I've been using Easy Backup to backup my contacts/mms/ms/calendar and it seemed to be working fine, but I just noticed a week in that my contact list keeps duplicating itself every time I backup- some of my contacts have 5 or 6 google contacts that weren't there before. Am I doing something wrong? Should I ditch Easy Backup altogether and use another application to back up my contacts/sms/mms?

Hey everyone, been working on this for a couple hours and think I'm pretty well stuck. Coming from an EVO, where I deleted the stock email app with no problem, I then backed it up, and proceeded to delete it from my brothers D2G in titanium.
Upon deleting, I found that the stock messaging app would open far enough for you to see the inbox for a split second before closing on itself and making texting unusable.
To replicate, I grabbed my sisters D2G and backed the email app, email authenticator, and one more email related thing that I can't recall at the moment, then deleted them and caused her the exact same problem.
Now that I knew my issue, I thought I could just restore everything happily in titanium and it would be fine, but it's not happening. Titanium says it's restoring, but just sits there and works forever without doing anything. I'm trying to find the email.apk and see if I can just reinstall that and bring everything back, but I'm not sure.
One of the fixes in titanium was to buy the pro version and change the app processing selection to auto, indirect, but I don't want to buy the pro version on something that may or may not provide a real solution.
Any ideas anyone?
There's a high chance you'll have to flash the SBF image to restore everything. Make a backup of everything, flash the SBF, update to 4.5.608, and restore with TiBu.
In the future, do not delete stock apps with TiBu. Use the Freeze function.
Hey guys, so I decided I wanted to flash a new ROM, to try it out and stuff. When i completed the backup of my original ROM, i used ROM manager, and thought that it was ok, so I flashed the new ROM, wiping out all my data, including my contacts. Now these contacts, I had only saved them to my phone, not my SIM card, but was planning on doing so, but since I had gained the contacts 2 days before, I didn't think too much on it. Bad idea. The MD5 from my old backup with all my contacts was never created, so I no longer have the ability to back up to the file. So now i'm here, and I'm wondering, is it possible to access the Data file that was created when I made the backup, since only the MD5 is gone, and access the contacts saved on it? Thanks again!
It's default for your phone to backup your contacts to your Google account. Did you disable that? If not then you still have them all.
always backup your contacts when working on your phone I think it's the most precious part of my phone and always have a backup of it and as for getting it back like mentioned should be on your google account
Tried that already, no dice, i never disabled it, so no idea >_< I found the contacts app in my old backup that I made today that didn't have the MD5, but when i transferred it into a different backups system.tar, it stayed at the front of the folders, so i couldn't transfer them into the system folder itself.
Just copying the app itself won't do anything. Have you logged onto your gmail account (on a PC browser) and checked your contacts?
Yup, no dice, nothing there. As a note, i have no way of contacting these people other than this number, sooo ffffff-
That's bizarre. I've found the automatic syncing of contacts and what-not to be nothing less than magical! Sorry it doesn't help in this case - hopefully someone will be able to tell you how to extract the data from the ROM image that you have. Good luck.
Thanks, as a note, my old ROM was Juggernaut 5.0
I have looked around and found a few solutions, but all are really old dead threads. Is there anything new out that helps keep your storage (int/ext) backed up? Or do you have to copy and past each drive every time. I had two cards recently crap on me and had to send them to the factory for warranty. Luckily I did save the data, but it is not a simple task.
Thanks guys,
Muddy

So last night I backed up my contacts to my google account because I knew I was getting a new phone.
So upon syncing with the google account today any phone number with an email linked to it had the email restored and not the number. As well as any contact that was part of a text conversation was completely not backed up.
I have recent (less than 20 days old) backups of BAMF roms made with Clockwork Rom Manager. I there any way I can dig through those files on my SD card and find the contacts storage data.
I also backed up every last thing Titanium backup would let me backup to google drive. I have thus far had no luck restoring with Titanium Backup.
I'm kind of completely lost here.
If you guys think you can help but you need more information then I will provide it as quickly as I can if I can dig the info up.
Much appreciated for your giving this some though.
FIX
Found a program called AppExtract. It worked pretty well. Gave me back all my SMS/MMS and all my contacts from one of the backed up BAMF roms I mentioned.
I don't understand why I wasn't able to restore back into those very same roms with Clockwork though and just have all that info included. I suppose I'm missing some details here.

Not sure if I fully understand your question, but alternatively, I think you could've recovered your contacts through gmail online. Log into your gmail account, click on contacts, then more, then towards the bottom of that list is a restore option. You can then choose the parameters for your restore. As for SMS, most of the roms I've flashed recently have had SMS back up, but I haven't really used it.
Hi,
I have my Sensation rooted and I have CWM installed and the ROM Manager app. I had to go back to a backup I made with the ROM Manager app the other day and from experience I've found that if I restore to a backup a few weeks old I lose the contacts added in the intervening time and also all the text messages I've received since the backup.
I have from experience remembered to back up the contacts and the text messages using the inbuilt contacts backup and text message back up functions. I don't back my contacts up to my GMail account because there are years worth of duff contacts and crap in there that I don't want synch'd to my phone so I rely on backing them up myself. With me so far? Good.
Ok, I restored the phone to the 2 week old back up and obviously I have lost the new contacts and new text messages as I expected so I restored the contacts from backup. Mistake number one was forgetting that the restore doesn't check to see if the contact already exists, it merely adds a duplicate so I had to delete all the contacts and restore them back. No problem. I did the same with the text messages. One reboot later and the text messages app picked up the contact names rather than showing the numbers and I'm now back up and running with a stable phone with the latest contacts and text messages.
My problem is that for some stupid reason the contacts backup doesn't seem to remember what groups people were in. It remembers the groups just fine but they're now all empty. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Cheers,
/snert
