Best ROM/kernel combo? - Asus Transformer TF700

Been playing around with my tab again a bit and trying some different roms and such, and just wondering what some of you use for roms and kernels? Along with any specific cpu or gpu settings would be awesome!
Thanks much!

I've tried CM10.1 and CROMi-X, but went back to CM10.1. CROMi felt a little more laggy, and it didn't seem to work as well with the keyboard dock (minor things like the settings key didn't work, it wouldn't mount a USB drive, etc). I really do NOT being forced into the phone UI, so I'm looking forward to when Paranoid Android is ready for prime time.

CleanRom is fully stock everything works fine due to this fact, either you only tried it during its early stages of 4.2.1 update or used a not so good kernel. As for the lag you did you have the latest twrp installed and updated boot loader. A clean install of cromi-x will never produce lag.
I would suggest Max's kernel always as it has dynamic fsync(disabled when device is on and enabled when device is off) and security features to avoid data corruption. Max's kernel is the most smoothest kernel there is and battery life is amazing!! :good::good:

So another question... In trying to update my bootloader , it still shows the old one in my settings about phone.... Even after is says complete.. How can I be sure it's the correct new one?
Thanks a lot everyone for the help!

There is no best rom/kernel combo, it is really up to you what you will prefer and what not, probably if you ask five different people you may get five different answers. Try many and then decide what suits you better.

i just tried installed it as i read that CWM was offically supported for TF101, so i went and tried to flash that, but still looks like my copy i had before.
anyway i noticed CM9 also! so i wanted that too, but it downloaded to the sd which is internal memory and everytime i want to flash i have to go and titanium backup and then move the files to micro sd from sd. then make sure my roms are on the micro sd too.
does everyone else have to do this too? now downloading cm9 from the link as my download and move on the memorys, has given me a bad flash and i cannot open the zip.

Couldn't you just flash another one of the kernels if that's the case? Or are there special rules I'm not aware of for this device? I just got this tab yesterday, but I know the kernels for my phone have special rules or w/e.

Yes and no.. some Kernels are far worst than others.. this isnt the Mytouch 4G forum. Its special rules . CWM just recently updated to reboot to recovery for awhile it wouldn't reboot and doing by pressing down and power would just go into the regular recovery not allowing you to flash and they made ROGUE recovery which than allowed you to flash CWM.. all kinds of crazy lol

You certainly can try different kernel. Guevor's have done test kernel that got rid of the SOD for me.
I'm on Megatron which is base on CM9. The only special rules would be to read the OP of any thread. Usually the Dev will say if so and so kernel is compatible with certain ROM, ect.
Can anyone see if the Hulu+ app will install from the market?

THelook and feel of JB is for the most part similiar to ICS.
Their are some differences you will notice:
Animations: Some new and smooth animations that are nice. Animationa arre a minor thing but add a nice touch.
Project butter: My tablet does seem to run smoother and I have yet to have a wait/close prompt pop up. Of course I may get some, but so far it seem to have improved in that dept.
Google Now & search: This is what I wanted most. I really like the voice search, it really fast with returning answers. I wish I did a few more thens like open apps and tell me my next apointment when asked, bt I'm sure that will come with future updates. Google Now is prety neat and I'm interesting in seeing how it starts to work once I have had it a while and it can develop some patterns and give me info based off what it believes is relavent for me.
This is just an initial impression is I just updated last night and haven't really got much day to day expierance with JB, but so far so good. So far I don't really see the down side. You gain a few things and don't really lose much. Unless you have a particular app that dosen't play well wih JB yet.
Can't wait to get jellybean but I'll wait patiently for it

You can flash anything, doesn't mean you'll be successful. The current recoveries can't support this due to different boot and kernel mods. The guys are currently trying get a fix for those on OTA JB and all. I would say sit tight and wait for conformation that Twrp or cmw can backup and restore boot from diff firmwares. I tried this and got stuck at Asus logo and couldn't boot into os. But was able to get official JB back up. So now I'm stuck on JB for now.

Splendid! I look forward to seeing what this evolves into! I personally believe that a good, clean, professionally done kernel by an individual that actually cares instead of ASUS devs, is what we need to make this device perfect. :highfive:

Is writing an overclocked kernel hard to do? I mean, the tegra t33 is already powerful enough but some extra gigahertz would be nice.
Maybe it's just that I'm insane but I think overclocking would be a cool thing to implement, that is if it isn't hard to do.

This works perfectly with CleanRom1.1.
In case anyone was wondering, the default kernel is stuck at 240 DPI even though it shows to be set o 160. I actually prefer 240 over 160 due to these 51 year old eyes, but sometimes I do like to change the DPI for a 'new view'.
Thanks Dev!
I never tried the build.prop for dpi before but just installed this and wow everything is so nice and small lol this rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Working fine for me with 200dpi, thanks !

Just flashed to check it out. 160 is pretty damn small lol.
Quickly changed to 200 and its better but I'll probably end up back at 230 soon enough.
thanks again and look forward to more tweeking.
So what are you guys using tochange your dpi? What all changes when lets say you goto 200 or so, just the status bar or...?
Also, does this effect the play store at all? I think on my nexus at one point it did.
I used the build.prop editor in ROM Toolbox. Everything changes with 200 DPI, I find that about the best without going too small.
You can use a patched Play Store from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838077 this removes the DPI check and device restrictions !
I just use build.prop editor. I run my infinity at 200 DPI and have never had Play Store problems. Same goes for my Nexus 7 which I keep at 190 dpi

I'm a bit leery of the fact that it is based on 10.2 sources. I'm on 11.0, and while CWM 6.0.3.7 is very painful to use from a UI perspective, it has always worked, so I don't want to mess with my partitions unless I know it supports 4.4.

cm-10.2 recoveries are way more stable than yet experimental cm11 branch
You can wait next year when cm-11 recoveries are fully stable, but then you'll even have to wait for cm12 :cyclops:

This is my point. Will PhilZ recovery properly write partitions? Specifically /data, as I believe that is the problematic one due to SELinux.

I'll make our position clear on that statement. We recommend a specific recovery so that we can rule out certain items when debugging issues, that is all. We are not making a recommendation based on "what is the best recovery available", it is a consistency decision that helps us when issues arise related to the file system, flashing, etc.

Tf701 ROM Conversion

I have been considering making my own rom for the tf700 and thought that it would be nice if I could port the tf701 stock rom or the new CROMI- X rom over to the tf700. Is this even possible? I thought that if I swapped out the kernel and the drivers that it should work is this true?

It indeed belongs in the general section.
Rom can't that easy be ported because SOC is totally different and it would bring simply too much work and even maybe it is impossible.
You may be able to port parts of the framework but it would be a massive amount of work. One issue is the files are much larger in the TF701T ROM due to the higher resolution meaning that even after you massively deboat the stock firmware it is hard to fit into the system partition. It is possible to maybe get it running on rom2sd but considering thee minimal changes in 4.3 over 4.2 I don't consider the effort and amount of debugging worth it. Don't forget we have a boot loader and kernel for 4.2 so there is some work to do first to get it to even boot.
Feel free to have a go though
