In the latest builds of JB, both 4.1.* and 4.2.*, for our PICO, we see WiFi AP doesn't turn ON always, and we need to reboot for it to work.
Well, guys, I have found a work around, and you don't need to restart..
* Add WiFi AP to your Power Widgets
When you need to turn ON your hotspot:
1. Toggle ON your WiFi AP from the Power Widget
==If it gets ON, no need to read further.. If it doesn't then continue reading==
2. Goto Settings>Wireless & Networks
(You will see Portable Hotspot is Ticked ON without any name)
3. Untick Portable Hotspot
4. Wait 3 sec, Re-Tick Portable Hotspot
5. Again wait 3 sec, Untick Portable Hotspot
6. Return to Homescreen
7. Turn On WiFi AP from the power widget
Your Hotspot will turn ON this time.
My procedure will take atmost 15secs, whereas restart will take, certainly a lot more time.
Choose your Option.
Press 'THANKS' if it helped..

Doesn't work
I plugged my AT&T USB 3G modem into the GTab and nothing appeared in the "Wireless" settings.
I'm running TNT-Lite v2.1.0...
my g tablet was working fine with tnt 3.1 but i decided to go with the 4.2 after that my wifi completely stop working .says there is a connection available and start trying to obtain ip adress but always disconect.went back to original rom by viewsonic thinking it will fix it but nothing.plz help
Have you tried power cycling your modem/router then powering up your tab?
Go to wifi setting sleep policy and in the drop down menu choose never. Then go to wifi and under the advanced tab put in your own SSID and encryption code. Let it connect and you won't have to worry about wifi issues again.
[FIX] Ad-hoc wifi 100% working with "Wifi Ad-hoc Enabler" app on HTC Sensation
Steps to enable Ad-hoc Wifi on HTC Sensation
Step 1: Download "Wifi Ad-hoc Enabler" app from Play store
Step 2: Move to a location where ad-hoc network is accessible / make your own ad-hoc network IMPORTANT: SWITCH OFF YOUR WIFI
Step 3: Use the app on your Sensation,
3.1 select the 'verify prerequisites' button in the app
you will see a whole lot of stuff below the set of buttons.
3.2 select the 'enable ad hoc wifi'
again, you will see a whole lot of stuff below the buttons.
however, the last line will give an error which says "ownership of wpa_supplicant could not be changed" THIS IS PERFECTLY FINE. follow further instructions and you should be okay.
Step 4: Close the app. Now go to your wifi settings, ENABLE WIFI and scan for networks. you should be able to see ad-hoc networks with a star (*) sign in front of the name.
Step 5: Connect to the network. doesnt matter if it is wpa or wep or unauthenticated. While connecting to the network, You will now see a replica of the network in the available networks list. Don't Panic Let the phone connect to the network. Once you are connected, the network you connected to will show very poor connectivity. This is also okay! Don't start browsing just yet.
Step 6: SWITCH OFF YOUR WIFI FOR A SECOND TIME Go back to the Wifi Ad-Hoc Enabler App.
6.1: Verify Prerequisites
6.2: Click on the last button that says "Restore wifi settings to original state"
6.3: Close the app.
Step 7: Done. Now SWITCH ON YOUR WIFI. Connect to the network (typically your phone will connect automatically) You should see FULL signal strength.
on Ad-Hoc network that you selected. Enjoy your browsing.
Cheers!
android unable to mount filesystem in read write mode
hi i now this thread is old but its new to me
i tried doing what you said on here but when i run wifiadhocenabler i get this message
"android unable to mount filesystem in read write mode"
can you help me out?
Hello,
I have an old android 2.2 phone (Karbonn A1) and I use it as a Wi-Fi hotspot. Its battery is dead so I just plug it in my PC via USB cable and it turns on and it turns off as soon as the PC shuts down. Now every-time I turn my PC on, on the phone I have to go to setting and then turn on the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot on every single time. So is there any way that I can permanently turn on the Wi-Fi hotspot, like when the phone is turned off and then turned on the data connection is always on until I turn it off manually but the Wi-Fi hotspot turns off when the phone is turned off. My phone is rooted.
Any help would be appreciated.

im not sure if it will work on a system version that old, but there is an app called llama that will turn it on automatically.
how you would set it up is:
-delete all the pre installed events as you wont need them
-create a new event
-add condition, "enter/in area" and choose "home"
-add action, "wifi hotspot"
-back out and it will save
-now go to "areas/home", long press and select "learn". i recommend at least 2 hours for best results.
thats it. it should now boot up and turn on the hotspot (provided you are home).
it uses cell signatures, not gps. so it wont tax your already dead battery
hope that helps
Hey, everyone. Here's a small app I made for myself and figured I might as well post it for anyone else who may want it. It's fully free, and does not track any of your information (which some similar apps out there required permissions I didn't view as necessary for this kind of app, and therefor a little fishy). I made the app to be a convenience thing and battery saver (I only want my wifi adapter to be on at home, and not turn back on again at work), so I'm open to any feature requests people may have to make it more convenient for you.
I call it Auto Wifi, here's a Play store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.psiincgames.autowifi
Going on the description I wrote for the Play Store:
Auto Wifi controls the wifi on your phone for you, turning it on and off as needed. This is both convenient and saves you battery life. Want to have your wifi turn on at home, but not at school or work? We can do that for you.
You have full control over how it will work, with control over everything from the scan interval times to which wifi ssid's to connect to. The optional notification setting helps keep Auto Wifi open in the background, and is as non-intrusive as possible. We hate unnecessary notifications just as much as you do.
It operates using 3 selectable modes:
"Auto on, auto off" - this mode will shut your wifi off when no signal nearby saved access point is detected, and turns it on whenever any wifi access point you've connected to before is nearby.
"Selective on, auto off" - this mode will only automatically turn your wifi on when your device can connect to an access point from a list that you select. Great for when you want your phone to connect to wifi at home but not at school or work. It will only shut your wifi off automatically when it isn't connected to anything, so you can still manually turn on your wifi without disruption.
"Auto off only" - lastly, this mode will only automatically turn wifi off, so you can have full manual control over when it turns back on again.
Description of permissions required:
"Run at startup" - as the name implies, this is needed so we can start Auto Wifi at device start up.
"Access Network State" and "Access Wifi State" - these are needed so we can check if you are connected to a wifi network. This lets us know when to turn wifi on or off, otherwise known as the 'Auto' part of Auto Wifi.
"Change Wifi State" - this is required so we can actually turn your wifi adapter on and off for you, otherwise this app would be pointless.
