.

i agree to what ur saying about the boot loader being locked but the maximum damage u can do is a soft brick when you use BMM....
so what im trying to say is that its noob friendly as in you dont have to worry bout hard bricks if your using a locked bootloader wid BMM
maximum damage is a boot loop or a rom that maynot work
"AND I QUOTE ITS NOT A GOOD THING THAT THE BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED BUT ITS EASIER TO FLASH FOR A NOOB "
There's value & truth to both sides. As I get older I'm getting less adventurous. My concerns are that my MB865 is unlocked to freeze programs with TBP. I used to uninstall, now I freeze. And I am very thankful for BMM so I can make Nandroids. That's about it now for me.

I can see what you're saying to a certain extent. I've flashed the FXZ so many times now that it has become routine. Meanwhile my Skyrocket with its unlocked bootloader was only on the stock ROM for less than an hour on the day I got it and I've never had to flash back and start over with it like I do with my A2. Coincidence? I think not.
That being said, I've always felt that people that don't want, or haven't the ability, to mod
their phones buy iPhones.

If you're going to keep calling yourself old, you'd better be older than me ( 38 ) or I'm going to be offended.
