Hi, I'm using the HTC evo 3D with sensai custom rom.
I tried to run the wifi hotspot and it did not work. When I press the tick box to enable it, it tries to load but then it doesn't. After a couple seconds it then turns on and can't be turned off, plus, I can't even connect to it. Its like it's it is just having the notification there for the sake of it. I have tried battery pulls, but it just keeps starting up on its own. I have even tried completely removing the app with titanium backup and it still does the same thing!
Does anyone know how to solve this?

Not sure if it's a computer, ROM, Phone, or app issue, but after a few minutes or so of being connected via wifi tether, it just stops working. According to the phone, I'm still connected, but the upload/download numbers reset to zero and pages stop loading in my laptop browser. The only fix I have is to disable wifi tether and re-enable it.
Any idea what would be causing this? I'm on Fresh 2.0d and have whatever version of wifi tether came on the ROM.

It's actually shutting off your data connection. If you take a look your data becomes dormant. If you turn of data and then turn it back it works again. I think it may be with the version. I just saw I had 2.0 and I'm going to put 1.6 back on. I'll let you know if it fixes the problem.

If you put on your sdcard and install using a file explorer it will change the script that is used and work.
Actually, I just checked, and I'm already running 1.6. Any other suggestions? Haha
are you getting a or making a telephone call when it conks out?

When ever your data goes to 0 is Ev in status bar white or gray? Might try doing adb logcat when you start up wifi tether or when you have the problem. I don't know what is causing the problem, but whever I turn off mobile networks and turn it back on it works fine after that.
I'm doing a logcat and using my wifi tether right now to see if I still have the problem.
Might try removing the one off your phone and push the one from the link above.

I was having the exact same problem. Read the 2nd post..No. No calls or messages or anything when it happened to me.
After the OTA 3.2 update I am now having to rotate my Xoom on startup or the screen is blank. The only thing I have access to is that settings. Is there a fix for this? It is annoying as all hell to have to do that everytime I start the thing back up.
Also I have to restart my Xoom to bluetooth tether for internet. All I have is the wifi version and I link it to my Droid X via bluetooth. The Droid X drops the tether after 10-15 minutes so I have to continuously reconnect it if I need the internet. I have wifi at home, but I am not always there to use it.
Please if anyone has any helpful ideas to fix either of these problems that would be great.

Sounds like something got hosed during the update process. Have you tried downloading the 3.2ROM from XDA, wiping and reinstalling?
So, before rooting, my One X had great Wifi connection. No issues. Now that I'm rooted, I can't connect to wifi to save my life. I tried the wifi fix (not the ROM, but the 3 files instead) and still nothing.
I've tried turning off Mobile Network while wifi was on, turning mobile network on while wifi was on, tried restarting the wifi....
I cannot get a connection to the Store, browsers won't open webpages, it's essentially done for. Yet every other device in my house can access the router just fine (and it's not just here, it's elsewhere.)
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this short of flashing the new ROM (which I can't do from my house since the HTC drivers always fail to install.)
Have you tried running fix permissions to see if there's some sort of error holding things up? The only other thing I could think to do is to do a factory restore of the phone, unfortunately...
Hi folks, looking for some help.
I am able to connect my tab 2 to my home wifi no problem.
I have also connected it to my Galaxy s2 phone using wifi tethering.
What i have found though is that on several occasions when i am in work and try to tether to my phone, that settings will show that i am connected to my WI FI hotspot but i cannot connect to any internet pages. I recall many moons ago that when i sometimes changed modem connections on my home pc that i had to reboot everything to have the old settings forgotten and the new ones set. Does anyone know if there is something similar when you move from home WIFI as your last connection to WI FI Tethered hotspot as your new one. Is there something i need to do to have the tab or phone release the old settings and take on the new ones. Hope that is a clear enough explanation of my problem. Thanks for any help offered

Both phone and tablet are stock, no rooting done to either. It happens regularly, today again in work it happened. Had to forget the connection and reconnect several times until eventually I was able to connect to internet. Really annoying as it shows as wifi connection is strong at all times.
ps some additional info.
I had used the tab tethered to my phone in work to show case how good the tab was. I can get intrrnet connection no problem on my phone, the tablet shows it is tethered to WIFI hotspot, just when i click on an internet link, no page appears. It annoys the bejeezus out of me cos i know it should be simple. I even tried bluetooth tethering and it wouldnt work either, when it did previously. What i am thinking is that i had juice defender on both my phone and tab and recently uninstalled it as i had read there was no real benefit in using this with ICS. I am wondering if it has possibly screwed up some setting or other in the phone or the tab, i.e. maybe set something and then when i have removed the program, it has not reset something, yes that sounds pretty vague i know. Anyway, thanks again and thanks for any further suggestions. p.s. i may try reinstalling juice defender on both devices to see if it makes a difference.

I don't know if his will work, but, instead of tapping on the connection and hitting connect button, try pressing and holding down on the connection until a menu shows up. Try connecting from that screen.

You said both are stock and unrooted?
I would try rooting your phone and freezing tethering manager. If i recall right if tethering is not allocated on account, i beleive that the carrier can disable tethering through that app,i could be wrong but it may be worth a shot.
Or your could try a tethering app from the market, like PDA net or the tethering app from CWM also there is a tethering app on google code website.

Try forgetting, the re-pairing the devices. It took several tries for me, or try fox-fi for your phone, and PDAnet for the tablet.

I had also removed avast virus protection as well as Juice defender from the tab. It seemed to be shortly after this that the problem arose, it may be a coincidence but i thought it may be some setting or other that had been changed. I hard reset both my phone and the tab but the problem continued.
In the house i could connect to my home WIFI everytime without issue, then if i tried to tether to my phone it would not connect. I would jump between one connection then the other and eventually it would connect to the phone.
Anyway, thats the history, now to what is happening now. The other day i read somewhere about putting tab in flight mode before tethering, so i tried this and it has worked first time every time since, so i am hopeful this is a permanent solution. What does surprise me is that the tab is not a 3g tab so i would not have thought putting it in airplane mode would make any difference but, hey it has so if anyone has similar issues it may be worth giving it a try. Good luck.
So, I bought a cheap "4k action camera" to play around with. It has wifi, and I was working on getting it connected to my phone .
While doing so, the wifi on my phone sort of.. hung. I couldnt switch to my usual wifi network, it was just sit and spin, eventually wifi stopped showing my networks altogether. If i open ip the wifi settings, the indicator just spins, i cant turn off wifi, and no networks are listed. After doing so, I cant even shut down my phone without holding the power button for 10 seconds.
I'm just trying to get this cleared up, anyone have any suggestions? I have my phone connected via ADB, but it's stock, no mods, no root. I've considered a factory reset, but I'd like to avoid that if I can.

Well. After a few hours of fighting with this, I ended up unlocking (which of course wiped my phone). This way I'm free to root or flash in the future without that being a barrier again. The wipe, of course, resolved my problem.
I'm trying to decide if I want to jump straight to a custom ROM now or not, before I get too deep into getting my phone set back up. Any suggestions?
