I'm not sure, but maybe try 'adb unmount'?

Not sure at the moment whether another adb remount mounts the /system partition read only again, otherwise
adb shell mount -o remount, ro /system
should work.

ADB question

I have read many posts about ADB push/remount permission issues, etc. But unfortunately I still have not figured out what's wrong with my situation. First of all, I don't have a micro SD card, so I have to push files directly to the phone memory.
I firstly tried "adb push" but seems it doesn't work for me
$ adb push email.apk /system/app
failed to copy 'email.apk' to '/system/app/email.apk': Read-only file system

Then I searched online and people said you need to remount first. Then I got the infamous permission problem
$ adb remount

Then I tried open shell first. no go
$ adb shell
$ mount -o remount rw system/app

I searched more and found it can get su permission so to make things work. But when I hit "su(enter)" after open adb shell, I don't see the "#" showing up but still got an error message after waiting for a while

Any one can please tell what's wrong with my operation? I rooted my G2x but didn't flash it. I installed the ROM manager and installed CWM but didn't proceed to reboot into recovery mode.

su app? how should I set it? I didn't see anyone mentioned that. Do you care to give a bit more details? Thanks.
I think I figured out. I have to manually run the superuser app and let it say in active. Then when I type in "adb shell" the app on the handset will ask my permission. Thanks for the reminder.
Plus I am doing the following as the following that I read from another thread
adb shell
$ su
# mkdir /data/yourname
# chmod 777 /data/yourname
# exit
$ exit
adb push gps.conf /data/yourname
adb shell

Need help with adb :\

Hey everyone!
Recently I've had problems with using the command "adb remount". I thought it was a kernel problem but it happened with both Trinity and
Elementalx kernel. I have installed the universal naked drivers 0.73 for my nexus 5. I think it is a root problem since nothing pops up on my phone
when entering "adb root". I have tried to retype it several times and it doesn't say "adb is already running as root" or something like that like it used
to. It keeps repeating "restarting adbd as root" whenever I type that command. Sorry if I'm not clear :/
Thanks everyone!
I personally prefer to run adb via recovery. Have you tried this?
I have also failed to use remount in android.
The solution is as rootsu suggests.
Boot to recovery and do
Adb shell mount /system
Or
Adb shell mount /data
Which ever partition you want to be changing

I don't think so. It's just easier.
With SlimKat and elementalx*
I have adb and apps set as root in slimkat although I doubt this is a requirement in non-AOSP roms that do not have this option. Need USB debugging on and the screen unlocked

Help on pushing files to device (ADB)

Hello guys, experiencing another problem now :silly:
Have search all around, couldn't find any valid answers so I decided to ask myself.
So I was just making a rom, which I have already installed. It's based on Cataclysm (personal use only - Till I ask for perm).
I have installed the rom, then I decided to theme some system files. And so I did. I theme the "Settings.apk" for now, and decided to push it to my device instead of installing the whole rom over again. Now mind you when I made roms and modified system apps, pushing these files to the device was straight forward. However on this Hammerhead, I've been running into some issues.
When pushing the file to my device like this
Code:
adb push Settings.apk system/priv-app
.
I get an error that says -
Code:
failed to copy "Settings.apk" to "system/priv-app/Settings.apk" : Read only file system.
So I then decided to try the following -
Code:
[x] adb root - Permission Denied
[x] adb remount - Permission Denied
So then I decided to use some shell commands to set the system as rw, I did the following.
Code:
[x] adb shell
[x] $ su - gave it permission
[x] $ mount -o rw,remount /system - It mounts it.
I then restarted cmd with root permission.
Code:
adb root"
- it restarted however, this time it stated.
Code:
Device not found.
I probably did the wrong thing above, so how exactly can I push files to /system?
SOLVED
Thanks to everyone that answered my question in detail.
The easiest way I know to push files to /system through adb is using a custom recovery . Try with it.
Why not use usb or AirDroid to transfer files?

Boot into recovery and connect the usb cable. Open a cmd prompt.
Code:
adb shell
mount /system
exit
adb push c:\users\krishneelg3\desktopmyfile /system/priv-app
You can also use the "mount system" option in recovery and skip the first 2 commands above.

Open recovery, mount system partition and connect it to pc and then normal procedure.
It will be running as adbd to no need to type adb root. Hope this helps

You can still do it through Android, but it's more difficult because adb root doesn't always work (requires kernel) and you have to mount r/w which is just a pain. I always adb push in recovery.
However, here is an example of a successful attempt to adb push on my nexus 5.
Code:

[SOLVED] "E: can't mount /sdcard" CWM 6.0.4.5 after trying L preview.

[SOLVED]
there may be other causes of this error, so there is no guarantee this will always be the fix.
"E: can't mount /sdcard"
in my case was "E: can't mount /sdcard" caused by some corrupted files in /data.
see here:
[email protected]:~$ adb shell
~ # mount /data
mount: mounting /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata on /data failed: Invalid argument
i was able to fix this with instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...o-repairing-corrupted-data-partition-t2577447
boot phone into recovery, and ensure you are able to to see your device with the command:
sudo adb devices
then use this command:
adb shell ‘e2fsck /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata’
it should prompt you to hit enter to repair several times. simply hit enter each time you are prompted until it resolves.
after that you should be able to access your data through recovery or adb pull.
the "/data/media/0/0/" problem
i thought we were passed this bug, but somehow i caused it again.
it isn't particularly difficult to fix, provided you have proper access to your data.
i just used solid explorer to move the contents of to "/data/media/0/0" to "/data/media/0" and "/data/media/0/clockworkmod" to "/data/media/clockworkmod".
any sort of root file manager should be fine.
original thread:
current situation: nexus 5 has no system data. i can get into fastboot and CWM recovery, but CWM can't perform any functions due to "E: can't mount /sdcard"
[update/edit:
[email protected]:~$ fastboot devices

[email protected]:~$ adb devices
List of devices attached

is there anything i can do from fastboot?
should i reflash the recovery or use a different recovery?
do i have to flash stock images?
anyway to back up my data to my pc first?
full story (in case something dumb i did is relevant):
ok, so i flashed the L preview from vomer's thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/rom-n5-l-developer-preview-t2796003), and yes i made a nandroid backup (wish i'd copied it to my pc now...)
i dirty flashed because i'm dumb and thought i would format /data anyway. it didn't, but actually didn't cause too many problems (no force closes, but the home button didn't work.)
i went back to recovery and formatted /data, /cache, and dalvik, then reflashed the L zip and made a backup of this fresh install.
messed around with L for awhile, but wanted to go back to my previous setup. so i went back to recovery to restore my nandroid. there was only that most recent backup in the list.
i poked around and realized my files were now located inside "/sdcard/0/0/" so i formatted /data, /cache, and dalvik and flashed my rom (latest aokp, 4.4.4) and gapps. the phone booted up fine but got infinite play services force closes. i assume this is because flashing my rom hadn't actually cleared /system first.
so i go back into recovery once more, format /system, and try to flash the rom again.
E: can't mount /sdcard
i'm assuming my data (and my backup) is still there somewhere in /sdcard/0/0/ but i have no idea how i might access it.
any help would be appreciated. i can definitely return to stock and start over, but i'd much rather have my data.

Fastboot flash the stock userdata.img
You'll need to adb pull everything from /data/media first
Yes you should use another recovery but not for this reason

Could be your data partition is screwed too. Can you still boot into L? if not, I think your data is done for. Basically you have to format data going to and from L.
No idea what "datadata" is.

Userdata wipes data if flashed and no it is not a requirement. Will it work, not sure. Try it.
Also flash a cache.img just incase because dodgy cache can prevent mounting too

AHA!!
i found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...o-repairing-corrupted-data-partition-t2577447
which instructed me to run
‘e2fsck /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata’ in adb shell.
and it worked!!!
i was able to mount /data and am currently running adb pull /data/media/ (no asterisk, btw)
and backing up all my data.
will update OP if this resolves everything.
Cool
