A700 worth it at $280 - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

Amazon has the A700 Black one for about $280 right now. I was thinking about picking one up. Couple of questions though.
1. Its not an IPS display so how does it compare to say the Asus TF300 or TF700 that does have IPS? Do view angles suck on the A700
2. Does it have Gorilla Glass, if not does the screen scratch easy?
3. All the reviews I have read say it is a very sluggish and slow tablet is this actually true?
4. I had a A510 and it got very very hot does the A700 get like that?
5. The A700 looks like its twice as thick as the Asus TF300 or TF700 is it very thick and heavy the A700 that is?
Thanks

Watch out with this case, because of the thickness of the leather that covers the front you cannot dock the keyboard without a high likeliness of damaging it or the tablet...

Will a TF300 screen protector fit a TF700?

Hey, just wondering if the screenprotectors for a tf300 will fit a tf700?
Thx
It won't. The screen are different sizes. A screen protector for the TF201 will fit it though (I can confirm this as I put one on my new TF700T).
Hope this helps!

Actually it will; both are 10" screens. See my post here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/30390-screen-protectorprotective-case/
The only concern is a VERY minor difference in camera and light sensor hole position.
Cool thanks. So the holes for the camera and light sensor on the tf201 screen protector line up?
That's good to know I just ordered a couple of anti glare protectors for the 201 hoping it will fit. Hoping it doesn't take away from the clarity of the screen.

Please post your thoughts on the anti-glare after you install it. Normally, it's the very first thing I do with my devices (for the anti-glare properties), but I've been hesitant to do this with the TF700, just because the screen is so damn nice... However, if it's doesn't interfere too much, I may re-consider....
Thanks!

No problem I ordered 3.
First 1 to test with half on the screen and the other half of the screen uncovered to see if there is any major clarity loss.
Second 1 if I like the test then it's staying on
Third 1 is backup.
Either or I'm most likely gonna keep it on cause even though screen is bright enough to overpower the glare its still annoying I myself tend to sit on my patio a lot or on my lounge chair next to the Window where the sun is strong. I will take pics and post them to see if you see a major clarity loss. Everyone is different.

Any update as to whether or not you are satisfied with the TF201 screen protector on your 700? reason why I'm asking is my 700 just came in and I'm going to pick it up tonight, thinking of making a stop at best buy to pick up an anti-glare screen protector and wanted to know if I should just grab a 201 vs a 700.
also any specific brand or any anti-glare should do? I'm rocking phantom skinz on my S3, pretty nice quality if you ask me but a screen protector is a screen protector so money comes first here. doing it more for the no-smudge and anti-glare then protecting the gorilla 2
They both fit size wise but you might need a hole puncher to line up the camera and sensor in the front. The 3 I ordered sucked. They take alot from the screen. I still have one left. Check it out I took a glare cover off cause be dock came in a couple of days ago. I had one more anyway. And in the time I took it off and the time I put the new one on I got a very faint but noticable 1mm scratch on my screen. Ask me how and I will tell you I don't know how. Must have been dust on my hand. Sucks
Put a screen cover guys.

I can confirm that our TF201, TF300, and future TF700 are all different screen protection systems. Also hole punch will end up leaving bubbles if you aren't extremely accurate in using one, so be careful! (That is on our dry GLARESHATTER system, wet systems can usually be hole punched fine). Also there is still slight cutting differences!
TF300 screen protectors definitely do not work. I bought a pack of high quality ones for the TF300 I use to own and they are mis-sized AND the camera slots are off (though only a little). The missized protector itself is trouble though as the TF300 is wider.
I got some TF700 screen protectors as I didn't want to risk TF201 protectors. Asus really moved all the buttons around to make the TF700 versus the TF201. I'm guessing putting all the antennae into the little plastic strip part of the tablet forced them to change their pcb.
Just a quick update. I purchased a Zagg screen protector for the TF201 and it fits perfectly on the TF700. Front camera and light sensor align correctly. Anyway, remember this is only in regards to the screen protector, I don't know about the full body protector.

TF700 / TF201 Antiglare screen protector for $3.95 on Amazon (Prime)

Seems like a awesome deal for $3.95. PCTabletcases confirmed that this screen protector works. There is a bigger camera cutout so it fits both the TF700.

Not a bad deal. Just ordered one, we'll see how well it fits. Thanks for the heads up!
I purchased a 3 pk of Poetic anti-glare protectors and while they are of high quality, I'm still torn between whether I want to leave it on or not... It's not that the screen looks bad with it on, but I know that it looks so much nicer without it!
However, I absolutely *love* the fact the your finger slides so nice across the anit-glare protector and I *love* the fact that fingerprints and smudges are a thing of the past with the anti-glare protector... Decisions, decisions....
I guess the fact that it's still on after a few days says something... I'm thinking the lack of fingerprints and how easily your finger slides over the anti-glare may just be enough to live with the screen quality degradation...
I wonder why these things don't come pre-anti-glare? I mean think about it - when's the last time you saw a computer monitor that wasn't anti-glare? They all are! Why can't tablet mfg's do the same (without reducing the screen quality though)? Surely it can be done?!

I just stated the reasons why! It's not like the screen looks like crap or anything, just slightly less than the screen quality without it... Like the I said, so far, the pros of the anti-glare outweigh the cons...

I have one on my tf101, No it doesn't look like crap, but it undoubtedly reduces quality of screen, I had no intentions of ever putting on another and definitely not on tf700. I'm not questioning the value, BUT if thats your priority why not stick with lower cost lower rez screen? The 700 is only worth the money because of the screen.

The screen protector doesn't lower the resolution of the tablet! You still get the advantages of the higher resolution screen... Geez, you act like it makes the screen look like it's 640x480 or something! It's just a piece of clear plastic!
I also have a TF101 (well technically, the wife does now) and the TF700 screen is still *much* better looking than the TF101 screen... Besides, the TF700 is much nicer than the TF300, even besides the screen (plastic compared to aluminum, etc)...

Glare doesn't exactly improve the quality of the screen. This thing isn't like a screen that could double as a mirror so much as (esp outdoors) it's like a mirror that could almost double as a screen if you angle it right and squint. I don't have an anti-glare on yet. I wish I could get a sleeve with an antiglare window to pop on it for outdoor use, and be able to take it off the rest of the time. More realistically, I'm thinking of finding the cheapest possible pack of antiglares straight from e. asia, and using them like removables. Reuse them till they won't stick any more, then toss them. I don't use it outside every day, so I might get some decent mileage out of it.
I don't understand why we put up with super reflective glass on our 500-600 dollar tabs, with super IPS+ advertised to make it daylight readable.

Reusing screen protectors is a bad idea, every time you expose the sticky side you pick up more dirt and dust that will sit between the protector and the screen, which is one of the easiest ways to damage the screen.

I would agree with this! It's almost impossible to "re-use" a screen protector, especially over and over again. You'll never get it off and back on again without getting stuff stuck to it...
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
Outdoors I mostly use the keyboard anyway, not the screen. How about 1 crystal clear protector permanently applied. 1 temporary antiglare protector (cut to be smaller, and probably dog-eared on the corners for easier removal) removed and reapplied for outdoor use. As to being able to reapply it, one need only have something else to apply it to until the next application. It would probably stick to my clipboard, and if not that, I'll find something.

Good luck, but I'd be willing to bet that this will not work out as planned. Even if the sticky side is only exposed for a few seconds, it will attract dust, hair and everything else floating in the air - you'll get bubbles when trying to re-apply it...
Again, good luck but I would keep my expectations low on this method!
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
My expectations aren't high, but how bad will bubbles even show in daylight anyway? I'm not sure I'll try it, but I'd wager bubbles in my temp shield are better than super reflections.
I got one of these and didn't have any issues putting it. It does level my screen with a sparkle effect. As if there are a ton of little particles on the screen shining . Is that an effect from the anti glare portion of it? I do like the feel of my fingers on the screen with this film protector on. For the price I'm happy so far.

Yep, that's definitely the anti-glare'ness that is causing that sparkle effect. You'll find that the amount of "sparkle" varies greatly from one anti-glare protector to the next. Typically, you get what you pay for, but not always. I remember from my iPad days, that I got the best anti-glare protector that I've even had from 5Below for $5 each (which was really cheap at the time).
The Poetic anti-glares that I bought are pretty good - very little "sparkle" effect. Mainly only notable on white screens and even then, it's not bad at all. So far, the anti-glare, anti-fingerprint and super slippery effects of the anti-glare are winning though as I still have my anti-glare installed. I can now go days (maybe even weeks!) without having to clean my screen (instead of cleaning the screen every few hours without the protector). There is definitely a trade-off though.

can the screen be cracked easily?

ordered mine last week with free super saver from amazon, today it just shipped , estimated delivery date is this saturday, so i'm waiting for it and so excited.
but i just read some reviews on amazon and i see people are complaining about the screen, they say their screen can be cracked easily and only cracks after one or two months, this make me worry a lot because after one month you can't return it, then i google tf300 cracked screen (if you just type "tf300 cr" you'll see google suggestion "tf300 cracked screen" which means there's a lot of cracked screens) and i saw a lot of threads about this, so is the screen really easy to get broken? did they get defective items or is this because of asus design?
some people even said in the first month it was working properly but on the 31st day (which is 1 day after the return period passed) the screen cracked when they hold the tablet.
so what do you guys think about this? how long have you used your tablet? and is it working ok?
yes ..I've noticed that the tf300 screen cracks easily....a friend of mine cracked her tf 300 screen by a light drop and had to get it replaced for approx 400 $ ....drops are not covered under warranty ...so I am gonna be real careful with mine ...
Yeah I would be carefull with it. Buy a screen protector, wont protect the screen that much but its something. Its not exactly gorilla glass.

Do you guys use any protective case and which one?
The TF300 does flex easily so we should be handling it carefully.
It would be great if you can get protective case or sleeve for the tablet. I cannot get any protective case or sleeve for TF300 in my country as the tablet is not yet available locally so I just use a netbook sleeve (bag) that fits TF300 when I commute.
The back plate also is easily removable (without voiding the warrante, as long as you don't lift up the stuff *under* the back plate).
I've heard talk of getting some stronger and nicer back plates made. Mine is currently rocking a custom milled aluminum plate which I made at a machine shop with the original as a template. Makes it quite a bit sturdier, and not too much heavier.
Perhaps some time soon, when they've been out a bit longer, some manufacturer will step up and start selling something similar.
Until then, I'd look around for a sleeve or soft-case to protect it from bumps and whatnot, and just be careful not to drop it. Treat it like an expensive, fragile laptop. (Which is what it amounts to in the end anyway, hehe.)
If you have any more questions and you can't find the answer here on the board, feel free to PM me about the TF300. I'm working semi-independently on several projects concerning it at once.
Dave
EDIT: I hold my tablet by one /edge/ all the time and I've never had any structure problems even before the back plate mod. So you should be fine as long as you don't drop it or something.

Anyway, yeah I've just picked up one of these 3 days ago, and so far so good. Sometimes carry it around holding it from the side with one hand.
There is a tiny little wiggly line under the screen though, and not sure if it a bit of dust, or a really small crack. :/ Unless I really focus on it though, don't really notice it so. Not sure whether should take it back for a new one or not. Seems a bit of an insignificant reason really...

Screen Cracks ASUS Transformer TF300T
I had my TF300T for two weeks and was impressed with the interface and processor speed, so I decided to get a keyboard to make it even more like a laptop. The first time I pressed the tablet onto the keyboard, the screen on the tablet got a hairline crack from the right plastic insert side, 3/4 of the way up the screen. The tablet touch screen stopped working and even with the keyboard or a stand alone mouse I could not get a cursor. After many back and fourth's with ASUS, they still refuse to warranty a broken screen. They say physical damage to the tablet is user caused. ASUS is charging $200 for the repair. I paid $400 for the tablet and $150 for the keyboard. Not a very good financial investment. It is my understanding that the TF300T does not have gorilla glass like some of the previous models. So In the end ASUS cheapened this model up and does not warrant their own design defect.
Well i have mine for over a month now, got it with the dock and always store it "docked"
No screen protector or case
I "dock - undock" it often and never had a problem with the screen.
I also hold it with one hand, no problem still.
But i am always careful and gentle with it
So yea, same wonders here, I just got mine yesterday, but is is really that big of a problem? I know we are a small population, but has this issue happened to a lot of users?

Thinking twice about buying the dock

I'm thinking twice about buying the dock. I know its amazing but I've heard reviews about the screen breaking because of the tablet being docked. Comments and thoughts will be highly appreciated.
Its fine. I would most certainly get it. Imo these issues are from a minority of people. I for one have had no issues. I have also owned the Prime for 6 months and had no problems with the keyboard damaging my screen. Just watch what your doing and you should be fine.

I was hesitant when I bought mine for the exact same reason. But I believe those with the issues are in the minority or Asus would have a class action lawsuit against them. And I"m sure Asus has learned from its mistakes, as the issue appears to be far more common on the Prime than the TF300 and I've yet to see a single case of it on the TF700 that wasnt caused by something else (ex. a lose screw, falling damage). Gorilla Glass 2 is supposed to be more flexible than OG Gorilla Glass, so I'm sure that also helps things.
Just make sure to open from the center and not the sides to lessen the stress on the glass, and hopefully nobody will have issues.
i think people are picking up the tablet/dock using the corner of the screen.
I can see how the weight of the dock could flex the glass enough to crack if handled this way.
Thank you all for your thoughts, will consider it now more . Also should I worry with the screen lifting issue? Is not much on mine just on one corner. And sorry if I sound like a quality control freak jajaja.

As long as its not starting to come apart and loosen further you should be okay. I heard that these FHD screens are thicker then your Standard screens so I guess its normal. Definitely return it is it gets worse.

A square trade warranty makes this concern go away... the Dock is totally worth the risk even without the S.T.W.
I initially had the Transformer Prime with the dock, when I jumped ship to the Infinity I stayed with the same dock. It is working great with it, no need to force the dock, fits in perfectly. No scratches to the tablet either.

I put the tablet with the dock in a neoprene sleeve in my backpack. I took it with me on 5 airplanes, 2 busses and all around Berlin (walking around). It's been slung up and down off my shoulder and back shoved under the seat in front of me and pressed up agains a laptop and books, headphones, bottles, etc. So far (knock on wood!) it's been fine no cracks or anything.
I do plan on getting Squaretrade though.
