[Q] ipaq hx4700 replacement battery problems. - General Questions and Answers

Does anyone know what to do when battery says its 0% charged even after it has been fully chaged(the charge led is solid)
I have this weird problem with 2000 mA replacement batteries for the hx4700 (The original one is 1800 mA).
The thing is that both replacement batteries now report 0% to the device even after they have been charged and the amber light comes solid, indicating that the battery is charged.
First battery "died" few monts ago about a week after I charged it for the first time, that happened the day after when I took it out so I can charge the old original one, the new battery had 75% left, so I didn't want to charge that one. The next day after I used up the old battery, (which is still working fine, except that it keeps dying on around 20% power left for years now, because the voltage drops under 3.5V) I replaced it with that new battery which was supposed to have 75% of power left, but it reported 0% so the device died, so I charged it over night, the amber light was solid, but the pocket pc went with critical battery level and CF/SD card removal bull**** and turned off shortly after that, since the circuit that is in the battery reports 0%, no matter what I do, I tried cleaning contacts, tightening the cover, took the battery apart and there was no visible damage and nothing. Then I throught it must be because I accidentaly dropped the battery on the floor (it didn't sound very good), so I just out that one aside and used the another battery.
I have used the another for about a month, charged it only when the battery was actually under 20% or dead, didn't even take it out. Today the battery reported 0% just like that another one and it was fully charged. Also I'm sure its the battery not the pocket pc, I have two hx4700 the old one I have been using for 6 years and the new one that I have just assembled with parts I bought from ipaq repair a month ago, the old battery still works fine and its reporting the charge correctly in both devices and the new ones are both charged, but reporting 0%.
I worked around this problem, by disabling this driver in registry HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\BatteryIF\Dll
I chaged the value from "battery.dll" to "battery.dllx" so the driver doesn't work and the battery levels are unknown to the device.
The battery runs fine for hours, like it did before, meaning there is nothing wrong with the battery cells, but with the little circuit, that is inside of the battery and that its annoying, because I don't know the level, can't tell when my ipaq will shut off.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Is there any way to get the battery to work again, without disabling the driver? Should I try replacing the cells of original battery with good cells from those bad batteries? I'm really frustrated how the original battery doesn't have the problem after many years of usage and the replacements have issues after few weeks!

HTC s640 Battery Issues?

Hi Folks,
My s640 seems to have developed an issue with the battery. It will get to about 50% and stay there for most of the day then suddenly I get the low and critical warnings, then off. The warnings then off sequence happens within about 10 seconds of getting the first warning. On one occasion I got the low and critical warnings, but then the phone reported 268% battery remaining.
Is/has anyone else experienced this issue or anything similar? I'm wondering if it is the phone or the battery.
Thanks.
I am having the same trouble.
I'll fully Charge my battery and then disconnect it and us it for about 10 minutes and suddenly it will drop my call, turn off my bluetooth and disable the radio (network), and if I don't plug it in, within 30 seconds it shuts off. If I remove the battery, hold the power button for 5 seconds and the put the battery back in and turn it on then I have my battery shows 90+% free.
I'm not sure if it's the battery or the phone.
have you tried running the battery till it won't turn on the phone. Then charging it up again?
maybe a hard reset may help?

Yes I too am having this issue since rom upgrade so is a friend, he just purchased new battery from Telus but they shipped wrong one. Will update if new battery resolves his issues. I went throught three phones with brand new battery they all did same thing Battery is not HTC 20 dolllar aftermarket one (just before warranty expired). Have gotten 400 credit for new phone but nothing like this one out there except Touch Pro Diamond and I hear even with new battery that phone battery life is too short to last through day. Get feeling Telus broke something in software with Rom update used to be when phone battery was expiring a red light would blink (opposite of blue tooth light) now it is only notifications from WM that phone battery is critically low and shuts of radio etc. yet you plug phone in and it's charged 10 minutes later makes no sense. Rechargable batteries voltage change with charge the interesting thing when I pull my battery the voltage is the same charged or just after error messages (I have a very expensive True RMS Voltmeter from work that has been calibrated in last year) but without load this isn't an accurate test. Does make me think something is not right and beleive it software related for more see my post in Howrds Forums under phone model.
I am having the same issue after the ROM update, not sure if it's the cause. Already replaced a battery on warranty for not holding charge. But now I have had the phone over a year so telus wants me to buy a battery for $80. I know based on this information i'll be wasting my money.
i want stuff to work for more than a year what the hell is money good for?
any fixes or updates wether the new battery helped??
I replaced the battery on my phone and these odd issue I was having are gone guess we have to face the fact that you need to purchase a replacement once a year hopefully it will last a year my problems start just short of a year.
I just got my new battery from here http://www.longlast-battery.com/productCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=0&idproduct=17483
I will post after I get it full charged and try it for a day or two
where did you get yours from?
well the battery didn't even last an hour on the way to work.
#1 it was similar but 2-3mm shorter than the OEM and barely touched the contacts on the phone.
#2 charged overnight ok and said 100% charged then withing 20min it said low battery then died shortly after
#3 would not charge a second time (on 2 of my wall chargers, two usb and 1 car charger) Just the red light would light up. Tried jiggling the battery but nothing not even a flashing red light.
so much for a battery bought from the US. Waiting for RMA

I purchased a battery from E-bay and it would not charge at all. Existing charge in battery was enough for me to know that my issues were battery related after all as phone lasted for quite awhile. Tried charging ebay battery for close to 12 hours no go, so returned it for full refund. Called Telus because my calls in were while I was under warranty still but it had since expired they credited my account for the price of battery over a couple of years (1.5 batteries really) to make up for battery not lasting more than a year...hope that makes sense. Doubt I will buy another HTC with todays battery technology there is no reason one of these batties can't last 2-3 years if taken care of. Just a money grab telus/htc on their part in my opinion.
Gave the battery I got from longlast-battery another try.
the battery is CS-DS640SL 1250mAh 3.7V
I got it to charge by turning off the phone and plugging it into a usb port on my PC. Took about 6 hours to charge to 100%.
Won't charge when phone is on which is weird. Even at 90+% charge.
Lasted a full day without charging. That's a good thing I guess. Even when I restarted, it didn't lose the typical 10% drop in charge the other battery does.
I'm going to discharge it and charge it three times to see if it starts working properly and letting me charge it normally. Was a tip someone gave me. Won't hurt anything, and if it doesn't work I can still send it back.
Curious what you guys think. do you think it's a bad battery and I should just get an exchange, or I should just get my money back, and shell out the $100+ for a Telus battery?
Well the longlast battery test failed badly. Lasted about half a day with minimum calls and data use. No wifi no bluetooth. After it died I took it out and let it sit for a bit as the battery was fairly warm. After I put it back in, it said I had about %40 left. Very odd. And it lasted for another two hours before dying.
Now it's back at the won't charge stage. So I finally got an RMA number, so this one is going back.
Hitting Telus on the way home to pony up for a new battery. Getting the extended one as it's only $20 more. Hopefully this one will last more than a year - then I can get another phone (got to love 3yr retention contracts that end early )
I've created a Facebook group to act as a petition for everyone with the notorious battery life problem.
Join the group here, it's open to everyone:

Share your experiences dealing with Telus positive or negative ones.. or tell us if you've been able to fix the problem by hacking the device. Anything at all that will help the people still stuck with this phone.
I have done some efforts regarding battery capacity measurement Just lookup this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5558383#post5558383

battery drain problem on my SPVC600

I have 2 SPVC600 phones and one is not even 24 hours in standby before the battery goes empty, whereas the other phone is in standby several days. I tried several different "virgin" ROMs on both phones, several different batteries, still the same problem, one phone just sucks the energy out of the battery like crazy.
Anybody knows where the problem is and how it could be fixed?
Thanks

Same Here...
Hi, i know that this is a old thread, but... the same issue here, i have a T-mobile SDA, replace the original battery that come with the phone 2 years ago, this battery die and ebay a fresh battery again, but... nothing, goes empty in less than 13 hours with the fresh and new battery (with the old one at least 4 hours before die under nitrogen´s wm6 rom), any suggestion? (i clean the phone of programs, change roms, downgrade to original WM5 but... nothing, only 12 to 14 hours and empty ), the new battery is a "OEM ST26" from sanyo...
Until this day, my tornado was the more reliable and trust phone that i´ve had
Can you recommend me any procedure for test the phone... do you think that is a usb connection Issue, i read in a lot of threads that this could be Rom upgrade... ´coz the new drivers, componets, etc.... any help ir really appreciated
Greetings from Colombia...
Usually the original batteries are the best you can get. Even the (now very old) original ones (Sanyo ST26-C) still have their original capacity and I have not seen a single battery of these that has failed until now.
If you see such a drain from the device you could possibly disassemble the device and clean it. If that does not help - sad :-(
Does it make difference if you charge the battery on the device being off or while OS is running?
If you have volt-meter: what is th battery-voltage when empty/fully loaded?
Hi Tobbie, thanks for the reply, yeah, i follow all procedures for battery maintance, i try charge with the phone off, phone on (with radio turned on and off, really i only see a difference of only 1 1/2 hours...), this night i try clean with isopropilic alcohol the contacs between battery an phone and i see... i noted something peculiar:sometimes when i plug the AC Adapter or connecting to my desktop, the led indicator (in this case orange), dont turn on, sometime this led appars and dissapear passing 20 seconds but full charge the phone (i see this in seetings=> energy configuration => 100%)... other times this light is hold until this change to green (fully charged), but ever the same result, lees than 12 Hours... this happen with both batteries (old one and fresh buyed from a reliable seller 15 days ago...)
I download awhile the service manual for tornado but... Scare... i really love this phone, really i have now a LG Incite, but this phone is my "backup", coz all time buy and sell phones, but this since 2005 "sleep with me...", if after clean contacts i dont see any change or fix... No mercy with tornado´s LOL...
and i want with all neighborhoods a voltimeter, can you tell me about the standar values for this battery (my knowlodgement about electronics are limited a lot), i post my results here after my test...)
Thanks a lot, i hope that you can help me later (and sorry for my ugly english)

This sounds weird, but the only reasonable source of evil is that also your other battery (equally aged, but unused probably) is chemically dead. It hardly ever happens that the charge-electronics is going mad somehow. With the many Tornado that I had on my desk, not a single one had problems with this part. For some devices I have seen that the batteries were stone dead - and these behave as you describe it.
It looks as if the battery has lost its capacity. A fully charged battery has a capacity of roughly 1100 mAh. With a drain of ~75mA (for the fully lit display) this will last 14h and 40 minutes. So a similar power drain would have to suck the juice off the battery - which I doubt that anything will do. If you switched off all radio parts (GSM, WLAN + BT) there is nothing left that drains the battery like this.
You could try to check how long the batteries will last when you have the display light draining the battery additionally. For this part it is well known how much it drains (see above) - and if you see that the battery lasts half the time of what you said before - then the battery is ok and the device has some mysterious power drain. If however the battery only lasts a few minutes with this defined load - then it is surely dead.
Check the battery capacity link in my signature to get the tooling for measuring this easily.
Voltages should be measured with a digital Voltmeter if you have access to one. They are for dead batteries not much different to good ones if you do not apply load, but a fully charged LiIon has around 4,2 V and discharged in a Tornado around 3,55 V.
The Tornado will shut off at around 3,55 V but if the Voltage is much higher when removing the battery and measuring the Voltage - another hint for a dead battery.
Good luck

Battery Indicator at 0%!

I purchased an unlocked Treo 750 off ebay the other day, I received it in the mail yesterday. THe battery indicator says 0%full and has the exclamation mark on it. It's been like this since yesterday and I've charged it overnight. I'm sure the battery has charge because if it was at 0 it would have died through the night and I've upgraded it to Windows Mobile 6. I"m trying to put 6.1 on there but the PC way won't let me because it thinks the battery is below 50% and i tried the bypass through the bootloader but it says the file is corrupted after 7%. Anway, anybody know how i can fix this battery indicator problem? I've tried installing other battery utilities but they all read 0%!
I have the same problem
I got a refurb 750 last week at the AT&T service center as a warranty replacement. The first few days I noticed that when the phone was plugged in to charge, sometimes it would go up to 100% and seem to discharge normally. Other times it would appear to discharge really quickly and when I would plug it in the charge % would keep going down. Finally last night it went down to 0% even when it was plugged in and it gave me warnings and finally powered off. I have an extra battery (OEM) and extra charger so I put in a battery that I know was 100% charged and it still showed 0%, but this time it never gave warning notifications and it never turned off. Now the indicator just stays at 0% with either battery whether it is plugged into a charger or not. I did a hard-reset just to see if maybe something I installed is interfering with the indicator but even after that it still shows 0% with either battery. It works fine and I'm guessing it will turn off at some point when the battery actually dies, but this is just
Had the same problem
hi,
The problem is the battery.
I had the same problem with my treo after purchasing it from eBay... (I wonder if it's the same store)
I asked the seller to send another battery and he did, now it's OK.
My advice to you is to contact the seller, if you haven't given him a feedback, don't do it until you get a new battery from him.
Good Luck
yeah, i believe it's the battery also. The battery it came with was a 1600mAh and I found out the phone shipped with a 1200mAh. I ordered my own though...only 8 bux...should be here in a day or two
Solution found!
The solution to my problem was the battery. Like I stated in my previous post....the phone came with a 1600mAh battery when i bought it from ebay. The ATT 750 shipped with a 1200mAh battery and the 1600mAh was made for the 755 and another model i don't recall. Once I placed the 1200mAh battery in the phone, it showed the correct percentage and is charging with the battery light on (which wasn't happening before). So I'm not sure if there is different circuitry in these two batteries that caused the conflict but my problem seems to be solved.

[Q] Charging and battery indicator

Hi everyone
My problem is.. my DS started to charge slowly.
Now it doesn't really charge slowly, If I check the voltage, I will get like 4220mv but as soon as it reaches that, the charging graph just goes flat.
If say I have charged it to 70% and it started going slow. i switch it off, place on the charger, and the lamp goes green. I turn it on, and it is showing 100%.
I have tried calibrations, diffirent kernels, wiping, factory resets e.t.c.
Another thing is that if I will run a v6 battery calibrator,it will show that actually I should have a 100% charge although a phone is showing only 70%.
So the summary: Phone charges normally when off (when recovery monitors charging), showing the correct voltage when on... But showing the wrong percentage if on charge.
Also sometimes if the battery is like 14% left. And I turn the phone off and then on again, it will show 22% bearing the same voltage as when it was 14%.
Question: Is there any way to tweak the battery indicator so it would show % values same as the v6 calibrator does it or is it a hardware fault, if yes, which part of it ?
This happens to me on my older (original) battery, but not my new one. I bought the second battery when this problem started happening. So, I think it's just a symptom of an old battery.
By the way, if you leave it on charge long enough, it will eventually jump up to 100%.
Other than this weird behaviour, it has no real impact on anything.
Sent from my Nexus 7
Thought so, mines been acting similarly lately, but strangely enough it seems to be getting better
I think I found out..
I actually purchased a new battery recently, because my old one was jumping like crazy and started discharging in a few hours..
This new battery I bought from a mobile repair shop.
It is a cheap chinese battery with no name, anyhow I just took it out to take a look at it...
And guess what, it sais 1200mah..
Can the phone be confused because of that ?

New Battery?

OK, so I've had my SM-P900 for about year now.
Suddenly just this week I am noticing my battery is draining considerably faster than usual and is also taking longer to charge. I was using a custom rom but have now switched back to the default 5.02 version that I installed via Kies.
So after a year do I really need to purchase a new battery?
I keep most everything off all the time and really haven't changed anything or how I use it in quite a few months so was wondering if I actually have to break down and purchase a new battery already.
Cheers
Read the threat : Flickering screen to see how to adjust the tip of battery cable closer in order to make better contact before replace a new battery, within one year the battery should still be good.
If you see the same thing with new battery, probably the battery connector has cracked solder joints and needs to be re soldered, common problem of Samsung tablets, not just only this model.
Lithium-Ion batteries generally last between 300-500 full charge cycles before they start losing power. A year is.. way too soon.
Does it also take longer to charge when the device is turned off completely?
In general a drain increase is caused by a software issue, mobile data or a bug. (or heat/cold.) (The difference between mobile data on and off with a 4G connection is 100-0% in deep sleep in 2 days with LTE, and 80 days in airplane mode.)
Signs of a dying battery include random discharges (it suddenly loses 30-70%, it's at 100 when you unplug and suddenly drops to 30%, or it's dead, you plug it in and turn it back on and it suddenly has 50% charge), random reboots and the device just not turning on at all for no apparent reason.
While it'll loose capacity eventually, that usually doesn't negatively affect the charging speed. (If anything it charges faster because it reaches 100% sooner.)
So assuming that I have a dead battery, is there a good replacement battery out there?
I have tried replacement batteries in the past and have found only subpar batteries on the market.
I bought a new battery on Amazon : 26$
This one is an original battery so at this price you should order one.
And about flickering issue, yes you should resolder connectors or changing the battery might solve this issue too (it worked for me)
