Hi CrossBreeder users.
This question often comes up in the CrossBreeder forum so I decided to put together a quick tutorial.
Once CrossBreeder is installed, you can update CrossBreeder's master (hosts) file by following these few steps;
1) Open AdAway app.
2) Select the menu button then preferences...
3) From the menu select "Target hosts file" then "Custom target"
4) From the menu select "Custom target" , type in /system/etc/CrossBreeder/dnrd_root/master then press OK.
5) If you would like automatic AdAway updates, check off the following;
a) "Check for updates daily"
b) "Automatic update"
c) "Update only on WiFi." This selection is optional.
6) Return to the main screen.
7) Select "Download file and apply ad blocking"
8) Select "NO" to Symlink missing!!!
9) Close app, you're done!
If you later wish to update manually, repeat steps 1, 7 through 9. Automatic updates appear not to work when the Symlink is missing.
(Please totally disregard the "Disabled" and "Simlink Missing" banners . We are using AdAway only to update our master file. We are not using AdAway to block ads, hence the message.)
If this post was of help, kindly click "Thanks" ! :good:
Cheers...

After custom target.... Include the word "enter" or just /system/etc/CrossBreeder/dnrd_root/master then go back to main screen

May I suggest you change your title to remove the "?" And put "guide" ?
Your thread title appears to be a question and not a guide.
Like this:
"(Guide) How to use adaway..."
Nice guide btw.

Thanks. Not sure I understand your question. The hosts file in this guide IS a AdAway generated hosts file. The file is named "master" and placed in the proper directory for use by CrossBreeder to block ads.

I can't open Medscape bcoz of the adblock features by crossbreeder....
Tried update using AdAway with the whitelist....but still the same..
How to add a exception url like "white list" on Crossbreader master add block file.
I need to add server of Medscape to white list as it do not work with Crossbreader on
I used to do that successfuly on ad-away as it has option of lists.

I use Crossbreeder and I have updated my host file through adaway like it's written in the OP but I still receive all ads en I tried some websites from the master file but they all open in my browser so the ad blocker doesn't works. What can I do? I know I can disable the adblock function in terminal emulator and replace the host file with a modded one but I want to know what's wrong with the CrossBreeder build in ad blocker because I like CB it's the best tweak script for Android.

Download ES File Explorer.
Once installed hit Menu -> Settings
Then scroll to bottom and select Root options.
Check both Root Explorer and Mount File System
You may be prompted with an SU request, allow.
Hit back twice to get to folder directory.
It will probably be at the SDCARD root.
Hit the " / " icon, top left, this will get too the root area of your phone memory (or whatever its called)
Find the system folder, tap it.
Find the app folder, tap it.
Find the Facebook.apk file, long press and hold it, then select delete.
Reboot phone
go to market, download/install latest facebook.apk
something along those lines.
Perfect, thank you guys it work perfect that way, ijust finish downloading the 1.3.2 version.
[Edit: This modification is now in my FREE MoDaCo Toolkit - details]
This modification uses the 'Xposed' system, which must be installed as detailed in this post.
This modification will restore the missing 'back button options' in the 'Settings -> Display, Gestures and Buttons' menu on your HTC One. As it is an Xposed mod, it should be ROM version independent.
To install...
Download and install the modification APK - DOWNLOAD
Enabled the module in 'Xposed Installer'
Reboot
Easy eh? More Xposed modules for the One will follow.
P
Works like a charm. Thanks Paul, great to have this feature enabled... To be honest I wonder why they disabled it from the review units. Who knows eh.
What are the missing back button options, may I ask?
The option to map long press back as menu, removing the black bar.
P
Ah, ok. Thank you

Sure, but this method should be rom version independent and is arguably easier to install once you have the Xposed framework.
Both have their merits!

Have you enabled the module in Xposed, and installed the Xposed binary from recovery as well as the installer APK (and hit install there)?
P
I too am looking for the button options, maybe I didn't read correctly?
What I have done:
I installed the Xposed installer, in the app I hit "install/update"
I flashed the ZIP in recovery (CWM)
I bought and installed the MoDaCo Toolkit app
I activated the module in Xposed
I activated the HTC One option to enable the button options
Now where exactly are those options? What subsection of settings and what is it supposed to be called? In the best case I've just overseen it, but I guess I need some advice on this case.
You need one last reboot there.
Then it appears in Settings -> Display, Gestures and Buttons...

hmmm ok ... i also noticed that its only sometimes that when i hold the back button the app simply closes ... hmm
edit : try facebook app ... i have to try three times till it works ... otherwise app closes !!!!!!
I have no luck it seems. I have done a correct installation and rebooted several times, also between simple steps. The module is active and everything and I now tried the option to disable the children mode function in the power menu. After a reboot this function is still visible.
My values:
HTC One from Vodafone Germany (driven by a T-Mobile card)
unlocked with HTC Dev (S-ON)
ROM: Android Revolution HD v3.3

Anyone able to point in the direction of my mistake?
Hey guys, just thought I'd share this little tweak with you all. During this Galaxy S5 setting craziness, I was playing around and found a way to show the stock Settings app in a list view. So for those who hate Samsung's tabbed view in the Settings app (like me! ), or just want a UI refresh, this is the tweak you've been looking for!
EDIT: This was originally posted here by @a9402169 before I found out about it, though you won't need a root explorer for the method below.
Requirements/Compatibility: (Will modify as it changes)
TouchWiz 4.4.2 (May work on 4.2.2+; please test and let me know!)
Galaxy S4 i337/i337M/i9500
You must be ROOTED.
You must not be afraid to tinker!
WARNING:
If this tweak does not produce what it should on your device (i.e. The UI in the screenshots I've posted below), please do not blame me for this! I am not responsible for what happens to your device! Test it at your own risk! But if you find this works in different circumstances than what I've outlined above, please let me know! I simply tried it on my device on a CLEAN ROM flash, and it worked very well.
So let's get started.
Instructions:
You will need to get the SQLite Editor app. It's a paid app!
Open up SQLite Editor and make sure to give it root permissions.
When the app list loads, navigate to, and tap on Settings Storage.
Tap settings.db, then system.
Tap the + button at the top to add a new entry to this table.
Enter name as settings_listui and value as 1 and tap the Save button. (See screenshots)
Exit SQLite Editor and remove the Settings app from recent apps if necessary.
Launch the Settings app and see the results.
Results:
BEFORE: Screenshot 1 below.
DURING: Screenshots 3 & 4 below.
AFTER: Screenshot 2 below.
And last but not least, if this has helped you out, please hit the THANKS button!

This will block well known ads on all android devices.
What does this do?
1) It changes your host file to block well known websites that shows ads
2) It will backup your current host file, if you want to return
HOW TO INSTALL?
1) Download the zip.
2) Put it in your phone
3) Flash it.
HOW TO UNINSTALL?
1) Install a file explorer
2) Go to /system/etc
3) Delete hosts file
4) Rename hosts.bak to hosts
5) Done! Will make another reverse script soon I hope!
Enjoy Please thank me if this helps you.

Its just a simple webapp with bottom bar and other additional cool features.
•••Info about app update tracking•••
I saw a lot of requests for app update tracking feature. Although it is possible, its very difficult to do. Apkmirror doesn't have any public API so I would have to do it with HTML parsing and in this case it's pretty difficult. If anyone wants to help me just send me a PM.

Yes, downloads are a problem. The app downloads with the filename APKs. There is nothing to distinguish it. You can rename the file *.apk. Its icon appears and it will install. It would be nice for the file to download with its full name though.

I think that there still some download issues with certain files. some download with the correct name. Some download as "download file" without the apk extension. Rename the file and add the extension and it still works. Just not very convenient.
